Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the heart of Lincoln America, a 93-7-a-ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation. Here is your host, Derek Pearson. My apologies, everyone. It was just brought to my attention that I failed in a monumental way. And it must be corrected immediately.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Wednesday. Boom. We got it. Bach, my apologies, guys, sir. This was not designed or designated as a no boom Wednesday. We must boom when we must be proud in our boom. Outstained. Outstanding. But where should everyone else be tomorrow and Friday? Well, you should be at Buffalo Wings and Rings. Make sure you join 93-7 the ticket as we watch day one and day two. of March Madness live from Buffalo Wings and Rings on 68 to No. Doors open at 10 a.m. With the first game tipping off shortly after 11 a.m.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Of course, that being the Husker game, not the first game, but at 1140, be one of the first 64 people in the door, receive a ping pong ball with a specific team on it for you to win prizes throughout the tournament. Additional prize will be given away as we broadcast live from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We'll have plenty of postgame coverage after Nebraska faces Troy as well. Stop by Buffalo Wings. rings at 68 to know this Thursday and Friday for March Madness from 11 to 6 p.m. See there, all the cool kids will be there. That's right.
Starting point is 00:01:46 All the cool kids will be at Buffalo Wings Ring. Some of us has to work. We have other jobs. Why not Ray said this? He goes, when you said fried pies, I thought maybe it was their version of Rocky Mountain oysters. And I was like, don't do it, DP. Gray, I was with you, bro.
Starting point is 00:02:01 I was with you. There has been an effort. both privately and publicly to get me to consume fried oysters, Rocky Mountain Orsters. I am still undefeated. The O is not going to go. It's never going to happen.
Starting point is 00:02:21 I take great pride in that. I take great pride in that. We'll find out what the fried pie thing is. I'm not sure what it is. We will find out what that is along the way. Bach, are you a Rocky Mountain? I would never. I just have zero interest. I'm sorry. I don't care. I'll get it taste.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Like, literally, it can be unicorns and skittles. And I was like, nope, not doing it. Not doing it. You told me what it was. Once you told me what it was, it falls firmly in line with me. And again, I, Bach, how do you define the South? Mason Dixon line, southern country, how do you define it? Yeah, I think I think southern country is kind of what I think of what I think of outside of a football. It just matters more there. Right, right. I mean, so Rocky Mountain Oysters here.
Starting point is 00:03:15 And there's a whole festival. Still no. But Jay Foreman and I have bumped heads on this. And Thoreau Farley, your co-host partner, they're both fans of a delicacy that I will never engage in. I just won't. I just won't.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Now, proper vernacular. proper way to say this from family and in the culture. Chitlins. Chitlins. And I once said that on air and somebody said, well, I can't find chitlins. Chittalings is the formal. But chitlins. First of all, I would never even talk about it with somebody that called them chitterlings.
Starting point is 00:04:05 You have disqualified yourself from being a part of the guy. conversation. Chitlins, now we can talk. Now, I had my stepdad, D.C. Cop, was an absolute fan, bonatic even, of said Chitlins. But to him, it was Christmas any time of year that he could get his hands on some, cook them, destroy them. Bach, there is, you're a recent father. The only thing it compares to the smell of a house where chitlins are being cleaned is a house with a newborn baby. Fock, you remember the first time your son's diaper just sent you off on a tangent? Remember that? Remember that?
