Starting point is 00:00:00 Back to one-on-one with DP. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. Final segment of one-on-one. No DP today. No Bach either. Jake Sorensen, Rudy Gress, the fourth filling in for this one hour. Adam Kerker up next to follow this. Rudy's going to have an all day.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Oh, yeah. Line up. You've been on since nine. You're going to three because Bach is out for today. And then, you know, it's summertime. So we hope to have more people helping out. this week, but that is the way it is. And we roll on because the news never stops. Nope. Yeah. So this industry always goes, Rudy. If anyone's tuning in all day,
Starting point is 00:00:38 it'll be, you'll be hearing some Longhorn chatter every now and then. Once in a while. Not too much, not too much, but every now and then. You lose your way once a while. Rudy is the way it is. 4, 64, 5, 685. You can call or text as always. I want to make sure shout out a couple things. We did not really give Jory from enough kudos yet on this show. Jordy from, of course, unbelievable career player of the year in college softball, deservingly so. Leadoff home run yesterday. No hitter through five and a third. And then Connor jinxed it and we lost the game three to one.
Starting point is 00:01:12 But there's people that are criticizing Ron Ravelle for pitching Jority on Saturday in the 5-1 loss to Alabama. And I don't know if I get that. Hindsight's always 20-20. You can always say, well, Jensen was there to pitch and Alexis Jensen is really good. but here's the deal, Rudy. It's the college world series. You put your best player out there. You put the player of the year
Starting point is 00:01:37 in college softball on the mound as long as she wants to be there. And yeah, the first inning was dice. You had three-run, home run. That was unfortunately. You never bounced back from that. But don't tell me that you, not you, that you out there know more than Rhonda Ravel or Jordy Fromm,
Starting point is 00:01:54 who is the face of softball. If she feels like she can pitch, she's going to pitch as she should. And yeah, going back to that point, she's, I said it yesterday when I was on air, moments, moments before and seconds
Starting point is 00:02:07 before the home run happened last night. But because people on the chat as well, they're like, I don't know why we haven't, like now that the hitters, no hitters broken up, why are we not putting Jensen in there? Which I kind of understand that,
Starting point is 00:02:16 but that was Texas's best hitter. You have the best player in the country in 40 from. You're taking that chance every single time. And I think that's all it comes down to is, yes, Alexis Jensen is amazing. Again, a top pitcher in the country in her respect.
Starting point is 00:02:28 It should be great. next year too. Yeah, exactly. But I'm going to take the girl who's been there. I'm going to take the girl who's won at all multiple times already. Right. I'm taking my chance with her. And I think that was the idea there.
Starting point is 00:02:39 And obviously, didn't get out to the start against Alabama you wanted. But even if she would have gone out there and thrown a gym, one run's not good enough to be many teams in this tournament right now on one hit either. So, I mean, there's a couple different ways to look at those losses. I'm not putting the entire blame on the offense or Jordy entirely either. But, yeah, I mean, you would have wanted more amongst from all those girls in the game
Starting point is 00:02:57 against Alabama. You just, you can't rely on one run being enough. This is, you know, this is a great competition. There's great pitchers, of course, in all eight of these teams that showed up to Oklahoma City. And, you know, the bats have to get going. Nebraska had their chances, but they could not capitalize. And Jordy had won, you know, bad inning. And that's, that's sports.
Starting point is 00:03:17 That's baseball. That's softball. Nebraska had a runner on base in the seventh. They couldn't score all. And that's it. Three one Longhorns win and season over. But don't forget, for all the pain of that long. Nebraska did beat Arkansas on Thursday night to get the first win since 2002 for Nebraska
Starting point is 00:03:34 softball in the World Series, which was incredible game. The walk-up by Ava Cusack was amazing. I think the time, the home run by hand of court tied up and extras was also amazing. But everybody wants to second-guess decisions, second-guess coaches. Rhonda Ravel has been here for a long, but 30-plus years for a reason, Rudy. She's an incredible coach. she knows her team better than anybody. No fan out there knows this team better than Rhonda Rovell.
