A part of what we do on purpose is to give you access to some of the special people
Starting point is 00:01:15 who are part of this Husker athletic department and what they do in the programs that are there and to give you some access to how they live and really the things that they go through. I've always been a bit of a gymnastics fan, but here it's become family now because you get to watch people grow into greater versions of themselves. You understand the friction that applies to their life and how they get through. And then it's always impressive to me to watch people do things that I cannot do. And I've told her this often that I'm way more impressed by what she does away from the game, away from the sport, because that requires strength and that requires direction.
Starting point is 00:02:03 And God bless her a little heart because she has gone through it this season and she's shared access and she's let everybody know what's going on in the programs. Let's bring in Michaela Curtis of Huskers gymnastics and young lady. Thank you for making time on a Monday.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Of course. Let's get to the heart of it. You're packing. You're packing up. You're packing up. This is a pod and boxes day. First of all, how are the kittens handling all of the boxes and the unnesting that's going on? Because I'm pretty sure they've thrown like a tantrum or two. They've made it an obstacle,
Starting point is 00:02:47 like a little obstacle course, because they just, they're more alive at night than they are during the day, if I'm being honest. So we're just like sitting there on the couch and just zoom, they're just zooming back and forward. I wonder where they get that. not me but one of the most annoying things obviously cats love boxes but I cannot stand when I'm trying to pack a box
Starting point is 00:03:10 and I walk away for 2.5 seconds and one cat gets in the box that's literally their job yeah I know but then I tell them to stop and they don't stop you just got to make air holes in all your boxes just in case well they're the like so how it's going to be like it's nice
Starting point is 00:03:25 because I was explaining the DP 8 so I got a pod and all of my junk is going to go into the pod and then I think like what I'm aiming for which it's going to be hard for me because I like to forget stuff is it's just going to be me and the cats in the car yeah I got them this like little tent thing because at my new place I don't have a deck and they love to go outside on my deck that I have now because I'm on the second floor so I'll just open the door and they'll just go sit out there and which I don't know how they don't get hot because I have one cat who's like extremely fluffy and he just like lays in the sun
Starting point is 00:03:59 But I got this little tent thing, and I'm planning on just having them sit in there in the backseat. And well, because if they don't, I think they'll just cry. Planning. Yeah. You have cats that would live in a tent? Not live. Or travel in a tent. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Because if I put them in their cat carriers, you're just going to whine. Tent travel. It's the way to go. It's the way of the future. And they'll both be together. I thought of you this weekend because I saw online that there was somebody invented a cat catcher. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Is it the one that did this? It's like two screens and like a scissors thing that you just Yeah, I saw that. And my, like salad when you pick up salad. My first thought was I don't know what cat would stand still long enough
Starting point is 00:04:44 for that to happen. You'd have to move quickly. Well, I think I personally would think if it's like a little bit of a threat. Like it's coming out of these two blue things and then it just like surprises you. Well, they're just not expecting because cats think they're smarter than everything.
Starting point is 00:04:57 So they've one cat's kind of smart. She likes to play fetch. You said you like dogs? Yeah. She's a dog, but softer. Your cat plays fetch. She does. I actually have a video.
Starting point is 00:05:07 So we got her this ball. I don't believe you. So you're going to have to share the video. I'll have to share it. Okay. But it was so cute because, like, obviously, like, cat toys have, like, the little bell in it. And this one was, like, nothing special. I think I got it from Walmart for, like, 50, 90 cents, something like that, super cheap.
Starting point is 00:05:24 And from when we got her, so my boyfriend and I share her. if that kind of I guess Is your parenting? Yeah, well it was his Christmas present for me So I like paid for half of her He paid for half of her So we literally share her Yeah, that was my next
Starting point is 00:05:41 That was my question Wait It was his Christmas present to you No, mine to him Yours to him Yeah I made him like a cat person I don't think he was a cat person before me
Starting point is 00:05:52 But I think he felt bad So he was like I'm gonna go in half I mean it was only 50 bucks but I plus like I don't know if I should be saying this on the radio you're not actually allowed to like adopt for another person where you're moving so it's well she's she lives with me anyway yeah so you didn't adopt for other person custody she's in my name like she's technically mine she's a curtis but she's yes so but yeah so we got her like this little ball and one day she just came and grabbed it and then came onto the bed and just dropped it and I kind of looked at my boyfriend and I was like what is she doing And he, like, grabbed it and threw it. She chased it and brought it back.
