You're listening to One-on-One with DP.
Brought to by Canopy Street Market.
On 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticket FM.com.
One-on-one, character comes up at 12 noon.
Bach, have you ever figured out exactly what they say at the front of Sina's walkout?
Exactly what is the word?
I don't know.
Rico and I spent an hour trying to figure out what it was, and I still, I'm in great mystery over it.
So special guests, we're going to get back to the Huskers in the Super Bowl talk.
But there are very few things that take precedent at this station than good food.
And when tipsy Tina's comes to the building, we pause.
As strict says, we pause and celebrate.
Mr. Stewart, please introduce yourself to everybody.
My name is Nathan Stewart.
I'm the co-founder of tipsy Tina's and McKinney's Arsh Pub.
And can we shout out your wife now?
Sure.
Like, since she's doing the heavy,
lifting with marketing and branding. Please, let's give, let's give her some flowers. My wife,
Shandy, sir, takes care of all of our marketing, does all the photography for all of our food.
She also gets in the kitchen, does cooking, she does prep. She does about everything. She
started to help me out a lot more with the restaurants in about three, four years ago.
Okay. She also has a photography company. She was a CPS worker for about eight years.
And decided that after we opened up our third restaurant, she should probably help me out a little bit and take some stress off me.
Let me ask you why you're here.
The idea behind running multi-concept restaurants is difficult.
That's a thing that was in my past.
So I understand the challenges of trying to create and maintain an Irish pub restaurant menu,
all of the food supplies, different liquor, different events that go on there versus tipsy Tinas and otherwise.
For you, is there any crossing of sabres in what you provide for?
for one or the other?
Yeah, there is some.
One thing with the Irish problem, of course,
everyone knows Irish is whiskey.
Nathan said it.
Nathan said it.
And, you know, 50sinos,
we are the biggest tequila bar in Nebraska.
That needs to be the lead.
Like, you know, that needs to be the league.
Right now, last time I checked,
we have 268 different bottles of tequila in ourselves.
I don't believe you.
Bach and I are going to need proof.
Right.
We're going to need proof.
How many?
How many?
268 bottles.
How many are there?
Oh, tequila in the last probably five to six years has exploded.
So you had, if you go back in early 2010s, you had wine, which was really popular.
Then bourbon had this really big run.
And then dequila took over.
I think we have about 20 to 25 different brands right now.
of tequila they're owned by celebrities.
George Clooney, I don't want to say it,
Puff Daddy, Jay-Z,
George Strait, Kardashians.
I mean, you can just continue to go down there.
What do you, are, do you carry any of the celebrity tequila?
Yeah, we do.
Yep.
At most popular is probably George,
George Cloanis,
which is Casamigos.
Okay.
So you put that on the list of things.
Michael Jordan, we have his bottles.
His bottles are anywhere from $20 to $45.
No, not, not as prices as I would think.
It depends on what brand you want.
I mean, not brand, but what style from the DeNehio to the Blanco.
It kind of goes up.
One week we're to have to come in and explain the difference.
Yeah, I can bring some down here.
That part.
That part was, yeah, yeah, come on through.
We will actually line them up, do a taste test and let folks know.
And then I also, we were talking off air, but I do want to include you
and some of the stuff we're doing with Husker student athletes.
Oh, yeah, we would like to.
I think it would be some great content to have them come over in either place.
Yeah, we've done in the past, we did a lot with the, you know, rugby team for McKinney's Irish Pub.
Of course, Irish and Rugby go together because it's very popular there.
We've done some things with some of the volleyball players that are tips of teens,
and we're always willing to help out and do as much as we can.
We'll send over some athletes.
We have, especially some of the wrestlers, and we were talking about that as well,
that you can provide like clean food.
And people think with tacos in full that often, you know, you do pretty healthy.
We do, yeah.
And what do we do?
We do offer like, you know, a fried corn tortilla shell.
But we've switched to a soft shell because it is a little bit cleaner in it.
We also do have about three or four different salads on our menu.
And you get to pick your protein so you can do something clean like just a grilled shrimp.
we also do barbecola which is a little more heavier but we do have those options too
and a vegetarian options too we have a sweet potato um and we also have um having a brain fart
we have our sweet potato then we also have a veggie taco too so the sweet potato taco
how would you dress that up walk me through it so what is it's a sweet potato and we cut it up in
cubes and then we just steaming it on a flat top okay and then we top it with
avocados.
That sounds like a win.
I did bring one in today.
You brought one.
Yeah. Because I make barley asked for one.
Easily does, yeah.
Yeah, and I brought the two shrimp tacos in for them because I know they don't like
pork.
Let's go through, you brought a special today.
What else did you bring?
So we brought Alpastor.
So walk me through that.
So Alpastor is pork that is normally cooked over a fire grill with pineapple.
And it's a very sweet pork.
And it's going to be shredded.
I'm not grounded up like Teresa.
And then if on your plate,
craft the perfect taco?
Like if I were
make myself a perfect taco?
What's your perfect taco?
It's going to kind of sound bad,
but that's kind of got to be carnage and saw on us
some shredded cheese and some lettuce.
