You're listening to One-on-One with D.P.
Brought to you by Beatrice Bakery.
On 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back one-on-one.
It's getting crazy because in the break,
of course, we get corrected,
and I got a couple of taxes as well.
The NFL League minimum bounced up from,
first, it was 175, 150 to 175.
It is currently, from the new bargaining agreement,
the league minimum is $660,000.
That thing skyrocketed.
And next year, it's $700,000.
The following year, 2004,
795,000.
In 2025, the league minimum will be $840,000.
By the time we get to $29,000,
the league minimum will be $1 million for the worst players
in the NFF.
as a league minimum.
Can you imagine just being the last guy on the roster that never sees anything and you're making a million dollars?
I'm too.
I'm not even mad.
You're not even Mr. Irrelevant who gets a parade and all that stuff.
You're just a guy.
Right.
Like six.
Look, this year it was 610, it was 610,000 last year.
And then 660 this year.
Now, the league, the practice squad.
players. So if you're on an NFL roster as a practice squad player, you're making $9,200 a week.
So let's say $10,000 a week. You get that every week. I think I would still take that.
Yeah. I'm cool. I'm cool. I'm cool. I'm cool with that. And then, so let's say decat, right?
The decap was on the practice squad and then now he's on the active roster. So he will make
whatever one 17th of $660,000 a week for every week that he's on the active roster.
And then here comes the USFL.
And from my thinking, 50 players, let's say it's 50 players, just for round numbers,
50 players at $200,000 a season for those 14 weeks plus playoffs, whatever they decide to do.
If you're a player on the cusp, like somebody that's on the edge of making a team or being considered to make a team, what do you do?
What do you do?
Do you go take the practice squad 10,000 a week, which $170,000?
It's not bad.
Right?
Not bad.
Right.
But there's also the risk that you could be replaced in trading cut from that pretty quickly.
but there's also a chance that you get called up.
Or not.
I know.
Or not.
You got the good and the bad there.
Right.
And then here comes this league that's going to give you a chance to play,
actually play games, and rebrand yourself at somewhere between 200.
Now, I would imagine that quarterbacks in this league are going to make more than everybody else.
As they do.
So somewhere around a half million for quarterbacks, probably.
especially if you're a quarterback of renown.
You can move it.
All the games will be played in the same place, one stadium or several stadiums in the same city.
So I'm not sure that ticket sales are the thing or the issue because you've got, you know,
you've got teams from all over the country.
You've got eight teams from all over the country.
You're going to have people from those cities showing up for at least a game.
Right.
Like that's what I was wondering.
At the very least.
Right.
So, I mean, like the New Jersey generals, right?
Are those fans going to this city?
Oh, yeah, at least one time.
You're going to go.
They're reping your city.
I mean, you don't have to know any of the players.
You don't have to actually have any connection with the team,
considering that they're brand new.
But if it says your city on it, you want to see firsthand,
are they doing good for your city?
Are they putting on for your city?
This is, like, I'm just.
Like if they had a team in Omaha, I would try.
I wouldn't.
I probably wouldn't, but I would attempt to go to at least one game.
What a great text.
O.G. Les and Lancaster says, this league has MVP Adrian Martinez written all over it.
That is fantastic.
You know what?
That is such a fantastic text.
You know what?
It's a good joke.
It's a great joke, but I need you to stop.
That is such a, look, O.G. Les, give text, give Reconstic.
You're going to, look, we're going to give you some Beandres bakery for that.
No.
That is fantastic.
That is fantastic.
We love Adrian Martinez over here.
Well, no, but we do.
But think about it.
Would you, if you're Adrian Martinez, do you, are you striving to be USFL starter for the LA, for the New Jersey generals?
Are you looking to be practice squad for Pittsburgh and make 10,000 a week?
or do you think you can go through and win the backup job in Philly doing the Jalen Hertz 2.0 sort of business?
What do you do?
Look, man.
What do you do?
Don't nobody want to be able to practice squad in Pittsburgh.
No one else to be in Pittsburgh anyways.
Actually, you kind of do.
Have you been to Pittsburgh?
No.
Okay.
That's what, let me tell you.
But it looks cold and I don't like it.
It ain't that cold.
Let me tell you.
You know how Nebraska fans are about their football?
Yes.
Pittsburgh Steelers fans are them dudes.
That's who they are.
