Back to one-on-one with D.P.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket.
93-7, the ticket, just a few minutes here as we wrap up the show and get ready, clear the way for Adam Kerker to come in for his Friday show here.
We've been talking a lot about Nebraska football to this point and what to expect in the upcoming season.
But I also did want to get your thoughts, awesome, before we get out of here.
on Nebraska basketball's
Sanford Pentagon opponent,
Boise State.
They announced the other day
that that will be the opponent.
They will return there.
And that's just become such a cool little
maybe tradition now that Nebraska basketball has started.
I don't think even 4,000 people fit into that arena.
But it is very cool.
I know several friends who make the trip out there.
You've been out there at a time or two.
Have you not?
Indeed.
Yes.
Nice drive.
Easy little trip.
And hopefully going to be able to make it again this year.
Yeah.
absolutely. And Boise State is interesting, of course, because Nebraska went after a Boise State player.
Didn't ultimately get him. That would have made a little bit more interesting for this game.
But the Huskers' only matchup with Boise State was in the Crown Tournament a couple of years ago.
Of course, got the 79-69 win in the Crown Tournament.
As we all know, Nebraska's never lost a Crown Tournament game.
The only state in the program in the state that can claim that.
That's right. The Broncos brought its worth finished 20 and 14 last year, tied for fifth in the Mountain West.
before that they had made five straight postseason appearances.
So, I mean, it's a good enough team.
Also keep in mind that they are going to be playing in the PAC 12 this year.
That'll be a little bit of adjustment.
That's a pack 12 appointment we're talking about there out in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota that Nebraska will be playing.
That's the important part.
Add another power conference game, baby.
That's right.
Does it count as power?
It will.
It will.
It will, I believe.
Well, Gonzaga is in that league.
That's what I'm saying.
If it's Gonzaga is in the league, it's a power league.
So long live the West Coast Conference.
No, I think it's a fun game.
I think in terms of the watchability of these games for Nebraska,
I think you've had two really good ones, St. Mary's and in Oklahoma.
One goes Nebraska's way.
One doesn't.
The Oklahoma State game was supposed to be a better game than it was,
but that Nebraska team played some pretty darn good basketball that day.
I got to go up there for that one as well.
And the Oregon State game was not interesting from the jump.
Nebraska pretty much dominated a bad Oregon State team.
This one, though, I think, is probably going to fall somewhere in the middle of watchability.
I would guess you've had two, you know, semi-classic games and two pretty bad ones.
For my money, though, it's probably the second best scheduling job Nebraska's done with this game.
I really like the St. Mary's game, kind of St. Mary's Pilled at this point.
But that's a reputable program that Nebraska got to travel halfway across the country,
measure itself against it, ultimately ended up falling short.
But I love Nebraska scheduling a really good mid-major game that was going to age well.
even this Boise State one when it was a, you know,
a Mountain West game instead of a Pac-12 game.
It's a good mid-major that's been around the NCAA tournament bubble for the last decade.
I really like that.
The Oklahoma one,
that team was supposed to be better than it ended up being Nebraska won it,
made him look a little silly.
This Oklahoma game, he didn't really know.
That was, you know, nostalgia for the fan, regional program.
Probably should play that game in Kansas City instead of the Pentagon,
but you take it where you can get it.
In the Oregon State game, how random you just needed someone to fill it.
And you got, you know, a name that people have heard,
before, but for what reason? So on my list in terms of like appropriate like scheduling process,
this is probably the number two game for me behind that St. Mary's one.
How do you think the call goes, do you think that they attempt to get a lot of teams to do this?
Because I would imagine it's an, it's an interesting sell when you get the call for Nebraska
and they ask you if you want to play in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the San Francisco.
Well, I think it makes a lot of sense for, you know, like a Boise.
It's a long flight from Boise, but, you know, upper mid-major team.
a, you know, northern-ish kind of state.
Obviously, they know it's closer to Nebraska,
but I think Nebraska's profile increases it.
I think Luca Virgilio goes in with the plane.
He's the one that handles a lot of the scheduling for Nebraska.
And, you know, I don't know how many conversations he has to have
before he locks down an opponent.
But I would guess it hasn't been a terribly difficult sell for Nebraska.
I think they know kind of what they're looking for out of this game by now.
Yeah, yeah.
It's worked out, and I can't wait for another matchup here again, this time with Boise State.
That are wrapping up for one-on-one.
Thanks again, Austin, for jumping in.
back on old school Adam Carrier coming up next.
