You're listening to one-on-one with DP, brought to by Canopy Street Market,
on 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticket FM.com.
Welcome back.
It is, we're in a weird face and phase where talkers, entertainers, narrators, hosts, etc.
you get into space sometimes and you're asked to give opinion,
you say, okay, cool, I want to give opinion.
I understand, but being held accountable for opinions,
which is part of why I've stayed away from predictions and that sort of thing, right?
Because people say, well, you know, if you give a prediction and you're wrong,
then it devalues your opinion.
It devalues your word.
Like, if you constantly say, I think this is what will happen,
and then it doesn't happen, then every time you say that thing or a thing, it devalues it.
So I'm a member of that club.
Listen, I don't like the prediction business because it's just hot air.
It just is.
And I understand that people like it.
So do it.
Okay.
It's good for you.
I'm too busy trying to figure out the stuff from me.
Like, I want to know from knowing.
I want information in data, but I don't necessarily, I would rather be right than first.
Does that make sense?
That's the old, old journalism quote, yeah.
Right.
I would rather be right than first.
Like, I don't need to be the first one to claim knowledge of an outcome or data.
We can speak to data, but I kind of just like the idea that I don't know.
And I know that I don't know.
There are people that will go through and say, you know what?
This is, scream to the sky.
You're fighting ghosts, right?
That you're throwing your hands towards heaven.
But I lean heavily on the place that I want my word to have value.
And I think that's what I work from.
And I don't put that on anybody else.
I don't, I'm not telling Bach not to have predictions.
I'm not telling Farley that to have predictions.
I'm not telling character, not to have predictions.
Have your predictions.
I'm not telling fan base, not to have your prediction.
I will gladly read your prediction.
I will gladly share what you think the truth will be
as long as you're willing to be held accountable for it.
Well, I think people too,
I hope most people understand that predictions
mostly fall into the entertainment category
rather than this is what's going to happen
because good luck.
You give 10 predictions and see if you're going to.
go 10 for 10 that week, you're not going to. Right. Like, you know, I, I take full pride in people
who are willing to track how little they know. Right. Like you go, okay, we're going to pick 10 games
this week. Last week, I was, I only got four of them right. So I have no idea what I'm
talking about. So take, take the, with a grain of salt, take the medicine with some bubble gum
because quite frankly, it's, it probably, it probably wasn't good last week. Like the soup
wasn't good. I made soup. It was terrible.
Eric says DP's mantra.
I don't know.
Correct.
Correct, sir.
You are absolutely correct.
If you ask me what I know to be true, that's different than you asking me what I think is true.
And I'm fully capable and willing to have that conversation with you.
Ask me what I think is different than ask me what I know.
And I will answer either question.
and simple, right?
From the text line as well, Tommy says this.
He says, DP, since you moved to and embraced Husker Lane,
is this the biggest game for Nebraska?
Further explain, there is no first year head coach.
We have 20 new starters type of excuses.
To me, it feels like the biggest game in 10 years.
I've said on air that it felt like to me the biggest game since I've been here
surpassing Colorado last year,
surpassing Iowa last year.
right, maybe even surpassing Wisconsin, right?
The ball game, the pinstri ball was big, big, but we didn't size it that way.
We were celebrating.
We weren't highlighting or amplifying how big the game was in itself, because the difference
between having discussions about a six and seven Husker football team over the past
six months versus a seven and six Husker football team.
like I fully scream out loud how big the win in the pinstripe bowl was.
That, to me, that was exceptional.
Now, we have to be careful because we got here last year
with an undefeated Nebraska team playing Illinois.
We got to this precipice and then we stared into the abyss
and it did not smile back.
And it sent this entire thing in a different direction.
The GPS for Nebraska football, where it stands, it tells you, it tells you how you got to where you are.
And how we got to 3 and O Nebraska versus 2 and 1 Michigan in September of 2025,
that's what the GPS says.
We know that there's some in mission to this thing, right?
bowl game, Big Ten Conference Championship game, playoffs, whatever that you put in the GPS.
And I'm not sure if we know what's in the GPS, right?
I'm not sure what the thing is, winning season probably.
We're headed towards a winning season and the GPS will tell you where they're headed
towards that.
But if you take a detour, if you make a left turn with a loss, your mission has to recalculate.
and this is the biggest recalculation since I've been here.
This is a fork in the road.
You can stay straight, right?
Or you can take a detour.
You can hit a speed bump.
Now, it may not be a full re-wrap.
It may not be a full recalculation.
It may just be you're better,
you're closer to your goal of a winning season than you think,
but you're not there yet.
You're going to have to make some changes.
Right. You're going to have to make some changes. So that's where I stand in it.
I think this is the biggest game in six years.
I can't speak to before I got here, but I can say that in the time, in the five years I've been here,
this is big as it as it's been. We'll throw it to break. Second hour, one-on-one, coming up.
