Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the Coppull Chevrolet GMC Studios. Here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Happy Friday, everybody. Appreciate you hanging out. As we head into the weekend, it's a little bit brisk, a little bit chilly outside. That's okay. We'll heat it up from the inside.
Starting point is 00:00:33 That's what we're going to do in the next three hours. Quite a bit. We'll have later in the old school, Brett Baker from Hotlands. Make his presence known and felt. We'll do that. You can reach out to us, 402-4644-5-6-85. On the Lincoln Hotline, you can call into the Sartreheimer Textline you can text in to. And you can follow us on the live video stream.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Facebook, YouTube, Twitch. Do it. Do it. Find yourself in there. A couple of things as we get started, and this is Friday, and so we like to make smiles on Friday. So have at it. Text me.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Give me with a What's Up DP, and then text. Somebody that you think deserves share that. A couple of ways to do that. You can do the nominations here on the text line. The preference is that you go to the ticketfm.com, and as you pull up the page, there will be a BIS. Petrus Bakery button for you to click. And you can tell the story.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Because it's one thing to make spouses when we want to do that. But I also want to tell the stories of why said person deserves to be applauded, cheered, celebrated, acknowledged, or a teacher, first responder, doctor, lawyer, coach, student athlete, neighbor, with a good heart, mentor, have at it. Just go to the ticketfm.com, hit the nominations tab, and send them in. And about the course of the next three hours,
Starting point is 00:02:13 we will do something cool. But in the next hour, I will pick somebody. And we'll do that first. At least we will do that. Our friends at Beatrice's Bakery have an item that they want featured today. And this one is, a little bit more of a butter-based cake, fruit cake, right? Moist, buttery, more nuts in the actual,
Starting point is 00:02:46 and of course they've got the humongoid cherries at the top of it. So Mark, Mark Arn-Wan is going to slice it up. He's refrigerated, which is what we request, what we request to do, what we suggest you do is refrigerated. for a bit. Give it about an hour or two in there and let it settle. Nick, what are we watching on ESPNU?
Starting point is 00:03:10 We are watching the Norm Stewart Classic. Okay. It's just one of the regular season tournaments that they invite high schools to. And Grand Island, led by Virginia Sinney, Isaac Trout. Say it again. Grand Island
Starting point is 00:03:27 led by Virginia Signy. Tiny. I think, yeah, I knew that was the point, but I had to make, I had to make you wait for a second. That's the part I was, that's the part I was going. Yeah, so they go down to Columbia, Missouri, and they're playing in a little tournament or a game against Vashon, high school from Missouri. Is Vichon actually a school, or is this? They are. I believe they are. It's an actual school. Yes. Like, they didn't, they didn't, it's not like a, nah. They didn't get together in a, in a van. I hope not. I hope not. But no, they're six and O, Grand Islands, oh, and two early on in the season, but they're tied 33 apiece. Yeah, as they head to the end of the third quarter. So there's that.
Starting point is 00:04:03 We also, I can tell you, from Beatrice's bakery again, we're going to thank them for allowing us to be messengers and delivery people for them. But they have, I dove into sampling last night. Oh, that's a long road to get down. Oh, my goodness. So I wanted to try to, so to have the strawberry deck and I wanted to, so I got ice cream. that scoop of ice cream put it in a bowl separate and
Starting point is 00:04:33 just going slice for slice. So the strawberry daughery surprised me in a good way. Yeah. Like I was, I expected it to be good, but I didn't I didn't
Starting point is 00:04:47 expect it to you know kind of make your eyes go big and go, hmm, yeah. I go, oh, all right then. And then there was the lemon drop. Okay. It's a lemon drop. It's the infusion.
Starting point is 00:05:01 I haven't had the lemon drop yet. But I've talking to people, I needed to do the lemon drop. Another one that surprised me with the ice cream, similar to you and the strawberry dacri was the Pinia colada one. Yeah. Yeah, this was a problem. That was the eye opener. Yeah, and I was mentoring some kids this morning.
