But to say that the coverage has been outkick, that this is the line, these are the lines that never end. And it's for free books,

for family, for your young people, there are folks that, you know, they're getting bags, they're collecting their wagons. Books have been collected. They will be,

they will all have new owners. Thousands of books will be given away today to the hundreds and hundreds of, of local folks who have made their way here to Antelope Park, Wordstock, 2026. It is kind. There was a text. I do want to get to it because it is the thing. We had a text and says, yeah, there's an event.

Let's see. Let me go to the link here. Because I do want to give it a shout. I'll tell you what. I'll bring that up. It is NIL for the Nebraska men's golf. team. So it's an NIL club and they want help. So if young, young Wyman, if you could, if you could take that link and put it into the stream, I'd be fine with that. So folks can have

access to it. And then we will, we will do what we can do for it. This is the community being the community in its fullest. Again, the best part of it, the line, the lines just keep growing. So there is in the main building that holds all the books. And shout out to the volunteers who collected the books, the people who donated the books. There are thousands of books, new books that are in this building. And the families, after family, after family of folks who have come through. There are folks with, you know, full families, mom, dad, kids. there are parents who have come through just to grab books for their young people.

And that's, again, the beauty of literacy and the purpose behind it is to put the stuff, put books into the hands of young people and the adults who love them. And the adults will read. And again, I'm lucky and I'm blessed. I say it all the time. I was blessed to have a grandmother who loved to read to me. And the book of choice for her, I mean, she, listen, Sunday, I got read to.

The Bible was put in my hand early. Read from this. My grandmother sat across me. If there was a word I didn't understand, we would pause. We would pause and she would teach me what the word meant. And then she taught me how to in the future. If I ran across a word that I wasn't familiar with, how did I find it? So guess what?

Encyclopedias became a thing, right? And one book leads to another book would lead to another book. Curiosity leads to understanding. And there's a firm path between curiosity about a word, a space, a place, or other, and then learning what that is. And that's what literacy does at the highest level. The folks who are students currently, whether you're a high school student, college student, that curiosity will determine your place in the world. And your literacy level, the improvement of it. I got a number the other day that kind of made my head sped because we think that everybody is literate and everybody reads and everybody gets read to.

No. No, there's a startling number that was passed along to me, and I want to share it just if it does nothing but stunts you a little bit. I want you to understand the power of literacy and how important it is to get it early. A study by the U.S. government showed that 55% of adults in America don't read above a sixth grade level. And to me, that starts at home, that starts with people who read, that starts with getting books in hands, sitting at a table, sitting on a couch, and reading to one another. That's how important this is. As a parent, maybe the greatest gift that you can give along with a place to live,

and food to eat is to give you a young person curiosity. Give them a natural curiosity about the world. And this event, again, in its fourth year, wordstock has grown. It has expanded the number of nonprofits who are in the building, the number of food trucks, the number of families who are attending. There's great food, there's music, celebrity readers.

As a matter of fact, Todd Euler, Kayla Star, who does her show, for us, a part of the bowling program, Ray Lee Coe from the tennis team, women's tennis team. She will also be a celebrity reader. And then I think here's what's going to happen. I have a collection, a brand new collection of, it's the Dr. Seuss collection. And it's brand new. Rudy, it's brand new.

Still sealed. Sometime before 1 o'clock today, I'm going to give that. that away. I'm going to give that away. The books, yeah, you can take the books. Absolutely. You can take the books. Absolutely. Opportunities last night and shout out to Austin Orman and Todd Euler calling it to you last night for Lincoln Standing Bear and Lincoln Northwest. The first high school game of the season and the first broadcast of the season. We'll take through a full season. We'll figure out we need to set up the promotion that says how many games we're going to do over the course of this high school football season. To state championships at every level. And so all the games that will be played at Memorial Stadium

will from start to final gun, the ticket will bring you high school activities from first kickoff last night to the final gun of the season. We will bring those games to you. And then remember, you know, we're not that far from Husker football. September 5 is not that far away. September 5 is not that far away. I stand with this. I fight on a daily basis, often on an hourly basis,

that for 36 years, I coached football somewhere, somewhere, 36 years. I didn't go to training camp this year. And let me tell you, my body is screaming at me, my soul. When do we go to two days, bro? What are we doing film study? Where do we? Where's the whistle?

