Welcome back.
Every bulletin, Husker tennis.
Yeah, I think the hoop thing has to happen.
There needs to be like a Husker athletics one-on-one tournament for everybody not basketball.
I love it.
Right?
So if we were going to set the Vegas odds, who's likely?
Is there somebody from football maybe that you think could give?
you give you a hard time one-on-one i mean i will say the the slam dunk contest i think it was my
first year uh i'm pretty sure some of those guys i don't know i'm and some of those guys can
i'm telling you like some of those guys can i think it'd be close it'd be really fun to watch but
i would say yeah there's there's probably some football players that probably will have better odds
than me and then maybe like a high jump yeah some high jumpers yeah those guys are studs
like just different world different yeah different world we need to we need to have to have
that we're also going to we're working on the Husker tennis uh pickleball yeah tournament yeah
it's like an open mm-hmm gonna have the open oh yeah people love pickleball too yeah so let me ask you
just between us just three no yeah just between us because i know how you know you know you don't
want it yeah yeah what do you think of pickleball players i would say i would say i'm more i'm more
open-minded to it than most tennis players.
A lot of tennis players would immediately start, you know, hating on it.
But I think for me, I think it's fun.
Like, I'll play with my family.
And it's a little, it's a little.
It's very different than tennis.
And it's fun, man.
I think it's fun for everybody to play.
And I don't know about taking tennis courts out for pickleball courts.
Yeah, that part.
That part's crazy.
But I think in general, I think it's great, man.
I, I've actually been to a couple tennis tournaments that have fickle ball tournaments there as well.
And it's a great atmosphere.
People are having a blast.
And, you know, it's fun.
so I'm a fan of it.
I was talking to Hermann and Peter,
and I think that that would be the plane.
Yeah.
Just to have an open where Husker fans get a chance to play on court to Dylan.
Yep.
Right.
Maybe have the one point challenge with all the Husker coaches in the athletic department
and try to figure out who comes through.
I said this on air.
I'm not sure it would be the main.
in coaches. I don't think so. I got no faith in them.
Right. I'm telling you right now. I got no faith. Maybe Shunia. Yeah.
Shunya. Okay, Shunya is still an unbelievable athlete. Yeah. But Brett and Pete, no chance.
Yeah. I just think it's, well, his sister would probably take it. Yeah. No, no. She's,
she can play. Yeah. Right. She'd probably take a map. Yeah. It's that time of year in the NFL.
Um, so to remind folks, you are in fact a New York Jets fan.
That's right. Yep. Okay. So explain to me why. Why would you do that to yourself?
You know, it's a good question. It really is. Because so I grew up in New York and there's obviously two teams. It's the Giants and their Jets.
And when I was growing up, the Giants were winning Super Bowls. The Jets actually back to back years had looks at Super Bowls with Mark Sanchez, Rex Ryan. And we had a stud of a defense, Daryl Rivas and Tonyo Carmardi.
So at the time, it honestly wasn't that painful.
It was actually not too bad.
And I always loved the Jets because a bunch of my friends,
like my guys that went to school with, you know, we're Jets fans.
So I was like, all right, so that's kind of how I started it.
But now for the past, I would say, 15 years outside of 2015,
when we had Fitzpatrick, Brandon Marshall, Eric, you know, we had all these guys.
Curtis Martin.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We had all these studs come through.
And, you know, I was like, outside of that,
been just a lot of pain.
It's been a lot of pain.
Bach, you understand the band, right?
Yeah, that's right.
You're a Cardinals guy, right?
He had Cardinals fan.
So there's a year or two where you can get excited.
Yeah.
For the most part, it's not.
I have to, I have to admit, so to tell you, even as a D.C. kid,
I had family in New Jersey, and they were Jets fans.
Right.
And I go back to, I was the proud owner of a,
Joe Willie Namath White.
That's clean right there.
Right? With the three-quarter sleeves and the elbow patches.
Oh, yeah. I had a, I had a John Riggins.
Okay. Jets. Yeah.
Big Afro John Riggins before he cut it down.
And then I don't know how it happened, but I somehow ended up with a Mark Gaston.
And I went, wow, I don't know what to do with that.
I knew what to do with them with them. And I had a Don Main.
So I'm old school 69 70s Jets and then I bounced.
He bounced.
