Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to One-on-One with D.P. Brought you by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul. On 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. See, I miss doing one-on-one because all of my wrestling intros, promos were in one-on-one. And I don't get to use them in the rest of the afternoon. I don't get to use them in the afternoon. So all my wrestling stuff is sitting here in one-on-one.
Starting point is 00:00:26 I got to do better. Plus, we're going to, we have actually a wrestling show now on Sundays. Yeah. You're so childish. It is amazing. It's so childish. But it is what it is. Crystal Elliott, bowling,
Starting point is 00:00:40 All-American is with us. So this is a big question. Are you wrestling, pro wrestling fan? No. See, it's okay. It's okay. And the only thing I know, and I don't even know if this is relevant,
Starting point is 00:00:55 is the John Cena you can't see me. Yeah. See, that's a step. That's a safe. That's literally all I'm. That's all right. That's fair enough. Carter, you? No, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:01:06 See, see, see. Never happened. Even when I was a kid, I just never got into it. No, it's just funny. My next-door neighbor was a pro wrestler, so I kind of had to be around it. Lots of parties. That's all I can tell you. You have an event coming up Saturday that you want to tell folks about.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Yes. If you would, please. It is the, I believe it's Bebe. or more as possible rally. Okay. And it is for women's induction for Title IX. And so at this rally, you will see each and every women's sport represented. And there will be little activities for everyone.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Starts at about 10.30 and there's a softball game for anyone that's interested at 1230 right after the event. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This is a softball game. Right after the event. Are the Husker athletes going to play softball? Oh, yes, they are. Well, actually, no, I'm kidding. Maybe the Husker sawball.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Yeah, I was going to say, that would be kind of dangerous. I don't know. I'd make it very entertaining. Okay. Well, then so are you saying you're going to participate? Oh, no. Not with them. They're professional.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Get out there and run around. Have at it. It's not going to be that bad. We played kickball, and I feel like I'm dislocated my finger. Yeah, I saw the pictures. And I kept expecting. like the next thing you hear is like a siren. Well, like now, I know I broke my pinky before,
Starting point is 00:02:38 but like my pinky turned purple and I went, oh my gosh. And that's your bowling here. Season starts in two weeks. And I like had a moment. I was like, what am I going to do? So what did they do? Oh, our trainer like pulled it back and you could hear the pop and everything. And that was terrible.
Starting point is 00:02:57 It's worse than getting your IT bands. That's what happened to mine. That's why it has pins and screws in it. You can see where they did the damage. Yeah, I broke it once in high school playing soccer in all three of my joints. But other than that. Wait, wait, wait. That's a story.
Starting point is 00:03:12 How do you break your pinky playing soccer? Well, I was a goalie. And normally a goalie in soccer is taller than me and I'm 5'5. So, yeah, I went to go get the ball and we were doing exercises. And thank God my adrenaline was running because. I did not, like, really think anything of it. I was like, man, I just really cramped it up. But I couldn't even get my glove off.
Starting point is 00:03:37 So I had to cut off my glove after. Like, I had to drive home in my goalie gloves and then cut it off. That would be awesome. Being pulled over by a cop when you've got golly gloves on. He walks up to the side of the car and just goes, ma'am, are you okay? You got something you want to tell us to have in a moment? Maybe a little bit. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:59 All right. All right. So where is this event? And what time again? It is at the baseball and softball fields and it is at 1030. And kids of all ages can come. You get a little passport, get to meet some of the athletes. See, Cardin?
Starting point is 00:04:14 It'll be a great time. You're invited. You're all invited. Fair enough. Fair enough. Long journey to get here, lots of obstacles to overcome. You're here. But in order for that to happen,
Starting point is 00:04:30 you have to choose this place over everything else. Is it more the place or the people? Oh, yes. It's not supposed to be easy. That I really don't know because what Nebraska offers to the student athletes is unreal. Like you, especially like training table, I hear people from other like universities coming, like other Big Ten universities. and they look at me because I'm one of the, like, people that's, like, kind of paving the way to, like,
Starting point is 00:05:08 normalize, like, going to our dietitians and saying, hey, like, I'm not really sure, like, what's going on, but, like, I feel like this has been going on, so I'm stress eating or I'm not eating enough, and they, like, help you. So, like, I've kind of been that person, so they've really been able to, like, introduce me to these Big Ten people that work in, like, other Big Ten training tables and stuff. and they're like you don't realize what you have like it is nowhere near like what you have and I'm like wow like you gotta be joking and like I believe it was like Georgia or Clemson it was somewhere and they had came here to like see our dietitian staff and our nutrition staff and I was just so happened talking to my dietitian Sammy and Sammy is like oh so this is one of our bowlers and they're like I just want to let you know that you have it so good here, our athletes would die to have this.
Starting point is 00:06:04 And I'm like, oh, I know, I'm taking full advantage of everything that I can learn here and just eat. Did you, I know we talked about it before, but I was supposed to hook you up with the fitness fanatics here.
Starting point is 00:06:21 What time, because they do, their morning workout is like 6 o'clock in the morning, I think. It's early, early. But it's kickboxing and that sort of stuff. Our starts at 6 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:06:30 30 so well we'll have to find a way to get you with Jeff and Nicole um because that's what they do mark the station boss here he's been doing it for six months seven months maybe and it's lost 70 pounds wow 70 pounds and it looks like a brand new person along the way good for him but through through a lot of what you mentioned is all of the mental stuff and the stress eating the the esteem issues, the comfort one, being able to say no to professionals, saying no to nutritionists, saying no to coaches who suggest, you know what, can you be faster, smaller, bigger, taller, like all the stuff was like, wait a minute, you're doing too much, let me be me. How do you deal with that?
