sponsored by the downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket oh we need to make this happen
just one match one home match cobalt decides he's going to put on the face paint do the
ultimate war like I've got the mask I can give him the mask and just have him bring all the guys
out with like ultimate warrior face masks fuck what do you think yeah that'd be great right
and they just they come in and they they don't walk out
Cobalt's got them walking out of the locker room.
No, no.
Sprint.
Sprint out of the tunnel.
Do a full lap around tennis courts.
Then they grab the net facing their opponents.
And they just shake the net like this belongs to us.
You get their ultimate warrior Husker tennis on.
If Bach comes out with the warrior face paint for the three point contest and wins it,
then we'll consider it.
That is everything, right?
That is everything.
Coach, they're in this day and age between one and Duns and the long run.
Nebraska basketball has found success in players who will come, stay, develop,
change the program that way, elevate the program that way.
But in some cases, adding the right player to it elevates the program.
neither is wrong, neither is absolutely right.
It's just a matter of preference and execution.
What say you, what do you think about the two?
What's, especially in tennis, what do you think is the easier way or the more effective way?
Well, in tennis, you just, you know, it's an individual game and you're playing against one guy and you've got to be better than the guy in front of you.
So what we're seeing a lot right now is people just say, like, we got to.
I recruit really good players and we can do that now.
It's pretty easy.
There's a few schools that have really turned it around really quickly.
You know, it used to not be very easy to do that.
You know, everyone used to have four to have scholarships
and you couldn't make a mistake on a guy because, you know,
people didn't transfer as much.
And now you have, you know, teams and programs with up to nine scholarships
for nine guys or 10 guys.
And you can get away with making a few mistakes.
and if someone's not the right fit, they can transfer
and you can bring in another guy.
You got NIL and RevShare and all these different variables now.
So there's a lot of different ways to skin the cat today.
And I think you have to figure out first what, you know,
how you want your program to look.
You know, what does it look like?
How do you want it to be?
What is it based around?
And then you got to find the right fit.
You know, each year I think you got to have a really good pulse on the team
in the locker room and the guys.
And, you know, there's always attrition,
whether it's through graduation or transferring or whatever it is these days.
And you have to have a good feel for what you're going to have next year.
And if there's something that you need,
you have to be very careful and selective in the portal.
And you've got to be able to land a guy, too,
if there's someone there to land.
So it's not easy.
But I think you've got to have a combination of both.
I think it's important to have guys that really care about the program that have been in the program.
I think you have that with like a guy like Sam Hoyberg that's he was a walk-on and he's earned everything he's got here.
And I think that's why all he really cares about is winning and playing for the team.
And I think that's a huge reason why the team's doing well in basketball.
So in tennis, we look for that stuff too because I think, you know, in a couple years you can have a guy like that really be a spearhead for the team.
and then I think your program just continues to evolve
and you're able to recruit different players
and address your needs easier.
You know, you're coming to the table with recruits
with different bargaining chips.
And, you know, it's a whole evolution, honestly.
So you got to just, you got to really know what you have
and what you have to project your team pretty well
for the next year.
And you have to understand, okay, am I trying to do this in one year?
Am I trying to do this in,
five years, you know, it depends on the demands of the job and what the expectations are,
and at least in your head and from the administration. But I know one thing, and that's,
we're all trying to win here. Mr. Danins made it clear that, you know, we're here to win.
And so for me, that's everything that I would ever want and ask for is an administration that's
that's asking for that stuff.
That's why we all get into this business,
and that's why we're all here competing as coaches and players.
But I guess this is a long answer for a short question,
but I guess you're trying to find the best fit for your program
and your guys and what you really need and then build.
Let's close the hour.
Let the folks know what's next for the Huskers and the tennis program.
Yeah, Bach and I spoke about it briefly at the beginning,
but we got a huge weekend this weekend Friday night at 6th at the Dillon Tennis Center.
