Starting point is 00:00:00 Coming at you live from the teammates mentoring studio. It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. A 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com, sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation. Here is your host, Derek Pearson. Hour number two, it's a Tuesday. Lots to talk about again, Major League Baseball. We are headed to a World Series, and there will be a first-time winner. There will be a first-time World Series champion.
Starting point is 00:00:38 in the major leagues. And I'm not sure what the ratings are going to be. I wish, I wish I knew. I don't know. And Harrison, I don't know how much of this World Series you want to watch. I'm a baseball guy, and I'm not sure. I was asked this earlier and then I put it on somebody else, but I was asked if you could name five people on either squad.
Starting point is 00:01:03 I can't. If you're not a Brewers or a raised fan, I don't know that you can't. And that's, I think that's just the status. And they literally just played. Yeah, I think they've been on TV every day. I think you in Haas went for the first time in a while to be on the same boat together. Because Haas' beloved, beloved Dodgers aren't in there.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Well, but there's some market to having name and star people in brands. Oh, yeah. It's about branding. And we don't really know what the Tampa, Tampa Ray's brand is. I mean, all the analytics of baseball thrown out the window because they said, we're not going to play that way. Because if everybody else is following the analytics, the best way to beat them is to not follow the analytics.
Starting point is 00:01:46 And they understand what that is. But yeah, there's that. And then the first, it is the opening day for the NBA. Yeah. Oh, my poor Bach shows up in his Ray Jean-Rondon, Jersey, just for them to get blown out and lose to the pistons. They were outscore 39 to 25. They were up by 50.
Starting point is 00:02:09 by 10. They were up by 10. What happened? We got beat by. Oh, that sucks. Really? Classic outfits.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Did they really? 113, 121, Detroit Pistons, won the very first game of the NBA season. They were up 94 to 83 or something along those lines. Yeah. A way to go. Oh, that's great. Wow.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Yeah, it says they, Pistons rally to beat, ruining Paul George's debut. Paul George was 12 to 21. Jason Tatum 6 of 23-0-07 from 3. Remember when everyone was like Tatum or Brown? They traded Brown for Bob George. Listen, somebody vaguely resembling me told him, but the best player of that team has been and would be Jalen Brown.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I was also on that, though. And I don't understand. I understand they like the pretty boy. I understand they like Brother Lightskin. Who carried them though? I'm like when Jason Tatum wasn't healthy. Hear me on this. This was crazy.
Starting point is 00:03:10 That's a thing, but good for him. Good form. I'm happy for you, Brown. Good, good form. I'm trying to look and see the other pistons had three scores, four scores, with 19 or above. So, yeah, better team won. Sixers up next.
Starting point is 00:03:31 And, of course, I understand the high level of LeBron hate around the sport. and otherwise. I'm not a member of the club, but I find it fascinating. See how much the tickets were for that game? Obviously, Knicks being the defending champs. Shut up. You shut up. It went down a little bit, but it was higher.
Starting point is 00:03:51 You shut up. That the get in seat, good grief American pie. Really? That the Philadelphia 76 is the New York Knicks. LeBron. We'll play it again. LeBron.
Starting point is 00:04:09 the new sixers and the world champs, the get-in seat for the top. And let me just say this, at the top of the garden, again, my least favorite place to be in all of sports, like, which is above the rafters at Madison Square Garden. And I've been put there far too many times in my life to even begin to tell you that I throw hands at the idea of sitting at the top of that. Those seats are $3,300. you can sit above the banners for $2,800. Oh, that's gross.
Starting point is 00:04:43 28. You can sit, there's one section in the upper level that you can sit in for 2,200. And then if you go down a level, if you go to the, the, wow, that is bananas. Whoa, it just dropped by like 300 bucks. Lower bowl, lower bowl, the cheapest, the back row of the lower bowl at the end. to the basket section, 103, is $4,200. Listen to me, if I hit the lottery today, I wouldn't go to this. Knicks fans are crazy. And I guess LeBron fan.
Starting point is 00:05:26 I guess that's what the culmination of it is. Well, I mean, but that is an absurd. Are they raising the banner today? I'd imagine, right? You just won the championship, get your rings, raise the banner. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what they're doing.
