Starting point is 00:00:46 I have to predate this by giving the form warning and the disclaimer that who knows what rabbit hole we go down let's get in. Bach, kind, sir. Before we get into this full conversation, if you would, please, sir,

Starting point is 00:01:24 greatly appreciate that it has been an interesting week and it is a big week for husker athletics in a lot of ways as we recover from volleyball and bach i'll ask you this with current situation and circumstance will you watch the women's volleyball final four i think yeah i mean yeah you just nailed it i you just nailed it it's tough you know you just feel like you you should have been there type of thing, but I mean, I'll definitely tune in still kind of be interested in it. Like you said, it's kind of a big weekend of things going on. I wonder how many people are still heading down to Kansas City and Husker gear. I think you'll see a lot of Husker gear in the crowd still there. But, you know, I think part of that too is, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:11 if you want to be the volleyball state, it can't all be about yourself. Uh, you know, so if the volleyball is still close, it's in Kansas City. Uh, let's appreciate the sport. But again, it'll, you'll do so with a dagger in your heart. Hey, man, listen, there, there's a, there's there's there's some of that right the people book they book that thing they booked that thing early as a matter of fact Lionheart he was going to take the whole family and I didn't ask him
Starting point is 00:02:34 whether he was going to take but still take the whole family right it was like bro and he booked this thing long he's got a volleyball family like his wife played college and his daughters all play and uh he's a big supporter of pro volleyball here here in the state of Nebraska
Starting point is 00:02:50 um so he was he was locked in matter of fact I think he may have, he was thrilled about there not being a UFC event so that he can go to the volleyball final four. Taxline, let us know. Are you watching this? Is there too much pain? Is it too soon? Is it too soon?
Starting point is 00:03:09 And I'm okay with the, if you say that you, you know what? Yeah. You know, I don't know. It's kind of the thing that you're divorced from a process and you don't want to watch your ex-girlfriend. you don't want to see you don't want to watch you don't want to watch somebody like we we had the house in in Virginia and I was in the neighborhood the last visit and a part of me wanted to go by just drive by the old neighborhood and see the house but then it hit me like on the way there no I don't want to see somebody else living in my house like that's what have they done to the house like no there's
Starting point is 00:03:52 no good way to do that. So I'm not sure what it is, right? I think that, that, I mean, if you love college volleyball, and there's a difference between, I understand the difference between loving Husker volleyball and loving college volleyball and loving volleyball. There's a difference, right? Shack Dogg says this. Pit coach asking for Husker fans to support them isn't my thing either. I thought it was pretty interesting. you know, that he asked. He's listening to Husker fans. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Some people took it as a dig. Some people thought it was genuine, actually authentic. Like, hey, Husker fans, we're going to be here, right? We'll take the support. But also it's kind of like, well, since you guys aren't doing anything. Well, because the ticket prices went down in a giant, right? Of course they did. Of course they did.
Starting point is 00:04:50 People are now remembering what it was like. like it's one thing to not have them in the final it's another thing to not have them in the final four um because in the final then you've committed to being there for the weekend people already do that thing um most people booked it so that there's an out um we had booked the station had booked reservations but we booked it with the idea that you know what uh we want to be able to get out of it 24 up 24 hours before the booking date and that's what we did So Dave Brasca says, I won't. He goes, I haven't had ESPN since the pandemic.
Starting point is 00:05:28 However, I hope a team Nebraska beat doesn't win. Yeah, well, there's that. You want everybody to lose, quite frankly. Songboard says, I will likely watch it. I love volleyball, but I'm not sure cheering for Pitt. I would rather a Big Ten team win. I don't, I'm, see, I'm weird like that. Like, do you want a Big Ten team?
Starting point is 00:05:51 Do you, is it, is it sacrimonious? Like, is rooting for your rivals to have success? Do you want to listen to the national championship? Like, I thought that was a big part of the pain of the loss to Penn State. Was that they're in conference and you have to see them. You have to see them. There's somebody in your conference going, yeah, we're, we're, we're the poo. Bach, what say you?
