You're listening to One-on-One with D.P.
Brought you by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Let's bring her back to one-on-one.
We're going to thank the folks from Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul,
for taking care of us on a day-to-day week-to-week, month-to-month basis.
Greatly appreciated Gary Michaels, Clothe-Ears,
who are making this Big Ten football media days to happen.
Ben Blikers, Professional Realty Group as well,
for what they do will allow us to,
to come bring you this sort of coverage, this sort of access.
And again, the big thing that you find out is that teams are who they are.
There's a reason why success happens.
It's purposeful to be aware, to pay attention to things like of what they were just saying.
4024-6-4-5-6-85.
Sarder-Haman text on Honda-Bligan Hotline and the Sartner-Haman live video stream,
Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter up on the board now.
you know, Purdue's up there.
Jeff Brom and his crew.
He's up on the big stage,
giving an insight and information.
Again, everybody's in the building.
We saw the Buckeyes roll through.
I believe Wisconsin is here as well.
So we'll have a full day of chasing stories.
Another Illinois is in the building.
Chris Brown stopped by a little bit.
We'll try to get him to sit down.
Not Chris Brown.
One of the two Brown brothers.
And we'll try to get them
to sit down and have a little bit of a conversation with us.
It was Cindy Brown.
Make sure we get that done.
And then Chase Brown, they're running back.
We'll also try to get them in as well.
Sean Clifford, we're going to effort that one when the Knitlin lines roll through as well.
So lots in play.
Everybody made it in town.
The weather didn't affect anybody.
Some folks adjusted came a little bit earlier than they had planned to beat the weather and do what they do.
But yeah, everybody's here.
We'll have a fun afternoon.
We will be here live until about one Lincoln time,
and then we will try to find our way to the airport and try to get us done done.
We're Sean and Jay Foreman holding court with the guys from Illinois,
hugs and Power 5s, you know, as Versaunt does.
He finds his way, and we try to get everybody in play.
Question from the text line.
Did they take Nebraska to deep water?
Oh, okay.
He says when you didn't get a first down the entire second half,
I think Nebraska just dumped into the deep end for you.
Lucky.
There's no luck in football.
There just isn't.
They're in everything, everything or nothing given.
Like that's how this works, and we can be clear in that.
You can be envious of other people's results from the work that they put in.
But the reality is Michigan State won the game.
Nebraska didn't.
And if you're Nebraska, listen, whatever happened wasn't good enough, and that's the end result.
Everything else is recreational, intramural thinking.
The reality is this.
You have the opportunity to get better, learn from your lessons.
When they meet up again this year, they have a different opportunity.
You want a different result.
This is the results business.
This isn't the emotional business.
This isn't how you feel about it.
Three and nine is over.
You're now zero and zero,
and you have every opportunity to get right,
get better, and redirect.
But the thinking that somebody got lucky against you
is not going to help you get better and beat them.
That's not how it works.
It's not how it works.
As a player or coach,
listen, I don't care about luck aspect of it.
It's my job to do everything that I can
to make sure that luck doesn't come into a play.
It's like UFC fighting.
Don't put it in the hand of the judges,
handle your business yourself.
You have the opportunity, you have the skills,
you have the access, the resources.
It's time to get it in.
No more excuses.
No more excuses.
That's how you get into the situation that you're in.
Stop making excuses and find a way.
There are waymakers and they're excuse makers.
Don't be that.
Don't do that.
This fan base deserves better.
You do.
You deserve better.
Like stop making excuses for how things don't happen.
You have every access, every resource,
all the talent that is required.
You have the best fan support in the entire Big Ten conference, maybe in the nation.
Stop making excuses for people not being successful.
That's a guaranteed way for it not to improve.
Football, X's and O's Jimmy and Joe's.
There's a way.
We found it.
Michigan State told you there's a way to go from not being good to being 11 and 2.
There's a way.
There's a way.
Michigan figured out a way to get better and good enough to beat Ohio.
State for the first time in a long time.
Right? Simplicity.
Simplicity.
No, the next time you play Michigan State,
look, don't get even, get right.
No, don't get, whoever you cross past,
there should be, there are nine teams that,
quite frankly, you should have circle.
Simple. Whether you play them this year or not, if I got to wait
till next year, guess what, I'm waiting for them.
I'm waiting for them. I'm getting ready. I am
waiting for them. That's how.
That's how this should work.
But that's just me.
And again, I'm not going to tell the fan base how they think about it, how you feel about it.
But I am going to be in team, listen, let's get it right.
Let's get it right.
There is a way to win games in the Big Ten conference.
There's a way.
Teams have figured out how to be consistently good in the Big Ten conference.
Do that.
I mean, as a fan base, isn't that what you want?
Isn't that what you want?
I don't think I'm talking outside of school and saying that, listen,
this fan base deserves better than nine losses.
That's not jumping off the edge.
That's not doing anything ridiculous.
But to say that you're good and satisfied with nine losses?
No, bro.
No.
No.
No.
I mean, that's the thing of being here and watching coaches have private conversations or off-air conversations about what their teams are doing, what they have in play, hearing the players and their passion for what's going on and the work they're putting in.
Look, there's an arrogance and a confidence when you know you've put in the work.
We want that, right?
You want your players to walk around, chest out, wearing the end.
proudly being able to say, listen, we got you, fan base, we got you.
We've done, we, we, we heard you.
We, we feel how you feel.
So now we're going to do everything that we can to better ourselves,
support the coaching staff, be there for the fan base and themselves.
All of those things.
You have the opportunity.
And that's why you're here.
You want to be able to see and hear the work that the other folks that you're going to
compete against or do it. And yeah, none of it matters if Nebraska's done the work.