Starting point is 00:05:22 But the teachers, teachers, I was like, well, you know, I've got one slice. I've got all these one slice cake, right? I just clipped it in and tried it just so I know what I'm talking about. Yeah. And the teachers were like, oh, well, this is what you call a Friday. Now you're cooking. And amongst teachers, so two of the teachers really like the key lime pie cake. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:47 With the vanilla ice cream. And it was pretty exceptional. One of the guide teachers made like a Sunday, a root beer float. and then had the lemon drop cake. And he was all about it. Yeah, he was all about it. One of his, one of the other teachers did it with, not the lemon drop, but the vanilla rum.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Okay. That would have a better combination. The vanilla rum, but then he had the, he had the Hershey's chocolate syrup that he put on the ice cream. Okay. And I'm like, okay, so now I'm like, you're intrigued. I'm sugar drunk, right, at this point.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Like, I'm fully at a sugar buzz list, not only from sampling, but having them like, okay, so you know what happens when you get a bunch of adults with stuff that taste good? Here, taste this. Like, here's my concoction. Taste this. So after about seven different tastes of seven different things, you go, ooh-wee. Like, you know, and you're trying to take small bites. You try. except for, you know, teachers.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Teachers, if they're going to feed you, they want, like, big scoops of everything. I know you, DP, too. Right. Like, I was. I know. Don't be passing this along to the teachers saying they're taking the big scoops. I was trying, right, to behave. But, come on.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Come on. Like, when they put banana with the vanilla rum. So they actually had slices of banana and strawberry. So this teacher who was really super healthy. But she was like, okay, this is my cheat. This is my cheat, right? But that was with the strawberry dacre with sliced strawberries and banana and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Oh, boy. You're giving me a lot of ideas to try over the weekend. Oh, boy. Like it was, it was something, right? So it's been pretty interesting. Where's Mark? I don't know. I was going to ask you this.
Starting point is 00:07:57 He brought the cake in. and then bounce, man. Yeah. He unwraps it and everything. Right. It starts to make the room smell good. Well, and he's, right, and he's the guy, right? He's the, he's the, he's the dessert connoisseur.
Starting point is 00:08:09 And he's the guy whose opinion we need, like, more than my own. There he is. Yeah, more than my own, you know, I didn't need my opinion. I need Mark's opinion of this. So we were sitting through again. So this morning, what you got was the strawberry, a slice of the strawberry Dackery Dackery Cake with fresh strawberries, sliced banana, scoop of vanilla ice cream. Where?
Starting point is 00:08:35 Yeah, this is what the teachers that I was mentoring this morning. Oh. Yeah. Thanks for the invite. You were busy. I can talk to teachers. I needed you here. I know a couple of teachers.
Starting point is 00:08:48 I needed you here to. So where does your wife teach? She doesn't. My mom teaches. My mom is a kindergarten teacher at Norris. She's at Norris. Norse. Okay. So what if we made Mom's Day by delivering a care package to Norse? Right? Yeah. Would that be? I'm sure the Norris kindergarten teachers would be very appreciative. Right. We'll put it in there in their teachers lounge. There you go. Kindergarten only though, all right. First grade, get your own. Make your own nomination. We'll let them fight. So folks, I mean, you can you can nominate somebody. You go, again, just go to the ticketfm.com and go to the website and the, the,
Starting point is 00:09:27 buttons right there for Beatrice's bakery. You can nominate somebody. And I'm just telling you the different sample sizes, the one teacher who made a, like a rupeer float with a vanilla rum. Oh, genius. Right. Like I was just, okay. Well, they were, like, these are smart folks, right?
Starting point is 00:09:44 So they understand science and the things that will go well together. And I was just sitting there in awe. Like, wow, this is, I'm going to be full. Because, you know, teachers, they like feeding you. Oh, yeah. Yeah, for sure, for sure. They like doing that. So it's not that much different than a radio station. Like the food is the highlight of the day.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Oh, there's no question. Yeah. There's no question. So, but we wanted to live sample this wonderful concoction. Yeah. So this was, this was Rick came in today from Beatrice's bakery and he said, I don't know why I hadn't thought of this. Well, I haven't had you guys try this before.