Starting point is 00:04:04 So if you're going to doubt her, then I can't really help you. And like I said, I will say it once again. If Jordy Fromm feels like she's able to pitch and go, then she has to be your choice as the best player in the game of softball. Alexis Jensen, we have all the hope for it to be great. She was great this year. And hopefully that leads to Nebraska. get to another great year next year,
Starting point is 00:04:27 where they can be in this position again without Perrin and several, without Fromm and other great seniors that are graduating. But, yeah, I'm not going to sit here and ever, never question a decision made by, by Coach Ravelle or Jordy Fromm and to say, listen, that's elite competition. This didn't get it done when they had to get it done.
Starting point is 00:04:48 And I also, obviously, I'm not too sure if you're watching the broadcast at all, but ESPN during that seventh inning after the three-round home run and it was the Huskers last three out, So they just kept panning to Jordi the entire time. And again, rightfully so, I understand how TV works. So that's, I just didn't like because what it looked like, I had no audio on again, but it just looked like they were panning to her like, oh, here's where the blame goes. And I mean, at the end of the day, she's going to get the loss.
Starting point is 00:05:10 The home run was on her, everything like that. But she was also, again, as a Longhorn fan, I can say this now. For those six innings, I was like, yeah, this is, this is all Jordi. This is all Nebraska. And again, one thing leads to another. And in the span of three at bats, now you're losing. sure, but that was one of the most insane efforts I've seen, and they panned to the crowd, and everybody when they mentioned that she had a no hitter in the six right before they jinxed
Starting point is 00:05:31 it. And it was like, she's doing one of her, she's having one of the best outings of the season on the biggest stage of them all. I mean, one pitch stays middle zone a little bit too much, and then there's a home run against, again, one of the better hitters in the country. But that effort, everything, 133 pitches game one, 40 pitches game two. And I believe like somewhere in the 75 to 80 pitch range yesterday. And not once did she ever look out of it. Maybe the Alabama game was a little sluggish, but rough start. Yeah, yesterday she was, she was dialed in. Everything was there. I mentioned it and I'll say it again, there's nobody else you really wanted with that ball
Starting point is 00:06:02 on there. No matter how good Jensen is and she is going to be amazing. But with the best, again, one of the better teams, you have a national championship winning Longhorn team defending title this year and you're going to throw Jordy ball out there. Give me a praise. You're going to throw Jordy ball out there every time though. Right now in the World Series, Texas, your Longhorns are playing again against Tennessee, right now, bottom third nose. score. They'll play again at 1.30 today. Alabama, Texas Tech at 6 and 830 tonight. Those both guaranteed games? No, I think if Texas loses, they're done. Yeah, because if they beat Tennessee,
Starting point is 00:06:36 they play again back to back. If not, they're done. In terms of updates right now in college baseball, as we have the final games today, Florida State up on St. John's 1-0 in the third. Georgia Tech playing Oklahoma at 2 o'clock, trying to get to a super regional. They've been outstanding so far. Georgia Tech has Kentucky, West Virginia playing, of course, is Milwaukee and Auburn. at 5 o'clock. Troy and Florida today. USC, Texas, A&M. So a lot of good games
Starting point is 00:07:01 today. Of course, our regional is over and Lincoln, Ole Miss has already advanced and they're on to the next round. But fun, fun weekend of baseball. Also, a couple of quick things here before you're out of here, Rudy. In the football world, I'm seeing that
Starting point is 00:07:17 Russell Wilson is leaving the NFL to go work for C. NFL and CBS. So he's going to be a broadcaster now. Mr. Unlimited is in the broadcast booth. I'm seeing also that O'Dell Beckham Jr. is back with the Giants. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:07:32 As of this morning. I did not see that. And I'm, you know, shout out to Nebraska commit. Trey Taylor for being the rival's elite 11 camp MVP in California this weekend. Yeah. I'm, I am hyped up for that dude to get here in a couple. Not this season, obviously, but next season. the 2027 season will be his, I believe, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Well, it might be hit. Let's see if you start. That is just here. That's the year he'll be here. There you go. But yeah, I mean, everything we're seeing, I like, I like how truly how hard he can throw that football because we didn't see too much of that with Raola. I wouldn't have the Velo on it like we wanted.
