Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to One-on-One with D.P. Sponsored by Beatrice Bakery on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Welcome back to one-on-one, and yeah, I would think it would be pretty, I think whenever Mark Manning walks out into the room, he should have like a WWE theme song that plays for him. Something like that. He should have his own song. All superheroes do.
Starting point is 00:00:29 What song would he have? I think, I just think he needs, he needs the ultimate. Warriors theme song. I could see him with the face painted. And if there were ropes around the mat. Yeah. He's got a lot of energy.
Starting point is 00:00:47 I can see him just. Well, that's why I want to be Matt side because to see him and then I want to hear wrestling coaches have such a unique language and the verbiage is very detailed specific. Oh, yeah. So to be that close to it and to hear the communication,
Starting point is 00:01:04 that would be amazing. But Matt's out or not, I'll be at Devaney night to check out Huskers wrestling. Also, friends of the show, McKaley Curtis and Kenzie Robey, they're in, they're at Iowa State. Yep, Ames, Iowa. Yeah, so they're at Iowa State tonight, their first meet of the year. Good luck to them. Looking forward to the good news. I think Kenzie's doing the all-around.
Starting point is 00:01:31 That's a lot. You know, she's got her work cut out for her tonight. Huskers hoops, the boys, tomorrow, 1 o'clock. And it's a tough one. It's a tough one. There's no if, ands, but, savages. That's a tough one, right? But 1 o'clock at PBA.
Starting point is 00:01:51 And then the ladies Sunday at 1 o'clock against Iowa. So, and Iowa took a loss against Northwestern last night. Northwestern is tougher. than I they're 10 and 3 they're tough like there's some there's some battle on them
Starting point is 00:02:13 I'm gonna go through their games I'm gonna see who they beat I'll let you know if there's a big name in here yeah I mean it's a better like Iowa has they've got the nice post up of course Clark is one of the top five players in the country
Starting point is 00:02:25 she the whole team runs through them offensively and defensively runs through her she's a playmaker can shoot they posted the video of her before the game last night shooting from the logo shooting three from the logo and she made five consecutive from the logo just kind of in the step curry mode uh foot on the logo and she's just you know pop and feed and she's knocking them down bit of a playmaker uh nice off the handle um so the huskers will have uh they were ranked number 22 before last night's loss i don't think they'll be in the top
Starting point is 00:02:58 25 yeah that even even if they if slash when they don't beat nebraska i don't think they'll be in the top 25 anymore. Yeah. So Northwestern schedule, I, there's not really, they, they had a three game stretch of pretty good opponents, postponed or canceled, Oregon, Minnesota, Michigan State. Well, it shows there's no fear. So you put them on the schedule. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:20 So those got canceled, but they have, you know, they have close losses, 12 point loss to Pittsburgh and a 12, 11, 12 point loss to Texas A&M. Okay. Well, that's a good program. Yeah. A&M's a good program. 68, 77 earlier in the season. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:39 So there's depth of that. Sorry to hand me text line. I want to get to you guys to let you know that we, in fact, see you. I'm a youth wrestler, wrestling coach in Lincoln. Mark Mann, is a super good dude. Tim Newman used to be my coach when I was a kid. Good luck. Yeah, that's, I believe it's starting next week as well.
Starting point is 00:03:57 We will have some of the wrestling coaches and wrestlers, high school wrestlers coming in. and then just for the record, mark this down, talk to Mark Manning off the record. I think we can disclose starting next Wednesday. You have one every Wednesday night at 9 o'clock. Hopefully, off the record. He said he could,
Starting point is 00:04:15 he said he thinks he can make that happen. He can swing it. He's a very busy man. He's a busy dude and we don't want to take away from him. He's got to develop some people. They also need to be hurt. There's some great personalities on this wrestling squad, and Manning is just exceptional.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Oh, dude, Manning on a wrestling show once a week in the winter. Super good idea. Yep. That's the hope is that we can make it happen. Claytona John, I love when you get Manning on the radio. Love talking wrestling. Nobody else does it. Well, we're going to do it. We're going to do it. Taylor, what's up, man? What's up, Taylor? You are my entertainment while waiting line to get tested for COVID. This line isn't saying long. Fingers crossed for you, Taylor, Brettel, let's know how you doing. I want to make sure you're okay. You are not going through it alone.