Starting point is 00:10:21 This is our ye old English fruit and nutcake. but it's made without any of the liquor. So it's a completely different thing. The other one, it's got bourbon, it's got brandy, it's got rum. Their main grandma's fruit cake. Lots of bourbon and brandy and rum. It all cooks off. But it leaves a lot of flavor behind.
Starting point is 00:10:42 This one's made without any of that. So if you're a student who is not yet of age, Nicholas. Nick, that is me. You can enjoy this one without all those yucky liquor flavors. I hate him You guys are kind of putting me on a spot here a little bit He also said that of his staff I didn't say anything
Starting point is 00:11:03 I didn't say anything Of his staff About 40% of them would prefer this one anyway You know so So taste to differ You know he said it's just It's a different experience in the regular one So I've got both of them
Starting point is 00:11:14 I've got slices of their regular grandma's fruitcake And then slices of the Grandma's Ye old English fruitcake Yee oh Interesting It looks more cakey Yeah Yeah
Starting point is 00:11:27 It looks more cakey Are you both taking I sure am Yeah Okay Yeah It's definitely more cakey And more nutty
Starting point is 00:11:36 Yeah You cut it open And so it started Making the studio smell Mm-hmm You're welcome Definitely Wow
Starting point is 00:11:47 Definitely Mmm He said He said there's definitely More nuts In this one Yeah So if you're a nut guy
Starting point is 00:11:53 This might be up your alley Still got The cherries in there I'm in and he recommended I asked him Does it need to be cold? He said well it doesn't need to be
Starting point is 00:12:05 Like some of the others Need to be But this one's Definitely better cold This is cheating actually I like I like this one More than the grandma's right Yeah I will say this right now
Starting point is 00:12:16 I like this one a lot better than that one Right Why Reginald it tastes like Christmas cake Right I think it tastes like cookie dough. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Biggo. Yeah. It tastes like cookie dough. Maybe that's why I like it so much is because it's got that cakey more, you could taste, it tastes more like the cake batter. See, this is, I want to thank the folks of Lincoln and Beatrice for getting me to challenge my taste buds and the preconceived stuff that I have in my head about stuff like, I mean, folks, Dami Dami did the same thing, knocked it down.
Starting point is 00:12:51 I was like, I'll try it. This is really good. Wow Okay I might be in that 40% Right Yeah I might be in that 40%
Starting point is 00:13:07 Okay Rick Meyer Thank you You did your thing Ye old English Free cake Yeah I don't want to eat the rest of it Why
Starting point is 00:13:15 Because I want to save it There's more There's a whole cake Don't worry about it Perfect There's a whole cake I know what I know what Jay does When he gets in here
Starting point is 00:13:21 Though I don't know how to put it back in the package So we got to eat it all I kind of with Neanderthal on it And you know what? We need to put a carrot packers together for Brett Baker. Okay. Yeah, perfect. I think he deserves
Starting point is 00:13:34 it for driving through. We'll let him choose his his poisons over there. Let him go cake shopping. Yeah. I would, I would recommend this to him. I would This is unexpected. Yeah. Right? Like, where? I really I did not think ye old
Starting point is 00:13:50 English fruit cake was going to be my jam, but I am in on this. Yeah. Now I is this this is tea we need tea oh yeah oh yeah it's got a little bit of like the the you know the little pecan twirl thing you know the little pecan twirls no you never had those have no shocker i'd love to bring one pigan trolls are they like the little thing like little things they're in like a little circle they're like cinnamon buns no idea turled with little You're just talking like a caramel roll?
Starting point is 00:14:29 It's like a honey bun? It's It's It's A Honey bun A little sprinkles
Starting point is 00:14:39 A crush You went High clap You put some Peacons on top Well he's like It's a little circle thing And I'm like
Starting point is 00:14:47 Oh it's a honeybun You've never seen The Pekin Charles You've never seen I'm guessing I'm just not calling it The same thing you are Because
Starting point is 00:14:53 I think that's actually Their name Well probably Boy, I'm not saying I call things right. Pekin Turles. And my favorite thing to do was to, like, you start, you peel the outside. Oh, they're like a little Debbie thing? It looks like a honey bun.
