Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the couple Chevrolet GMC Studios, here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery, on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com. Welcome to one-on-one Friday. A couple of things in play. You want to thank the folks from Beatrice Bakery for what they do and allow us to do in their name and with their product.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Rico, do you guys have a Beatrice Bakery gift package giveaway yesterday? We did. Do you remember who it was for? I gave it to my daycare. Well, not my daycare. My kid's daycare. For all the wonderful work that they've done. It means you gave it to us.
Starting point is 00:00:59 If you gave it to your daycare. Well, according to Ellie, this is my daycare. This is. Yes, I gave it to my daycare. Everybody go grab a cake. Yeah, okay. I gave it to the daycare that I take my children to, little Brooklyn. Fantastic.
Starting point is 00:01:11 They've done a great job through the pandemic and allowing us to continue to take our kids there and continue to work and not have to have Rachel or myself sit at home with the kids and miss work or try to work from home. So it's been wonderful. And they've done an amazing job. And they've helped Elliot learn how to use the big girl potty, which is a massive accomplishment. Very, very proud of that. And necessary. Extremely necessary. Good to know.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Let's bring in our guests. Not happy. I'm happy for him. I'm not happy he's leaving. But his journey has been interesting to me. And I wanted to take this hour on his last day here to say thank you for his, his work, his energy, his thoughtfulness, his want to, his want to know more. and his curiosity. It's bringing Big Scott.
Starting point is 00:02:13 What's happening? Well, I would like to do a little trivia game here for a chance to win my Vershan Jackson trading card that I will have Vijay sign when he gets here in an hour. It's a kind of a complicated question. It's a tricky question, so I didn't want to give people time. The man across from you set five personal bests during his track career at UNK.
Starting point is 00:02:35 I want to know three of them. I'm not going to tell you how to find them. If you know track, you know how to find a personal best. If we could get a caller in the next hour, is that how you feel? Three of Rico's five PBs from college. That's what we're doing? See, so I knew when I put this together that...
Starting point is 00:02:54 Why are you the way you are? This is... Like, I knew, and then here's the other thing. Nick's going to show up here in a bit. This is what I needed to have happened today, Mark. So literally this is just a ruse to get these folks in the room together. to carry this next hour. Why are you the way you are?
Starting point is 00:03:13 Well, Nick is now my mortal enemy. We've been running the bit for a week now. I don't even know my five. I don't even know my five. What five personal best did I, well, okay. I can think of two events. One of them I ran once, which I swear if somebody brings that one up,
Starting point is 00:03:29 that is not a personal best. That is, I ran it one time. I was very upset with my time. You ran one at Concordia. Indoor or outdoor? I think it was outdoor. What did I run in Concord? It was the 110, so it was outdoor.
Starting point is 00:03:47 I read the 110s? That's what the website that everyone knows, if you know track and field. When did I run the 110s? I never ran the 110s in college. My coach didn't let me. Okay, never mind. It's the 100. There you go.
Starting point is 00:04:02 I lied. But you definitely ran it in Concordia. I ran against Tyree Kill at Fort Hayes. Yeah? Mm-hmm. Did you lose? Yes. He ran a 10-5.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I think I read. ran a 10-9. Maybe an 11-flat. But he pulled up the last like 20 meters. He was very far ahead of everyone else. I think we have a competitor. This is spectacular. I don't like this.
Starting point is 00:04:28 I like it a lot. I don't like this at all. Chris. Bring a man. Hey, greetings from the Baldwin shop, man. Ethan, it's good to talk to you again. Good talking to you as well, Chris. I miss our morning chats about track and field.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Well, yeah, and you've been missing. some donut calls too coming in. Chris, don't do this. Okay, okay, guys. I'm going to guess. Now, as an old Carney stater, myself, I talk to Rico about this. Here it goes. Here goes my guesses.
Starting point is 00:05:05 I'm going to guess his personal best out at Carney was in the 100-meter dash. Now, being he's a sprinter, I'm going to go also with the 200 and but he said he did, I thought he ran the hurdles, but he said he didn't run the 110s in college. So I'm just going to guess the 60-meter hurdles on the indoor circuit. Oh, you were close, Chris, but those are not three of the five.