Starting point is 00:05:41 I really disconnected from a lot of, a lot of river sports, just because it becomes too much. That's fair. The NBA is a lot, especially with the amount of player moving that happens. When do the Huskers raise the 16th? Have they already raised the Sweet 16 banner?
Starting point is 00:05:56 I want to say they did. Which is weird. Wouldn't you do it in the season? Then they do it like, no, no, no. I'm mixing it up. They definitely, there's no way they do. They may have. They may have, I would ask that question.
Starting point is 00:06:09 but as a fan, wouldn't you want it like opening day? I would think. But do you really want to have like, hey, we made it just, I guess it's like, they could have done it like right at the end of the season, right? To celebrate the team when they came back. I don't know. I don't know. It was raised. I don't.
Starting point is 00:06:26 That's why I asked. Banner's plays a year. Huh. That's why I asked. It's a real thing. It's so funny. $4,000 to watch. Those are Super Bowl numbers, bro.
Starting point is 00:06:46 September 16th. So they waited for the students get back. So at least the student body was back. Yeah. But when that went, well, I'm again. I fully expressed it.
Starting point is 00:07:00 I don't always know or understand what's going on at the University of Nebraska. Oh, yes. I don't always get into like the banners and the ring nights. Like I just play the game. I don't know. I get that. It's very cool, but I don't.
Starting point is 00:07:12 No, I would like for, like when it's the first home crowd where it's packed. Yeah, that. Right. First home game. That's what I mean. Or the first Big Ten game. Like I would have done it in the first Big Ten game. Or the season opener.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Just don't do it at the exhibition. Right? I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, they said they had the banner up for the exhibition basketball game. However, at the Creighton, the Vresco volleyball game, it was hanging. So it's been up.
Starting point is 00:07:44 They put it up when they can put it up, I guess. So I would just think that the fans would, when everybody was there and the people who, like if you bought season tickets for basketball, wouldn't you kind of want there to be a celebration? You're getting reseated. Oh, yeah. Did they reseat at PBA?
Starting point is 00:08:08 Look at my timeline. I know they reseeded at volleyball's done. That's been receded. It's going to be receded in 27. Basketball, are they also going to be receded in 27? Again, I... Just out of my own sanity, I try to stay away from a few things as much as... There's this ways off.
Starting point is 00:08:28 The athletic originally planned to do it in the 26-27 season, however, they... They're going to put... They pushed it to 29. Yeah, is there a celebration... Is there like a Sweet 16 banner celebration scheduled for this? This year, are they doing that at all? Not thought, not I'm aware of. If they do, I'm sure they'll announce it.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Well, I, again, I, is this really one though where you like go full on out? I think you accept. Well, you bring back Sam, you bring back Rink if you can. I mean, Rink looks like he'd be busy. Yeah, you guys are in a game though. Rink looks like he's good. He's going to be busy. It looks like patients have uses and plans for him.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Uh-huh. He looks good. So all of that's in play. Couple of things I want to get into the courses. So, um, I've, I've, I've, I've said as fully loudly as I can that the radio business has its own sharks and demons and devils and that you have to be particularly careful
Starting point is 00:09:28 about the business because people will tell you what they want to tell you until they tell you what they have to tell you. And I've said all along, we try to put on the good fight, put up the good fight here at the ticket, doing things the right way, whatever right is. But we want to be there for Lincoln. And there are places that will tell you that it's Lincoln first, Nebraska first, except for the really not. And for the people of Lincoln, and ultimately when you say it's people of Nebraska and the people of Lincoln, that if you aren't providing more opportunity, you're taking away opportunity.
Starting point is 00:10:08 we have more people working here now than we've ever had working here. There's a method to the madness. And quite frankly, it's not at, there's not, it's not without some cost to us. Like we could just collect money and keep it moving. But anytime the radio business loses soldiers, it bothers me. and there are Lincoln folks who work at other stations who are, of course, frankly, not having a good time with it right now. And so it is a small thing that I can do,
Starting point is 00:10:46 but it's the thing that I must do. For all of you radio folks and all of these sports writers and people who are being laid off and fired and dismissed and all those things, we're rooting for you, and hopefully there's a great comeback. Hopefully there's a great comeback. But to hear and see radio station struggle, and then if you tell me you're not struggling and you're firing all of your local staff, and it's affecting local businesses and local
Starting point is 00:11:20 community and life. Like, these are Lincoln folks. It's one thing that you decide you want to go AI or pre-programming, all this thing. But you're firing people from Lincoln. you're impacting families here in Lincoln. I can't say it enough. Kudos and shout out to those people who are fighting a good fight. Like you're not going to folks who are going to take it and ruin it.