Starting point is 00:15:07 And you, no. Okay, not necessarily a honey bun, but similar size. Right. And as you just eat, you eat around it. Interesting. And you peel off, like, some people just, like, the real savages, just biting them a lot of it. Yeah, that's me. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:23 But the refined folks, unpeel it. Like you unwind it and eat it. It looks like a cinnamon roll without frosting. Uh-huh. Well, yeah. Probably doesn't taste like a cinnamon roll, though. It tastes like this. Yeah, that's very good.
Starting point is 00:15:39 They did well. Holy smokes. They didn't keep in secrets from it. Apparently. And then he said that there's another one that's even more nuttier than this one. And then he said that there's, they have a macadamia nut. Macadamia pineapple. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Oh. have you had that's next on the list so there's the turtle nut we've had that turtle nuts that's very good turn that bomb have you had the which one which this this beats turtle nut because it has that has that hint of hint of you know what but turtle nuts got we might need it we might need to try the turtle nut again bring him you want me bring a ball bring him bring him in bring him we'll spend the entire hour eating j can do the hot wings we'll be over here with our cakes full laughing laughing no I you know what tough because the turtle nut does have a little chocolate. Right? Which is cheating.
Starting point is 00:16:30 That's what I'm saying. I wonder if they... Wow. You want some Hershey sauce to drizzle on there? That would be insane. I will say, I have noticed that the fruitcakes taste a heck of a lot better when they are cold. Yes. Yes. So, please. Please. If you can. If you can. Yeah, if you can, please refrigerate them. And now they have one that they're showcasing.
Starting point is 00:16:54 and a new fancy tin. Oh, yeah, the holiday tins? The holiday tens are coming. I'm trying to push them towards having a go big red cake. Oh. Right, with a full tin. Although this one's, he said it's going to be in a box, like a wooden box sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Oh, that's fancy. Okay, okay. And we'll have some of those to give away for the holidays as well. But, yeah, I was pretty surprised by it. I went, okay, so you're cheating. Like, you're just, you're just not even sharing. Yeah, it's, it's nice to have all that in your back pocket that you can just say, oh, you haven't even tried this one yet.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Yeah. Oh, you haven't even tried this one yet. Yeah, sounds like Mark Rondweiler. Have you looked at my menu? Yeah, we're going to do that. We're going to get into all this, but this is, okay, they surprised me. Yeah, I didn't even, I didn't even dig into the other one. This, I don't need to.
Starting point is 00:17:52 This would be, but understand. So because it's got no alcohol in it, this will be the one, like, put this on your table and let the kids, kids will be the happiest kids in the neighborhood. Oh, this is so good. I still like the alcohol, though. I'm not surprised by that. Now, I'm back into 60%. It's just one I had last. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:16 That's really what it's become. Travis just came in. Can we get Travis? Get Travis. and have him. This is, like, I'm actually surprised. Yeah. It's really light.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Like, I mean, I'm really surprised by it. It's very, very light. Oh, come on, get up here, Travis. Go up here. Get up here. Introduce yourself. Smile at the camera. Smile at the camera.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Oh, I don't have that camera on. I put it on him. Put the camera on this. When you got that kind of good hair, put it on. put Travis on it. We got to do that. Travis, introduce yourself,
Starting point is 00:19:01 man. Tell everybody who you are. My name is Travis Taylor. I'm brand new with the company here for her sales. So you're going to have to get used to this microphone. I know. It's been a minute. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:13 You know, I mean, your microphone had days in the past. Yeah. I was on the microphone. Right. Stage in a crowd of people. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:19 I need to make sure. So tell the people. So you're local. You're from here. Yes, sir. Tom, way from, where you went to school?