Starting point is 00:06:31 And, like, that's her thing. And she does that with, um, cotton swabs, too. She loves cotton swabs. It's weird. Like, when I open, so, like, my couches, like, Velcroed, the cushions are Velcroed down. When I went to clean it, I kid you not 50, at least 50 of them. She's been stashing. Yep.
Starting point is 00:06:49 And you never once wondered where they all went? Well, she drops them. So, like, when she plays fetch, she, like, drops it down in front of you because she wants you to pick it up and throw it. it so when she brings you the cotton swab sometimes i think it just like fell through the corner or not the corner but the but did you ever wonder why you were having less and less cotton swabs no well she just steals them whenever she wants so like if i'm in the bathroom if i'm in the bathroom and i open up my drawer where it's at she like looks and she'll put her paw in there she knows where they're at she knows what she wants i need one of these real quick well if my boyfriend's using one
Starting point is 00:07:23 she'll sit there with her paws on his chest and she's like looking at it she wants it yeah Cadova guy says his cat plays catch two, so it's not. It's the cutest thing ever. I don't know. It melts my heart. But when you see her with it with the little ball in her mouth, it's the cutest thing. Nope. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:44 I'm not sure she's cats. Oh, yeah. Thanks. Just so you can see. So do it with your hair. Crovite says, do it with your hair tight. We had one that we shoot down the hall and she'd go get it and bring it back. Okay. So the cat that I got rid of,
Starting point is 00:07:58 because he peed everywhere, which was like super heartbreaking for me because he was my first cat. When I had him by himself, I would have a bowl of water. And when I would come back, it would be, my hair tie would be in the water. And so I would take it out, you know, I'd put it somewhere. And then I'd come back and I'd find it back in the water. That was his thing to put stuff in his water. It was mine. I ownership.
Starting point is 00:08:20 So whenever I. Was he paying before you got other cats? No. Okay. So, well, he was letting you know. Yeah. Well, I just thought... Dislike.
Starting point is 00:08:29 I don't know. Yeah, I mean, I felt bad because he was the first cat that I got the summer before my junior year, just because I was like, I need a cat. Like, I grew up with cats. I've always been a cat person, and I needed one. And my mom knew that I was going to get a cat, so it was no surprise to her. And he was super good, super cuddly. Like, I loved this cat.
Starting point is 00:08:55 But the only thing is when my boyfriend and I was. went and picked out cats. So we actually get our cats through PetSmart, which they come from humane societies and stuff like that. And when we were at PetSmart, they had like a bunch of them. So it was in Omaha. They had a bunch of them in their cages. And they let them out to play because I wanted to see like personalities.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Like that's how you choose them very much, which I'm assuming is how it is when you adopt adopt a dog. Absolutely. And so I was playing with this one orange cat. It was super cute, like super playful. And I was like, I really like this cat. And then there was just. just one little cat kind of in the corner, not doing anything.
Starting point is 00:09:30 He was just hiding. He was just staring. And my boyfriend's like, oh, he's kind of cute. And I was like, I've always wanted a gray cat. I shouldn't have gone with a gray cat if I knew he was going to pee everywhere. But we went with him, and then he ended up being probably the most expensive cat because there was always something wrong. Like when I tell you, I think he was allergic to chicken.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Poor guy. Yeah. So I had to get him, like, special vet food. And I could you not. I ended up paying $80 every time he needed food. it went fast. But it was, I mean, he was my, my baby for a while. So, okay, money bags.
Starting point is 00:10:06 I don't have money. But you got to feed him. You should think about these things before you buy the cat. I didn't know he was going to have problems. Did you ask them? They didn't know. They didn't know he was sick. They just thought that, so, I mean, they were.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Can you return a cat? You can, yeah. I mean, yeah, technically. Like, I could take it back to that cat. Sound upon. Yeah. Scan it. Well, I felt so bad.