Starting point is 00:11:49 And we've talked about it. I know what the approach was. I know how people, I saw firsthand how it was. When we got the station, I saw how people maneuvered in dark corners. and they want to they want to get it and turn it into a country music station that they weren't going to program they're going to auto program then they tell you we're going to we're going to load up station and then they're going to provide you the same content that they get in Milwaukee, Orlando that's the worst when you can go on major city to the next major city
Starting point is 00:12:23 and you're still listening well but that's what they'll tell you that's what they're telling you And it's just simple as simple put that we are, when I say this, I mean it. We're local. Like we live here, we work here, we operate from here. You can come to the station and see the people of this town working here. Which is crazy how bad that is. It's absolutely ridiculous how rare it is. But I'm never rooting against anybody.
Starting point is 00:12:56 and when I say that we don't have any competitors, we're just trying to do the best that we can do and supposed to do. I'm not rooting against any other station. I'm certainly not rooting against any other talent. But for the folks at the other stations that are having a tough time, listen, all I'm doing is sending out goodwill and sincere, authentic prayers that you get what's deserved in the best possible way. Because it's tough.
Starting point is 00:13:26 business and it needs to be said. So there's that. I'm not rooting against it's I'm not rooting against other stations. I'm not rooting against other towns. I'm not rooting against other other entities in the state of Nebraska. I'm not I'm not we're not contrary to what they think we're not competing with that. We're trying to do the best radio for our listeners that we can do every day, all day every day, all day every day. We're going to hang out with you as long as you want us to hang out with you on many days as you want us to hang out with. Talking about, sometimes we'll talk about all the stuff you want to talk about
Starting point is 00:14:09 some days, not so much. But I'm never rooting for a DJ to be fired. I'm never rooting for a culture to take a hit like that. And it's a real thing. And when I walk through here in Harrison, you've heard me, and we've had these conversations. We do things the way we do them so that. that we are somewhat buffered and kind of protected from that sort of nonsense. That I do not want to rely on capital funding or a corporate entity to come in and clean things up and do things the way that we want to be done.
Starting point is 00:14:45 And quite frankly, if we aren't doing it, I'm not sure anybody does. And I just want to say, I'm grateful for the local businesses that support us and the ones that partner with us. I am forever grateful. I am truly and sincerely grateful because it allows us to do this the way we're doing it. Well, to win and win. And it's important. It's important.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And these are all businesses. So when you see the commercials and see the tags and it says, okay, this company is supporting 937 ticket, you're supporting Lincoln and you're supporting families in Lincoln and you're supporting businesses in Lincoln, people in Lincoln and the state of Nebraska. you invest with us, your money stays with us. It stays with you.
Starting point is 00:15:30 It stays here in town. You literally can walk in the door. If you advertise with us at 11 o'clock, you can walk in here and tell us you want to re-record a new commercial and have it on air right away. Or you can come in and just give a live read and we'll do it right then on the spot. Can't do that anywhere else in the state. And that's the thing I take pride in. And you get to talk to actual people.
Starting point is 00:15:55 I'm not giving you AI, Pablo Pugh, to consume your day and to fill your head. I'm not going to do that. Talk to Jay Foreman. Talk to Adam Caricker. Talk to Steve Sipple. Talk to Grant and Jason. Talk to Harrison. Talk to your people.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Give the pulse of the city. Take the temperature of the city. That's what this is. But my goodness gracious, it's tough to see it come up. And the thing about it is, is that I hear about it before they do. And it's not my place to tell them, hey, you know, head on a swivel. Because if I do that, I'm a hater. Like I'm tampling.