Like there are times when I have, it is the loneliest, saddest whistle. you ever want to see. I have the last coaching whistle I use. And it sits, it sits at home on my desk, just staring at me. It's staring at me, and we have conversations with me in this whistle.

DP, you don't love me anymore? This is our time. This is when we shine, bro. I wait all year for you to blow this whistle, man. What are we doing? And so it's pretty spectacular to watch. I still, privately, I'll confess that I still do my film study.

Just now my film study is Nebraska from a year ago. I don't have this year's film study. That's the lead when we say we're talking about Nebraska football. I have a rule for radio, and I'm sincere about it. Talk about what you know, be curious about what you don't know. Those are the rules. Those are the rules and the responsibility of having a microphone. One, if you have the opportunity to be heard, have something good to say.

Right? And if you can't find something good to say, give up the microphone. Give it up. But talk about and then what you curious about what you would like to know. Those are the things. Can't speak at expertise about a thing you don't know absolutely. And anybody that tells you, I'm giving you the cheat code, anybody that tells you they know what this Nebraska football team looks like.

If they're not on the coaching staff, they're not telling you truth. And I'll tell you another honest truth. Nobody on the coaching staff knows what this. record with the season's records going to be not one not one coaches will tell you they've done their work they know how much what percentage of their work have they done are you young man we'll get you a bag go get you some books and enjoy yourself right yeah let's get it done here's i mean talk about what you know and so for de brasco football we're given access once a week

20 minutes of practice each week. And it is a fully scripted 20 minutes. So we know what they want us to know. They show what they want us to see. We don't control what they show us. But then here's the thing. The coaching staff has gone through. They see every practice, every rep, every player.

They go through. That's what they do. So when the coaches come to the podium and they tell you what they know, they still can't tell you what they don't know. Practicals is another thing. Scrimmages is another thing. But game speed, game speed is its own beast. And you don't know what the game speed of this Husker team is.

That's the truth. And I try to explain to people that, yes, I understand that you. want to jump ahead and you want to be the first one on the right and oh this is how i see it not me not me let it play let it play you're going to have a new you're going to have a new quarterback yes the quarterback is the mountain west the raining mountain west conference most valuable player your your new quarterback uh is going to take his first snap in the big 10 conference in four weeks or in four weeks or in four games, not even four weeks, four games. Your starting running back has not started a game in the Big Ten.

Three at three, at least three, maybe, well, no. At least two of your starting offensive linemen are new to Nebraska and playing Big Ten football. There's a whole other number based on the depth chart, the released depth chart, on the defense. what we know versus what we think we know. And let me tell you, if you tell me that you go into fall camp and that on August 22nd that your starters have been determined for September 5, what are you doing at camp the next two weeks? Do you allow for the light to go on for a young player?

Are you allowing time for a player to get it? what if one of your players your second level players get it in the two weeks and as as coaches isn't that your job if you tell me that there's a player who cannot be coached to better in two weeks what are we doing and if you have two weeks not everybody not everybody receives at the same level that's that's an absolute i look forward to finding out what the depth chart is going to be September 4th. And if you tell me that your depth chart today is how you're going to work on September 5, I'm going to say we miss some opportunities. If nobody gets better, if nobody gets better between now and September 5, I have a whole different set of questions. I really do.

But we'll find out. We'll find out. But we get to focus now. It's Ohio, September 5, Memorial Stadium, 11 a.m. That's what we know. What do we know about Ohio? Not much. Not much.

If you're not watching this year's film study of Ohio, do you know of Ohio? What you know is that the last time the Nebraska's projected starting quarterback faced Ohio, he was held to 10 points. That's what we know. Does that mean that's the level? Absolutely not. everything's possible. Everything's in play.

Everything's good. Everything's good. You can just take him inside there. Maybe find someone who's going to be able to. Yeah, there's some folks. Yeah, they want to donate folks. And again, over the course of the next couple hours, donating new-ish books, new and new-ish books.

Still, there's time. There's time. So if you want to get down here, You want books for young people. You want to donate books. We'll be here until two. They're officially going until one, but we'll be here until two. And quite frankly, they're not going to turn down books no matter what time you show it.
