You're listening to One-on-One with DP.
Presented by Beatrice Bakery on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back to one-on-one.
I'm here with Rick Meyer from Beatrice Bakery.
Their show's sponsor, and they have a grand opening of a new store location in Beatrice.
Saturday morning.
The festivities will begin.
Nick will be there at 9 broadcasting the high school show from there.
We'll go to about 1230.
They'll be the ribbon cutting is at 945.
We'll be live.
Jay Forman will be there.
Other hosts and on-air talent will be there.
Free raffles.
So, you know, you could just show up and win stuff.
Or you can just show up and sample stuff.
Or you can just come and drink coffee.
It's an open invitation to Beatrice Bakery.
And you could, will there be tours available?
Can folks kind of walk through and see the facility?
Is that possible?
possible? Yeah, I'll take them through. I would take them through.
Yeah. I'd have to do it in groups.
Yeah. But yeah. Yeah. And it's, Nick, you need to, yeah, yeah, yeah. Keep him away from the barrels.
He's only 20, but he's also, I think he's a closet alcoholic. You see the look on his face when he said that?
Like, just he's giving it away. You see how they treat me here? They put labels on me before they even know me.
I'm just looking out for you.
I don't want, I don't want the drama.
I'll take him in there with long as you were a shock collar.
You get close?
Get close.
I think maybe get him on the, on the, on the, on the line.
Teach him how to make these cakes.
Put him to work.
Oh, that'd be fun.
I would do that.
We could videotape it.
Put him to work.
Oh, I'd be in.
Make him clean the machines after.
Oh, no, not clean.
Oh, oh, come.
I would make that, make it.
Them ladies will destroy you.
I'm sure they would.
It's a pretty.
ridiculous process. I'm sure it is.
I'm serious. So he took me, we went into the factory
and there's a part where the pecans are being
separated. They do it by hand.
Really? They have to meet standard.
And they separate. And how many pecans would you say
a day? What pounds? How many pounds?
If I had to guess, probably a thousand pounds a day, probably
right? And they're sort of, they come off this conveyor
and the women are like,
they're like swiping it by hand.
They're like, nope, nope, you don't make the list.
And immediately I thought Willie Wonka, right?
Like, it's just, nope, not good enough, not big enough, not perfect.
Like, and I'm just watching these women fly through this.
And I'm just going, this is remarkable.
That's fantastic.
No, I will definitely, if you guys allow it, I will definitely try it out at 10 after my show.
Oh, I will fail.
Oh, I will fail.
I'll take a rain check because they're not producing on Saturday.
That's fine.
There you go.
That's totally fine.
I will.
You'll understand that they have a feel.
They can feel it when it's right and when it's wrong.
That's fantastic.
It's pretty amazing.
Like I said, and then when Nick, what do we do?
Do we have to worry about him eating all of the, like, the alcohol-infused cakes being he's 20?
We don't have to worry about that.
No.
Okay.
No.
Because he's going to live in your sample room.
That'll be the whole first segment.
It's just, okay, I'm coming in for the.
That really should be the first segment.
It probably will be the first 10, 15 minutes.
Yeah, you won't be alone, trust me.
Cool.
Yeah, you're more than welcome to hang out.
I was like, so you know the, you know the GIF, the meme with Winnie the Pooh sitting at the table,
wiggling and smiling and hitting the table because he's ready to eat.
That was me in their tasting room.
Fantastic.
That was me in the tasting room.
It was like, oh, this is amazing.
And I'm just going, okay, and I was upset because then I had samples, but I didn't have the whole cakes.
I didn't want to feel like I could just walk out of there.
It was like 8K.
Yeah.
So I get a little napkin and I'm folding up pieces so I can take him with him.
And there's some old guy who came who was just walking off the street.
And he's looking at me and I've got the three samples in a napkin.
And he goes, we can do that?
I'm like, yeah, yeah, go ahead.
He goes, cool.
We got you.
We got you.
It's awesome.
It was pretty exceptional.
Once again, for the duration of the hour, get your nominations in.
and we will honor them.
Go to the ticketfm.com or you can just text them on the text line.
If there's somebody that's having a good day, bad day, in between day,
need an add a boy, add a girl.
You want to make them smile.
Now, if you're looking for like an anniversary gift,
go to the website.
Go to beatricebacery.com.
Just go.
Plenty of stuff on there.
There's enough cake on there to really just there's something, whatever.
When people come in the station and I take their,
and that's officially changed from the sales office to the cake room.
And the athletes that come in, they just stand there and get dizzy.
Because it's like, there's so much cake.
All right.
You'll have a dilemma.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So we can do that.
And I also say, if you can get to the station before 4 o'clock,
we may be able to find a cake for you.
Just might.
Yeah, before 4 o'clock.
