You're listening to one-on-one with D.P.
Presented by Beatrice Bakery on 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
D.P. is struggling, getting his headphones off of the microphone. Do you need help?
You got it? Okay. He got it. We're fine. I can finally turn this mic on.
That was fantastic.
Pure chaos.
Good job. I turned the commercial thing off, so people saw that.
Oh, that's fantastic.
That's a professional, folks.
Man.
It happens like once a month.
And it's just like, okay, how did I?
The courts just, they find their own way and you're just like, I don't really understand what just happened.
Yeah, yeah.
So we have a tentative date for Rico's floor routine with the gymnastics team next Friday afternoon.
And Michaela will let us know whether that works or not.
I'm waiting for Ashley to let us know.
They're a shoot around when they're done.
She'll tell us.
and then Camman Bryce.
And then I kind of want you to hit against Courtney.
Well, okay.
See, the problem with the batting practice
and the hitting against Courtney is I can't.
I'm not like, like the gymnastics thing,
it'll be funny because it's like,
ah, he can't do this.
Obviously, he's not that athletic, whatever.
But like the baseball, like the swinging of the bat,
like it just doesn't look good.
Like some people that are,
athletic or used to be athletic.
When they try to do other things that they've never done before, it just looks completely
unathletic.
And that's me swinging a bat.
So, do you think?
Like, we went to, we went to debats and we did that.
And Nick, like, I was like, yeah, I mean, I feel weird doing this, but I feel like it
looks okay.
And then I saw Nick had recorded it.
And I was like, oh, that's, that cannot see the light of day.
Yeah, he didn't share that.
So that's when you know you have a real friend, because he, you know.
he didn't share it. It wasn't good. Yeah. So then my thinking might be that maybe we have Nick
trying to hit softball pitch. Yes. Yes, please. Right. Would that be? Nick, are you listening?
Right. We'll have Nick. Are you listening? Yeah. Yeah. I think we could do that. We want you to hit some
softballs. Courtney's going to pitch him. Yeah. I'm doing a floor routine. Apparently I'm going
one-on-one with Ashley. Like, you can hit a softball or a temperate.
to hit a softball.
Hitting slow pitch softball versus fast pitch is different.
Fast pitch is very hard.
Different universe.
Well, I know, but he can at least attempt it.
Sure.
Thank you.
We'll see what happens.
So if we get Courtney Wallace and she can...
Yeah, I can tell you what's going to happen.
I'm going to whiff.
Yeah.
It's so hard to see from that angle.
Different movement.
Yeah.
Very wild.
Would you be interested in diving?
No, no.
can't do heights and I can't dive okay can you swim yeah would you swim against somebody who
swims a mile no I would not know would you go bowling against the national champions yeah but I can't
put spin on the bowling well that's why you go and you learn you let them yeah I mean I would try it
right I would do baseball even though I'd get I'd get blown out but cam chick said I'm doing struck you
I'm doing the baseball.
Well, Rico.
I already told him that I, when we went and I was swinging it,
you didn't share the video and I appreciate it.
It was bad.
There was no lower body movement.
It felt.
And there was barely any upper body movement.
It was just all arms.
It felt wrong, but not terrible.
And then I saw the video and I was like, mm, hard pass.
Yeah.
Not great.
It was not good.
I feel like that.
I feel like, I feel like,
I feel like I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm waiting to be molded.
I feel like there's something there.
We can always go back.
Well, Ashley wants to play him one on one.
Okay.
I'm not, I'm not shooting it.
That's, you don't think so?
Like, we're going to take, look.
No, if I did, it's not going to go in.
That's good point.
Yeah.
Like, you know Russell Westbrook from earlier in the season?
Leave that man alone.
Rico.
That's me.
But I don't have the triple doubles.
Or any of the athletic.
millions of dollars or that or the fashion sense.
Leave that man alone.
Okay, so we do have some stuff that we can work.
Yeah, we'll figure something out.
Softball's bad idea.
Hard for me to get that angle down.
Especially fast pitch.
Mr. I love it.
It says, I want to see DP batting practice since he talked up his softball skill so much in his younger days.
We're talking 30 years ago, 20 years ago.
I think you can do it, Mr.
Bad back.
Bad knees.
If I picked up, if I picked up a.
If I picked up a baseball bat, my wife would drive, she would drop what she was doing and drive to wherever I was and snatch the bat out of my hand.
How dare you?
Well, I mean, because I tore the bicep and I tore it in two places.
And I have not swung a bat since I tore the bicep.
And I haven't thrown bat in practice.
I could see how that could be a problem.
And then that was before the spinal fuse and the torn meniscus.
Yeah, I could see how that would be a problem.
Yeah, I'm fully embracing my post-athletic career.