Starting point is 00:05:02 That's what, that's what any time that anytime that pops decided to make chittling. That was, I would literally, you know the meme of, of the Simpson grandfather where he walks in and immediately turns. Yep, yep, yep, yep, that's me. That's me. That was me. And I'm that way with Rocky Bowen Orasters. So when you, when you're saying cleaning, I mean, it's doing what we're doing there. It is a pig's intestine. Yeah. And they are pulling the lining out. You have to remove the intestinal line. and that it is a smell I've been in every kind of locker room and there are certain smells right
Starting point is 00:05:49 you know the team moms especially like for lax guys lacrosse guys and the equipment that they wear all the time and sweat through and you know there's a smell Chitlin's is top tier in that space it's top tier like I would
Starting point is 00:06:05 I would rather smell a skunk being hit on the road than chitling. Yeah, that's how bad it is. Like, that's an all-time bad smell. So you've never tried them. No, never eat. No, no, no. Listen, Bach, a part of the cell for appetite and is aroma. Yes. Aroma. Aroma. There's certain smells from food that make me make the food taste better. Right. You can go to any baseball stadium, in America and the smell of hot dogs and popcorn is one that literally cartoonishly picks you up off your feet and floats you to the concession stand to consume. Right? There's certain spices that you just smile and you go, yes, yes, you know when a good pizza is showing up. You know,
Starting point is 00:07:00 there's certain smells that you just go, I'm all in. This is a smell that from, from a the front, like the moment you open the door, the kitchen's in the back of the house. The smell of this thing, Bach, I would, I've never taken a Joe Frazier left hook, but I'm pretty sure they're pretty close. Like, and the, and the, the taste in your mouth from the smell was everything. It was enough. It was enough. I'm cool.
Starting point is 00:07:36 I don't I don't I don't I'm I don't think there is anything that I eat that doesn't smell good but I'm I'm surprised by like I don't eat fish my wife will cook fish open up the door try to get the fish smell out of there I'm going well if it stinks why am I eating it how can you eat it? Bach you are you are you're a man of your man of deep wisdom sir do not do not change do not change Bach rage rage against that good I think sir. Dude,
Starting point is 00:08:08 a barbecue animal says, says he goes, yeah, Chit doesn't fit the category of food if you are on a desert island and starving to death and about to, about ready to die,
Starting point is 00:08:17 you try a bite, but then you still don't want it. All facts. But Lincoln is not a desert island. So, no chance. No, no chance. Haggis.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Same, same pocket. Bill and Bennett says, Haggis. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Textor says this about the fried pies. They're the most buttery fried crust with pie filling, fruit, chocolate, coconut, etc. Personal favorite is apricot, kids like cherry and apple. So, okay, that gets me in length.
Starting point is 00:09:01 So anybody who's making that trip from Lincoln, et cetera, to, okay, C, and you want to stop by and get some fried pies and bring them back to the ticket? You are fully, you know, you're all permissions in space. Yeah, Sanderson, I'm with, he says, listen, I don't need organs or, or intestines, period. Look, I'm all, I'm all in with you. This is why, this is why we meet. This is a club meeting. This is why this is a safe place.
Starting point is 00:09:29 You, y'all, y'all can let your crazy relatives gone out there. Look, they get a table and they line the table and all that. I'm, I'm really similar about crabs. that's a whole other discussion for another time. Head to Cleveland this afternoon. Starting point is 00:12:21 That's Blurveents.com, your college baseball and football tailgate destination. All righty, Natalie, Natalie, we've said thank you and paid the bills. Let me say this. The Huskers, Last year's performance, points record for points in the NCAA championships, and then two national champions in Ridge Lovett and Antrell Taylor. A third wrestler Brock Hardy was a finalist, made it to the finals,
Starting point is 00:12:56 got an early lead. Should be an interesting thing, him battling back through as his senior year. this year, this year, with the addition of AJ Ferrari, there are, there, there are folks, the eyes on the Huskers started early. National duels told us a lot about what college wrestling was going to be this year. And I don't think we're surprised by much, but the first round matchups of this thing. At 125 and shout out to Carol Orton for sticking to the path and trust. the process. Cale had an up and down early part of the year. There were a lot of lessons
Starting point is 00:13:40 being taught out. And Cato won. He had to battle Alan Kohler for the starting position. They went back and forth. Both got opportunities. Kail locked it down. And then Kail found answers at the Big Ten tournament that he had been seeking and searching for, qualifying and making the podium at 125 and then qualifying for the national tournament at 125. His reward as a 25 seed, a familiar face and foe. Number eight seed from Iowa, Dean Peterson. And this Peterson's, again, when you talk, so the top eight wrestlers at each weight class are all Americans.
Starting point is 00:14:25 And it takes, man, this is a grind. This is a grind. Fuck, I don't eat. When I go to this thing, I have to force myself to eat because I feel bad because I'm watching these guys battle. Remember, they still have to make weight all three days. They still have to make weight. But you have to combat. You're in gladiator mode.