Starting point is 00:06:17 Would you rather have somebody else win it? somebody another conference so you don't have to stare them in the face wearing your your wedding ring it's interesting like typically especially in football like i i usually am a cheer for conference guy um but it was kind of funny because nick just asked me about football and it's like yeah i'm cheering for the big 10 and then i think back and i like it just where nebraska is the program it's like the big 10's won the last two titles they could win a third one it could be ohio state indiana that doesn't change how i feel about Nebraska football regardless right right and you know so i think basketball usual we'll cheer for the big 10 just to you know to have your little arguments with
Starting point is 00:06:53 other regions of the country and all that but for volleyball i'm pretty secure in my spot of where nebraska's places and volleyball i don't need a three seed wisconsin to win it for me to be like oh yeah see the big 10 is good we know the big 10's really good and i don't like Wisconsin so no i will not be cheering for the big 10 in the final four well on the other side big tides is this as much as i hate to say it i want texas to win you always want the team that uh that that be beat you to win. Well, that would be Texas A&M. No.
Starting point is 00:07:27 No. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. There are, at some point, Texas, Emma and has to be acknowledged as a villain and a rival to Nebraska. Is that fair? I mean, I think so as long as Treve Alberts is there. Right, like, I mean, right. I mean, but that's the point, right? because there was the video, there's the video
Starting point is 00:07:49 and the pictures of Treb and Tori Danan talking at Devaney. And, you know, everybody was asking, you know, hey, what was being said? Which was a whole thread. Which was a whole threat, right? Because they went buck wild.
Starting point is 00:08:09 But Texas A&M also knocked Nebraska out of the tournament, out of the basketball tournament. like there's some there's some did they play in softball did they just miss in softball I'm trying to think back I'll go look I just think
Starting point is 00:08:26 that at some point you need to circle Texas A&M and we're tired of looking at it we're tired of looking at cups with the best line I just hope all four teams have a good time hope you enjoy yourselves and have a good time uh Texas says this route for your rivals in the conference ESPN has been pushing SCC and ACC as the best conference in volleyball for the last few years.
Starting point is 00:08:49 I've never heard ESPN say that. I've never heard, especially in the broadcast that have been the main event sort of deals where Nebraska was involved. I've never, I've not heard that. I've never heard him talk about the ACC as the conference, as the volleyball conference. And I've certainly, other than, I mean, they talk about Texas, Texas A&M in Florida, but they don't talk. I mean, you're not hearing about, you know, the depth of the, of the SEC when it comes to volleyball. Well, I have to kind of reroute our brains a little bit here. Like the SEC has done pretty well, right?
Starting point is 00:09:29 I mean, with Texas now being part of the SEC, winning in 2022 and 2023, Kentucky, of course, winning in 2020. The ACC, I don't, you know, there's not a whole lot of longstanding ACC. teams there with tradition. Of course, Stanford is one of the best teams in volleyball, but they're in the ACC now. Yeah, but I mean, you don't think, when you think ACC, you don't think Stan. No, and Stanford hasn't won their titles in the ACC.
Starting point is 00:09:54 They just joined with them. You're like, you're like, no. Yeah. I mean, gee whiz, it doesn't seem that the texture says this, that's pretty hilarious. He goes, ask Trev if he wants to wrestle Nebraska. Uh, uh, uh, yeah, better line.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Ask Texas A&M if they want to wrestle. Omaha. Uh, we, yeah, Harrison and I were having that conversation last night that, that I still don't understand as an outsider looking and I do not understand how Omaha does not have a college football. Yeah. I, you, you could stand on, on most corners in Omaha with a sign saying we're looking for college eligible football players and put together a pretty good roster.
