Starting point is 00:00:00 3 o'clock we're here to serve lots to bring in simple deal you guys know the routine 402 468 565 if you want to add to the show add if you have comments if you have questions get those things in place and you know how to reach out on the starter ham and text line or call into the hondo lincoln hotline you can follow the live video stream as well on facebook youtube twitch you see what's going on in studio um what i say happen Happy Tuesday, that's the place I'm working from. Happy Tuesday. I want good things to happen for you.
Starting point is 00:00:39 If you can hear this, I want something good to happen for you today. If it has already happened, congratulations. If it hasn't, congratulations in advance. That's the space that I'm in. And there are people who become angels on earth and decide that they're going to make things better for folks around them. And for folks they don't even know, that's what doing those good things are about, is that you reach people that you don't, you're not even going to meet.
Starting point is 00:01:10 One of those people started out as a friend, now he's family. And I'll bring in somebody that's helped make my landing in Lincoln comfortable, makes me feel like I'm connected. and also makes sure I've got my people here. Let's bringer Rick Meyer from Beatrice Bakery. Kind, sir. How the heck are you? I'm good.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Thank you for having me. There's lots to this and to be sure. And as a matter of fact, a lot of this is just an accumulation of good people trying to do good things. And over the course of months, we've shared several things personal and otherwise that indicate that like-hearted people can do some pretty amazing things when they put their minds and thoughts to it and then their actions.
Starting point is 00:02:07 And your actions have been loud. You have been the anonymous angel that's making a lot of folks in this community have better days. And there aren't enough Rick Myers in the world, but I'm glad there's one. And you're appreciated. And I want to say it on air that I appreciate what, One, what you're helping this station do, two, what you're allowing me to do personally.
Starting point is 00:02:31 And third, for the people in this community that you're reaching by simple gestures of making sure that they have something that puts a smile on their face that day, we need more people in this community who step up and want to allow those things to happen. So, kind sir, thank you for allowing Beatrice Bakery to be a part of what we do and how we do it. Well, thank you. Thank you for what you do for everybody as well. Well, this is why we're here. And contrary to some people's opinions, this is not a meeting place for anger and venom. Like, there's enough places for that, right? There just is.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And I want to read, just so you understand how deep this runs. We got this one today where we said, let's do something for everybody every day. And you said, I know exactly how. Let's put the product out. Let's allow people to receive something. And the product wasn't good. We wouldn't be doing it. But the product is good, and the people are responding to it.
Starting point is 00:03:33 I got a message today, and I want to make sure I find it. And again, folks can nominate folks for these care packages by going to the Ticketfm.com and filling out, as soon as you go to the website, there's a tab that allows you, and it says Beatrice Bakery, you can nominate people who have had a good day, a bad day, in-between day, folks who have something big. coming up or something they just went through. And as friends and family, we nominate one another and we deal with those things.
Starting point is 00:04:00 But this came from John West. He says, yeah, I want to nominate the Scott Middle School teachers. And he says, Scott Middle School, three different teachers had had fathers pass away in the last couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:04:16 It would be a small gesture to help cheer them up. Now, because of our relationship, we get to reach out to those folks and say you're not going through it by yourself you're not going through it alone the community sees you and hears you we know about you we acknowledge you we hope this little small thing makes your day a little better than that that is a powerful thing that you've done it's the right thing you know to think of this right that through all of the stories that we hear from on a week to week basis and i'll nick and i will work on making sure it
Starting point is 00:04:55 we get you those stories each week. So you can see what your company is doing for this community. And then you want to expand in that. And it's pretty cool to watch the process, watch you guys grow into what you do. So let's go back and tell the original story, Grandma's Fruitcake. What is all this about?
Starting point is 00:05:20 Talk to me about what Beatrice Bakery is all about. I think it's never changed from 100 years ago. You have a group of really, really good people who really believe in bringing joy. And it aligns right because a lot of the fruitcake stigma is when do you have a fruit cake? Well, you have a fruitcake during the holidays. And when is the time that most people give the most during the holidays? As we've continued to grow, the giving and the remembering, you know, what builds great things is giving back and surrounding yourself with good people. There's very few bad people in this world, but sometimes we get caught up and forget about the most important thing.
Starting point is 00:06:17 And that's giving just a gift. That part of it, right, when we talk about the season, everybody talks about the holiday season. There are people who get left out. They're people who are disconnected. And we're trying to provide opportunities each day, several times in some days, where we can just have those people reach out and say, hey, listen, I'm having a crappy day.
