He's okay.
Yeah, make sure.
Shafers.
Oh, poor guy.
Yeah.
I love, I love baseball.
I'm not, I'm not, like, I love baseball.
I love football.
I love basketball.
I'm not as knowledgeable in baseball as I probably should be.
But I do love it.
I'm, yeah, I'm old.
So in a more concentrated time, there's a lot.
So back east, so you had the Cape Cod League,
which a lot of people would just drive up and go play.
And the rule was, if you were Max Anderson was playing.
Yeah, you can go up there and get in a league.
And so they had a black college.
They said we were all-stars, but I wasn't an all-star.
Yes, you were.
Don't cut yourself short.
You just weren't at the same.
I wasn't at the level of the people that I was traveling with and the people that you were playing with.
So imagine, so being in Arlington, Virginia, the Pittsburgh Pirates Singe was the Alexandria Dukes.
And they wore pirates uniforms and the whole thing.
So back in those days, if you could play, if you played in the Industrial League or you played in college,
they would bring you in for workouts just to have people to practice against and scrimmage against that sort of stuff.
And back then, I mean, it's, you know, fans like Bobby Bonnejo.
Barry Bonds.
But the travel team in those days,
we would go, it was a 16th city tour.
And it was mainly mid-Atlantic.
But it's Mike Devereaux, O'Do B. McDowell, Toy Cook,
toy cook who played for the Saints and played for the Panthers in the NFL.
But he was in All-America at Stanford.
And Ken Dixon, Kenny Howell from the Dodgers.
We actually called him Nugee.
But these players, like I wasn't in the universe that they were in.
From a talent standpoint, you know.
No, that makes sense.
Like it was different.
And this was baby bonds, right?
So this is arrogant, smuggy Barry Bonds because Bobby's his dad.
Oh, and by the way, he can go.
Like he can really go.
Like faster than you.
Like O'Don B. McDowell was fast, so fast that he was scary.
but Bonds was so fast that he didn't look fast.
Like he didn't work at being fast.
Like he just moved.
Yep, he just moved.
Mike Devereaux could fly.
Mike Devereaux could fly.
But Devereaux was country boy strong.
Like Devereaux would hit the ball farther than Bonds did.
It's one of the best types of strong to be.
Right.
Well, because it was just natural.
He would just go.
You don't have to lift weights.
You're just strong.
Yeah.
I mean, those guys, so you would play in these tours and these circuits.
And then you get to meet the players and you go, wow, this is, you know, this is different.
Like the difference between a guy who can play Division I baseball and a guy who's really good at Division 1 baseball.
You're barely in the same universe and species.
People don't realize that's a thing.
Like, you can be like a Division 1 athlete, but then there's people who are really good at being a Division 1.
We had a dude.
So Bill Wyckoff was like a thing.
catcher and Bill Wyckoff was drafted
in the fifth round by the Red Sox.
And then we had Chippy Garland. Chippy Garland
was 6'5 kid
from Richmond, Virginia. And Chippy
was drafted by the Red Sox. And Chippy
threw, he was
Louis Tiont after Tiont. Like he would
throw from four different angles
and throw four different pitches. And then
oh, by the way, he could pump you at
93 back in the day. Right?
And you go, okay, this is crazy.
This is crazy. This is crazy.
but you would go to places
and I look
Division 1 baseball
you would think was the best baseball
but we would do our tour
and we would go down and we'd play so we'd go
we'd play Richmond Old Dominion Virginia
Tech Virginia then we would go down to
Carolina we would play NC State
we wouldn't play Duke but we would
play
we would go down and play like
Asheville Greensboro then you go to
South Carolina you play Clemson
South Carolina and then you go to
Spartansburg University of South Carolina Sparsburg
and then you go to these little places
we went down to Florida and you think okay we're going to play Florida State
we're going to play Miami no you're going to play Miami you're going to play
Dade County and let me tell you
Dade County had the dudes who could really ball who just didn't like going to
class and them dudes look we we actually
we would actually win games against the big schools
and then go these little podunk places
and get hammered
People are like, why are you losing to them?