Starting point is 00:10:41 And I don't understand. I don't understand. and there's money and resource and all the things that are there. Yeah. Especially if Nebraska doesn't want our crew to Omaha anymore. Well, at least they're not good at it. You know,
Starting point is 00:10:53 I don't know if they're not interested. I just don't think they're good at it. It's like, I'm not interested in dating supermodels. No, you're just not good at it. That's really the issue. It's sort of the problem.
Starting point is 00:11:11 All of it is, fantastic to me again. It's a week. Also, from the text line, to the text line, how many of you're going to watch Husker Hoops or Wrestling this week? And to say that two top 16 programs are going to come to Devaney Center to face the top 10 Husker team, and it truly should be a top five wrestling team. They're currently ranked six.
Starting point is 00:11:37 North Carolina comes in tomorrow night, 7 o'clock. they're ranked number 16. And that's a big one. That's a big bounce back because they've had a couple of weeks in. And then Saturday, Sunday, 1 o'clock, the poke's rolling. And this thing's saucy. This thing has some spice on it. And I do not, it's my hope, that Husker wrestling
Starting point is 00:12:09 does not look past North Carolina. Don't do that. But there's a lot of sauce behind Oklahoma State coming to Lincoln. And if in the story, Nebraska, as the number two seed, they travel to Tulsa for the national duels, they get matched up in the round of four with Oklahoma State. and or Ohio State and Ohio State left some marks on the Huskers
Starting point is 00:12:45 and then immediately following the loss, the dual loss to Ohio State, Nebraska had to rally the troops immediately at face Oklahoma, Oklahoma State in Tulsa. So you're in Tulsa and it's basically a home meet. And let me tell you, it, Bach, it was a, tsunami. It was, it was brutal to watch this, this, I mean, you know, there are three
Starting point is 00:13:15 matches in. The third match doesn't go the way that you, you wanted to go. You had one wrestler who, who, I mean, he broke both, both, both hands. Uh, AJ Ferrari gets concussed. Full concussion, uh, completes the bout. And then goes, and decides he's still going to wrestle, he's still going to wrestle a top five heavyweight following that. And they go through, and it does not go well. It was a trouncing. But a thing that happened when you measure yourself, right, championship heart and championship courage and integrity and all those things, and immediately buy, immediately, you could hear Nebraska say, that's okay. That's okay.
Starting point is 00:14:06 We'll take this one. We'll see you in December at our place. And there are some things in play. Now, the lineup may look a little different Sunday than it does Friday or that it has previously. Just going to say that. There may be some new talent added to the roster. And it's a big deal.
Starting point is 00:14:27 It's a big deal. I think they've sold 5,000 seats for Sunday. I want to say over 4,000 for Friday, but I folks get yourselves over to the bandy both nights uh texas i'll be at both he has season tickets yeah go be right yeah i back have you been to a wrestling match uh not yet i do need to make oh sir oh sir we got to fix that no seriously this this of all things huskers and i know that the crown jewel are those eight home dates at memorial state like i know that i you know
Starting point is 00:15:06 but not all eight of those are crown jewel sort of events. I'll tell you this this weekend at Devaney were those two wrestling meets? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. And Big Ten Wrestling has its own sauce. It has his own spice and its own sauce.
Starting point is 00:15:30 But this one with Oklahoma State, this one with North Carolina, the North Carolina is the table center, and you have to get it right. You have to get it right against the number 16 team. They've got rankings in front of their name too. So they're not impressed, and quite frankly, the ACC would love to come in here and get a win in that building against this program.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So first things, first over the court. I know tomorrow during each of the shows, we would give away a pair of wrestling tickets, first time we've done that. shout out to Brandon and Coach Manning for setting that up. They're giving away there's a, for takedowns, everybody in the building yells three
Starting point is 00:16:15 and they hold up the three, you know, the three, well, they're giving out the big hands. Oh, nice. For folks in the building tomorrow, I told Manning, you know, full 10 or sell and have those bad boys delivered. And we'll give them out with the tickets. So to do that.