Starting point is 00:06:48 That's all we need to hear. We can make it a little better. Like, we can't fix everything, but we certainly can make it a little better. So from that, we jokingly arrived to, you know, fruitcake slander, right? People that just, like, and you tried to pitch me on it.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Like, yeah, but this isn't it. I turned my nose up and I went, come on. Come on. And then you took me to the, look, your factory is like, it's my current Willy Wonka's back chocolate factory. Because to walk through the factory and see the people who have been there forever,
Starting point is 00:07:22 doing the work that they love, for people that they care about knowing that the product they put out will make somebody's day better. Let's talk about the people. that work at Beatrice's Bakery. Who are they? It is absolutely the most important thing. That group at Beatrice Bakery, the team, is the reason all of this happens.
Starting point is 00:07:44 You can give something in kindness, but when it's made in kindness, when every day somebody's doing something with pride, because the end result is we, you know, we want somebody to be happy with, with what it is they do they they they they have a uh the the people up in production that make all this they have a saying that is we bake this with love and they truly mean that it's it's deep and i think that's a lot of the reasons why you know the turnover ratio is so low
Starting point is 00:08:21 when you have people that three generations that have worked there and you have people that have been there over 40 years and say I'm going to go 50 because this is my home away from home. That's all you need. When you have that, everything else just falls in line. We did the tour and walking through
Starting point is 00:08:44 and you took us behind the scenes and it's kind of like walking, you know, seeing behind the curtain, you know, wizard-a-lized curtain. You see how things really move. And then we walk into a room at Nick Wu, there's a certain place in it where you walk into this room
Starting point is 00:08:57 and there are these barrels, these ginormous barrels. They're my favorite barrels. Oh, my goodness gracious. Like, we went in it and I said, okay, I don't know what's in these barrels, but this is home for me. Like, this is home for me. Beatrice's Bakery is the number one purchaser of alcohol in the entire state, right? Correct.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Like, I just wanted to tap the barrel and put an IV in and let it go to work, right? Because it's all there. And he goes, no, it's in the cake. I was like, oh, okay, okay. I thought maybe this was like a party. Like I thought this was a party zone. Like this is where this is. He's used barrels.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Let the folks know what's in those barrels and why. Well, it's alcohol, man. That's why I like it. It's anywhere from bourbon, rum, brandy, vodka. And that's what we make a lot of our product with. But not all of it. But not all of it. No.
Starting point is 00:10:00 those products that have those in there, it creates a high quality, a long shelf life. It's a good profile to create some of the tastes that are out there. And the nice thing is you can serve it to anybody at any age because all that alcohol is baked out. But the combination stays. Yeah, we're all for the combination. Cubsker on the Techland says, what's up, D.P. Just want to let you know my FedEx coworkers absolutely love the, Beatrice Bakery Care Package that we received and wanted to thank you and the person who
Starting point is 00:10:34 nominate us. Now, we also need to add Rick and Beatrice Baker to that because they showed up and allowed us to do that. So that's, but those are the kind of texts that we get on a regular basis. There's another text from Jake says, my friend, does the baker have any plant-based options? I know some folks needing a pick-me-up, but if they can't have milk or eggs, what would you say to that?
Starting point is 00:10:54 That's in process. We're working on that. obviously anytime you produce a dessert it adds a little bit of degree of difficulty when you're using things outside of what normally is made in a dessert yeah but we're listening and we're working on it as we speak yeah you are you guys are busy you guys are in the lap talking to rick mire from uh beauch's bakery and a lot of this for me the surprise and shock was okay i was about the grandma's fruit cake
Starting point is 00:11:29 but then then you flip the script and you tricked me you tricked me because I went down into your tasting area and there was strawberry daisy cake
Starting point is 00:11:39 and you started laughing you got the smile that you had on your face right now because you're like pretty good isn't it and then the lemon drop cake
Starting point is 00:11:50 yeah look at them you're on air you're on the radio Rick they're all calling you to let you know you're on the radio I see you on the radio I'm awake.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Go through the products outside of the fruit cake. What are the things that you guys offer? And my goodness gracious, it's a pretty good list. I hope I can remember. There we go. So we have a liqueur line that ranges anywhere from a key lime to a lemon drop to to strawberry, acary to a collua for the coffee lovers, to breakfast breads and strusels.