I bounced because I was like, whatever's going on there.
No.
No, we're not going to do that.
Now, as a Jets fan, having to watch this year's playoffs with the full understanding that it appears
that the universe is working together in collusion to get the New England Patriots,
back on top.
Now, as a Jets fan, could you ever,
is there any scenario
where you find yourself rooting for
something good to happen to the New England page?
Okay, so before I answer that,
I will say, I like Drake May.
Okay.
I like Rable, but I hope they never win another game.
Because, you know, all the Pats fans,
and a lot of my friends are Pats fans,
they're like, oh, we had some rough years.
I'm like, what are you talking about?
What are you talking about?
Rough years.
I was like, you had Brady, you won six Super Bowls.
I was like, I'm a just, we're some of rough years.
It's been like three years and you have Drake May now.
You had a bad dream, bro.
You had a bad nap.
Yeah, you had a bad nap on a Tuesday afternoon.
It wasn't even on the weekend, man.
No, but I have to say, I do respect the Patriots now for what they're doing with the team they have.
But like I said, I hope they lose by 50.
Easy.
Yeah.
Easy 50.
Like I don't,
I don't want it to be competitive.
No.
And then of course,
it happens.
And then the bone makes injury.
Crazy.
Anyway,
I just went,
really?
This is what we're doing.
It's insane.
It's crazy how it happened, too.
He was walking off the field.
He was fine.
And then we get the news also.
Well,
it was the kneeled out.
Yeah,
it was crazy.
It was the kneel down.
And then he pushed himself off.
And yikes.
Yeah.
It's there.
So go through the two games.
Right.
Broncos Patriots. How do you think this guy?

BenMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement
with iGaming Ontario honestly i think the paths will win but i'm rooting for the broncos and i do think
i do think the backup quarterback's got a little game to him i've watched some i watched some film on
i remember i'm in college he can play a little bit people are are giving the pats a little too much credit
i think right now but i do think the pass win he started in the league so he's he's he's got so he's been
around maybe not super productive right but he's started in the league so it's not like he's running out
for his first start.
Yeah, exactly.
And Sean Payton was talking to the media a little bit about him,
and he was mentioning it too in camp talking about,
or maybe it was during the season talking about how well he's been playing in practice.
So I think they have a chance, but I'll be rooting for the Broncos,
not even a question.
And then I think, you know, Seahawks Rams, it's going to be a battle.
I think that game has potential to be the game of the year.
And I think whoever wins that is going to win the Super Bowl.
But I honestly, I love Stafford, I love Donald,
but I'm going to be pulling for the Seahawks because Donald's a former jet.
And I feel like he always got to treat it unfairly with his time on.
Well, he gets into the jets.
That's exactly.
That guy's owed.
He's old.
The football karma guy needs.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He needs to pay through.
To flip it, to be on campus and be a part of the athletic department and watch this Huskers hoops.
And as a baller.
Yeah.
There's got to be just a euphoria.
kind of heaven. We couldn't have written the script and believed it. If somebody,
if somebody wrote this down two months ago, we go, you put it away.
Yeah. Put it away. What do you see? I mean, the buzz around the facility,
especially around the, you know, the stadium and the athletic department is insane right now.
And it's so good for the school and it's so good, obviously, for the basketball team. And
it's just like, I was saying, watching them, it doesn't matter if they're up by 30 against
against Oregon, they were absolutely crushing them, and they're diving after loose balls,
up by 30. I was like, this is, you know, this is crazy. And it's just the way they play is just so
inspiring, not only for fans, but for other teams. And, you know, it's really put a lot of confidence
into all the teams because we're seeing the basketball team. We're seeing all the things they're doing.
We're like, all right, you know, they're doing it. They could be us, too. And they're giving
confidence to all the other teams. And like I said, it's just so great to watch them. And I think
Hoyberg's a great coach. It's been a blast. And I don't think they're going to lose any time.
soon, to be honest.
That's been the thing.
If you're talking about,
and I said, if you go one game at a time,
they're going to be fine.
Don't get out over your skis.
Yeah.
Do that.
Now, here's the thing.
The women's program is sitting in the top 25.
Yep.
I find it fascinating about their practice squad.
You ever, like, maybe not go over to the guys,
but maybe go over to the girls' practice and get you up and down on.