What are you doing?
Because those are the dudes who, look, when everybody else was at class,
they were in the batting cage.
Like, they didn't care nothing about the academic.
But then you'd get them in these tours and you'd realize,
oh my goodness gracious.
Like, I thought I could run until you run next to Mike Devereaux,
Ode Bing, Bigdow, and Barry Bond's and you go,
no, I really can't run.
It's always fun when you think you can do something and then you face somebody who can actually do.
Who can actually do that?
Like, I could run, but these dudes can run.
like my I mean my brother was an Olympian right so I thought I could run until you run next to your brother
yeah and you go nope that's the whole look I'm fast for a non-olympian for a not like for a non-all
American I'm really fast yeah so you learn that stuff along the way and then you become a fan of like
in my closet right now I have an uh alexandria duke's single a jersey I have a prince William
canons that uh Albert pool holes played uh, uh, for
for when he was when he was coming up through the organization um i had a cow rip in rochester
red wings jersey wow back in the day um i had there's a time where i had the bray like i had
the braves triple a jersey um but those days are gone i still like i think i kept one or two
but i am currently now in my fully in my negro league's phase when comes to jerseys and that sort of
stuff and anything homestead grays uh baltimore black socks philly stars uh you know the homestead grays
as as its original phase uh any of the jacky stuff any of the that that's the stuff that i want
to learn more about the negro leagues i really want to go down to the negro league museum in kansas
city yeah just drive down there just drive down what are you waiting for well i don't know
me and Rachel talk about taking a trip at some point
Kansas City we're definitely going to go there
Take the trip Nick have you gone to the Negro League Museum
Yeah
So I'm actually going down to Kansas City this weekend with a couple of buddies we're going there
Yeah it it's this is the thing right
I mean it those jerseys
Man yeah I I I I'm a fair
I'm a jersey guy though so no matter what sport
Like I've got a Dr. J. Virginia
Squires jersey
ABA
Virginia Squires
You're old
old jerseys
Oh
Like an old
UCLA
Alcindor
Oh
Big Lou
Right
Like to go back
And do
People
That's always a fun
question to ask people
Is
You know
I don't remember
He was the number one pick
Yeah
Oh yeah
It's it's
You know
Whatever draft class
Who was the number one
Pick
And they get it wrong
And they go
Cream of
at your bar and you go nope nope nope it was our cinder i have speaking of powder blue
georgetown used to wear the power blue i could see that georgetown has powder blue uh
uing matter of fact i believe in the championship game against doris kentana they wore the powder
blue would they have because no they were gray they wore the gray but they had the powder
blue because the gray is um i'm i've got a line bias because i like serious i like serious
I got LIMBiase, Maryland.
That's a good one.
I've got the yellow.
He's setting up the ping pong balls for you guys for tomorrow.
You good?
And it's going to take him.
Just Mark had to go and get.
Get something to hold it or something.
Yeah, dude.
Put it against the wall.
Yeah.
No, put it against the wall so it doesn't turn.
That'll work too.
There you go.
There you go.
Science major.
Work smarter, not harder.
Yeah.
So he's got to fill out a lot of ping pong ball.
He does have the nicest handwriting in the office.
Does he?
Yes.
It's very nice.
Have you seen my handwriting?
I have.
I'm pretty fluid.
Fluid.
Fluid is a word that I would use.
Fluid.
I love it.
Yeah, fluid.
That's a word.
Okay.
It's like water.
You know, on a flat surface.
It just kind of spreads out.
You shut up.
You shut up.
You shut up.
So, yeah.
So there are four spring games today.
The White Sox and Cubs are playing at 4 o'clock Eastern, so 3 o'clock here,
D'Ebaks, Rockies, Twins and Red Sox, probably an hour plus.