Starting point is 00:16:42 No, I'm letting you know that your livelihood is about to be hacked. Yeah, my fears, it's not just this industry. Yeah. That's a whole TED talk. I don't have time for. But yeah, no, it makes me, I get nervous about what's going to be out there for opportunities for a lot of people with the way things are moving. We built it and grew it so that people at the university of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lincoln,
Starting point is 00:17:08 would have a place to come to work and not have to leave the state. We built it so that people who are Huskers and who love the Huskers have a place to talk and you don't have to leave the state and don't have to be. Because you're losing a lot of your Husker fan base to go talk about the Kansas City Royals. You're losing a lot of your fan base that has to go and work in Chicago. you're losing a lot of your Husker fan base to go to Little Rock, Arkansas, or to go to Orlando, Florida. We want it so that those folks can stay here.
Starting point is 00:17:37 And there are people who get upset over that. And I keep trying to tell you, listen, I don't control what anybody else does, but I sure is hell. I'm going to fight for what we do. That's why we want to have Mark Meehan. That's why we want to have Ronald Revelle. That's why we want to have the athletes.
Starting point is 00:17:57 That's why we want to have the nonprofits. That's why you don't want to link in where you aren't connected and you don't get a reminder of who you are and you don't get to highlight who you are and you don't get who you are amplified, your celebrations, the things you struggle with. You don't want AI on here telling your stories. We're trying to tell your stories.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Hey, they've never invented AI that can tell you about the heart of a hustle. Not once. Doesn't exist. So for the fellow broadcasters that had a tough day in a tough week, we're sending our prayers to you. We're sending out well wishes to you. We're sending out the best to you. And my fingers crossed that nobody else has to deal with it
Starting point is 00:18:44 and that they get a turnaround. The turnaround they deserve, because those are some good folks. Oh, yeah. And all the graphic designers, too. I know a lot of those people. You know, I'm not going to lie, drives me nuts. I'm watching college game day.
Starting point is 00:18:56 And they show the recaps of so-and-so beat so-and-so. And I'm like, we're just using AI. for everything now. And it's at a point where in my mind, like it doesn't even look better than what real people can do. And maybe someday it does. And again,
Starting point is 00:19:11 you can go left or right on that. But me personally, drives me a little bit crazy when I see that stuff. I know someone got fired for that to happen. AI is not going to buy your corn. No. AI is not going to buy your steak. AI is not going to give you a hug.
Starting point is 00:19:23 AI is not going to fist bump you. AI is not going to smile at you. It's just not. And if you keep handing over your businesses to people who don't love you like that, that's what happens. I'm sorry and I apologize to the folks that had rough weeks. I'm rooting for you.
Starting point is 00:19:41 I honestly am more of one-on-one when we come back. Back to one-on-one with D.P. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. I find it interesting that we get distracted and easily distracted by things. that in the grand focus of things, the grand priority of things, and probably with the highest return on investment, is what we give time to.
Starting point is 00:20:25 What we give time to, what we give energy to, what we give focus to. And in the third quarter of Saturday's game, there was an incident. There was a thing that happened. and it wasn't the first time that it happened because quite frankly it is tradition
Starting point is 00:20:47 at in stadiums all over the country House of Payne jump around I mean there's most stadiums have something that they do in the third quarter that is we have our light show when Michigan came when we got our light show people and not just Matt rules they play they play the song
Starting point is 00:21:07 yeah you saw in the frost there too right there on the benches waving towels in the third quarter But you also see the opponents. Like the opponents are having a good day here. They get caught up in the hype too. I mean, listen, I've seen several Big Ten teams use that to antagonize the crowd and otherwise. And in no case is what happens in between. And I hate to pull back the curtain.
Starting point is 00:21:34 But you know how many light shows Nebraska football has won? how many games it's won for Nebraska? How many light shows? How many games? Two. Has the light show won games for Nebraska? Well, no. We've been this one around since Frost, right?
Starting point is 00:21:50 I can't remember. None is the answer. None. Not a one. Not a single one. Oh, no. Harris, how many alternate uniforms have won games for Nebraska?
Starting point is 00:22:02 Not a lot. Zero, maybe. There's been not in the more than zero. We've won some. I'm going to go five. Yeah, but no, that's how many games they won, while wearing the uniforms. It's not why they won the games.