Starting point is 00:05:40 You got two correct, but the last one there was not right. So we're still looking for a winner on the Vershan Jackson card. Well, okay, Ethan. I'm going to have to give it to Rico for not running the 60s. Doggone it. Well, I did. Not one time, but I ran it unattached. Well, hey, Rico, we talked about this even before.
Starting point is 00:06:04 DJ, you'll get a kick out of this. He told me, Rico told me that his best time in the 100 meters was 10-7. And I said, well, my best time in the 100 was 10-7 also, but that was the 100-yard dash. You're right. So he was about 10 meters ahead of me in the sprint. So, hey, guys, great show. We're all listening up there and have a good morning. Thank you, brother.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Thank you. Thank you, brother. Look at Big Sky coming in, dropping bomb. I know. Setting the table. I would like to clarify real quick. I want the mark, not just the event. You want the mark?
Starting point is 00:06:43 I want the mark. I want them a deep dive. Yes, I need research to be done. Should I tell everybody that my name in college was not Enrique Alvarez-Clai? No, until my senior year? I found it by searching Enrique Alvarez-Clari track. So, yes, I got there searching your current name. Didn't add the second last name until my senior year.
Starting point is 00:07:00 It's true. On the Loper's website, it just says Enrique Alvarez. Very simple. Did you put in Enrique Alvarez poster boy? I'm mad that the picture they have up is from my junior year. Like they don't even have the good one. He looks like Alvin. Yeah, that was a violation.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Yeah, I hate it. Like it looks. My senior year picture was great. My sophomore and freshman year, my freshman year, my freshman year, my freshman year, I look like a, I look like a child. Mark, I look. Have you seen these pictures? Have you seen these pictures? It looks like, he looks like Alvin.
Starting point is 00:07:32 They picked my junior year where the dude made me look over my glasses. Like if you put an A, put him in a, like, an orange or a red sweater and put the letter A, you would just, dude made me look over. All the other times, he was like, yeah, take your glasses off. There's a glare. This time he goes, yeah, just tilt your head down. And I was just like, can I just take it? He's like, no, just keep him on. The young gentleman I brought in last night, his freshman year, you know he's got the nice, the nice fro.
Starting point is 00:07:56 His freshman year, they didn't tell him that it was picture day. And so he didn't do his hair in the morning. And so his hair was like lopsided. And they just, oh, there is. Maybe look over the glasses. You literally. The worst. Mark, can you post that, please?
Starting point is 00:08:11 Don't post it. Yes, please. No, Mark. He has to. Why? Why are you? Why are you the way you are? I'm going to walk out right now.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Big Sky, I'm leaving with you. Alvin! I'm leaving with Big Sky. I'm going to Iowa. Alvin has left the building. Alvin! That's kind of... Like, nobody's going to call him because nobody knows how to find this.
Starting point is 00:08:32 The real question is, for any Nebraskaans that currently live in Iowa, where do I go to get the good corn? Not Iowa. Not Iowa. Is there like maybe a plane that I can make... How far in... to Iowa is Waterloo. I'm deep, central, north central.
Starting point is 00:08:48 I was going to say you could just make a small little trek over to Omaha and try to get to like a farmer's market or something, but yeah, that's a long time. What are you going to be close to? So what is... Are you close to Iowa City? Yeah, I'm only an hour away from Iowa City. So you're not close. Not to hear.
Starting point is 00:09:04 See, you have that eastern, you have that east coast idea of close, and I have that Montana idea of close where the big city was four hours away, and that was a day drive. So, an hour is close and i would even say the twin cities which are three hours away are close that's real close so tell the listeners why waterloo i well i i you know i consulted my my girlfriend about places that she would be interested in and of the places that were on the table that was the closest
Starting point is 00:09:35 to her home and it was it just seemed like the best option for us so you're moving closer to her rather than the job itself? Well, I wanted to be in sports. Uh-huh. And so that gave me an opportunity to be in sports and to continue to... So how far is Waterloo away from her? From her right now? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I believe it's eight hours. And when does she graduate? May. It's a little bit of time. It's okay. It's a short trip. Yeah. It's a short journey.