So there's that.
I'm going to hit you with trivia.
Ready for this tournament?
You ready?
Okay.
I'm probably not, but yeah.
I'm going to give you a topic, a subject, and you can tell me who you think I'm talking about.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay, and then what is this for?
This is for the NCAA tournament.
Okay.
Highest scoring team in the tournament.
Who do you think?
They average 87.8 points a game.
Not a power six.
I'm going to go with, I'm going to go with Bryant.
Maybe they have the leading score.
Gonzaga.
Gonzaga averages 87.
Who is the lowest scoring team in the tournament?
Virginia is not in the tournament.
Shut up.
You shut up.
San Diego State.
Oh, I wouldn't have got that.
They only average 65 points a game.
The team with the most possessions per game.
Up and down, up and down.
Up and down.
Highest scoring team.
Gonzaga.
It's good.
Highest court team.
Slowest team.
San Diego State.
Akron.
Oh.
Akron.
The best free throw shooting team, which usually is a thing that takes you through the tournament.
So this team, this team from year to year will always,
do well in the tournament because they don't give away free points.
Think East.
East. Big East or just East?
Big East. Big East?
Villanova.
Villanova shoots 82.3.3 points a game.
I don't like that.
Worst free throw shooting team, which if you pick them in the first round,
probably a pretty good sign that they're not going to advance.
Virginia Tech.
Boise State.
Boise State average a decision.
They're playing Memphis.
I got Penny Hardaway squad.
That's going to be.
Best three-point shooting team at 44.2%.
Oh, I know this one.
It's Colgate.
It is not.
What?
It is not.
Although the second best.
We talked about them yesterday, though.
We did?
South Dakota State.
Yes.
South Dakota State is the best three-point shooting team.
I looked it up.
Colgate.
Charlie, Charlie's shooting 50% from three.
Yes.
Yes, he is.
Charlie Easley shooting 50% from three.
Worst three-point shooting team.
Also, another sign that you are not going to do well in this tournament.
Think big 12.
Big 12.
Well, formally.
Texan Christian.
TCU.
Oh, they're the Big 12th.
Well, no, but you don't really think of them as Big 12th.
No.
Think Mountain West.
The most experienced team and their players average almost three years per player.
a very good sign.
If you want to upset, if you want to pick an upset,
this may be a team that you want to consider.
Texas Southern.
Players as a team,
they average three players.
But how often have they been in the tournament?
Well, they won last night.
True.
You know.
I was going to say Illinois.
Here's where teams get upset.
Least experienced team.
Duke.
No.
No. No. Less experience. Their team averages. You ready for this? Point five two years experience per player. Oh, wow. Point five two. I have no idea who that. And they are a high seat. Arizona. Arizona averages point five two. And they have a first year. Oh, like I was it. Like if you want to look at upsets that. Oh, wow.
Also, okay.
So I might have to switch my bracket around.
Who is the tallest team?
Tallest.
Tallest.
This team averages six point.
They average.
I know I had to get a question right sometime.
779 and a half inches per player.
The smallest team.
We talked about them yesterday too.
South Dakota State.
Nope.
Nope.
Think Virginia.
Virginia Tech.
Longwood.
The Lancers.
The land they are four inches shorter than Arizona per player.
They have a kid from Seward.
Right.
I don't remember his name, but he plays for Longwood.
And the team with the deepest bench,
that means their players play the most minutes.
We've already mentioned them today in this segment.
In this segment.
Gonzaga, Arizona.
They are also the most experienced team.
Texas Southern.
Texas Southern.
Their bench plays 46 and a half.
half minutes. Oh my goodness.
Per game. Wow.
So I just thought I'd feed you some goodies before you fill out your bracket.
There you go, folks. Yeah, we gave you the goodies. Stay tuned. We'll close out one-on-one
handed over to the captain's show when we come back.
Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 93-7
