We were asked a question on the text line.
How many Huskos have been in the Olympics?
They've competed in the Olympics.
What we can tell you is that in the 100 plus years,
106 years.
As of Tokyo,
115 different Husker athletes have been,
have competed, eight coaches,
46 medals earned,
of course, a Husker football coach's mother,
and a nine-time medal winner.
The very first was Lewis Anderson,
a former boy from Genoa, Nebraska,
was the Husker's first Olympic athlete,
the middle-distance runner competed in the men's 15th.
100-meter run at the 1912 Olympic Games in drum roll, Stockholm, Sweden.
The 1912 summer games, and Lewis Anderson was the first Husker to compete in Olympic Games.
1912, Stockholm Sweden.
He farmed on a 175-acre farm here near Lincoln, raising bees, fruits, and vegetables.
The medal count for Husker in the Olympics stands at 46.
Actually, now that number's 48 through 21 Olympic Games.
That includes 13 gold, 11 silver, 24 bronze, the most recent, of course, volleyball,
doing their thing winning with gold.
The first medalist, Keith Alvin St. Hope Gardner,
Jamaican track and field athlete who ran under the British West Indies in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome,
was Nebraska's first Olympic medalist.
He was part of the British West Indies
1,600 meter relay team,
which earned the bronze,
the first gold medalist.
Huskers,
Charlie Green,
sprinter who ran in the 1968
Mexico City Games.
He was the first leg.
He ran the opening leg of the 400 meter relay,
which took the gold medal.
And, oh, that was a fantastic
4-by-100 group.
Oh, my goodness.
That's the Tommy Smith and crew.
one Carlos.
My goodness, John Carlos.
Well done.
Wow.
Okay.
And then the first woman, you ready for this?
Mark Einweiler?
I'm ready.
The first woman to medal was the mother of Scott Frost.
Carol?
Carroll.
Track and feed athlete competed through the discus in the 68 games in Mexico City.
And then the Pan Am games in 67 sharing the gold medal.
And then, of course, she went on to coach Merlin.
Adi, who is probably considered the greatest track and field athlete, a female track and field athlete
that we know of.
Nine-time medalist Merlin Adi.
Yeah, look at her go.
And Carol Frost, soon to be known as the second best thrower in Husker history.
Yeah, soon to be.
Yeah.
Soon to be.
So that's the deal.
Actually, it was back in studio.
She went across the street to go to the store.
And we now have to confess that we've been talking about her since.
she left. And the text line and the fans are calling you super impressive.
Oh, wow.
I said, what an impressive young lady. Don says he's getting excited to now have trust that
we're having Husker athletes on as well and hear from coaches like Dusty Jonas, absolutely.
Eric called you an incredible woman.
Wow.
Right? Look at you go. I'm building fans already.
This is incredible. We also got asked a question.
Back home, do you have aggressive wildlife?
Do you have animals that are around that you guys either chase or or hunt?
I mean, yeah, we hunt moose.
Moose?
Do you call it that?
Yes.
Rabbits.
There's a lot of disparity between moose and rabbit.
Yeah.
What was called?
The boars.
Boars.
Yeah.
But I don't.
But people do.
Yeah, I'm a member of the, I'm not like a hunter.
I don't have that.
Yeah.
But we have a lot of wild animals, yeah.
Right?
And so there are meals that are built on that?
Yeah.
Yeah, we do a lot of stews.
Okay.
On wild animals.
Yeah.
But you haven't brought that to America.
No.
No.
Like, I mean, I guess you can.
can't bite, but it's usually like if one in the family is hunting and then you just cook.
You just whip up a stew.
I mean, it's what's around.
As you said, you make all your meals.
So, you know.
And we pick, we have a lot of like mushrooms and stuff like that.
That's the conversation we were having wild mushroom.
I'm team wild mushroom.
What do you do?
What do you do with your mushroom?
Oh, we do you call it fry it in a pan with like butter and then make it like stew of it.
and then we put it on sandwich.
Oh, it's so good.
I think we call it canterill.
Okay.
The type of mushroom.
Yeah.
Yeah.
See, we were talking about all these things before the show.
Yeah.
And it was perfect.
We were supposed to ask her something because the question came up as soon as we left.
And we said we should have asked her.
Oh, I don't remember.
Oh, I failed.
There was something we were supposed to ask.
Shoot.
Don't remember.
It'll come up.
It'll come up.
Next time.
Yeah.
We'll do that.
So it's there.
Again, thank you.
Did you find everything you were looking for?
I need to do what.
I need to do what the hostess is.
Did you find everything you were looking for over here?
We're going to make sure since you're down here and you got to the show.
We're going to put you in some ticket apparel.
Oh.
Right?
So we're going to do that.
So remind us to do that before you leave.
And we'll take some pictures.
Oh, we did ask.
So who are your favorite teammates, the ones that you talk to the most?
Because those are going to be people that you do, like,
radio with.
Yeah, name names.
That you're going to bring down here and let us...
It must be my roommates.
They're also on a track team.
Who are your roommates?
It's Michael Asani.
Uh-huh.
Where's she from?
She's from Germany.
Uh-huh.
See?
And Neve Walsh.
She's from Australia.
Okay, there it is.
There it is.
She's from Nebraska.
She's the boring one.
Right.
That was Mark Anwiler.
Send those emails.
Also native Nebraska.
Send those emails to complain to Mark Onweiler.
That's fair.
I think that would be amazing.
And we can do a panel.
And we'll come in and the folks from Canopy Market right down in the Haymarket, they will feed them.
So when you guys come in and do that, you'll have meals.
Wow.
They'll actually feed you.
So we'll work that out for you.
So talk to them, talk to coach.
Yeah.
tell coach previn we said hi we haven't seen him in a while since the pandemic so that's okay so
what do you do what are you going to do with the rest of your day what do you um yeah what i'm going to
have massage at 130 uh and then everybody is now envious of you what is that you get a massage like
oh yeah like we pay good money to get massages yeah it's a part of your normal day
yeah but we don't work as hard yeah but we don't work as hard as you yeah i didn't i didn't
earn that massage.
I wasn't been pressing 200 pounds.
So that,
no, no, that's on.
Okay.
So, yeah,
just have a massage and then
basically just got to study.
Actually,
thank you.
Once again,
this has been,
this has been spectacular.
So we will do this again
real soon.
See, we're friendly.
This is easy enough.
Stay tuned.
The captain's show up next.
Roshan Jackson.
He's got a loaded show,
so don't go anywhere.
He'll take you to two o'clock.
All good stuff.
We appreciate you.
Love you.
Three words.
Go big race.
I don't know.
