Sartagnarhamian text on Honda-Lincoln Hotline.
You're getting, you know, we don't think, Axelina.
That's just, you can go follow her on social media.
you can go on the Huskerrub's website, track and field.
There's some bio information on there.
Hoke Sweet.
And it really is the middle of nowhere.
Like we were talking before, you know, trying to figure, you know,
trying to get her calm enough to come and do this because she's,
there's a little bit of insecurity, a little bit of fear.
You spoke to how afraid she was on the ride over.
Well, she was telling me she's done radio, but never in English before.
Right.
So, right.
So she asked for, and I never give people a list of questions.
Sure.
Like, my thing is, I want to have conversations.
And I don't want to do that.
And she asked what we're going to talk about.
And I said, you.
I'm like, you know you better than anything else you know.
So that's all I want to know about it.
And she was nervous.
Then, you know, she's like, do I need to glam up?
And I was like, no, it's radio.
And then in the car.
You didn't tell her about all the video cameras around the studio.
Well, she saw the video.
So she's seen the videos.
So she follows.
on social media so she knows what it is that we do but then it's well that doesn't mean that i can do it
in her mind and i'm like i mean if if we can do it like i try to explain to her like you know uh
you're a rock star like you're a world-class star so yeah you're going to be just fine and so it
listen from when you do the research in hoke sweden h okay
H-O-K and Emmy, it's literally in.
Like, there's nothing around it.
Like you can, but I saw a Google mapped it.
Right.
I saw a brook nearby.
Right. Right.
Uh, something they called a cafe, but I don't think it's what you and I think of as a cafe.
No, it's like two rooms.
Yeah, yeah.
It's like two rooms in a, in like a log cabin.
Right.
And I was like, I mean, I'm from Panama, Nebraska.
I can't, I can't make fun of it too much.
Right.
But, but, but yeah, it was like, yeah, she said there's 90.
people in the city like that's just right when my town is three times bigger than yours is okay okay
i get it i get my street is bigger your building has more yeah yeah right right right where you go that i mean
and then to think about the that journey that somebody's willing to leave home like i'm like my moving here
was a big deal from texas sure sure it's a big deal yeah culture shock right well imagine this young lady who was
still a young lady who has to give up and leave everything familiar to come here.
Next time she's on, I'll have to ask her whether she had been here before she committed.
Like I would imagine that she didn't, like in a pandemic, she didn't visit.
Oh, yeah, I'm sure you're right.
Right?
So to think about that, right, that she makes, this is a life change,
a monumental portion to come to Lincoln, Nebraska and leave a.
everything. Now mind you, it's only 90 people, but she's leaving everything. And when you
Google it, what comes up, there's a log cabin that you can rent for $68 a night.
I'm in. Right? Oh, I'm in. Right. In the middle of nowhere, there's like streams and you've got to go
fishing. You would imagine. It's like there's no, there's no restaurants, there's no stores,
so you're going to have to do it yourself. Sure. All that food that you were mentioning earlier
in the day. All the stuff, right? Like, you're going to have to get used to that.
Yeah, you're going to have to do that.
And then to say that her workouts, I mean, she's a shot putter.
So of all the power sports, that's one.
And that she's number four in the country.
And her, you know, number two, all-time performer.
Like nobody's ever thrown the putt in the shot longer than further than she has.
Her Husker bio says that she has the second.
longest throw for any Swedish
woman over the last 10 years?
Ever. I mean, yeah.
Yeah. That's crazy.
I thought it was interesting that she mentioned Justin
St. Clair, the throes coach there, because
that was the name that Kalin Meyer mentioned
too when she made the switch from volleyball
back to track. He must be
a dude. He's a dude.
And again, you're finding out
more in the story, recruiting
stories. Like, I find
all these student athletes that are recruiting stories.
fascinating. And this one's the one that the one that Nebraska kind of backed into the best throw
on the team. Sure. And then, but now the the the men and women of Nebraska track and field
who throw have their own identity and there is they're moving up to the top echelon in the
country of throwers, whether it's javelin, discus, or the shot. It's a thing like people are
becoming aware and familiar of how good Nebraska is at the throw events and track and field.
So it's going to be fun to track it.
There's some interesting athletes on the track and field team.
There's some sprinters and hurdlers that we need to get to.
And we will.
Again, that's been my commitment is that slowly, surely,
by next September, I want all the shows,
all the programs to have a show where they can come in and be known.
Yeah.
And the more they're known, the more interesting they've become.
And the more likely folks are to support them.
Now all we need is an outdoor track.
that they can host events at.
You're a silly man.
I know,
I know,
you're a silly man
that they would have
for all the resources and money
that you would have that.
I just,
I feel bad for them.
Because it's a whole,
I mean,
it's tough enough after pandemic.
Sure.
And then to not,
you can't have any home meets.
None.
Yeah.
Like your people can't come see you.
Yeah.
And you don't get the payoff
for all the work.
Yeah.
And again,
I saw her video
of her working out.
I felt ashamed of myself.
Look, man.
245 on the bench.
Do you know how long I'd be in the hospital?
Because that bar came down on you?
Right.
Like, just shred.
It would just take the peck right off the bone.
Yeah, I know how much I'm struggling with the resistance bands at Farrells right now.
Like, it's just like I don't want to talk workout with her.
No, but right.
Like you go, okay, and I saw her on the squats.
and then, you know, on the snatches,
and she's just throwing this weight around.
And then to see her actually, actually compete,
she's quick.
Oh, yeah.
She's quick.
I mean, for her to get it moving with it.
I mean, again, it's eight and a half.
The shot is eight and a half, eight point eight ounces.
Eight pounds, eight ounces.
And to watch it come off her hand,
which is the thing that when you identify throw sports,
a thing that Nebraska does differently.
