Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to One-on-One with D.P. Sponsored by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. I felt like dancing a little bit. I thank Charlie Miley from the Salt Dogs for stopping in with us. I do want to shout out one of our own. So last night, Michaela Curtis from Talking Tens made her farewell. She's moving on. She graduated, and now she's headed off to be a college coach herself.
Starting point is 00:01:01 And she's leaving. And last night she stopped in. She said, Rico, be sure. She wanted to make sure your daughter got the leotard. She did. And I was like, yep. She tried putting it on. It did not fit.
Starting point is 00:01:13 But you try anyway. And we appreciate Michaela and Kenzie Robey for, again, pioneers in this kind of student athlete. broadcast deal. We needed people to be out front. And they were two of the right ones. They stuck to it and they showed up when things weren't going well.
Starting point is 00:01:36 They showed up when things went well. And their family. So when they move along, you're proud. You're proud that they move along. And let's be clear, to say to folks, that's part of why we're here is to help them move along. Like we will give them amplification and air while they're here, and then we will celebrate them when they move along.
Starting point is 00:02:01 And Michaela, dear, we're going to miss you. Your personality, your smile, we're going to miss it. Kenzie, I know you're already in the graduate world and driving yourself crazy, but don't forget us because we won't forget you. So thanks for what you do and for what you're going to do because it's important and it matters. And then as we progress, and so full clarity, we're in that off-season kind of space. So from June until late August,
Starting point is 00:02:35 the student athletes, this is their travel time, their recoup time, their recovery time, that sort of thing. Some have made themselves available throughout that process. And we are grateful and thankful for them. Like the folks from deep, deep end, they picked up pretty quickly, Reagan and Madison, picked it up pretty quick and said, we're sticking with it.
Starting point is 00:02:53 The same thing for Chancellor and crew, even as they go through their summer workouts, they're sticking to it. We'll add some more basketball players in another show. So we're flexible over the next couple of weeks when it comes to weeknight, although this week we're full, like we have a really good week this week. So again, I know we will be at Shaq, Dachshack tomorrow night from 9 to 11. I'm not sure if we're going to go before that. I'll have to make that call because Raff and Davis might be pretty cool
Starting point is 00:03:28 if they're both in town to be out there. Like they would love that spot. That's really just the is AD in town kind of question. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So remind me to shoot that text. And then Thursday night we're going to be at Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul. And we're going to take a whole bunch of folks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:48 We're going to eat so hard on Thursday. Thursday. Like it's going to be crazy. I'm so excited. And you guys, as listeners, you're welcome to come out and join us. As a matter of fact, I know we're having a Jersey raffle Thursday night. Signed Neil Smith is, I think, is what we're doing Thursday. Nice. So you just have to come out and put your name in the raffle Thursday. And we can do that. And then we'll give you more details for tomorrow night with Daxack. Because if you're, it's Daxack and Lincoln's Pub and Franco's.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Yeah. and you're going to eat well. It sounds fantastic. How was the sandwich yesterday? I didn't eat a whole thing. I just took a bite of it. It was pretty solid. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:30 That's kind of the space for it. So again, thank you for being... I ate most of the sausage pizza. I noticed that there was none of that left. I destroyed the pepper. It was kind of spicy. I destroyed the pepper.
Starting point is 00:04:43 I destroyed it. I apologize to everybody. And no one because... I was going to grab another slice. And then I was like, and then you were like, all right, I'm taking the pepperoni. I was like, oh. Yeah. I was like, yeah, whatever.
Starting point is 00:04:55 I have sausage pizza. Nick said the crab rangoon pizza is really good. I'm not a big crab rangoon guy, but he said it was delicious. We gave the remainder to the rest of the girls who were here last night. And then the meatball pizza went pretty quickly as well. Yeah. And we'll have to load in and get some from canopy market. I'll call Dan.
Starting point is 00:05:16 And we'll get meals for the rest of the week. The volleyball program schedule was released today. Yep, I'm looking at it right now. They'll begin August 26th and 27th, Texas A&M, Corpus Christi, Tulsa, and Pepperdine, and the Husker Invitational at Devaney. Fun. The following weekend, Loyola, and it's a word that I have difficulty saying, Loyola, Marymount.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Marymount, and Old Miss to Devaney for the Emeritus Players Challenge. This year, the tournament will be spread over three days with one match being played on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. O Miss is coached by former Husker and All-American Kayla Banwark. So that is in place. The schedule is looted.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Then you travel to Creighton, and then you welcome in. Hello. Former associate head coach and former middle blocker. Tyler Hildebrand and Kali Schwarzenbach is Long Beach State. Comes to Lincoln, September 10th.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And then back to back. I mean, well, not back to back. And then three days later, Stanford, baby. Stanford. Then they'll go to Kentucky, who again was national champs two years ago. Yep. So Creighton, Long Beach, Stanford, Kentucky. That is a stacked non-conference schedule.
Starting point is 00:06:36 That is a, goodness gracious. You're right. That is a stack schedule. So for that 26th, which is the opening day for football, Saturday. It's a 2 o'clock match. 2 p.m. Which, you know, you're going to have.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Actually, no, it works out. So the Huskers, the women will play Tulsa at 6.30. So you'll have time to watch the football game and then get over to D'Avann. Well, you can go to Dvani early, 11 o'clock, watch and play Texas A.m. Corpus Christi. And then you can go home, watch the football game, and then come back and watch play Tulsa. Yeah. So it's going to be, no, the Friday, the corporate's Christi Gavis.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Oh, it's Friday. Yeah, you're right. Friday at 11 o'clock. So I will sprint from here on Friday. Actually, I can't because I'll be at State Fair. You're in Grand Island. Maybe I'll go. It'll be in Grand Island.