Starting point is 00:12:24 really just a vast combination of a lot of different flavors that people every day enjoy. There's something for everybody. Basically, yeah. There's something for everybody. I mean, you think about this. We had the lemon drop cake. We had the vanilla rum, the chocolate rum.
Starting point is 00:12:49 The nut cake is pretty exceptional. Like that's my current. Nick, fair to say, that's the favorite. That's your favorite. Yeah, that's his favorite. That's why we call it the turtle. Yeah. Turtle always wins the race.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Yeah, like it's just, we were surprised. And Nick, the look on his face, when he took the first bite, he kind of went, okay, this is, like you have in your head what this thing tastes like. And then you bite into it, you went, hmm, ha, ha, wait a minute, wait a minute, we're out of something here. And then you dropped the bomb on us. You dropped a bomb on us last week. because you brought in
Starting point is 00:13:24 what's it the ye old English yeah Y OE or E old English Yeah and what makes it different doesn't have any alcohol in it but we put a butter rum batter in it
Starting point is 00:13:38 it's kind of like eating a cookie dough with nuts and fruit in it it really again I was a bit of a skeptic and I bit into it and before I knew it I'd taken the slice and just devoured it. And we kept trying to figure out what the taste was.
Starting point is 00:13:55 And who was it that came up and said it was like Fing Newton on crack? Mark, so he goes, Fing Newton on crack. Like, this is crazy. So through all of the stuff and through some of the care packages, we have the difficulty of trying to match up what to send the nominee based on what the nomination is. And there are folks that say, well, we don't want alcohol. Okay. I know what to do.
Starting point is 00:14:19 I've got, I don't want nuts, but I want something else. Some people, they lean heavily towards chocolate. So anything chocolate, they're all in. It's been helpful to have the variety and being able to go up and down the list and let folks know what this thing is. And nobody ever sends them back. It's just, like, we don't get, it's pretty amazing. Oak Valley Husters, God bless you both,
Starting point is 00:14:48 and thank you for what you do for the community. that's the stuff that we get nila um stop by the station she says i need to try this beatrice bakery come get a sample here at the station and then you can i think you know what what what nila should do is she's got two little boys she should grab her two little boys and take the tour and go out and see the factory she has an invite yeah yeah we'll make that we'll make that happen yeah jakes horn just says fig newton that was his thing that was his thing We have an event Saturday. You guys have a new store, a new location.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Let us, let the folks know what's happening Saturday morning from 9 to noon. Due to the growth and as our products tend to grow in the movement, we wanted to make sure that we put together a hometown store. And on Saturday at 10 a.m., we're going to, going to have our grand opening of our new store. And we would love to have everybody that can possibly come, come and experience, obviously, not only our products, but more importantly, our culture.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Meet your people. Meet your people. We're going to broadcast from there. Nick will bring the morning to the high school show. He will kick it off at 9 o'clock and go from 9 to 10. Then myself, Jake Foreman, Mark, several of the other hosts, Jake will be out there. until noon we'll do
Starting point is 00:16:21 we'll do raffles we'll do giveaways we'll do all sorts of stuff the samples buffet is up and the coffee bar the coffee bar to go with the Kalua cake by design yeah yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:16:39 that's that's gonna that's gonna help I mean it really is so for folks that don't know Rick's son is Dylan Meyer who played at Norris Excel did his thing state runner up in wrestling,
Starting point is 00:16:54 best middle linebacker in the state. And your young man came in. You guys came in about a year ago. And I got to sit down and have a conversation with him and fell in love with the young man, to be quite frank, to have a young man represent the state the way that he does through all of his actions. He's a great athlete, but he's a better person,
Starting point is 00:17:16 which is a compliment to the household. I'll thank Mrs. Meyer later. You please do. We'll thank her for that. But this sports community and the high school sports, the way things are done here, what can this station do? I thought the high school show was important
Starting point is 00:17:35 to give voice to putting names in the community. Like giving these young men and women, giving value to their name, getting the stories out, because there's some really great stories. And not everybody goes to every media, outlet to get their news. So we should be a voice to, especially on the local level, to highlight guys like Dylan.