You know, I know a few of the practice players for the,
you know, that help out the women's team.
And, you know, I think it's cool.
And those girls can play.
Let me tell you.
I once in one of the games, they can shoot the lights out.
Let me tell you, I was watching.
I was like, just, they were just raining threes.
And, you know, I think it's exciting that both programs are doing so well.
And, yeah, they can, they can flat out play.
Are you up for the, for the Henry versus Brit Prince three point challenge?
Are you up for that?
I mean, I would do it, but I would, I would need a few weeks because right now.
You hear this?
Right now she would, she would.
absolutely kill him. She could, she can play. She's a baller. Yeah. She's a, but right now she's
100% taking me down. It's not even a question. Could you take Bach in a three point shooting
contest? I feel like, I feel like he's got a jumper on him, but I, I'm going to take me for now
just because I've never seen him play. Bach? Yeah, I mean, I can shoot. That's about all I can do. I
think you've got every beat in every other category. But, uh, yeah, I'm not going to make you play
one on one. But I think shooting three would be that would be the deal. Right.
I think that would be fair.
It's also this, that within the athletic department,
and of course, now what happens with Indiana in football
changes the conversation,
changes the way we think about it with all college athletes,
even at the power four level and in the Big Ten.
So then we say, if Indiana can do it,
if the worst football program in the country can rise up in two years,
two years and win a national title in the toughest sport to do it, then that takes the entire
roof off every athletic department. Because now Nebraska tennis, there's no reason why you can't win
the Big Ten title and win the national title, right? Is that how this plays? Yeah, I mean,
100% and like we were talking about off air, I think the one thing with them is they just got the right
guys in the building. You know, it's not the five stars or, you know, the number one recruits in the
country, but, you know, Signetti's found these guys that he knows character-wise, we're going to do
all the right things. They're going to, you know, come and do all the extra work, and then that's why
you see it pay off. And like you said, I think it's definitely set the new standards for college sports
where, you know, in the poor world now, it's not all about the stars. You just got to find the right guys.
And I think, like I said, I think we have those guys this year on the, on the team. I really do. And I think we're
going to not only, I think we're going to shock a lot of people, but like, we, we definitely won't
be shocked because I think we have some, some guys in the team this year that can do it.
I think I find it fascinating again that Memphis comes to town.
I don't know why that felt like a later in the year matchup.
Yeah.
And it's Memphis on Friday and Drake.
So it's a double header.
I think it was originally supposed to be that, but now we're playing both on Sunday.
So we'll play at 11.
11. And then I think the second, five, yep, Drake's at five.
Drake said five.
Yeah.
As a player, how do you do, I mean, do you scout?
Do you, do you, or are you just worried about what you need to do in your game?
Yeah, I think the thing, it's honestly like a lot, especially when I got here, I was surprised.
It's a lot like basketball in that.
We're in the film room a lot.
Like, we're going to actually watch film today later, later today.
I'm going in there.
And I'm not even going to, I'm not going to play.
because I'm injured, but I'm going to go in there with the guys,
and we're going to break down some of the film from this past weekend.
And, yeah, it's a lot of it's scouting as well.
And, you know, it's exactly like basketball.
They'll be scouting reports and, you know, we'll have a game plan.
So it's for sure a lot of strategy in that, in college tennis for sure.
And the film is key, not only on like the other teams,
but a lot of it is on our own matches.
And the one thing that's great about playing at home is we have access to all the,
you know, not only one, but there was two dual matches this weekend.
And so we could sit down with the coaches and watch, you know, two full matches.
And you can, you know, it is in sports.
You don't feel something going on.
And then you watch it, you're like, oh, okay, now I see what they're talking about.
And then those little adjustments, especially in tennis, especially in doubles.
You can make an adjustment on one or two points.
You can flip the entire match.
They can go your way.
So, yeah, the film room is so important.
It's going to be a great weekend.
And they sandwich it around wrestling, which works perfectly.
Exactly.
So you can catch the Huskers tennis versus Memphis, go over to Devaney, see them take on Ohio State, and back to Dylan.
What a day.
That's a full day.
That's a full day.
We can do that.
We'll go to break.
We'll come back.
Get asking what's going on the NBA.
His Knicks.
His Knicks.
They took a tough one.
And then, yeah, I need to break it down for me.
We'll get that when we come back to one-on-one.