Starting point is 00:07:18 What's the line for you and why have you gotten so involved and committed in being there for other people? I think wow I I think just it goes back to wanting to be a better person like this was my commitment to myself and so that part
Starting point is 00:07:37 so you just and you said it a couple of times better person yes the internal person or the person people see it's more for the internal now now especially with like working with dietitian staff like it's more internal because I became that person. I started stress eating and then there would become times where like normally when I bowl,
Starting point is 00:08:00 I snack and I wouldn't, I wasn't even snacking and I'm someone who drinks like the like 16 ounce water bottles or 36 cateries and I drink like six or seven of those a day. So I'm a very hydrated person as well. And I'd bowl and I'd maybe drink one and a half over a period of the day. And so like we started eventually seeing that there was something wrong. So then I was like, you know what? Like, I want to be better. Like, this is how I'm going to be better for myself.
Starting point is 00:08:30 And just because my actions are showing, it's almost, or I should say it is kind of paving the way. Like, I'm mowing the grass so someone else can say like, whoa, like, this is a way. And because I know, especially with working with Sammy, it was a little awkward at first because I was like, ooh, I don't want to talk to someone about my eating. But now, since I've gone. gotten so deep into it and now so I I've gotten a lot more knowledge on like the food realm of things and how your plate should look that I'm like wow like it has nothing to do like
Starting point is 00:09:05 they're not there to judge you they're not there for like everyone has their own personal struggles but they're there to help you understand hey you're an athlete you need to at least be consuming a thousand calories a day just to lay in bed now you're at practice you go workout you go do this, you go do this. And so, especially this year, our season just started on Saturday. So I'm like, okay, what do I need to eat before workouts? Because I'm not that person that eats before workouts. Well, I asked you that before and you didn't have answers.
Starting point is 00:09:36 That's why I was curious. I never ate before workouts just because I was like, oh, I'm going to throw up, whatever. But now I, like, I go grocery shopping with Sammy because she helps me get a breakfast before workouts. Or I should say a snack before workouts. Then they have to see me three times at training. table now, which is kind of nice. And you have to check in, right? Yeah. Like, people know who I am and they report to Sammy and stuff, which I'm kind of grateful for it, though, but at the same time, I'm like, it makes you show up. It makes you show up. And I've really enjoyed it. Like, I did not think that I would
Starting point is 00:10:09 enjoy breakfast as much as I do. So what are you doing now? So what's the snack? Well, because of my no sugar challenge that I'm doing for my addiction class. That was the next question because you told me all about it. You told me about it, so I'm going to ask you about it. So at the moment, because normally you do carbs and a lot of carbs have a little bit of sugar in them. And so I'm trying to avoid that. So I normally do like two or three pieces of cheese, which is not necessarily ideal. But for the time being, just because I am doing this.
Starting point is 00:10:45 challenge it's an improvised snack okay okay and what does sammy say about that sammy's not i mean sammy's like okay here you can improvise but it's only for four more weeks so it's not like i'm gonna do this for the rest of time like soon i'm gonna have to have like a granola bar because i can't have granola bars at the moment because of the sugar so there aren't sugar free i have been looking at high v you have not done me great
Starting point is 00:11:11 hmm i'm sure there is maybe i'm just not looking hard enough. I'm also a very picky eater. So if I look at the label and I'm like, ooh, that's not. Look advertising. Well, but you don't look at the menu all the time. Oh, I get chicken tendies and that is it.
Starting point is 00:11:29 That's it. That's like, I can actually see that, though. I can actually see that. Okay, so breakfast. What's in your mind, what's the right breakfast for you? Before or after a workout? After. After?
Starting point is 00:11:45 Oh, get some nice sausage in there, get some eggs. I always try and do a little bit more protein just because I know throughout the day I'm going to be very active. And like I find that if I eat more protein, I'm full for a longer period of time. I try to get a little bit of fruit in there. And I have learned that drinking apple juice can substitute if you don't want to eat fruit because necessarily I don't always want to eat it. So I've learned. I've definitely learned a lot more fruit that I like as well. So I'll take that.
Starting point is 00:12:17 What do you go-to fruits? Frozen blueberries. Okay. And strawberries. Everything else blend that. I'm not going to eat that. But you'll blend in a drink. Oh, yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Okay. All right. And then on a given day in season, how many balls do you throw? On a given day. So, well, practice or tournament? practice practice um well today actually today is like a rare occasion but i maybe through maybe a hundred shots okay maybe okay um but if we're bowling a tournament you have five games so 10 frames every time let's say you strike for a majority of the time i mean you're still
Starting point is 00:13:07 throwing over 70 shots and that's not including warm ups and no that's just just for one day. That's like day two of bowling. So like if you go for bakers, I mean, it's a little bit, I should say it probably evens out, but I throw a few more shots just because I do have the 10th frame. So I get two more shots per game than everyone else, which also can hurt or benefit the stats. That's how you do it. It's up to you. You control that, Ms. Elliott. That's how that, that's how that works. All right, well, toward the break. We'll come up. We'll close out. one-on-one with Crystal Elliott.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to One-on-One with DP on 937 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
