Starting point is 00:00:00 Back to one-on-one with DP. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. Chaviddle Lincoln says, I'm hoping Texas versus Nebraska for the championship. I appreciate that. Den Dan Dano says this week is the funniest, loudest, wildest event I've ever attended. It's my closest equivalent to football in the 90s. My son's generation, who is 22 years old, could have experienced. Thank you, team and Husker Nation.
Starting point is 00:00:40 A fantastic weekend. Dan McCannick is, yeah, also the move, changing hands on the way to the hoop. That's the middle drop. And that's the thing that Frager does better than anybody on the Huskers is to get from right side to the left side and finish with the left hand. I mean, that's where some of his best dunks have come. It's not strong side. It's weak side.
Starting point is 00:01:03 It's him getting down the middle and then getting to the left side of the hoop or left side of the rim. Texer says this. We had a game between Danny Hurley and Mick Cronin last night. Boyberg shows that you don't have to be a complete jerk to succeed. No, I mean, listen, Brad's got a heart condition, man. There's no chaos allowed. That dude has a real condition. Like, no, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Y'all can go through what you want to go through. the rules of coaching are simple, especially a high-level coaching. Control the controllable. If you can control your emotions, that is one thing for you that will not beat you. You'll be logical. You'll be balanced and based all the time. I would say to my teams all the time, it was one of the rules of engagement. When chaos happens, slow down.
Starting point is 00:02:01 remember the rules and chaos no longer exists. It ceases to exist. Bach, in a moment of chaos, if you know what the rule is and you've practiced the rule, you've practiced the next step, chaos can't exist. These Huskers have been there before.
Starting point is 00:02:25 They've been there before. They've played this game. The small feature they did with a, Hoyberg twins before the game and just saying that, listen, you've played point guards your whole life, just know what you're doing with the ball. There are rules of engagement, but all the rules. Rick mask in that critical possession understood the rules of engagement. If this, then that, there's an answer for everything.
Starting point is 00:02:54 And then there's execution up. You still have to execute. If you follow the rules, you are more likely to execute because you're familiar. You're doing what's familiar to you. We're not asking. We saw the Hoyberg put back earlier in the year on a free throw. We saw that. We've seen that with rink.
Starting point is 00:03:17 We've seen Fraylor go down the middle and get to the left side of the rim. We've seen that. We've seen Jamaricus catch on the wing, jab step to the right, get to the elbow, knock down the mid-range. We've seen that. Coach Hoyberg is not asking anybody to do a thing that they haven't done. or practiced or drilled in full. That's the beauty of it.
Starting point is 00:03:45 That is the beauty of it. But that's why they're having the success that they're having. Duane says this. It's so good to see all the other UNL sports coaches and players supporting each other and this basketball team and seeing volleyball players cheering mid-flight to see all the different videos of the fans' collective elation on the go-ahead basket and the collective breath holding
Starting point is 00:04:06 for the final of the shot as a student of the late 80s in early 90s and a fan for more than 50 years. This is pretty cool stuff, so excited for Huskerhood. It's amazing. Fred Nade Hoiberg says this. I'm loving every minute of the season started going to Husker basketball games when Jerry Fort was a sophomore. There have been some really good teams over the years
Starting point is 00:04:26 that people forget about no chance to win a tourney game because they didn't invite enough teams. All fair. All fair. You know, cigar goes to that. I wasn't trying to detract from how awesome basketball team is and I sat on my couch and screamed at the TV Saturday night. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I have poo-pooed Husker basketball for so long because they've been mediocre or bad for so long. I love seeing them succeed. Kupska says, what's up? What's up, D.P. Husker Nation, we are sweet 16 bound in Houston. Has a big problem on their hand. Call the National Beer Guard and tell them they need Bushlight for reinforcement stack. Is Bushlight the beverage of choice for Husker fans?
Starting point is 00:05:08 I guess we learned that. I did not know this. I did not know that. I did not know that. Texer says this, and this may be the funniest text of the morning. He says, I didn't cry when I got married. I didn't cry when my kids were born. I cried when we beat Troy.
