You're listening to One-on-One with D.P.
Sponsored by Beatrice Bakery on 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Unfortunately, D.P. is not here, so we're not going to get into wrestling talk after that,
but we will say yab-dab-a-doo.
Because we still have no idea what's going on.
It was like Amadu.
I saw Pat McAfee get stunned.
Yeah, Pat McAfee.
Wrestled, did a pretty good job.
He was drinking some beer with Stone Cold, and then he got stunned and spewed his beer everywhere.
It was fantastic.
It's literally the only thing I, well, that night, I guess Vince McMahon kind of...
Fought Pat McAfee?
Getting stunned, too.
He'll just kind of let his legs go up for him.
It looked very painful, actually.
It did.
Different than the last time we saw that one, I suppose.
Vince McMahon still got it.
Kind of.
Like, the muscles aren't as defined or as large, but still there for how old he is.
He looks like Old Man Strong, right?
Like...
Old Man Strong is the weirdest kind of.
of strong because the muscles are there but there's also like some flab right right and you're like
are you strong but but yeah i mean definitely it's there's there's there's man boobs in a gut but also
muscles yeah which is which is fine you're just like i'm confused as to what is happening right now
but i'm also slightly interested right and i would never take you on an arm wrestling no no no no no
Because clearly you win.
Yeah.
Well, I'm just terrible at arm wrestling regardless, so.
Because your arms are short?
I'm just, I don't, I just not good at arm wrestling.
Like, even when I was, like, lifting a lot and I was what I would call pretty strong,
not a good arm wrestler.
Because you can't have leverage.
I guess.
So I have long arms for how short I am, but I guess I still have short arms.
You still have short arms.
Yeah.
Do you know what your wingspan is?
No, I do not.
I should figure that out.
You got big hands, too.
That helps.
I do.
I do.
palm a basketball though.
Well, you still have short man big hands.
Very sad.
Because I could grab rim.
And I could never get my wrist above it, but I could get about half of my hand above
the rim.
So I could dunk a tennis ball.
I dunk a volleyball once also.
But I could never dunk a basketball.
You've said that before.
And I always think like, that's just not the flex you think it is to say I can
dunk a tennis ball.
Well, the thing is, I'm 5'5.
So getting up to the rim is impressive.
Yeah.
Look, I can't do it.
I never had the hop.
Like I could get up there.
I can't do it.
I could grab it and I, you know, I had the tennis ball and I'd throw it in there, volleyball.
I'd get that in there.
The basketball, I couldn't go, I couldn't jump with the basketball in my hand because I'd
have to, like, have my hand under it and jumping like that was just weird.
Like, I just couldn't get up.
Yeah, I just couldn't get up that way.
So if you tossed the basketball up, I could, you know, grab it up there and then put it down.
But it wasn't like, it wasn't like impressive.
It was like, it would, like, hit the front of the rim and I'd, like,
like slide it into the rim.
And then I would just grab on it.
That's the important part.
Yeah, you just have to make it look cool afterwards.
All right, Rico.
I did something stupid.
Or smart.
I don't know yet.
Go with the first one.
So we'll start it this way.
We have a new show on Sundays.
Oh.
It's called Fitness Fanatics.
It's with Jeff and Nicole Essink from Farrell's Extreme Body Shaping.
I know them.
You do.
I did that for five days.
Five weeks. Five weeks. Five weeks. They have their ten-week extreme challenge, right?
And I thought it would be nice for them as part of their show to have somebody who's going through the challenge to give a testimonial eyewitness account of what it's like.
So either bravely or stupidly, I volunteered for the for the 10-week Feral's extreme body-shaping challenge.
Mark.
I need you to tell me what I'm in for.
Because you did half of a 10 week.
It's, look, it's fun.
You will feel sore and you might not want to keep going after the first week, but keep
the first week is rough.
Like, what they told me is the first week, you are getting dragged along, especially if
you haven't done anything for a while.
You're going to get dragged along the first week, but then as it progresses, as you get
more used to the movements.
and everything that they're going to be putting you through,
you're going to slowly start to catch up,
and then you're going to be, you know,
setting your own pace, pushing the pace at your own leisure,
and that's when you're like, all right, I got this, this is fun.