Starting point is 00:14:49 And then you're trying to rest and recover and often several matches in the same day. It's a lot. It's a lot. But Kail has found some things in themselves. and he'll have an interesting draw. 125 is a loaded weight class. Also a loaded weight class, 133. Jacob Vandee, who was returning All-American,
Starting point is 00:15:11 made the top eight, made the podium last year. I fully expect him to make podium again this year. They currently seed him at 13. He will open against Julian Farber from Northern Iowa, who he has faced R.E. Farber is the 20 seed, but Van D. in a meat grinder, 5-0
Starting point is 00:15:34 earlier in the season. And that doesn't always play out, but he's familiar. I fully expect Van D. To find his way through at 141. Number three seed, Brock Hardy. You're talking about familiarity.
Starting point is 00:15:53 This is the final run for him in Nebraska. He will take on Dario Lemus from Maryland, who is the 30-seed opportunities there. Now, 32 seeds in the tournament at each weight class, Bach, it is just year three seed. Just think March Madness. They're just starting at the second round.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Except for in this, if you lose early, you can wrestle your way back into All-America status by beating everybody in the losers back. But Brock Hardy, I fully expect him to advance the semifinals, and then the four will get into the brackets over the course of the next few days as well. At 149, Chance Lamer got an at-large bid at-large bid. At 149, of course, he's stepping in where Ridge Lovett was a year ago. He will face number 13 Joseph Szargo, who he has faced already in the year.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Chance Lamer qualifying getting in. But at-large bid, so imagine at-lige bid who came in, number 20. Yeah, there's some guys that got automatic bids, but Chan's got the, and he was ranked above them. So there's that. At 157, to quote, our dear, dear favorite, Paul E, Paul Heyman, the reigning, defending, universal, champion, at 157 pounds. This year, ranked. number two, Antro Taylor. He will start his tournament. It's number 31,
Starting point is 00:17:36 Garrett McChesney of Edinburgh. Edinburgh, 31 is the C. Trelli, I think, is wrestling his best. He did not win the Big Ten title, but I think he feels pretty good about his week and how he goes through.
Starting point is 00:17:54 165, one of the great stories. The next two weight classes are two of my favorite stories about this year. L.J. Arrugio, at 165 is the sixth seed. He will start against Stanford's E.J. Parko. L.J.'s length, his first year as a Husker starter, has been impressive to move all the way through the rankings up to number six. I fully expect an All-America performance from L.J.
Starting point is 00:18:25 With the possibility that he could end up in the semis as well. At 174, Christopher Minto, I call him Mr. Mento, as he finally gets his grown man face, growing into 174 pounds. He's the three-seed. He will face number 30, Riley Davis of Wyoming. No surprise if Mento comes home with a national chip. I don't want to put pressure on him, but I don't think he would take it as such at 184. Silas Allred in eight-seat. Some would say that seating is low.
Starting point is 00:18:58 He will face Malachi Duval from John. Georgia Mason at 25. Cam McDaniel is an 11th seat. He was the number two seed in the Big Ten and finished number two in the Big Ten at the tournament. I'm not sure 11 seed is fair or appropriate, but that's kind of where he was a year ago. Actually, he was like 19 last year
Starting point is 00:19:16 and ended up being an All-American. I fully expect to see him back on the podium. And then at 285, the heavyweight, AJ Ferrari is the four-seed. The bracket will play out. He will start against Luke Rasmussen. of South Dakota State University, and I fully expect to see him high on the podium as well.
Starting point is 00:19:38 So you'll be able to follow each session, each day, two sessions. You'll be able to follow on ESPN and the ESPN app. We willfully and willingly send people over there to follow and support. Ridge Loved and I will be there. We will be giving you post-match interviews from the different Husker athletes, depending on how the match goes and access and otherwise over the course of the next several days. They finished number two in the country a year ago,
Starting point is 00:20:08 which was just a great, great performance. They finished third to the Big Ten this year. This is a meat grinder. But there are six programs, six. And I want you to understand how big this is. There are six programs in America who are sending all 10 of its starters as national qualifiers. Six.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Six. Nebraska didn't do that last year. We'll give you those six and we'll talk about those six when we come back to one-on-one. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to One-on-One with DP on 937 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
