Khan Martinez.
We'll bring in
Craig and Meyer
from Southeast Community College.
We've got an event
Discovery Days tomorrow
that we can talk about.
Things and community and such.
What that purpose is
and what it's all about.
But in the meanwhile, you know how to reach me,
402, 464.
565, the Sartre-Hammint Text line,
the Honda-Lincoln Hotline,
you can call in.
We'll get to Adrian Martinez.
today, I promise you.
You can check it out on the Sartre Haman live video stream, Facebook, YouTube Twitch.
Just to follow.
Hit me with a what's up DP on the text line.
We'll get to it.
And I understand the need and want to dive fully into all things.
Adrian Martinez, Nebraska football, Nebraska basketball, volleyball,
volleyball is the NCAA tournament.
and it is the NCAA tournament, and it probably should be talked about.
Plus, you're hosting.
So the fan base will have some impact on how this thing plays out.
So, yeah, I'm pretty sure you guys will show up in your best and loudest form for that.
Quite the interesting evening yesterday with Husker basketball for the men
and just an exceptional evening for the ladies.
A roadwind blowout.
It's good stuff.
down in Winston-Salem.
Lots to talk about
with men's basketball.
There's a lot to talk about
across the board.
But I want to say this.
I'm not going to spend time
bashing student athletes
for play.
I don't want to spend time
bashing student athletes
for decisions,
personal decisions.
personal decisions.
And then
turn your focus and your
directives towards the facts,
the numbers that exist.
And I know folks will go, well, geez,
you know, the wins and losses is a fact.
Yes, it is.
And you can talk about those things.
You can talk about those things
without talking about
the young man in a negative or pro way.
You can talk about the results.
And that's fair and valid.
A lot of people saying,
well, yeah, I'm thrilled to have him moving along.
You should also say why, because most of the reasons aren't valid.
If you want to get into the record, talk about the record.
But I also asked the question that who were the people involved
and how this transpire?
See, because the same people who will rally against Adrian Martinez as a player
will then protect the people who coached,
and led Mr. Martinez.
Look, I think you can very simply say in the easiest of forms that everybody, let's meet,
let's create a starting point for conversations.
Everybody wants better for Nebraska football.
Now, it's from that point that we can decide what we wanted to be.
And that still hasn't been determined.
It wasn't even determined this year.
Beginning season, this fan base wasn't quite sure what to expect.
or what it could ask for it.
Six wins enough?
Eight wins, seven, twelve?
What was expected?
Three?
I'll tell you that I didn't hear anybody say that three wins was enough.
Zero people.
Now there are people who thought three wins would happen,
but there are very few people who thought that was good enough.
And then you can have the next discussion was, okay, well, why did it happen?
And there are several reasons.
And then once you say it meant to and be honest about what the record is,
You can then have conversations about who's accountable for it and who's responsible for it.
So who's responsible for it?
And does it matter?
Because that's the second part of this.
The people who are paid to do the job should be the ones who throw themselves in front of traffic for all of this.
But for a fan base, and I've said this several times in the show, I'll say it again,
this fan base needs to be careful about what it tells people.
about who they are.
Be careful because you start telling people who you are.
They're going to start to believe you.
Recruits included.
And I can guarantee you this.
Zero, three, four, and five star athletes are going to look at Nebraska and say,
you know what, I want to come there and deal with a negative fan base.
I want to deal with angry, bitter, nasty fans.
That number is zero.
So check yourself.
Because people pay attention now.
Your comments are known.
They're seen.
Like this isn't anonymous anymore.
Zero recruits.
The ones that this fan base just clamors for.
They can see what you say about a dude who produced.
A dude who fought for you.
Now, you didn't get the results and you can say that.
You didn't win enough games.
Okay, cool.
then ask why.
And nobody has told me why.
Why was Adrian Martinez the way he was in those situations?
Everything taught or allowed.
So how did that happen?
Why did it happen?
Why is this program in a situation where a four-year starter
jumps into the transfer portal?
Answer, please tell me why.
How is that a good thing?
How is that a positive statement about the program?
That the best quarterback you had in the building for four years left the program.
I mean, there should be something to be said for loyalty,
and I'm told Nebraska fans are loyal,
but that doesn't seem very loyal to send somebody who's fought for you for four years out the door with kicking a pants.
It may be who you are.
I don't want to believe it.
I don't think you want people to think that's who you are.
So there's lots to be talking about.
So we'll get through.
I want to jump to the Sard Haven Tech Line.
We'll get through it until our guests arise, I think, around 3.30.
Hey, D.P., I hope you're having a good day, ready for the show.
Thank you.
Much appreciate it.
Good stuff.
D.P., have a feel on Mickey Joseph?
Do you think he would be in the wide receiver room?
I'm not worried about anybody that's not here already.
I'm not worried about anybody.
Look, I don't.
The speculation within these athletic programs and within recruiting and within coach hires,
is out of control.
Most people don't know what they're talking about.
It's just a waste of time.
I'll wait.
I'm patient enough to wait until Scott Frost in this administration
tells me who their guy is.