Then you're going to be pushing yourself to go, you know, harder
than you probably thought that you were going to before.
And that's, that is the really fun part.
But that first week is, it's going to be rough.
Do you, do you agree with that?
Did you, like, did you get to that point?
Yeah, I got to that point.
I got to that point.
at week three.
Okay.
I was catching up week two where I was like, you know, this isn't terrible.
This still, you know, after not doing anything, I'm like, this still sucks.
But this is fun.
And I'm enjoying myself.
And then week three, we were doing pushups and some ab work.
And I got this like, not cramp, but like this sore, like, you know, your core is working feeling.
And I was like, no, I got to keep going.
I got to keep going.
I kept pushing.
and I was like, you know, week one, if I got that feeling, I just lay there.
And I'd be like, ah, this hurts, this hurts.
And then I would, you know, do a couple more than, ah, this hurts.
But I pushed myself.
We were doing some push-ups.
We were doing the kickboxing.
And I'm like, punching harder, kicking harder, trying to go faster with my kicks.
You know, get my foot down, kicking real quick, trying to get all that.
And I'm, you know, I'm like, I'm going to kick this bag over.
I'm going to, I'm going to kick this bag over because one of the guys I was with.
He's much bigger than me.
Well, a lot of people are.
But he was a very large human being.
And he would kick the bag over every once in a while.
and he'd stop and pick it up.
And I was like, I want to kick the bag over.
So I'm, you know, working hard, you know, doing all that.
And it's a blast once you get into it.
Like in the sandlot where they hit a home run and everyone's like,
ah, what are you doing?
Is that kind of the same as kicking the bag over time and time again?
Like, ah, gosh, this is so annoying.
I keep kicking the bag over.
He was just like, every time he'd do it, he's like, ah.
Because he'd have to stop and he'd have to pick it up because there's sand in the bottom
so they're heavy, you know, got to pull it up.
There's a way to make it not happen.
and that's to not kick the bag.
He was just very strong.
Good for him.
It was just a very strong individual.
And I'm very happy for him.
But we did this thing.
We found out we were in the same class.
We're like, okay, the first week we're like, do not like look at each other and just be like, I'm going to do more than you.
I'm going to kick harder than you.
We're like, do not do that because both competitive.
And we're like, it's going to happen.
And after that first week, that second week, we started looking at each other.
And it was like, I got to do more.
I got to.
We had the bands.
You don't do bands.
You don't do bands, and it's just, you know, the different colors or different, you know, weights or different resistance.
And we'd look at each other and it's like, oh, you're using the green band?
Well, let me use a red one.
Or you're using a red one?
Let me use a blue one.
And we were just like, do not do that.
And then the second week we started doing that.
It was fun.
It was fun.
A little competition.
What time did you go?
I, when I actually went, I went at 8.30?
Because it was when I wasn't starting here until like 10 something.
Yeah.
So I'd go at like 8.30 and then we switched hours and had had a kid.
And I went at six for a week.
And in that week, I went three times.
And then I just didn't go back.
I think that's the part that I'm actually most nervous about.
Like, in terms of making myself do it, I signed up for the 5 a.m. one.
They've got 4 a.m., 5 a.m., 6 a.m.
I signed up for the 5 a.m.
It is early.
It is early.
Make sure you eat something.
Wake up a little earlier.
eat something.
Not a lot.
Eat something.
And then go.
Because if you do that on an empty stomach,
it will not feel good.
It's not going to feel good with fresh food in your stomach either.
That's why you wake up early.
And not a lot.
I ate a banana before I went.
That was fine.
Okay.
Okay.
I keep telling myself that since there will be an on-air component to this,
that will be the accountability that on it.
Because I don't want to show up on the show on Sunday.
Like, oh, yeah, I didn't go this week.
So I don't know.
I'm the same as I was last week.
Like that.
Just get perfect tennis.
They give you stickers.
Really?
Yeah, you get stickers.
You have a little sheet and little stickers for each day that you go.
You get a big sticker at the end of the week.