Hand placement, hand stability, wrist involvement, shoulder.
There's a, there's a fluidity that's required to transition from shoulder down to
to hand and fingertips and watch her do it and then watch her low body where her footwork is
impacable.
Like for someone who sounds like she's fairly new to that technique,
Yeah.
It's explosive.
Like, it's explosive.
So she's super interesting.
And again, you come from Sweden and...
By my count, one of 13 international women's track athletes right now on the roster.
There's a ton.
And it's a movement.
But my thing is, as she explains it, that they're providing, they're provided everything that they need, which is great.
And they feel, and she, you know, she said, you know, there are times when, you know,
You know, there are things that I miss and people that I miss.
But she's number four in the country and is not satisfied with being number four in the country.
Let me just let's just focus in on that for a minute in the difference in what happens versus what's accepted.
Sure, sure.
That this freshman, now mind you, she's 21 years old, but she's a freshman, comes in to Nebraska with options.
gets to work, has the number two throw in history,
is number four in the country,
and is not satisfied.
She was fairly dismissive of the idea of being best in the NCAA.
She's like, I'm supposed to be the NCAA champion.
Right.
Why would I stop there?
I'm supposed to be.
Imagine that.
Like, those words aren't said easily.
They aren't spoken easily.
And it requires a lot of gumption just to be able to say,
you know what, I need to get back to word.
because I need to be best of the world.
Best in the world.
That's some Jordan Burroughs talk we're talking about.
I'm not the owner.
She can't do it.
I'm betting on her.
I'm now betting on her.
Because that's what that sounds like.
So, yeah, bravo, Nebraska track and field.
Bravo.
Nebraska athletics, well done to become.
I mean, we met the two young ladies from gymnastics who were from Italy,
the first two, the first international gymnastic competitors in gymnastics in America.
Like we don't talk about it enough.
They don't talk about it enough.
But those two young ladies will come back next year and they'll be around this station
because we made a point that we're going to have them around.
You find out with like Norrie that they're international football players.
And we know with international basketball that's a thing,
both men's and women's, the relationship with Australia national national
basketball and them providing players and giving access, you know, men's players from all
of the world.
I mean, Kese is here.
Eduardo Andre was here.
Thor was here.
Nebraska is offering something that's very, very unique and attractive to international
athletes.
Like, that's incredible.
And as much as we give Nebraska Athletic the blues about the things that people say matter
the most, I
could tell you that the things that
they do right, I want to highlight.
Like, we don't make the dudes.
We don't get to determine what the outcomes of games
are and results.
So we have to talk about whatever they
put up to display.
But there are good things in the Nebraska
Athletic Department. That young lady's
one of them. And
they've got throwers, male throwers
in this thing. They've got hurdlers. They've got
high jumpers. They've got folks
in the program that are worthy
of this conversation and I'm glad that we get to have them.
So we will have more from her soon.
I'm curious to see who she tabs as her partner.
Yeah, that's going to be, and it's funny,
we've talked to several folks, right,
who are interested in doing this sort of thing
because now with the student athletes and the parents
and the athletic department itself,
they know what it is that we're doing here.
Like before, there's a lot of question and doubt.
like oh you know
disclosure
no no no no no no
what we want to do is be an ally
and allowing fans to know
the people who wear the colors
like that's what we want to do
like here
here is a national and a worldwide
star sitting under the awning
of the University of Nebraska athletics
that we don't talk to
she said she hasn't done interviews in English
Yeah, right.
Imagine that freedom.
Like, hopefully she now feels better about her ability to do this sort of thing
and not going to be afraid of a microphone.
We won't keep putting her in front of the microphone because she's got lots to say,
whether she knows it or not.
She's got tons to say.
And that's kind of the thing.
Also a thing, I know we have parents of Husker athletes who are listening.
Get them to us.
get them to me
get them to me
get them to me
get them to mark
like
understand
they deserve to be heard
they deserve to be known
they deserve the spotlight
you guys can help us do that
reach out
look if your son or daughter
or niece or nephew
or a part of an athletic program
that wants you know
that
you know once exposure
deserves exposure
there are programs
that like
we still haven't
tackled. I mean, Kobe Webster's coming on. He's going to have his girlfriend who played soccer
here. But there are people in the soccer program who deserve, that have the personality types
and the ability to put it together that we want to highlight. Same for men and women's
track. Same for wrestling. Wrestling, I think we have our two, but I'm not sure. So until we have them,
have them. Are they going to have to fight Coach Manning for the microphone? Yes, they are. Yeah, I thought
maybe. Yes, they are. As a matter of fact, that was part of the discussion.
If having a coach of Manning show, we should just have a wrestling show and let Manning run
his guys in and out of there. Same for men's gymnastics, Chuck Chomalka, if you're listening.
If friends of Chuck Chumalker are listening, we're still waiting for Chuck. We're waiting
for Chuck. Softball's right around the corner. I want to let them finish the great run that
they're on before we jump into that pool. But, you know, as does, as, as,
John Squire calls in to give us some insight and access.
All the programs, we will have a women's basketball show next year.
We absolutely will.
We absolutely going to.
That's just going to happen.
Three volleyball shows, three football shows, three basketball shows.
And we'll do that so that Mark and I don't have to stay here until 11 o'clock every night.
Oh, I don't know about Mark and I.
It's you.
I'm in bed by like 930.
Yeah, I'm working on that.
I'm working on that.
You and I do need to talk.
I think the last segment would be a good chance to do it.
Talk about what we're going to do with the weeknights over the next few months.
Okay.
So we'll have that discussion in public.
Yeah, we'll have it in public so our listeners know what's going on.
We'll do that when we come back.
Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch.