No,
I mean,
that's like the gringo taco right there.
No,
but that tells me how to.
I mean,
I put a great out.
So we have a very big Hispanic neighborhood.
And I go to a taco truck.
Did you just call that a gringo taco?
And they'd be like, okay.
Nathan, you just called out a gringo taco, man.
I am done.
That is.
That's what they used to call out when I ate,
would order one of my favorite Mexican restaurants.
That is hilarious, man, that is hilarious.
Are you doing anything special for Sunday?
We're going to open up early for the basketball game.
McKinney's is actually going to be opening up a little bit earlier
because we also have a Liverpool game that morning.
Okay.
So we're a big soccer bar.
But no, I'm just excited.
Hopefully the weather will get a little bit warmer and have a good crowd.
I know with the last two wins now, we're excited.
I mean, it's kind of disappointed.
We lost some of the games we lost this year, of course, Iowa and Rutgers.
Yeah.
And if we don't lose those games right now, we're, you know,
if you don't answer to a tournament.
Yeah, if they sit at 500 and, yeah, their ranking would be top 35.
if they hit one either of those games or both of those games.
But I think time will tell, like, you are who you are.
And if you're still figuring it out in February,
there are a lot of teams that are,
especially with new players across it.
How's business for Husker, volleyball, basketball, how's business?
Basketball's been great.
Volleyball is good this year, too.
Being in a haymarket is kind of a destination from getting from the haymarket
to Bob Vivianian,
so we don't get as much.
Okay.
But basketball's been great.
We have great customers.
I mean, we have the same guys that come down to season ticket holders.
You see every single home game.
Yeah.
So, but yeah, no, it's been good.
Just kind of getting excited for, you know, spring to come around.
January is always a very slow time in the restaurant industry.
Do you do anything for baseball, softball?
We've done some stuff in the past for baseball.
We always make sure we have like all the streaming channels so we can
show it um baseball has been kind of hit and miss kind of depending on the time of the game yeah
but last year we had a really good crowd and i think we're going to continue to build on it um
i think some people think walking from the haymarket to haymarket park is a long walk but it's
really no that's the only way i go yeah so i think um especially with the team coming out
pre-season ranked i think there's going to be a lot of excitement i don't think our first home
series until like the first of March.
Do you do anything with the different athletes from baseball or softball?
I haven't.
I've wanted to.
Well, that's a thing.
You and I,
I would love to,
especially baseball is my favorite sport.
I actually will occasionally go and do photography for the baseball for 24-7 sports.
Well,
I think there's some things that we can do to draw.
And of course,
for basketball,
the late run,
I mean,
we've got some basketball guys.
So we could actually dress up the bar a little bit, too,
to give people a chance to stay there,
lengthing those tickets out a little bit.
Exactly. Yeah, no, totally agree.
Give them a reason to stay an extra hour and spend some extra cash.
But thank you for always doing what you do.
No problem. I won't be here next week because I'll probably be, I'm going to be down in
South Padre Island celebrating the Chief Super Bowl win.
So.
Go ahead and say it.
Actually, I'm almost to the point where it's like, I really don't want to win again
because I don't want everyone sending me hate text messages.
And Taylor Swift is breaking a Super Bowl.
but those are the burdens you have great to like to win to have be super bowl champions
you know it's funny because all my bandwagon new england patriot fans now they're just coming
at me full force because i went after them and i was like oh man i just i can't even say anything
i just got to be quiet and take receipts man when people keep receipts oh man it's been it's been
fun i'm just hoping it's against the ball i mean i just hope there's no controversial calls
and just just hope it's a good game let the folks know if they're looking for a place to
to watch games on Sunday, whether it be basketball, Super Bowl, or otherwise, watch soccer.
What time hours are open for both.
So both locations will open up daily at 11 a.m.
Okay.
McKinney's is open until 2 a.m. every night.
Okay.
We also, with McKinney's, if you are a big soccer, rugby fan, and you have a special request,
we have all the streaming channels.
So if there's like Six Nations or any EPL games, things like that sort,
even the Spanish League, German Leings, all the Cups.
We always air all those games.
TNs, we have about 28 TVs.
So there's,
they're always going to be a TV right in front of you
watching any of the games.
The, the question for all outlets this weekend,
reservations, what's your, what's your part?
Just call ahead.
I mean, honestly, for the Super Bowl,
it's not as big for the bar business as what it used to be.
I mean, I've been in an industry now for,
been in a restaurant industry for 25 and was bartending when I was 19 about the turn 40 so 21 years
I'll tell you there's been a big shift and probably the last five the 10 years so I think this
will comes down to a lot of people just want to have house parties and stuff but we'll have like
audio on for the game all that um we have happy hour specials all day on Sunday for the Super Bowl
so we'll have dollar off all of our appetizers and 50 cents off every drink so there is just
calls if you're looking for a place. There you have it. Nate, thank you,
Ken sir. Appreciate you. We'll throw the break. We'll come back. We'll close out one-on-one and
hand it over to Adam Kerricker for the 12 o'clock hour.