Starting point is 00:10:06 It's more doable via car than by plane, which link into where, where she is right now was a day drive, so it wasn't really doable, because now you're taking off two extra days just to get there. You know, I got, I got access to the, to the 937 Twitter account. I could totally just delete this right now. I won't. Out of respect for Mark, but I could. Well, but if he, did you tag me in it?
Starting point is 00:10:29 No, you don't need to be tagged. You should tag me in it. It's unnecessary. You should tag me in it, and then, uh, we can go from there. Don't, just, just retweet it on your own. You don't need to be tagged. No, I just think, you know, tagging would be... I hate you guys so much.
Starting point is 00:10:44 My eye looks so lopsided because the glasses, like, split it. You're like, when you enlarge it? Do I be lazy eye? When you enlarge it? Why are you enlarging it? No, because... Why are you the way you are? Why is this a thing?
Starting point is 00:11:00 We need to do the TikTok thing where we all make it our profile picture. Yes, we all... Everybody from the ticket will look like. I'm going to leave this studio. I'm going to go get my work done scheduling stuff for the weekend and I'm leaving. Is this Rico's villain origin story? This is when Rico becomes the bad version. This is what he changes his name again.
Starting point is 00:11:24 I have control over this entire board. It's going to be the Arthur meme where it's just a clenched fist. Oh, just. All right. We got another caller. Should I just bring him over? Bring him in. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:11:35 I'm just going to bring him over, Mark. Let's bring him over. Hello, caller. What's your name? Hello? My name is Chris. Hi, Chris. What can we do for you today?
Starting point is 00:11:51 Uh-huh. I want to be on air. Okay. Oh, she didn't want to be on air? Okay, I'll send it back over. They have a question. Back to Mark. Back to Mark.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Oh, my goodness. This is spectacular. I'm sharing this now with Friend Devine. Why? Because this is amazing. It's unnecessary is what it is. This is amazing. You know, if you took the glasses off, I would look super cute.
Starting point is 00:12:13 So it's all right. At the end of the day, you know. knew who Prince was. Yeah, that's true. That's true. That's dumb, man. Wow, Big Sky came in and threw you immediately under the bus. First you're trying to get people to find my marks, which apparently nobody can find.
Starting point is 00:12:28 And now we've got a picture of me out on the interwebs. I'm just going to tell everyone right now, you can't find it on the Loper's website because they don't list all of them. And you can't find it on Athletic.com. Because you need a subscription. Which I hate. When did that change? That's so dumb.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Well, Montana, for their high school. marks that's the main service that they use there is there is a website just tell them the website it's Tifers that's uh that's it's an acronym oh we got another caller well I can't
Starting point is 00:12:56 you can't I'm gonna bring them over yeah just send them right over I'll bring them over hello caller what is your name Joe hi Joe hi Rico what's uh do you have an answer to the question or we do you have your own question oh well Joe
Starting point is 00:13:15 go ahead 100 meters 10.94 yeah 200 meters 22.7 yep and I'm going to go with the long jump of 22 11 and a quarter what's that in meters Joe 6.99 he's right he got he even nailed he nailed it both he did both on the long time that 100 meter is wrong and now I know your parents name that's right also that 100 meter is wrong well you ran a 1090 at one point I know that. It said it on the Loper's website, but too first does not list that. I ran a 10-8-3 at a home meet. I know that for a fact. Were you attached? Yes, I was. All right. Well, Joe still got it right. So we'll give him the prize once marks off the other line and we can get Joe your prize. So Joe, hang on to Mark. What leg of the relay did you run?
Starting point is 00:14:04 First. So you're right. I was, so I was, I was for sophomore, junior, I was first. senior, I switched between first and third. For most of the season, I was first, though, because I had the best block started out of everybody. What was your long jump best? 699.