Starting point is 00:04:57 A wrestler, somebody from the text line grew up wrestling, Ethan Studebaker. that we're talking about. D.P., thanks for talking wrestling today. Mark has built a great program. We're nationally top 10 every day, and we don't talk about them enough. Nope. We don't talk. In a tough sport, in a tough conference, in a tough area, this program is constantly in the top 10. Nebraska wrestling is in one of the hardest conferences in wrestling is top 10 every year. Nebraska volleyball is in one of the toughest conferences for volleyball is in the top 10 every year. and neither one of them get the credit that they deserve.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Yeah. Yeah. So I want to make sure that wrestling and Mark Manning get there. And Mark has some great stories. He told some great stories offline about things that you guys would want to know. So maybe in the future on his own show, we'll get him to disclose some details. Big Ten or ACC for wrestling? Big Ten.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Big Ten. Growing up in ACC country. Because I know you've got the Northeast. Growing up in the, well, but the Northeast more. than the entire ACC. Right, the entire ACC. Maryland Penn State, Penn State being over there. We're folks in the east that wrestle.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Pennsylvania has some pretty solid wrestling. I know like Virginia, Virginia Tech. They do well, but it's not to the same level. It's not at this level. Yeah, because I know when you want wrestlers, you go up to the Northeast. That's where you're getting your. Well, farm boys, you can go down to Texas and get them
Starting point is 00:06:27 and teach them to Russell because those, But the wrestlers in Texas become football players. Become offensive linemen. Yeah, well, middle linebackers. Yeah. All them are middle linebackers. Big dogs. Tiny Pig says, hey, hey, tiny pig.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Says, thanks for all you doing here. I used to turn the ticket off off and on throughout the day, depending on church program was on. I think it means which program was on. Which program was on? Thank you, kind, sir. You have put together. Ah, thank you, Rico. A lineup that makes it very hard to turn the channel.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Lincoln needed this. we are Lincoln's Sports Station. We hear. As Julius Randall said last year. We hear it like to bring you current Huskers, former Huskers, current coaches, former coaches, and to give the fan base a voice. Ideally, it's a voice for good.
Starting point is 00:07:18 When you need to bond together and say, we need a change, you can say that too. I just said how we say it is important, how we say it is ultimately important. So yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to find my way to Devaney. Before I give away an extra pass, are you interested? Is that?
Starting point is 00:07:35 I am, but I got a sick kid at home. Okay. So I understand. I did not want to assume. I would love to. I'll make it to another one. I did not want to assume, unfortunately. I did not want to assume.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I got you. I'll sit next to you. I'll sit next to you at another one. Okay. I'll look at the schedule. Yeah. Yeah. I just wanted to make sure.
Starting point is 00:07:54 See when Iowa comes to town. Yeah. Because that's going to be a knockdown, drag it out. Dan Pye says Mark Manning's intro exit song should be the new age outlaw and I'm not
Starting point is 00:08:06 opposed to that. Oh, you didn't know but I call somebody February 20th, Iowa comes to town. It's me, it's me, the D-O-D-W-G. I can see yeah, I could see
Starting point is 00:08:26 Manning having his own. Like I said, I think it would be pretty cool is to find out from the wrestlers what their, what their, what their songs would be? What their songs would be. Or just ask them all. Well, baseball gets a walk-up, right? They get a walk-up song. And I think wrestling, I think wrestlers deserve, like, when you walk, you know, something that sets to tone. That'd be really cool.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Yeah, we went. I want to ask them all what they think Coach Manning's song would be, because you're going to get some differing answers, and that's always fun. Yeah, it would be. And then to ask how many of them would be interested in going to UFC. Yeah. You know, because they're going to, like, the game is changed. Yeah, the game has changed. And, you know, they have to decide as Coach Manning said, yeah, you got to decide whether you want to get punched in the face.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Yeah, I don't want to get punched in the face. Whether you got you can punch in the face or not. So, yeah. Possibly kicked in the side of that. Yeah, like, you know, like, there are some wrestlers. There are some wrestlers. We figured out the other day, you know, Tyron. Woodley.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Wrestling is, wrestling is not the same as boxing. Nope. Fighting is not the same. You got to cover. So cover your chin there, fellow.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Don't expose it. Don't look, man. Never drop your hands. Always keep your hands up when you're fighting. Good. That's such a bad. Rule number one. It's just such a bad.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Like, just rule number one. Like, you literally dropped your hands up. You're a professional fight, right? You don't do that. You are. a professional fighter, you are not a professional boxer. There is a difference. There is a difference.
Starting point is 00:10:05 We'll throw it to break. We will close out one-on-one and hand it over to Vashon. Vashon's got a lineup for you. 1130 Hall of Famer Will Shields. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 93-7
