Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to One-on-One with DP on 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com. We're bringing in RICO. Hello. From the text line, I'd like for you to read these other than the one doesn't deserve to be read. The mean one? I... It's not going to read it. We're not going to talk about it. Right.
Starting point is 00:00:44 The one at 1037. That one, okay. Yes. I just caught the tail end of that, so excuse me if I understand it out of context. But did someone just say that the product is better? What the hell? What's better about it? Frost and Hoyberg both have historically bad records this far into their tenure,
Starting point is 00:01:03 so I don't know what people are looking at, but the product isn't better. It may be the worst it's ever been. So to that, we ask, what is the thing that needs to be done? quickest, most directly, to change the location of these programs. There is no quick fix. There is you have to develop. You have to develop the talent in the room. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:32 You have to, I hate these coaches that say that blame it on the kids. Yeah. You get paid. High five. You get paid to coach these kids up. So no matter if it's the kid from Florida or. the kid from California, Dallas, wherever he comes from, Western Nebraska. You got to figure out that kid, and you got to figure out what is it going to take to get
Starting point is 00:01:56 him to get better in the four-year tenure that he's at Nebraska or any other institution as a coach. Do they have four years to get better? No, it got to get better this year. It's not, no, there's not a, there ain't not a, you got four years to be three and nine again. No, you got to get better this year. We have to see some, not, oh, we're three and nine again, and we only lost by one score for the nine games that we lost. We only lost by one score. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:02:29 That's not getting better. You have to get better. And getting better means winning games. Getting better means practicing harder. Getting better means making sure you embrace what you have to embrace. We can't control COVID. Now, because I'm going into the, if there's a COVID rule for us going to practice, we can't control that. But if you took COVID out of the picture, former players would be able to go.
Starting point is 00:02:51 But if we don't improve next year, then again, yeah, it's a problem. That's a huge problem. And to be clear, as I've said constantly, I hope to see former Huskers closer to the programs because you're good for the programs, right? that you folks actually care about the program because you're athletes, you'll care about the athletes.
Starting point is 00:03:24 You know the lifestyles. You know the distractions that can be in play. You guys can help remove those. You can give them another ear or hear another voice to it. But I think the idea that both of these programs
Starting point is 00:03:38 need a quick turnaround has to be paramount. Like it has to be pretty high on the list of things. things we talk about. Fred may not have until next year when he's got, you know, two stud athletes coming in. Scott may not have next year another year.
Starting point is 00:03:57 That's why you see changes, though. Right? So the list of things that you mentioned was practice, that practice, the way they practice, can improve a team pretty quickly. Like if you want to change the long-term level of a program, practice, how you practice is doing it, which is why I'm pushing, promoting, that you guys are allowed at practice because your eyes and ears and then your voice,
Starting point is 00:04:23 the fact that you can say what you see, will help calm the masses. Like you walk in here and tell me that, hey, it looks good. Come with me, come see it. I'll go bet. There's trust in that. There's trust in having you, J, Strig, et cetera, et cetera, tube it around the programs because you will speak truth to it and you will let us know because you
Starting point is 00:04:51 know more about that than we do whether we can exhale whether we can expect greater and then what to look for like going over what it looks like we'll see it in practice we'll see it in listen i've been around i've been going to practice for a long time okay yeah and and and and let me just tell you practice i've always came back with a mindset set of what was this I just saw. Yeah. Okay, so I'll know if we turn the corner based on practice. Well, we'll talk about it next on your show.