Starting point is 00:05:25 I'm pretty sure he cried Saturday night too. Yeah, we're going to cover your back for you, bro. Don't worry about it. He said, listening to the Vandy game at a father-daughter dance with Taylor Swift in one ear and Kent Pavolka and the other was overwhelming. Love these Huskers. Bravo. Well done.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Having a plan. Rodent South Lincoln, 863. This is the equivalent of Nebraska's first college world series in 2001. Yeah, I'm with you. Remember. Remember. I said Brad from Baldwin, Baldwin says, after the first win, O Street was crazy.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And Cornhusker Highway lined up with fans on a cold, snowy day as they drove from the airport to the vanity to celebrate. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and here's my box. I allow every host to decide what you want to read and what you don't want to read. I'm just not reading negative text in this hour. That's just me.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I don't understand. Feel good for your community, your brother, your neighbor, etc. That, that, that, that's it. Here's the other thing. shout out to the folks who showed up at the homecoming, right, the flight, return flight. Bravo. Well done. On the flight back to Lincoln on the plane, third person on the plane, was a national champion.
Starting point is 00:07:06 But if I said national champion and number three in the world and a Husker, what say you? I was on the flight back with the Husker basketball team. No. My flight back from Cleveland. Oh, you're a flight bag, okay. From Cleveland. They were in Chicago. Axelina Johansen.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Brasca track. Just won the national championship. And then days later, got on a plane, traveled over to worlds, and won the bronze medal in the world. in the world. Number one in the country. Greatest all-time throw in the history, and several of the greatest all-time throw
Starting point is 00:07:54 in history at Nebraska track. Husker baseball on a roll, Husker softball, on a roll. 14 straight. Both of them, Husker softball knocking off two two number ones, two of the top teams in the country. And then this.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I got to spend the weekend in Cleveland watching Nebraska wrestling. Now, let me say this in full. One, one of the greatest wrestlers to ever do it at Nebraska, Jordan Burrow, one of the best ever, one of the most acclaimed wrestlers in the world, certainly in the country, but in the world. Andrew Taylor Taylor is now the most acclaimed college wrestler
Starting point is 00:08:48 in Nebraska history, from the state of Nebraska, a Nebraska native. They're walking on campus today is a young man who's not a senior, mind you, from Omaha, who won the national championship last year, was the best of the country, and then was a finalist, was the runner up this year. And in his draft, is a young man, a sophomore by the name of Christopher Mentot.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Also, national runner up. Rock Hardy, national runner up. And then here's the story. Bach, if a five seed makes it to the final four, is it a big deal? It's a surprise, yeah. Four seed, big deal, right? Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 00:09:53 Those are the top 16 to 20 teams in the country. Pretty big deal to be amongst the elite. in that Husker wrestling program is a young man by the name of Chance Lamer. Chance Lamer got eliminated from the Big Ten tournament and thought that he had missed his opportunity to go to, to qualify for nationals. The automatic bids were gone. They were done. He had missed out. And then the Powers of Be said, sir, you are one of the best wrestlers in the country in your weight class.
Starting point is 00:10:28 They gave him a number 20 seat, number 20 in the entire weight class, number 20. And Chance Lamer as a 20 seed, no automatic bit, finished fourth in the country. Four, four. Salas R. Red would have finished with another All-American, broke his ankle in the match against number one. And let me tell you, the sound of that. that injury will haunt me. That's Joe Thaisbunesque. Pretty brutal.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Pretty brutal stuff. But what a great ambassador to that young man is. Seven all-Americans. Seven. Pretty good times. I forever deem him March Manning. They talk about Izzo madness and all the March Izo and March Manning, Nebraska Wrestling.
Starting point is 00:11:42 number three in the country. But what is the reaction if Nebraska finished third in basketball? Make the final four. Hard to even say. Right? If Nebraska finished third in the Big Ten in football, pretty big deal? Yeah. The Huskers are number three in the country.
Starting point is 00:12:05 And it's a performance up. Congratulations, Huskers. All across the board. All of you. Well done. Well done. Well done. Well done. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 937 the Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