Starting point is 00:10:32 It's on its eye. The barcode. Real quick. Yeah. It took me a lot to take him back on your card. Yeah. And how much? How many do you have now?
Starting point is 00:10:44 You have two now? Just two, yeah. So I had three. So the entire time you were here or two most of the time you were here? I had. So I had him for my junior through. So through the pandemic you had? Yeah, and then when pandemic started, and whenever, so my boyfriend lives in Omaha,
Starting point is 00:11:02 whenever I would just leave to go to Omaha, I would always feel bad. Whenever I would leave to go to Omaha, I would leave him, obviously, I couldn't bring him. And I would just hear him crying down the hallway. Get in here, you guys. Get over there. Okay, I'm coming here shy. You know, like, this is not, this is, we don't do shy around here. This is kind of the idea, this is what you want sports to be.
Starting point is 00:11:26 let's bring in. We've got two more ballers in the room. Cam, Chick-Laton, Badgerap. Gentlemen, what's up? Jack Stale? What happened with the wonderful mustache? See, I can't do that. I can't grow that.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Me neither. Thank you. That is wonderful. Seriously, how much time do you spend on? Jack, come on. Give me that. I don't spend much time on it, honestly. It's supposed to jump from in it.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Yeah, sometimes. Sometimes I died a little bit, but I haven't recently. gentlemen how you doing this morning great great yeah it's been a long year yeah but let me say this to you quickly thank you thank you because everybody wants exposure when it's good not everybody still shows up when it's not as good as you wanted to be and that's not accepting but that is a that is a trait of character and integrity that we need more of we need more of And I am grateful for the fact that you guys have shared your journey with us. This has been exceptional.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Very cool shirt, by the way. I have not seen that one. Rika, have you seen that shirt before? Nope. I need it, though. That is, is that team issue? Yeah, that's from last year. That is pretty freaking awesome.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Right? What is that? Okay, yeah, we're going to have to call Harvel. Harville, like, come on, man. How we feel this morning? Tired. Tired. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Can I ask you you guys the $64,000 question? Yeah. Let's hear it. Are you angry at the Big Ten? Uh. For as much what you can say and what you can't say. And I know you'll be as polite and considerate in your response. I wouldn't say like angry.
Starting point is 00:13:34 No. Just disappointed. Didn't get to see everything play out and see if we make it in and try to make a run next week. But that's life. It's baseball. We didn't take care of what we needed to early on in the season. It kind of came back to bite us in the butt. That is a pretty cool hat.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Wait a minute. What is going on? Yeah, we got this my freshman year for the one of the regionals. No. I've always wanted one of this. Can't find him anywhere. What is going on? I feel slighted now.
Starting point is 00:14:02 You should. I thought I was in. No, you were not. I thought I was a part of the family. So let me explain it. So I get nothing. Ms. Leotards over here is going to sign them and so we can put it.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I can start framing this stuff, you know, in my office. Nothing. Nothing. She's leaving tomorrow. Nothing. I'm leaving next week. Nothing so far. I had a bucket of baseballs
Starting point is 00:14:23 that we were going to give out to the listeners, right? So I'm like, hey, Cam, I need you to swing by and sign these. So what we're going to do today, No, I'm going to let them go. I'm going to let them go. Get the work done. But I wanted to say thank you to them on air for doing it.
Starting point is 00:14:41 And for listeners, we'll come up with a couple of trivia questions. I'll have Cam write something about himself. I'll have Jack write something about some trivia thing that real fans know. We'll ask those questions in the next segment. And for the first listeners who get those right, we'll give him a sign baseball from these two. we'll do that today and then Michaela you know we we need a we need a trivia question for you something about you that only people who really care would know and the first person the
Starting point is 00:15:15 answer is that we'll I've got your signed picture back there so we'll do that we could do that again I want to thank you guys all of you in the room what what sports radio is supposed to be is a place for access and amplification.