Starting point is 00:22:12 No. Neither was it why they lost the games. No. How many games has the light show lost Nebraska? None. Not one. And this fan base and the Husker alumni, and again,
Starting point is 00:22:31 I'm not telling you how to feel about it. How you feel is how you feel. I'm perfect okay with you being terribly upset about it. horribly upset horribly upset there are certain Huskers that have gone online and they were dancing
Starting point is 00:22:50 the nerve we could never dance for Tom Osborne we could never dance for Bobby we can never we and then there are those that are going hey brother they just dancing either way either way it has occupied a lot of time
Starting point is 00:23:04 and space and I find it funny a lot I find it funny so we went back to one of my favorite movies of all time. Dirty Rodin's calendars with Michael Cain and Steve Martin.
Starting point is 00:23:19 And there's a scene where Steve Martin is a swindler. It's a con man. And he's trying to convince this beautiful woman that he can't walk because he lost his, he lost,
Starting point is 00:23:35 he became paralyzed in a dancing contest. In a dancing contest. So he's telling And he's told her the story before this happens, right? So they're sitting in a restaurant and across the way a couple, a formal couple, they're dancing. And my immediate reaction was my same reaction that I had to third quarter dancing Saturday night during the Oregon game. Harrison, if you would please, kind sir. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:24:15 They're dancing. Freddy, we're going up to my room right now and right to Dr. Shoehthausen. Oh, God, they're dancing. Take me from this place. Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, there's a lot of people on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Well, Sunday morning. Oh, God, they're dancing. Make me away. I think we went a little bit overkill on that. A little bit, a little bit, just a little bit, man. Like the headline. Oh, man, that. So should we smack their legs?
Starting point is 00:25:19 The movie is so good. And I have to, I have to say that Rupert may be. Rupert is one of my favorite characters in a movie, in any movie. Rupert when he when Steve Martin portrays Rupert because he's not really Rupert. He's just playing Rupert in one of the one of the one of the schemes. Rupert. I'm not going to watch that one again. It's a great movie.
Starting point is 00:25:57 There was so back in the day back in the day man my buddy you met you talked to C.J. a couple of times. And in Charlotte, so this is when the movie was hot and happening. CJ probably, CJ and I watched this movie, oh, 100 times. So we knew it by heart, and we would just go to bars.
Starting point is 00:26:16 And we would welcome to women. Not mother. Mother? Not mother. And then. It would work. Oh, it always said. Because either they knew,
Starting point is 00:26:34 and it was hilarious. At that time, movie was like, what is, what is wrong with you? You know, but it was cute. The other one that we would do, so there's a scene where there at the dinner table. And Rupert is, he's on his, he's on his knees, but he's having dinner. Now, first he's there. He's eating apples sauce with a fork and a cork on it. And he's like, why does he have the cork on the end of his fork?
Starting point is 00:27:01 And then immediately he pokes himself. And then the favorite one we would do it And we were just doing at the bar And if CJ was talking to somebody I would walk up and he goes Excuse me May I go to the bathroom now And CJ we go
Starting point is 00:27:23 Of course And I would just make the face And it I want to say it was batting a thousand Like because literally they were just like Okay this is hilarious or this is terrible and you're an idiot. But either way, mission accomplished.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Either way. I just thought there was a lot of talk over dancing, and it wasn't that deep. It wasn't that deep. There was a lot of tests to go into. Oh, there were so many texts. There was so many texts, and there were so many posts about it.
Starting point is 00:28:01 And I just thought, oh. Not if you win the game. Well, but this is the thing. How free of those Huskers? Not nervous anymore. It's the John Madden quote. Winning is the greatest deodorant. Like nothing stinks when you're winning.
Starting point is 00:28:19 It's when you're not winning. That's of issue. It's a real issue. It's a real issue. And you want it said, and I get it, right? I get it that you want better for these young people and these coaches. Like they're Huskers. We're rooting for the Huskers.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Oh, this is where like it's a, It's not this year's team in particular. It's built up over time off of YouTube. You know, Jay Sparks, champion said Nebraska, 18 times has lost after leading in the fourth quarter since 2018, most of any other team. And that's where it's like,
Starting point is 00:28:58 people are just quick to jump on because we, it's all the way to your point at the beginning. Like what has been the reason Nebraska's been losing games? Like people are just, is this the dancing? It's because we're desperate to seek and find the dancer. It really isn't the dancing. No, but people are just,
Starting point is 00:29:12 I don't blame fans for how, feeling how they feel, but I think a lot of fans are just desperate to try to figure out, okay, what are we missing here? But have we, with all of the conversation, and quite frankly, if we're trying to figure out, they're trying to figure it out too. And would it be fair to say that they are better football minds than any of us?