Starting point is 00:19:25 So I was born here. I lived a little bit of time in Tucson, Arizona, actually, and I spent a little time in Atlanta, Georgia as well. So I have family down there. Worked down there for a while with my uncle and that sort of thing. But went to Lincoln Northeast, grew up, three-sport athlete, wrestling baseball and football. Now I'm just a dad and happily married and working and doing sports with the kids. and taking care of them on a regular. Yeah, you're coaching too, right? What's that? Coaching too, right? Coaching kids, yeah, yep.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Here's the thing. Travis used to be in a band. There was a day, yes. Telefolks, man. Come on. So it was just not so much a band, but my brother and I kind of found out that one could sing,
Starting point is 00:20:22 and one was kind of decent in hip-hop. And so we did a soul R&B mix together, acoustic type hip hop, and performed a lot locally and did well for a long while. And my brother actually is still working on it today, getting ready to possibly release an album here in the near future. So that's something we're excited for. Which one were you? Were you the singer or the hip-hop?
Starting point is 00:20:48 I was the singer. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I'm seeing more Travis karaoke I like it That's what I star at today
Starting point is 00:21:01 So I'm the karaoke king I'll just go ahead I'll just go and turn my mic off And let you have it Yeah this is big This is big So now it's a singer So we may be able to put some things together here now
Starting point is 00:21:14 Mark might have to collaborate This may be the best day ever Let's get it done This may be the best day ever I am now fully engaged. Hang on. I did show choir in high school. He was on stage with 50 cents.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Like, let's be real here. We're on different levels. All right. Hey, I did choir too, though. Okay. You progressed. I stopped. So what was the name of said duo?
Starting point is 00:21:42 So it started out as as Hidden Hollow. Okay. It kind of progressed over time being that I was, a dad and father and my brother had more time to kind of, to, you know, continue with the music and press the music that we ran just by a name of Cleve Trev. However, down the way, we found out, you know, not being the business folks that we were and learning the business that there was, you know, somebody that was a music producer somewhere else that had that name.
Starting point is 00:22:15 We had to kind of change from that, and we kind of just started running by our own personal names down the road so it let the folks know what you're doing here and how they can reach you so i i'm here you know to be a new part of the station to help the station grow um to help companies in the in the community i want to you know help help new businesses strive i want to help businesses that have been around continue to build their brands i want to i want to make the community grow in lincoln and that's kind of why i'm here because i i'm you know was brosinesses i'm you know was brosven brought in, obviously, by Rebecca and yourself. And to just make the company here and the station grow and make other businesses grow.
Starting point is 00:22:58 And that's what I think we're kind of about here at the ticket. So we are thrilled to have you. I love all your energy. You're a former athlete. So we have the common language and the common interest. We are going to introduce you to this ye old England nut cake. I'm in. we were we've all been surprised and you and you can be totally honest in this but i i was
Starting point is 00:23:25 surprised like i destroyed mine and nick destroyed his mark yeah we're all i just tried the fruit cake the other one with alcohol rick made him you know it is it is it is what they say it is trust me yeah so he took a grown man bite yeah he took half of that he took the grown yeah we're all belly patters we're all belly patterns in this room this is how those works what's your thought that's delicious yeah yeah i was surprised it is more it carries yeah almost as much flavor as the one with the alcohol too so so there's something for everybody we did get a text how about a care package to the fedex express employees that are out delivering all the holiday packages and missing out on family time
Starting point is 00:24:12 hit me with the information we need somebody give us somebody in particular that we could get this to, of course, Taylor, who he's always out here. He was out there delivering for the first couple of years that I was here. But if you have somebody that you want to recommend, give me specifics, who they are, named phone number, and a company or an address that we can reach them so that we can actually have this thing delivered to them, or you can come by and pick them up if you choose to do that. And it's going to be pretty exceptional.
Starting point is 00:24:43 And now we know we have another thing to add to the box because that's pretty good. Travis, welcome to the squad, brother. Thank you. It's plenty here. Mark, like I said, I'm stunned. I'm stunned. That was not going to be. Yeah, I thought it was going to be fruitcake light.
Starting point is 00:24:58 It's not. Nope. It's not. Nope. That's just a cake with fruit in it. It's entirely different. We'll throw it the break. When we come back to one-on-one, we'll go through the weekend and we'll set up
Starting point is 00:25:09 4 o'clock because we've got a pretty big day around here at the station. You listen to 1-1-9-37-the-ticket. Download our app by searching 93.7 the ticket. in your app store. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 937 the Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