That is helpful.
So then I was trying to think.
I had perfect tense for five weeks.
And then?
Then I had three days.
And then I was done.
I was trying to think about what events are going to make this hard over that 10 weeks span.
What is happening in my life that's going to be difficult?
Because it's not just the showing up and working out.
It's supposed to be like lifestyle changes, right?
Especially for that 10 weeks.
It's not like life.
It's just like what you eat.
What you eat.
Yeah.
What you drink.
Yeah.
Well, for you.
Right?
Yeah.
So you have, look, first week, no cheat days.
Okay.
Second week they say you get a cheat day and it's.
It's Sunday, because it's a day you don't do any workouts.
Sunday, your cheat day, you know, whatever.
Don't, like, go crazy, but have, you know, something that you don't normally have.
But if you have, like, a beer, like, you'll be fine.
Like, during, like, during the week, if you have, like, a beer a day, like, you'll be fine.
So I was trying to think about what's happening in that two and a half months span.
They'll work harder.
There's Easter, which wouldn't normally be like a big, like plenty of food, but it's at my brother's house this year and I know he's got a stocked fridge.
So that might be difficult.
My birthday will be in this span.
You said, you just have to, the hardest one.
You don't have to like, you don't have to like completely fully change like everything.
like it would be, it would, if you want to see the biggest change.
Well, and.
Yes.
But if, if you want to, you know, have a day, like your birthday or something and you want to, you know, have your, have your beers.
But that's, it's a 10 weeks ban, right?
Like, I feel like I should go all in for 10 weeks.
Yeah.
I feel like I should.
I feel like I should.
Yeah.
And I don't even think the birthday is going to be the hardest part because it's, I'm not around other people.
Like, it's just me and my family and I can not have a beer with dinner.
That'll be fine.
The hardest one is going to be the Big Ten baseball tournament.
Because you know me.
Oh, that is.
Oh, no.
At the end of May.
End of May.
Part of that 10 weeks.
Oh, no.
That's four or five days, whatever it is.
Tailgating all day.
12 hours of baseball games every day.
You're in trouble.
Full cooler.
Is that like the end of the 10 weeks or is that like somewhere in the?
It's the last week in May.
So it's towards the end.
It's probably week seven or age or something like that.
Dang.
Well,
you don't have an answer for that one.
I don't.
I don't either.
You're going to have to ask Jeff and Nicole.
I'm just going to have to, like, I want to go.
I don't want to skip it.
All right.
That one's going to be hard.
That one's going to be hard.
You're okay.
Thanks.
I appreciate the note.
I got nothing for you.
Honestly, like I said, I made it through five weeks.
It felt great, though.
Good.
It was five weeks of great.
I was fitting into some of my older genes.
Looking forward to that.
And that was only after five weeks.
And honestly, I wasn't the eating portion of it.
I wasn't the greatest.
I tried.
I did my best.
I still wasn't great at it.
But I did change some things.
I was eating some new things.
I was watching what I ate.
I was looking at the nutrition facts on things.
And I was doing pretty good.
But then there were times where I was like, I just,
yeah, yeah.
I really want to people.
pizza. I'm trying to focus on that stuff, you know, not go in with negatives, not think about
all the bad things and now it's going to be hard, trying to focus on things like clothes fitting
better, or if we go to Colorado at some point in summer, being able to do hikes without dying,
you know, things like that. Like, I always do those things, but I die. I'd rather not die.
There's a surprising amount of things you haven't ever tried.
Pretty good. As part of the challenge? Yeah. Oh, no, well, like, some of the foods,
but also like some of like the workouts. Yeah, yeah. Pretty, pretty cool. Never thought about kickboxing
before did that and I was like this is fun this is awesome yeah they were talking you get your own
gloves too so yeah I'm I'm down for hand wraps I'm down for hitting stuff oh yeah take out your anger
on things yeah I've got plenty of it yeah see it'd be good good all right kick things we'll keep an open
mind we'll keep it positive I believe in you more thank you you'd be great appreciate it you're gonna
appreciate it you're gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna look even better yeah even better thank you
with that we'll head to our final break