Starting point is 00:18:00 And we want to do a better job of it. But you as a parent, what do you need from stations like ours? Well, I think stations like yours and obviously a lot of other stations, you know, everybody gets caught up on the eye test. Everybody gets caught up on what's advertised. And the interesting thing that I find in all of it is sometimes the greatest stories are the ones that are unknown. And there's a lot of really, really good kids in this state that should be able to tell their story. And they don't get an opportunity to because, as we all know, we, you know, humans,
Starting point is 00:18:48 follow the commercial. They follow the advertisement. And we miss some of the greatest stories out there that fill our bucket. Well, it was a blessing for you guys to come into my life and to come into this space. I'll ask you this. Why, why us? Why 937 the ticket? Because you guys could advertise and do this anywhere.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Why us? Culture is number one. for me. It wasn't what 93-7 the ticket could offer, not offer. It was the ability to sit down at a 10,000-foot view and watch real. Watch where somebody really comes from, whether it's a putting a hat on because it's game time, or it's just real. And I believe this world needs more of that. I know one of the things that I respect a lot in the comments that you make, is I'm going to apologize ahead of time, but I'm not apologizing for being honest. And we absolutely deep.
Starting point is 00:19:57 He need more of that. I remember a conversation I had with you in the very beginning when we were talking about things. And I made the comment that I found it interesting in all the social medias, that the two things people gravitated towards was drama or mess and goodwill. and it gave me hope when I was following that because more people gravitated towards goodwill than the other
Starting point is 00:20:25 we need more goodwill and that's probably the biggest reason why I appreciate so much of this partnership because it's real and it's for the right reasons I will say thank you for each person that receives a smile
Starting point is 00:20:45 courtesy of Beatrice Bakery, for each person who reaches out, and I don't want to lose that, for the people who reach out and nominate these people who receive the smiles. Because it's that kind of consideration, that kind of thoughtfulness, that kind of kindness, which is necessary, that if we see a dark space, we address it. We rally and try to bring light to it and try to make it a little bit better. but I think Saturday will be a really cool opportunity.
Starting point is 00:21:18 And I will reiterate what Rick said. Saturday at Beatrice Bakery. It's 400 Bell Street in Beatrice. Come down, say hello, see the sites, take the samples, give hugs, give smiles, high fives. Please do. I think Saturday would be a great way for the community to come together. I think it'll be a great place.
Starting point is 00:21:43 a great way for you if you're not sure what to get folks as gifts. It's a really good idea. Nice place for it. But come down and meet the community, be a part of the community. And we're trying to create a space where folks who want to do well by one another can meet. Can greet up. You don't have to buy anything. Look, you decide to go shopping when you get there.
Starting point is 00:22:06 That's not it. I want you to come down and introduce yourself and be a part of it. I want you to come meet Rick. I want you to come meet the staff. I want you to come meet the radio personalities. Come down and say hi to us. Hit us with a what's up. Let us know that you're not there on accident.
Starting point is 00:22:22 You're there on purpose. And that you want to make it better. And so I think what we'll end up doing is I will take nominations on the text line. And I will take nominations through the website, ticketfm.com for the next hour. And we will do something for anybody. that nominates today because we have it and we should and I think that it would be a fair way for us to get you to lean in and get to know Beatrice Bakery because they're representing you all over the
Starting point is 00:22:55 world they're representing the state of Nebraska all over the world we wanted their exposure in Lincoln to go up but I think you are a great ambassador for Nebraska and what happens and I think it's necessary that we say so so thank you and I want to thank every single person that nominated every single person that got nominated because what sometimes people don't understand is you guys are you guys are filling our bucket at beatrice bakery we find such joy in hearing about it that we get our bucket full every single day because of it it's been pretty amazing yeah to watch humbling yeah it really is to go through this and be able to meet people and i've got emails now and saying listen thank you like i got the package and it
Starting point is 00:23:42 is a big deal. Nick gets to deliver sometimes. And people always surprised by gifting. And I want that to be the norm. Like, I want that to be a thing that we do on a regular basis. And because of our relationship with you, we get the opportunity to do that every day. And it makes it a little bit easier to get through difficult sports times because we get to distract with real people stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:10 You're born to love and care. It's not hard to learn. Man, sometimes. you have to have to have reminders. We'll throw it to break when we'll come back. I'm going to bring Rick back because I do want to talk a little bit more. He knows sports, so I want to pick his brain a little bit and have some fun. You listen to 101 on 927 the ticket.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Download our app by searching 93.7, the ticket in your app store. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 937 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