Starting point is 00:14:27 You never went over 7? I hit that one time, and then in my final meet, I went 6.9.7 on my very last jump of my collegiate career, and I missed finals by 2 meters. Very sad. I'm looking. Because my dad's personal best in long jump, I think he went 7.0. Oh, big sky. Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:55 This is glorious. What's you looking at? I have hit the mother load. What are you looking at? This is, this is, they have all your pictures. This is just marvelous. This is just marvelous. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:15:10 This is so good. This is so good. What is going on? What is going on? Why? This is spectacular. That fresh for your photo is Chris. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:15:24 And then downhill from there. It's just hard downhill. Freshman is off for a good. Junior and senior are bad. What's the red shirt freshman picture? I don't know why they have a pose. This is your tender profile picture. No, look, it was on a stool.
Starting point is 00:15:40 That's tender profile. You act like we get to choose our own poses. That looks like Rico. They tell us what to do. This is Rico. I'm Rico. I love flowers and puppies. Do you love puppies?
Starting point is 00:15:53 Long walks on the beach? I don't like long walks on the beach. Okay. So text line. Can you not? This was supposed to be about Big Sky. This is his last day. But a tribute to his last day, we're going to honor what he has started.
Starting point is 00:16:08 So we're going to post these five pictures. And Mark, what we need to do, what we need to do is, what we need to do is have. have the listeners write Rico's tender profile to each picture. I'm about to cuss on the air. I'm not hitting the dump button. What we need to do is we just need to make a Tinder profile. So it looks exactly. Don't.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Don't. Oh, let's make a fake one. I am married. I am happily married. We'll get a Richard's permission. You're not going to get her permission. We'll change the name. You're not going to get her permission.
Starting point is 00:16:36 This is big guy. What name can we use for this fake profile? Mark, what do you think? Like what does. Alvin? What is this? Mark, why are you going along with this?
Starting point is 00:16:45 What is this guy's? Why are you the way you are? Like, what is, what is this? What is red shirt freshman RICO's? I'm about to do it. What is his name? Like, we create a new name. Like, but we can't use.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Ladies of the ticket, which, which RICO are you swiping on? We got five options. We really do. Like this is like Urkel. And Stephen, and then Stephen, the guy he becomes. when he becomes school. I thought it was Stefan. Well, Stefan.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Stefan. Stefan, which was so. We're about to go to an extended break. Freshman year, Stefan. Freshman year, Stefan. Why? Oh my God. Why?
Starting point is 00:17:33 Why? So I'm going to, I, wow. I am. This is idiotic. So, so going to do this. Okay, so. I apologize, Rika. I just wanted to get the, I just wanted to get the marks.
Starting point is 00:17:44 I didn't know about the pictures. You knew exactly what you were doing. I didn't know about the pictures. Okay. So you literally, and this is what's funny. I look good. I don't care what anybody says. I look good.
Starting point is 00:17:53 The red shirt junior picture. You act like we get to choose our own post. They put us on a stool and he goes, turn sideways. I was like, why? And he's like, turn sideways. We're taking the pictures. Just imagine that Rico, Rachel met redshirt junior Rico. She met freshman Rico.
Starting point is 00:18:10 And then ended up with senior year. Well, he's back to redshirt junior Rico. She met freshman Rico. She's been on a. journey with you. She has. It doesn't show there was a point there. I didn't take my picture with it. I just had a blonde stripe down the middle of my hair and I had the full afro. She is just you went on a this is a like this is a journey. I went through a lot of things in college. Right here. It shows. Doesn't every man go through a stage where they have a abnormally short haircut and it just
Starting point is 00:18:43 doesn't look good? I think we could develop a theory here. We're going to need to profile I was going to get my hair cut before my senior year one, and then I didn't. Like he went from, he went from a jock to the guy who runs the, the, the, the music, the, uh, movie reel in class. So whenever there, like the teacher needed. You say that. I was a captain of my last two years. No, when you, when the teacher needed. They trusted, they trusted redshirt junior, red shirt senior, right.
