Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 The Ticket. We're back here on one-on-one on 93-7 the ticket. Just a few minutes away from the Adam Character Show starting, but I did want to get some thoughts here on Nebraska's spring game attendance and what that might look like.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Of course, Nebraska did not hold a spring game last year. Instead, had the Huster games about 10,000 people. attended that, but again, I think if they could have maybe promoted it a little bit better or new kind of the situation before it came about, might been able to get more people in. But under Matt Rule's first spring game, they had 66,045. In the second spring game, 60,452, throughout Scott Frost's years, taking out the COVID year and the year afterward because of only 50% attendance allowed, they averaged 75,000. Mike Riley's tenure, average 76,000.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Bo Polini outside of the 2012 game. You take that one out because of the weather impacted the game, and they did that video game, spring game. I thought that was kind of cool. Average around 71,000. Going back to Bill Callahan, 59,000 average for the spring game. But it doesn't sound like the expectations are for that to happen once again. You go to the fan information site for the spring game,
Starting point is 00:03:33 and we'll see it tomorrow if you get there. is that there will not be seating in north and south stadium. You'll have to sit in the east and west lower bowls is what they say. Yep. So not expecting a packed house even from the University of Nebraska here. Very interesting. Since I haven't bought tickets, is it just GA? Yeah, yep, just general mission.
Starting point is 00:03:55 I remember the days growing up, we talked about growing up and stuff. There's Trey Taylor again. Anyway, so I remember the days growing up where the spring game, like, I remember going down to the Husker ticket office and going down to the Husker ticket office across the Memorial Stadium that I don't even know if it's still there anymore. Going down there, as soon as the tickets went on sale, I would then, we were trying to be the first ones in line
Starting point is 00:04:26 and we would get first row on the end South Stadium. We did it for like five years straight. First row, South Stadium, that's where we were. Sorry, it's, it's distracting. I know. Trey Taylor is jaywalking again. And there's a group of kids, like recognizing him. So he's going to have to be used to that.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Trade Taylor is jaywalking. Like, currently is walking in the middle of the street over there. He's just walking down the middle. Oh, is that 11th Street? Yeah. So that's got of interesting. Obviously, whatever you want to make of it.
Starting point is 00:05:00 That's just, this is just us seeing what we're seeing. Well, he was about jaywalked across the busiest street in Lincoln. He's getting a note link in here. Oh, he's in his car. Where's he going? We better talk good about it because he's probably going to turn us on. He might, yeah, yeah. Great Taylor.
Starting point is 00:05:15 A part for the spring game. Ready to go for the spring game tomorrow. Big recruiting weekend. But it really is. And that's part of the reason I'm sure that he is in town and getting ready is there's a huge amount of folks here. Well, yeah. There's something about spring that just feels like a reset, longer days, fresh energy,
Starting point is 00:05:31 and the motivation to try something new. This spring, that's something new, could be. learning a new language. That's where Rosetta Stone comes in. Starting point is 00:07:27 There is that too. I suppose, yeah, I forgot the whole situation driving to Omaha. He doesn't live here. So that's interesting. But in any case, yeah. So if you had to throw a number out there, what number do you think? Like I said, the average has been $60,000. You take a year off. So now maybe some fans that then you include all the interest.
Starting point is 00:07:50 At least 30? You think 30? 25? I sat between 25 and 30. Like I was thinking 27, 28. Yeah. That's where I'm at. We got a text on the text line that basically was like,
Starting point is 00:08:02 I bought tickets just in case I wanted to go or I could give them out. Yeah. I don't know. I think that there's, I think that there's a lot of people that are excited about Nebraska Spring Sports right now. Like I know like my whole bit on this station is like Nick Big, big baseball guy, big softball. Like seriously, though, like think about what's going on at Haymarket Park and Bullen Stadium tomorrow in this weekend.
Starting point is 00:08:26 At Haymarket Park, you have a team in Nebraska baseball that's won 15 of the last 16 games and are ranked in the top 25, and they play Indiana at home. And then on the other side, across the sidewalk, you have a top six matchup in the country between Nebraska and UCLA. Like, that's what's going on at not at the same time, but basically on the same day. Like, you can, there's going to be a lot of excitement and buzz. Like, tomorrow, Bach, here's what I think will happen.
Starting point is 00:08:57 I think downtown will be a fun. experience tomorrow. I think that the bars, like Berries with the Nebraska Grates Foundation, we knew about that with Monty, who came on the show yesterday, the rail yard will be cool. Like, it might be a thing to where the spring game has got 35,000 for the first half.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Yeah. Half time, it clears out. People go, okay, hey, you know what? We still got, there's still games going on across Lincoln tomorrow. Let's just go, stay out. Let's just hang out. Let's go grab some lunch. Like, I feel like it's that type of a day. tomorrow. Yeah, I can certainly see that. And like you're saying, I mean, you can make a whole day out of it is part of the excitement, too, is I know Husker fans were hoping an elite eight viewing party would be part of this. And so maybe that's why it's scheduled the way it is. The other thing,
Starting point is 00:09:45 you know, a lot of different travel factors, all that. But, you know, both the games, the baseball and the softball game, if you do want to go, are at two o'clock. So that would be a pretty good time, you know, following the football game to be able to make it way over there and just have a whole, you know, a Husker experience for the day. Again, would have been nice if the Elite 8 was part of that too, but it's going to be a fun time one in the way or the other. So a friend of mine who does sports out in Omaha, Andy Kendi and Lauren Michelson,
Starting point is 00:10:15 they are experiencing the TSA line. I just saw the Andy Kendi put on Twitter buck down Houston. They've been in line for over 45 minutes and it has not moved once. Houston TSA. Oh, that's just giving me a headache for everybody's battles of their past airport. You just, oh, feel bad for those guys. Hopefully, uh, hopefully it gets moving. I do wonder if they're, I should text Jake and go, hey, are you guys in security?
Starting point is 00:10:42 Yeah. Are you in the line at least? At least trying to get it, yeah, get it going. All right, that'll wrap it up for one-on-one. Hopefully those guys make it back in the town. I know they will, just hopefully on time. But that'll wrap up for one-on-one. Adam Gerick are coming next year on 93-7, the ticket.