But going before that doesn't make much sense.
Why?
Mickey Joseph is under contract.
He's under contract.
He's under contract.
So we'll talk about that when if he calls and says,
hey, I got something to talk about,
then I'll jump into that.
But otherwise, it's just chatter.
Jump 6 says, what's up?
up, Jumpstick. Women's athletic carrying the program right now. Facts. Those are facts.
That is knowledge that was just dropped. In case you guys didn't know it, while you bicker about
dudes who are never going to come here and due to who are never going to coach here and due to
who are leaving here, that there is a program that is functioning right now that is winning on all
cylinders and has got it going on. You've got another program that's a national champion.
You got another program that is hosting an NCAA tournament first round.
But people like the train rank.
And I'm just like I don't, I'm not, that's not the space in it.
Yeah, I'm in the space of getting things right.
And we'll talk in great depth later today about what it's going to take to get things right.
But, you know, this is crazy.
DP players aren't getting paid.
No, players are getting paid because people want to make money off of them.
There's a difference.
Those are grown-ups.
We're talking about 18, 19, 20-year-olds.
I'm not talking about the grown men who support their families with this stuff.
Grown men and women who pay their bills because of these young people.
There is a huge difference between that.
And to think that all the players are getting paid, they're not.
They're not.
So no.
Drum 6th says Frost is accountable with 3-9 end of discussion.
Yeah, I mean, look for all of it.
That's the leader.
And that's not even a smack at Scott Frost.
That's, I would imagine what I would hope and expect Scott to say.
I'm responsible.
I'll get it right.
I'm responsible.
I'll get it right.
What's up, D.P.
How is this fan base any different than, say, Alabama fan base,
when if they lose two games, they think the world's on fire.
And Husker fan base for five straight years
to suffer losing seasons and they want changes.
But they can't get negative now.
Okay, so first of all, why would you,
if you tell me that the Nebraska fan base is unique,
then it is in a vacuum to itself, unto itself.
Don't need to compare it to Alabama.
We don't need to compare it to anybody else.
The Nebraska fan base in itself.
Now, if they are focusing on the negative rather than an undefeated basketball team,
an NCAA tournament volleyball team, yeah, that's focusing on negative.
And that would be a statement of fact.
Now, if you want, since you reference Alabama and where they are because they lose two games,
we'll just spend back this program 20 years, and that's the answer to your question.
when quite frankly people who are complaining really don't have much to complain about if you're Alabama
what do you complain about two losses when Nebraska complained about two losses they were trying to
chase away Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne when they complained about four for losses you ended up with
nine like those are statements of fact and it doesn't to me what I what I would suggest is
send Adrian Martinez off with his flowers give him give that dude his flowers
give that dude
and I
somebody just said
I've never been anywhere else
so I'm assuming other
fan bases get upset with players
well I've been all over the country
and been in these programs and I can tell you
yeah they get upset about it
but the reality is
arguing about two losses versus
being complacent about nine
is a huge huge bridge to cross
and there's a lot of potholes
a long way
but what I would hope is that
that Adrian Martinez got his flowers while he was here as he was leaving.
A simple thanks would, hey man, go big red.
Give that dude a go big red.
Give him a go big red.
And I said, you know, I said the same thing for anybody else that's leaving the program.
They put them to work.
They wore the colors.
Like they went to practice every day and got beat up and got injuries and all the other stuff.
You know, and the fan base is different.
But speak specifically to the Arasca fan base.
and it's okay, right?
What's up, D.P.
I'm a knowledgeable fan, and I don't need to be lectured by you.
Actually, that's why you tuned in.
You can turn me off.
I'm okay.
I'm okay.
That's why I have the microphone.
I asked how you felt about it.
You can say how you feel about it.
And I'll read those comments.
That's good.
Just like I read that one.
Being lectured, who said that was the lecture?
Come on.
Relax.
Harold Spears, what's up, DP? What's up, Harold?
I just wanted to say, I hope Adrian achieves everything that he's looking to achieve on his next stop.
I do believe that most of the fan base believes the same as I do.
It's always the small majority to speak the loudest, unfortunately.
Harold Spears, that's what I'm talking about.
That's good. That's glorious.
See, that's a glorious text.
That's glorious.
Well done.
Well done.
Well done.
Gabe says, what's up, D.P.?
What's up, Gabe?
Totally agree with you.
I think people forget that they want to win just as bad or worse than the fans do.
I wish him luck wherever he goes.
See, that's the, amen to that, right?
Amen to that.
That dude fought his tail off for Nebraska.
Fart his tail off.
Didn't get, did not have the success he wanted.
But fought his tail off for you.
And I was raised that if somebody shows love for you, you show love for them back.
And that dude loves Nebraska.
And I don't think anybody, I don't think anybody can say that Adrian Martinez doesn't love Nebraska.
So I'm just going to begin on conversations with the fact that Adrian Martinez probably loves Nebraska,
and it would probably behoove Nebraska to love Adrian Martinez back.
But that's just my two cents.