Starting point is 00:19:18 go to help keep the team and check. Well, what happened is he went, I went from, you know, the meme where it's, except it's going backwards. So you started out, you started out, you know, she calls me that too, to I'll have her home by 9 p.m.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Sir. Yeah, this is, this. Yeah, because I met her dad. So you are, you really went Benjamin Button. Where you started out and then I don't I don't know with the red, freshman New York couldn't grow anything but a mustache.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Do we? Are there measurable on Noriko? How much how tall was he? How much did he weigh? 5.5 the entire time. And I was 145 to 155.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Let's see. During. During traxe. Okay, that's not really, did you do football? No. Okay, I was going to say that's not football. Those aren't football size.
Starting point is 00:20:05 So they didn't, they didn't put. They don't put them. They don't put the numbers in there. They don't put, at least not for this one. 55, 145 to 155 through my entire college career. I have noticed that's an incredible.
Starting point is 00:20:18 incredibly unique thing for football and basketball to do that they put the heights in the weights. Because it's necessary. You don't need that for track. Is it necessary? For football and basketball, yeah, everybody loves the, it's the underwear Olympics, as Jay says. It's just, you know, everyone wants to know the numbers. Yeah. It's not necessary. You don't need the numbers in track and field. Because they're not necessary in any. Totally unnecessary. Joe says Rika ran the 400 meters too. Didn't think he had the stamina. Yep, 400 hurdles. I read it faster before college because I didn't run it at all in college until my senior year. I like how, tried to get me back into it.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I like how me, a former track manager at UNL, and Joe, who might not have done any sports in high school or college either, are coming at this man who still went and did college athletics. It's fine. Rika, we're actually impressed by you, and I wanted to give light to what you accomplished in your collegiate career. Doesn't seem like it. Everybody seems very rude.
Starting point is 00:21:09 That photographer from 2013 did me dirty. He's only angry that there was, he did not have the flowers. the tree back. You know what I'm really mad about, though? He took multiple pictures, and that's the one he chose. Like, this. Well, I want to know why the first picture, they just, like, chopped off your chin. It's so close.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Yeah, why'd they frame you so. It's so close. Head! It's all head. They chant, like, every single year, like, you notice how other colleges, like, it's the same pretty much picture. Yeah. Every single year. Like, they, they put you in, you know, whatever you're going to wear, and they have you pose the same way,
Starting point is 00:21:42 and they crop it the same way. For some reason, U and K's like, all right, only head. Turn sideways. More of your body. Whatever's happening here. No, but he did the thing where they moved, they totally looked to his left. And so his smile moved to the left. Dude, I look good.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Well, the photographer year one literally heard headshot and said bet. Only got head in that shot. He just brought a man. A headshot is like mid chest and up. Now they said headshot. Yeah, not that. Bang. That senior year, bro.
Starting point is 00:22:17 You need to have a little neck in there for a headshot. Like he went freshman year, he had no neck. To Red Shore Jr., he was all neck and peak hair. If we're ranking Ricoh's, I think Richard Junior's the best Rico. What do you mean by best? It's current Rico? Yeah, it looks the most like current Rico. That's kind of what we ended up with.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Like he was previewing what. You're welcome. future come, but the rest of it, redshirt freshman is just... Look, man. Yeah, sometimes when you go to college, you go on a journey of self-discovery. And what happened is my journey...
Starting point is 00:22:58 You lost yourself several times, did you? My journey went on many, many paths, many trails. There was a river somewhere in there. I think I fell into it. I would just like to agree with Rico, because if I had done a sport in college, my freshman year picture would be a drastic downgrade. Oh, my goodness, you know what this is?
Starting point is 00:23:15 this is from Napoleon Dynamite where the guy becomes a photographer and has the girl posing all that's missing is Rico with his with his fist under his chin honestly if he if he wanted to do me dirty I would have gladly pose like that I think you should have done the thinker pose
Starting point is 00:23:39 Rico I tried that once he said no oh man okay so I'm we're going to go to break We'll come back and talk to Big Sky. Yeah, how about we leave me out of it? No. Zero chance. Zero chance.