Starting point is 00:16:32 And then basketball, I need to highlight it more. I need to say it louder that there's a club in powerful basketball of unbeaten teams. It's a small club. Bach how many how many undefeated men's basketball teams programs are there in the country do you know I don't know off the top of my head yeah you're fine that out and then find out how many undefeated women's programs
Starting point is 00:17:10 there are in the country and it's pretty rare air it's pretty rare air because the weeding out and the thinning of it is impressive and you have to pause and just say well done well done i want to i think that there are two programs in the entire country
Starting point is 00:17:36 who have undefeated men's and women's basketball program right i think there's two one of them resides in lincoln Nebraska and i don't care how long you can say that but the fact that you can say that when you can say that that means that that that in every obstacle you found a way. And it doesn't happen often. It doesn't happen often. I also can't tell me the last time both teams were undefeated
Starting point is 00:18:07 at this point in the year. Well, it's never happened for Nebraska men's basketball as their best start of all time. Right. Right. So this is a time. So, hey, folks, it's a weekend. early 11 o'clock women's basketball at PBA 1 o'clock wrestling at Devaney 7 o'clock men's basketball
Starting point is 00:18:36 PBA this this is the weekend to get your Husker out get your Husker red on get it activated and be in the building be in the built be in these buildings because they're This is a rare, wonderful time for Husker Athletics. With all the things going on around programs and around NIL and around Transfer Portal, that for two coaches who have had people look over their shoulders, you have to applaud now. Like, is that a fair statement that we need to celebrate Amy Williams and Fred Hoyberg for what they've done because
Starting point is 00:19:22 no matter how it finishes, nobody has gotten these programs to where they are current. Yeah, I mean, again, you know, and it does. To a degree, it doesn't matter how you finish, right? I mean, Danny Nees had some clubs in this, but that, I mean, that's how long it's been, right?
Starting point is 00:19:41 Since the early 90s in my lifetime that you could have. Has he been 11 and 0, 12 and 0? No, no, it's not been there. Right. Yeah, but I've finished, you know, did finish in the top 15. Nebraska is in the top 15 now. So I just want to make sure there's a little bit of praise
Starting point is 00:19:57 for those teams that have gotten it done before. But this is very rare right here for Fred Hoyberg for Nebraska basketball. It's like a dream. I mean, I haven't woken up from you. It seems to me. I've talked to folks around, and there's so many people who are so filled with trauma
Starting point is 00:20:12 about supporting Nebraska basketball. Listen, nobody said ignored the past. We're saying that in this very moment, if you're a Husker fan, you're a Husker Hoops fan, at this moment, in every attempt and effort, Nebraska basketball has been successful. And that's not a common thing. It is not that simple. It's not happening for the power programs.
Starting point is 00:20:41 It's not happening for Duke. It's not happening for Yukon. It's not happening. It's just not. I mean UCLA's got a pretty good basketball program that's not happening it's not easy to do
Starting point is 00:20:57 so celebrate circle the date on the calendar and then Sunday take yourselves out here find yourself into these buildings pack the building the vanity center should be packed it should be packed to the gills
Starting point is 00:21:12 go to huskers.com get your tickets If you don't have the cash, tune in tomorrow, and each show will have an opportunity to win a pair of tickets. Show up. And we're working because in 2026, I really would like that we have Husker basketball tickets to give away. Just to stay in the conversation.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Just to stay in the conversation. And for folks, there are a lot of folks that, you know, they get season tickets and they get season tickets, they can't go and they try to sell them. You can try to sell them, cool. But if you have the tickets, do you ever want to give them away? Call us.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Call us. So, we'll go to break. We're coming back. Bach, kind serve. Going to fix an I. Go fix it. It's going to fix it. Box is going to fix it.
Starting point is 00:22:09 I'm just going to ask question. Boxing. Get it all done. Box here and fix it. It'll be fixed today. Transfer portal, fixed. It's going to fix it. it. Bach is the commissioner.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Bach will get it done. We'll be right.
