Starting point is 00:01:03 Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. From the text line, Thomasville, I asked the question, what's the hardest part to get a player to the next level? What is the hardest part? And we were talking about it off air, as a matter of fact. Talent, development, environment, psychology or simply then the five stars that you check
Starting point is 00:01:48 quickness, agility, toughness, like whatever those things are, levels of success where they were, like how they did against whoever they were playing against. And then how you think they would fit within your talent pool.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Yeah, so all of the above. Yeah. You know, all of the above, it's a lot of different things, you know, but I think one of the main things, I think what I think at times a player takes from, you know, from here, let's say, and takes off is belief,
Starting point is 00:02:21 self-belief. That belief that you're like, what you're working on is going to work on a match day, on a back-to-back days, on a tournament and a back-to-back tournaments. You know, sometimes they have these one-offs, like big wins, and then they kind of like, but then the average days becomes like, you know, kind of like that.
Starting point is 00:02:38 And then they lose to players that shouldn't, but then they, You know, every now and then they be players. They shouldn't either. So I think it's that self-belief that, well, first you have to have kind of all those things. You have to have the mental toughness. You have to have the work ethic. You have to have the level, the skills, you know, to at least belong there.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Now, what takes you to the next, I think it's a little bit of self-belief. And then that belief that it kind of like, hey, I can win when I'm not playing my best. You know, I feel like we have gotten at times players to get much better. once they start winning without playing their best. And I think that that's a lot of like a lot of developmental, a lot of talk, you know, among that's a lot of talks. There's like, hey, you can do this. Hey, when you can.
Starting point is 00:03:24 And once you believe that, hey, I don't have to wait for a perfect day. I don't have to wait for everything to go right, for me to win that. When you believe in that, when you believe that when you step on the court, you can almost beat anybody with whatever you have that day. And then once you start, I feel, in my opinion, once you start winning with your average game, I think then you can take off because then you learn how to win. You learn how to compete with what you have
Starting point is 00:03:48 because I mean in tennis is a very timing, very kind of high, kind of like a skill where if you wait for all the things to go right, you know, then a lot of things will go run more often because then you're always waiting for something that is hard.
Starting point is 00:04:04 You know, I mean, professional players talk about it. We talk about all the time. It's like you only have about, you know, five to, let's say five to ten perfect matches out of the year. And you might play 80, 90 matches. And five or ten, you feel unbelievable. Everything goes right. You know, it's easy to win on those. But then now, I think if you learn how to win with your average tennis, when you learn how to win when things don't go well, I feel like that's when you take off the most. Because then you're winning
Starting point is 00:04:32 matches when you're not your best. But then I think it helps your confidence to believe in yourself more that, hey, what I have today, it can be good enough too. But if you don't have that self-believe or that belief that you can do it, you know, it will be hard because I see players that have all the skills and they're, they have the work ethic too, but they might not have to believe. Then as soon as something that goes wrong, then they don't believe and they don't win. How you react to friction is, well, that's the definition of tough. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I mean, we talk one of our things right now is in this year for our team is, it's, It's two things. You know, it's like raising our floor, so making our average better. So we need to get comfortable playing winning matches or winning points or being competitive with our average tennis. Yeah. And then two is response, how we respond to what happens to us. Coach, it is always, it is always informative, sir. It is always, I appreciate you so much.
Starting point is 00:05:30 No, thank you. For coming in and answering the tough questions. And the next time Bob brings us some, we need to get them directly in front of coach. maybe let him take a swing or two down on the court. Absolutely. Let's get him into it. Hey, we'll make it happen. Thank you. Remando Magro women's tennis.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Well done. Kind sir. Don't go anywhere. The big guy is up next. I know that because the wall started to shake. Adam Caraker in the building. He'll take you to one o'clock. We're back in a black shirt through the afternoon here on 937, the ticket.