And if you are, look, if you are the last dude on the Pittsburgh Steelers,
you are in a great spot.
So I think.
I should get to be coached by Mike Tongan.
Look, the legends of Pittsburgh Steelers football and the nightlife in the city,
not a bad.
I would like to be coached by Mike Domlin.
Not a bad spot.
That's all I'm saying.
That's all I'm saying.
So it's going to get crazier before it gets calmer.
Again, when name image and likeness, then you've got a factor in what college students are going to have access to while they're here or at whatever university they're at.
And then you get to the place where recruiting of those players.
Because the USFL is not going to allow college players in.
you got you gotta be done with your eligibility
that was the thing that they put out originally
and that could change that could change in the next month
where they say
we're kind of open like we're kind of open for business
like the G well no because that would be high school never mind
like so collegiate juniors that declare for the NFL draft
would be available would be eligible for us
okay but you can't just like be a sophomore
transfer portal and be like, you know what?
I want to go to the U.S.S.
Yeah, they're not trying to get in that business.
Now, here's the other side of it.
Because now, there'll be free agents.
So once you're done, let's say you just, you have a,
what's the young Mr. Washington from a few years ago?
Hanging out wherever he's at.
What do you do with that?
So that's what that league is going through right now.
Like, what are we willing to put up with, with players?
Oh, that's right.
And then they also have to make the decision whether they're going to be a developmental
league, like the G League, or are they going to be a Star League?
Like a semi, like a semi pro.
Well, no, a pro team.
Think about if I'm the USFL, Antonio Brown's on the list.
Yeah.
Because that's going to, yeah, that's your butts and seats.
Right.
Because I'm still not sure how you get.
Eyes on television.
Yeah, how do you get, I mean, every game is.
is going to be televised.
Every game is televised.
So you need people to watch.
You need people to...
I'm not sure that they need people to attend.
Are you going to be a developmental league?
Are you going to be a second chance league?
That's the question.
That's the question.
Are you going to...
You can be a little bit of both, but that's...
That is a line that you're going to have to tow with extreme caution.
Because there's some people that, you know, you want to offer them a second chance, but...
Oh, no.
We can play the game now.
Cam Taylor Britt.
USFL, practice squad, active roster.
We're going to play this game?
Let's play this game.
I'm down to play this game.
Let's play it.
Practice squad.
Practice squad.
Cam Jurgens.
We were talking about this.
When the average is, with the average center in the league of 6-3-3-15.
And he's 2.80.
One, six foot?
Yeah.
Two-80.
Yeah.
What do you think?
I want to say he tests well enough for practice squad.
No.
If you were going the route that I think you're going, there's going to be very few active
rosters.
But I'm going to go USFL.
Let's go all in.
Adrian Martinez.
I hate you.
You know I love him.
Is he?
USFL practice squad.
He's got enough talent.
Active roster.
To be a practice squad guy.
And to be just right there to be considered.
And they're just every once in a while, they're like, you know, we could move him up.
But I don't know.
Just yet, it's USFL.
It's MVP.
I hate you, OGL.
I hate it here.
Let's keep playing the game.
Come on.
That's the beauty of it, right?
How dare you make me say bad things about Adrian?
Samara Turi.
Oh.
I think he's right in between practice squad and active roster.
Because I think he gets a chance on the active roster.
It depends on how that goes.
He might.
He's going to be in the NFL.
He's going to stay for a little bit,
but I don't know if it's going to be active roster practice squad.
But he'll be there.
Joe, Joe, gentlemen.
what is he going to play in the NFL?
In the USFL, he can do all the stuff.
He can do exactly what he did.
But in the NFL, what does he do?
He's the special teams guy.
If he commits to special teams and becomes the best special teams player he can be,
he could be active roster just special teams.
But if he wants to play defense,
practice USFL right in between there, what?
This is going to be in front.
problem. This is going to be amazing. This is going to be amazing.
He can be like a Pro Bowl special teams guy, but I don't know what he plays.
He's not big enough to be a linebacker.
And I don't know if he's fast enough to be a safety.
I'm just saying this thing is about to get crazy.
And I'm here for it.
I'm here for it.
We'll throw the break on 101. Again, we'll give away some Beatrice Bakery goodies.
We'll put it in care packets for somebody.
We'll do that coming up next.
And we'll also bring in three times national champion.
Let's bring them in, Bershawne Jackson.
We'll do that next on one-on-one.