Starting point is 00:07:28 So we'll work that. Maybe I'll go and I'll give you a report. Please do. Well, actually, I can't. I'll be at work. Dang it. We will figure it all out. It's going to be craziness.
Starting point is 00:07:39 It's going to be craziness. Yeah, I'm glad this plays out. Again, the season opener within the Big Ten is, here on the 23rd against Michigan State and then Ohio State Saturday. So they're going to dive straight into they're going to dive straight into the Big Ten season as well. That is just what.
Starting point is 00:07:57 So you've got some, you know, non-power-five schools, whatever, you know, still some solid schools. And then you have Ole Miss, coached by a former player, Creighton, Long Beach State, Stanford, Kentucky. Yeah. Goodness gracious.
Starting point is 00:08:14 That is a great. That is, look, that's going to be fun. That's sharp. That's sharp. Let's see if I can't get some Stanford. No, it's Tuesday. I don't know what time. Maybe it'll be a late one.
Starting point is 00:08:26 See if I can get some tickets for the Stanford game. Okay. Rico, question for you? Yes. Husker Mount Rushmore. Go. Husker Mount Rushmore? Oh, don't do that to me.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Yeah. Don't do that. All sports? Four people. Four people? All sports? Anybody want. Tom Osborne, Rhonda, Ravel.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Okay. Then we can go with some players, some players, some players. You're not going to put Devaney in? What's wrong with you? Oh, yeah, you're right. No, but too late. You can't put him on. Too late.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Whatever. Osborne has three. I know that he, you know, Devaney coached him up, but still. So Osborne Ravel, let's go. John Cook. I just, and now I'm spacing his name. Who was the coach for the bowling program before? The correct answer would be Jay Foreman.
Starting point is 00:09:21 I ain't going to put no J-form. Like, I was going to yell at Jake. I'm like, how is your dad not on your Mount Rushmore for the O. Like I meant that. Like I literally wrote that down. I'm like, like, I thought when he got to number four. See, I'll just go coaches. When he got to number four, I thought it's dad, right?
Starting point is 00:09:38 Like, I thought it's dad. Yeah. And not dad. Not dad. And I was like, oh, Jay. Want-W-W-W-J. Who was the bowling coach, before they just went into the hall of thing they just got nominated yeah just got nominated
Starting point is 00:09:53 i hate myself for not knowing this okay this is how we do this is a process this is therapy you go ahead and work it out uh bones says danny knee is his thought um i mean you could yeah i don't know we haven't um we don't know what we're going to do for volleyball tickets yet we will i will that later. Not only to think about it, I'll write that down. Well, it's things to think about, right? I know we'll have some Husker football tickets for the season.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I just not sure about that. Bill Straub. Straub. Yeah, thank you. There we go. Thank you, Mickey. Greatly appreciate it. But yeah, so your Husker Rushmore would be...
Starting point is 00:10:38 Just four coaches. All right? No place. Four all-time great coaches. Can I have a separate Mount Rushmore? Like the back side is the play. Players. Da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Just athletes. Yeah. And you're going to be wrong. I know. I know I am. No matter what you say, you're going to be wrong. Marlene, Audie. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Jordan Larson. Okay. Jordan Burroughs. Of course. And... You're not going to take a baseball play? Are you going to take Gordon? No, I am not.
Starting point is 00:11:19 I think I'm going to go with... I think I'm going to go with Tommy Frazier. You need a football player. You need a football. I think I'm going to go to Tommy Frasier. I got mad at me a couple months ago when I did the football players Mount Rushmore. The football player Mount Rushmore is impossible and you will never be right. But it doesn't mean we can't try.
Starting point is 00:11:40 No. Right? I mean, with the volleyball Mount Rushmore is impossible and you will never be right. Which doesn't mean you don't try. Basketball, impossible. Like all of them are impossible and you will never be right. There is no, like, certain set of four that you can choose that everyone will agree with. There will be, there might be three that people agree with, and then your fourth one, they'll be like, I don't know about that.
Starting point is 00:12:02 You do what Chase just did and say, okay, so you get the triplets plus suit. But that means you leave off Tommy and Crouch and Rogers. Rogers. Yeah. That's a lot. Right? Do I dare? Do I dare put that challenge in this space? No. Yes. Actually, yes.
Starting point is 00:12:25 I have to do it. Okay, so then let's do this. Let's do this. So for that, that extra pair of tickets, I'll take the best. Kevin, Dave Rimmington. I'll take the best four. I'll take, no, I'll take the best one and give them four tickets plus a parking pass for Thursday night's game. You know, is that fair? That is very fair.
Starting point is 00:12:47 And I got to, so Kevin is, Kevin is right. People always forget about mentioning Dave Rimmington. He's the only one that has an award named after it. I'm just, but here's my thing. I want somebody. Like, there is an award named after this man. I want somebody to light up the text line with the greatest four Husker athletes. Football.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Just football. Just football. Greatest four football players. Your Mount Rushmore of Husker football. Who. Because it's, and it's going to take somebody to pull. put together the best combination with a reason. Like there has to be a theme to it.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Hold on, hold on. I have a theme. No, no, no, no. But don't give it yet. I'm not going to give my theme. I have to go through it, though. 4-2, 4-6-4-6-85. The Husker football, Mount Rushmore,
Starting point is 00:13:41 and we'll give away four tickets and a parking pass to the Salt Dogs. We'll do that when we'll come back to Old School. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter. Which, you're listening to One-on-One with DP on 937 the Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