Starting point is 00:29:32 Yeah. Well, in my case, yeah, certainly. No, in my case, too. Like, look, everybody in that coaches were smarter than I when it comes of football. So if they haven't figured it out, now it's often cases. It's just maybe it's what you're looking for or looking through to see. But okay. And if they can't figure it out, because nobody wants to lose.
Starting point is 00:29:57 I can say that with full clarity. No coach in that building on that roster or on that staff wants to lose. They don't want to lose any game, let alone 18 straight in certain situations and circumstances. But there's a truth to it. There's evidence that says that there is a problem, and it's been consistent, and no matter what you did, it didn't work. So you want to make sure you're not trying the same thing. You're not repeating it, but there's, there are boundaries to football.
Starting point is 00:30:26 You can't put a 12th man out there. You can't, like, you can't extend the game because you want to. You can't move the goalposts. You can't move the goal line. You can't throw your own flags. So you've got to figure out how to do it within the context, within context of what the game allows. And if they don't know, and the players, no player wants to lose, right? And no player wants to carry the burden of his older brother. Oh, yeah, 100%. Right. So they did it before me.
Starting point is 00:30:53 So I really, if anything, you put pressure and you something to say, I really don't want to do it because I'm tired of hearing about what happened to them. But the reality is there is no simple solution to it. If you think there's a simple solution to it, you're wrong. If there's anybody who thinks they have the full solution to how you fix the problem. Now, one, the answer would be school more points than the opposing two. That's it.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Then you have to tell me how you're going to do that. Then you've got to tell me because in the end then matters. But aside from that, I'm not sure, Harrison, that there is a simple answer, nor does anybody outside of that room care
Starting point is 00:31:41 more than the people in the room? That's fair. That's a fair. Nobody cares more, cared more about this than the offensive linemen who were trying to block their tails off while exhausted, right? Yeah, no, that's why I'm always, and I know you're in this camp too. I'll never boo the players. But they're the, you know, are a different squad or our school. I just don't. Yeah, I'm not a member of the club that I'm not pro booing.
Starting point is 00:32:03 I just don't think it's, I didn't even boo the cowboys. Okay, I think sometimes with the Packers. I didn't, I booed Rogers, but that's because I know it wouldn't. came close to booing Iowa. And that's a huge, huge statement. I boo the Iowa fans more than the Iowa players. Because some of the Iowa fans spitting on cheerleaders. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's disgusting. Yeah. But what, what would have we figured out what the problem is? No. I mean, if you do find the problem, guess what? You have a great opportunity as a head coach at the
Starting point is 00:32:40 University of Nebraska. You have the full, but I think again, we've had multiple coaches. Listen, if it was an easy answer to find, we would have found it by now, I think. So in full clarity, you're talking about Matt Rule while talking about the program. You're talking about the program while talking about Matt Rule. You're talking about Calandria when you're talking about Matt Rule and vice versa. And it's really not personal. It's we want wins for you both. Anybody that gets upset with Coach Matt Rule is getting upset because they're rooting for Matt Rule to have success.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Oh, yeah. And the rooting for him to have all of the success, right? All of the success of success. But as he said, both things can be right at the same time, is that I can want for him total and absolute success and still be disappointed and upset when it doesn't happen. Right or wrong, both things can be true. And every fan is speaking to it to say,
Starting point is 00:33:38 we look forward to the day when Husker football wins the way we want them to win. The way they want to win, we're just having difficulty getting there and it's a difficult ride. Yeah. It's a bumpy road. Well, that's where the emotional maturity comes in. Well, you can really break it down, right? Because we've all had coaches that got in our grill. And if you played sports, that was like on top of you. And you're like, man, that was brutal. But you know, you always knew it's like, he's not doing this because he hates me. Yeah. He's just, he wants more. No, because he knows that you're capable of it. So that's, that's where it comes from. It's crazy. But we're rooting for them to come up with answers.