If Nebraska's done the work, it doesn't matter what everybody else thinks. It doesn't matter
about deep water. Nebraska needs to figure out their deep water. And as a matter of fact,
that would be the question I would ask you. What is the Huskers deep water? I'll ask that.
Tell me, what is the thing that they do better? What is the thing that this team will do better
than everybody else in the big tech incompetent what will Nebraska do that makes everybody else react
and respond to Nebraska is it offense is it defense is it passing game is it coaching IQ is it
passion is it you know 12th man what is it I'll ask you that go ahead and feel text me text
text text text me that and let me know what you think that is right Michigan states got their
their deep walk what is Nebraska's deep walk right
I mean, Chef Bob says it's got to play from the beginning to the end and win.
Yeah, and everything in between.
So I'll ask the question.
You guys feel free to chime in and let me know what you think it is.
But what is Nebraska's deep water?
What is the thing that they do that everybody else in the Big Ten conference is going to react to?
And the fact that they do so well that nobody can defend it or stop it.
What is that thing?
I am curious.
I'm absolutely curious.
I'm open to your ideas.
I'm opening to your thoughts.
Please tell me.
Like, is it running game, right?
Is it the running game?
Remember, everybody set this stuff in advance.
Right?
Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, these are all things on purpose.
It doesn't just happen because you want it to happen.
You have to put things in play and purposefully scheme to have this stuff happen.
So, Texas says, well, we don't know yet.
facts, but I'll ask you what you think it is.
You know, Todd says, Todd says this.
Nobody knows what our thing is, and that's the problem.
I sure hope we have a thing to you.
Right?
Right.
And Todd thinks we're going to be, the Huskers are going to be seven and five.
Nathan says we do not know yet.
This team is yet to establish an identity.
Absolutely.
And Nathan, we need your pick for this, what's your prediction for the season.
What do you think the record's going to be?
Let's get you on record.
Craig says it's nothing.
It's nothing.
Craig thinks this team is going to be five and seven.
And this is why, again, this is why we had you guys chime in with what you think the record is going to be.
Downtown Scott says this.
It needs to be energy.
Relentlessness, killer instinct, Garrett Nelson, personified.
Like, I get that, right?
Downtown, Scott, tell us what you think the record is going to be this season.
We want to track this stuff.
This is why in your profiles on the text line, we asked you to put what you think the prediction will be.
Why?
because it'll tell us where you are, what the temperature in the room is,
if the fan base feels like this is going to be a successful team or if they have questions.
And I'll say it again, I'll say it continually.
If you want to evaluate a program and where it is, the more questions you have about it,
the greater issue.
The things you know versus the things you're not sure about.
And if the fan base tells me that, look, we know that, look, we're going to have a running game,
we're going to have a passing game.
We believe in the quarterback.
We believe in QB1.
We believe in left tackle.
We know who receiver 1 is going to be.
We know who's going to tote the leather the most.
Those are things that are in place, right?
And so I'll ask that question.
Again, this is why we're here to find out these things, right?
These things.
Crowbates has 11 and 1.
He says nine wins in a few games we beat ourselves.
What we knew about what we knew, and I'll say that in past tense,
what we knew about the program was that they had difficulty closing.
in close games.
Nine times.
Nine times.
Now, what have you fixed?
What has been fixed, adjusted,
improved to move the nine
from the loss column to the wind column?
What has been done?
It's important to know, right?
Right?
Somebody says, our thing
hasn't always would be the things.
Having a ton of people turn northwestern stadium red,
not many have that,
which would help with motivation.
but here's the thing.
As much as we love this fan base, this fan base can't win games.
Look, look, right?
We know that.
We know that.
You can help.
You can help demand and cheer and ask for a greater thing, right?
You can ask for that.
You should ask for that.
There's simplicity in that.
Scott says 10 and 2, right?
Nathan says VJ has me drinking the Kool-A, 9 and 3.
Again, what's going to be the thing that flips the nine?
The whole mission of this thing is to get rid of that nine.
So how are you going to do it?
Did you improve the passing game?
Some people will say yes, through coaching, through passing coordinator,
through a new offensive coordinator, through a quarterback that you went and got,
quarterback one and quarterback two that you went and got.
New receivers, different types of receivers in space.
Special teams coach.
Did you get better?
what's going to be the thing?
You guys are on fire today.
I appreciate this.
This is a good stop.
Nolan says 8 and 4.
DP, can you get me in the head?
Yep, we got you, bro.
We got you.
We got you.
Unnamed text, sir.
We need to get your 10 and 2.
Give us your name so we can put you in the system.
Tim from Sue Falls.
What do you think?
He says, I think it simply comes down to special teams and the offense too.
Stop putting the defense in terrible positions continually throughout the game.
game. If you can fix that, the team should win nine plus games. All of that is true. All of
it's true. But what did you do? What did you do to change that and make sure that happens?
Right? Right? Unnamed Texas says this. The most frustrating part of being an Nebraska fan right now is
knowing that we can easily be four and eight and at the same time, 10 to 2. That is a testimony.
That is an absolute testimony and that is the temperature in the water that I think most in the
Raska fans are honest, they will tell you that this team could be eight and four or just as easy as they could be four and eight.
And you wouldn't be surprised by either one.
You would not be surprised by either one.
And that's the thing.
That's the thing.
Go Blue says five and seven.
Okay.
Tater?
Hart.
Yeah, ma'am.
Heart.
Tater, you're right.
Tater, you're right.
Tater, why do we not have your prediction?
That is impossible.
You're a VIP.
How in the world do we not have your prediction?
Do better, Tater.
Come on.
Do better.
Do better.
We're going to throw the break more from Big Ten Football Media Days.