But you've got to do it before 4 o'clock.
smiles are made here that's what we want when you care think beatrice bakery that's what we want
to have that happen um so we met norey last night he came in with on on the weeknight with
uh nicole griffin and connor happer immediately he punches me and he goes i'm friends with the
meyers you were telling the story that he and dill and her buddies yeah they they became friends
the minute nore he came to the united states and went to norris and yeah i remember
remember the two things that he said to Norrie.
And that was one, who you like and who you don't like at Norris.
We're going to line them up.
We're going to line them up with those two.
Yeah.
Look, man, this is, that's a, that's an interesting young man.
Very interesting.
You know, you have, you have stories.
Give us one.
Talk to us about Norrie.
You know, I had a little bit of a difficult time with Norrie when he was a senior because
I had to take pictures of my son during prom, and his date was Norrie.
It looked like the jolly green giant and the midget.
And you know, Dylan's a big dude.
I know, and Nori's enormous.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, I think we were talking about it.
Connor was talking about it last night and said that the Nori might be the only pretty much guaranteed starter
on that offensive line next year?
Yeah, he's a worker.
Right?
That we know who the left guard is
and we may not know anything else.
That's pretty amazing
for a kid that's been on the journey
that he's been on, right?
Yeah, adversity makes him hungry.
I can tell you that.
Give the folks a little of his journey
from your advantage.
Who is the young man?
Norie probably is
one of the purest,
biggest-hearted individuals at that age when I first met him genuine
probably one of the top five young men I've ever met
he just loves life I mean to walk into to walk on to Nebraska
when he had other options right yeah to walk on and then earn the scholarship
and then earn the starting job that takes some gumption that takes a
whole lot of being mature and rock solid.
Where does it come from?
I would only have to guess that it comes from his parents.
Nori believes in himself because Nori believes in doing the right thing.
And Nori isn't the one that's going to run around.
I think they use the word drip today.
Drip and talking about how great he is.
Nori wants to be great so other people look at him and say,
a good person. That's not Norie, the big football player. That's Big Ann, who's just such a nice
guy and does good things for people. Yeah, that's the thing. And we talked and, you know,
I think we have some projects to do together. And I'm looking forward to that from the tech line.
Tell Ricky, his cousin Travis says, Robin is the glue and where is my Merlot cake?
What's up, T?
Yeah, the chocolate, we didn't have mentioned the chocolate Merlot.
Yes, that's the gymnastics team's favorite, just for the record.
It is as advertised for sure.
Taylor says, I can confirm that the chocolate rum cake is transcendent.
Yeah, he came in, he came in Friday, brought his dog in, so of course, you know, I was in heaven.
I got to play with dog, and so he took some cake out of here.
Brother, I'm telling you, when people get their first taste of it, it's like, what is going on?
This is different.
You've gone through a thing that I want to help people with,
and I try to help people with as much as possible,
that the whole recruiting process for parents
who are just unfamiliar, right?
What's the biggest eye-opener for you
about getting a high school student athlete
into the college of their choice,
doing what it is they want to do?
I think the biggest eye-opener is you think you know
and you don't know.
you think you're depending on other
entities whether it be high school coaches
or your trainer or whatever it is
that they're going to lead it down the right path
for the right reasons and they know
they can tell you they don't know
and I'm not trying to be disrespectful
and just being honest that that's the biggest thing
like to go through if there was any student athlete
in the state of Nebraska last year
who should have had an easy recruiting process
it was Dylan Meyer
He checked all of the boxes.
All of them.
And I didn't understand why he wasn't getting the attention that I felt like he deserved.
And there are several athletes in the state, and even in this local area,
who don't get recruited at the level that I think that they should,
as you say, from 10,000 feet, you know, above,
I'm looking down and I'm going, wait, but if I'm familiar,
and you know what a thing looks like to,
in my mind, I like to dive in and go, okay, there's needs of way for this to happen.
So what is your recommendation for any parent out there whose child is going through the recruiting
game and they just don't know where to turn?
Well, I believe it's not any different than you can say you can fix your sink.
But if you can't fix your sink, you better go, you know, follow somebody that knows, that knows how.
And so my recommendation is don't, again, do your research, be a student and learn and follow what's working and what isn't working.
And if you still don't know, you've got to find somebody that'll help you.
They'll put that thing in place in perspective for it.
And there's lots of people out there that'll help out of the kindness of their heart.
Yeah, man.
Jay Foreman's on his way here.
What do you have to say about Jay Foreman?
I love Mr. Foreman.
And the biggest reason I do, and he has many qualities,
Jay don't apologize for being honest.
Jay is what he is.
And that's what I respect the most about him.
Yeah, it was, you know, you had your family stop by Mercado.
They're like, where's Jay?
And she says, I'm a Meyer.
I'm his mother-in-law.
That's a magic question.
Where is Jay?
Where is Jay?
It's spectacular.
Listen, I will say it again.