Like, I am a talker.
This is it.
I am, I am, my wife, Becky would, seriously, if somebody said we're going to have like a wiffleball competition in the parking lot, she would drive down here and just say, no, you're not.
Right?
Like, she's like, no, we're not going to do it.
The torn bicep surgery was so brutal.
that I'm not
that was the greatest amount of pain I've been in
other than the catheter that they botched
I don't even
no we're not even going to get into that
yeah they botched that that was the most painful thing
the torn bicep
was probably
yeah
yeah
nope
uh Josh says Rico
play Toby Keith I ain't as good as I want
was for DP. All, all facts.
Oh, oh, look.
Look, my wife would tell you I am half the man.
I used to be.
I have no shame.
Yeah, I have, I have zero shame when it comes to it.
I have expanded, I've spent my lifetime allotment of athletic endeavors.
Let's go to the Hondo Likin Hotline.
Big Slib, what's up?
What's going on, fellas?
How are we doing the day?
We're good.
What's happening?
I got a great fundraiser opportunity for, like, say, the girls' gymnastics team.
Okay.
So you get everybody together, let them do a performance, serve beer,
and then you call people out like the price is right.
That's our turn to show up and, you know, get a bill for it.
And you try to get some overweight deal with no balance on the beam.
Yeah.
I get that, that's perfect.
I think that as long as they could have medical waivers for injuries.
They're going to need them.
Yeah.
As long as they do that, that might be a good idea.
So I'll pitch that to Heather Brink and see whether she's in for it.
How about that?
Sounds good.
Have a good day, gentlemen.
Thank you, brother.
I'm also, I do have an idea.
And we were talking about the IP club and all that.
Rico, you ready for this?
Oh, goodness gracious.
You ready for this?
What are you going to put me through?
Oh, it's going to be one.
It's going to be something.
So we're going to do the VIP club, right?
Um, you know, bumper stickers, t-shirts, that's that whole thing.
Of course.
Um, we're going to do that.
But I came up with this idea.
last week and I texted Mark about it.
You ready?
I'm going to need you full attention and your opinion.
Ready?
Okay.
How about a show, a one-hour show, of super fans?
Go on.
Okay.
Somehow they have to qualify, right?
Maybe it's answering trivia, maybe it's, you know,
performing acts of kindness,
or other,
somehow maybe once a week,
we would have a super fan show
where some of these,
some of our most frequent texters and callers
could come in and panel
discussion.
So imagine...
I like the idea, but it could also go horribly.
Well, that's also the beauty of this.
Is it?
Well, here's the thing.
They will have to.
to sign waivers, no cursing.
Mm-hmm.
It's debate not arguing.
Mm-hmm.
No rumors.
No rumors.
It's just them giving opinion.
Okay.
Them basing it on opinion.
And what will happen is you'll have people who are fact-based,
people who just want to give you stats and that sort of stuff, right?
but then we would our biggest issue would be trying to figure out what how they would qualify
because somebody pitched and said okay it would just be sponsors you know so sort of the rick
haman kevin and mire kind of deal yeah joe davis Rick mire those folks but i also
think that having people qualify like they were
have to register for super fan status.
And then we would do a rotation of folks.
And then we would kind of say, okay, our big fan of the night of the week was this one.
And we'll turn those from individual shows into a kind of a competition, kind of an American
idol for sports fans.
Okay.
We're like a fan of the month.
Right.
And then we have a big competition to see and have people vote over who.
who's the best superfan,
smartest super fan?
Okay.
Who had the best takes?
Right.
Who had the worst takes?
Which would be its own.
Nobody's going to outtake me.
Right.
Got that covered.
Right?
So ponder that.
Okay.
Ponder a superfan show.
I'm interested.
And we'll have to come up with rules.
And we'll have to come up with how people are going to qualify.
like they're going to have to give a take that is so uniquely theirs
that nobody else could use it right and the thing that we can identify them with
I need you to give a take and somehow get me onto your side right because look right it's not
hard but it's going to take a little bit of work it's going to take because I can convince
myself of just about anything right so the question might be to have them give a take we
can give a topic and say argue pro and con that's see what people don't understand is that's the hard
part right is sometimes you agree with somebody but you decide to take the other side because
you you you don't want to have radio shows or or hours where it's just two people agreeing
with each other the entire time so sometimes even if you agree with something you're like all right
let's take the other side, let's play devil's advocate.
And I've done that enough times with Nick
where I'm like, you know what?
I think I might have a point here.
Right.
So I think...
And sometimes Nick can see when I actually start to like
to come around and then he'll be like,
okay, we should take a break.
See, this is where we're headed.
So we'll throw our to break here.
We'll close out one-on-one.