Starting point is 00:08:07 And I think he's going to be really good. Obviously, it's only seven on seven for the talk of this week. And there's more to it when you're, when he'll be playing against some of the best defense in the country in the Big Ten. So it'll be exciting. But, I mean, I'm hopeful for him. I like it so far. Now, here's the deal, Rudy, with Trey Taylor.
Starting point is 00:08:23 So, of course, he has moved to Nebraska. He's to play at Millard South this year, I believe, Miller's South. We're setting up for, you know, I'm not trying to stir the pot here at all. Okay, this is, I'm just, this is reality. He has moved in Nebraska. We already know that Ohio State has contacted him. He said, no, I'm sticking around Nebraska.
Starting point is 00:08:41 But he just got the MVP of the rivals camp. Nebraska is in a season right now where they might not have a great year. They could go six and six, seven and five. they go eight and four, there's no conversation. You're happy and Trey's coming in. If things were to go south here, which is possible, and he's already moved to the state to play high school football, it's sending up for a fascinating fall.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Oh, yeah. With Trey Taylor's recruiting and how he works in high school with him, and also the success or potential lack thereof of football. We hope, of course, that Nebraska football starts off as they could at 5 and 0, either beats or pushes Indiana, maybe beats or. beats Oregon or pushes them on the road. Washington's not unbeatable here at Lincoln. In November, Illinois and Rutgers are not unbeatable teams.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Iowa's not unbeatable in Iowa City. Ohio is to be tough here in town. Like there is a path to nine win. There is. There really is. It's just we haven't seen that justified in terms of the performance on the field, which that can change this year. But if they were to have that, then everything's exciting with Trey. But any sort of bad start or bad year, you start saying,
Starting point is 00:09:48 Okay, hang on, our future is, he has moved to the state. Yeah. Will he stay happy here in Nebraska? Because now everyone's going to want him as, oh, yeah. The MVP of the Elite 11 King. Yeah, and I think one thing I mentioned earlier with AD before we get out of here, I like how a lot of what he says, whether it's about Nebraska, whether it's about himself, I feel like I believe him.
Starting point is 00:10:09 But again, we're in an era of college football where coaches and players can really say anything to kind of be con men. So, I mean, I'm not throwing that out there with him. But from what I've heard, I mean, from what he answers and how much he does pride himself on being a future Husker. I'm hopeful that that won't change the outlook after this season. Obviously, he's going to be getting some more calls now after this weekend. But, I mean, I feel like he's pretty body on being a husker. But again, we've seen that from a lot of other coaches, a lot of players around the country.
Starting point is 00:10:32 So it will be interesting. But it'll be a fun time. I mean, I'm sure Millard South is going to get a lot more attention than ever before now. So that'll be funny. I've not been to a high school game in a while. I might try to attend a Miller South. Oh, yeah. And I regret, I should have a jet tomorrow in college.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I did see him play obviously in the state tournament, state championships here at Nebraska, but I never saw him in person. Now he's at Alabama, so we'll be tracking his career as well with the Crimson Tide. But that will do it for us. Reminder, Adam Carcker's show is up next. Rudy is going to stick around because you're pulling a marathon
Starting point is 00:11:05 here on a Monday, filling in for Bach and filled in for Nick Sainert. Yep. But that will do it for us. I appreciate you guys tuning in and texting you. Keep the text coming all day long at 402, 4664-568-5. More of the ticket returns with Adam Cariker. Top of the hour. Next.