Starting point is 00:34:18 They got 10 days before Washington. It's a full thing. You only have two losses, right? Two losses. Well, that's what we're going to call to it. We're going to talk about what happens. What does it mean if they beat Washington? Text line, what will it mean when and if the Huskers beat Washington?
Starting point is 00:34:37 What will you say? What will you say then? Go ahead and text them in. We'll read them all when we come back and close out. Back to one-on-one with D.P. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. I stay correct that Scott says, regardless, if we win and look good doing it, since fans will still say, but it wasn't a ranked win.
Starting point is 00:35:13 But what if, does that mean that the Huskers are good or better? Will they be better after the win? Does the sixth win against Washington, does that make them good? I mean, yeah, anytime you take the win, I just think it adds, it gives them more merit. I'll say that. Virginia Pirates says, what do you mean if they win, if they lose? They probably should just better win. Yeah, I'm, listen, what if, again, what if they're that good?
Starting point is 00:35:42 We just don't know they're that good. I love to see it. Did we know basketball was as good as they were? Oh. did we know baseball was as good as they were? Nope. Did we know that softball was as good as they were? No.
Starting point is 00:35:56 No, no. We did not think of them. With the run that they put together, no. No. Volleyball is the only one I can say yes. We didn't expect volleyball to go undefeated. I'm at the point of our volleyball. I'm just like,
Starting point is 00:36:05 no, last year you did not expect them to go undefeated. That's why it was such a big deal. Okay. I mean, that's fair. Did you expect Nebraska to be third, fourth, and third in wrestling? No, I'll be honest. Right. Sorry, Ridge.
Starting point is 00:36:20 I know we're sitting out there. No, but here's the thing. We don't know, and we don't know until we don't know. If you watched, Rich can tell you about them losing to Northern Iowa and people lighting their brums and marching down O Street. But that's the group that finished second. Wait, what are you talking about? Entering this season. That's literally the, that's literally the team.
Starting point is 00:36:38 You wanted Mark landing fire. I saw the internet stuff. People wanted him fired. And I went, don't please don't. But what if you're, no, because then you need to say, what if you're wrong? Yeah. Because there's a In this space, there is a
Starting point is 00:36:51 large probability that you are. Because none of the people that were talking about Mark Manning, no wrestling like Mark Graney. Mark Manning. None of them. None of the people that, listen, I don't know. You can put in a thimble what I know in football compared to Mark to Matt Rule. Could I just script up an offense the way Dana Hoggars again?
Starting point is 00:37:13 Not a chance. So we're talking about it. but we don't know what they know. And that's the reality. And it still may not be good enough. But if they beat Washington, when they beat Washington and sit in at 6 and 2, what happens then? You're 6 and 2, your bowl eligible,
Starting point is 00:37:36 and here comes Illinois, in a game that if you beat Washington, you expect them to win. You have some expectation. 7 and 2 looks pretty sexy. Now, what if you go five and three? No, but what if you don't? What if you don't? We don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:54 What if you don't? What if you don't? What if you beat Washington? You feel better, and then you're looking at Illinois and then what if you beat Washington in Illinois? Do you apologize? Apologize for, no. No, nobody's apologized. I mean, nobody's going back to go, man.
Starting point is 00:38:14 I was wrong. Yeah. No, not one. Nobody that watched and celebrated Manning and the national runner-up Husker wrestling. Did they go back and go, we're sorry? Well, they didn't even know what was happening. Well, there's that. There's that part.
Starting point is 00:38:29 Now they've turned it around and now people are very aware of the. There's that. And I bring all that up because today they released, they do the first. The athletic does its first bowl prediction. What's the bowl game? First bowl prediction. Are you prepared? Harrison, where would you guess the Huskers are slated?
Starting point is 00:38:50 They are slated. I can tell you who they're scheduled to go against. I mean, I'd hope it to be the Pop-Tart Bowl, but I don't think we're good enough yet for that one. They are scheduled, projected to play on January 2nd. How's that? Against LSU. Oh.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Oh, look we go one or two ways there. in the citrus bowl. That'd be big for the Huskers, depending what they look like. That's the first projection. Ooh. All right. How you like them apples?
Starting point is 00:39:23 That's progress. A better let how you like them oranges. Amen. Citrus. Let's get it. Ridge love it coming up next.