It's just my two cents.
What's up, D.P.
What's up, BJ?
I'm sad we didn't get to share the moment for Adrian as he held himself so well with all the naysayers.
He's a great representative of Nebraska, and I hope his next stop is successful as he will be in life.
Be jail, well done. Well said. Well said. That dude played through a broken jaw.
How many people would go to work with a broken jaw? That dude played football in the Big Town with a broken jaw for several weeks.
High ankle spring. Some dudes will put that foot up and call out for the day.
Adrian Martinez went out there and got chased around and got banged up and got it twisted, got knotted up and played anyway.
Dude went through several shoulder surgeries to be out there and try to get it done.
Bravo, all by wearing that beautiful end on his helmet on his chest.
Look, again, it's fair to say, look, he did not, he was 14 and 26 as a starter.
Okay, say it.
But that dude fought for Nebraska, which is a statement of truth.
Text line says, dude is a tough SOB and have nothing but respect for him,
but we can still celebrate moving on.
Look, if you want to celebrate him moving on, go for it.
Go for it.
I'm here to give this dude some flowers.
Like, that dude did something.
And quite frankly, it's not easy to have people yelling from the rafters
at a 20-year-old kid, a 21-year-old kid.
And he's a 21-year-old man.
But he was a kid when he got here.
Somebody sent their baby boy here to be loved on.
Period. Point blank.
And while he was recruited, everybody told him that he'd be loved up.
So do that.
Be the fan base you say you are during recruiting.
Is that not fair?
Isn't that what you say to him when he leaves what you said to him to get him here?
It's the same thing when they talk about with dating.
Be the same person with your partner that you are once you're in the relationship that you were when you started dating.
do all the small things.
Say that things out.
Say that loud.
From the text line,
what's up, DP?
Adrian poured his heart out for this team and this state.
Loved listening to his press conferences.
Wish him the best.
However, I think most fans look at his faults more than his accomplishment.
45 turnover, 14 wins, but we'll go down as number one quarterback instead.
He took a chance on Scott, and things didn't turn out the way either won it.
All of those are statements of truth.
But I tend, I'm the only.
swing in that thing is my saying that I'm going to pay just for me, just for me, I'm going to pay more attention to
all the good things that he did rather than his flaws.
Because we all have flaws.
We all have them.
We all have failures.
We all have lessons to learn.
And it seems to me that the adults in this space should be.
a community of support
rather than a community of
angry thugs and villains.
Come on. That's not who Nebraska fans
are, is it?
I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not
who you are, right?
D.P. Let's not forget the men's baseball team,
raining big ten champs with no signs of what any of props
to the women's basketball and volleyball teams.
But we have a solid men's program on a role, too.
Thanks to AM for a tough and talented career.
Jory. Yeah, all of that's true.
Oh, that's true.
And we highlight the baseball program.
We feature the baseball program.
We will feature men's gymnastics and men's wrestling,
which will be top 10 in the country,
and whatever other programs,
swim team, swim and diving team
that make themselves available and want to share stories.
All of that's in place.
I just don't think, you know,
I don't think you want the reputation as a fan base
who beats up on due to fight like crazy for them.
But you may not care, and that's all right too.
What up, DP?
What up, Scott and Stonebridge Creek.
Adrian will likely end up a Heisman candidate
if he hooked up with a team with a decent O line
that he has that much talent.
I hope he does.
Yeah, I'm rude for the guy.
I'm rooting for him.
Robo.
Sanderson says, we all wanted the fairy tale,
and I'm so disappointed it didn't happen for Adrian.
But it wasn't lack of effort, toughness, desire,
or love for Nebraska.
God bless.
I hope you find success in your next stop
because by God you deserve it,
nothing but love.
See, I can roll with that.
Seems to, that seems to be,
like what everybody says,
hey, there's a three or four star
that wants to come to Nebraska.
And as we do this,
as we do this,
we roll out the kindness,
we roll out all the good,
we show the best example of ourselves.
And then when it turns,
Remember, these are the young people.
And I'm not sure you want to be a community that turns on young people like that.
Nor should you be.
And again, there's no right or wrong in this.
I'm just telling you from my perspective and from my vantage,
what I would ask for is for you to be the fan base that you are when recruiting somebody
and begging them to come here and be that same fan base when it doesn't work out.
because that's integrity, that's character.
That's what that is.
Being constant, being loyal, being faithful, all those things.
You can be mad at me for asking for the best of us.
I'll take that.
I will stand with my shoulders back and my chest out asking you for us to be the better of us.
That's all.
And that's not even a lecture.
That's my wish.
That's my hope.
Treat these young folks well, please.
because one day they're going to be in charge and they will remember.
You better raise some leaders.
That's what you better do.
But that's just me.
Adrian Martinez, I root for you in whatever you do in life and whatever's going on.
I'm rooting for this football program and this fan base.
Today was kind of a gut punch, even though there were whispers to it.
This isn't shocking.
It's just disappointing.
but don't let the disappointment dirty up your clean water.
Don't allow it.
Don't do it.
We'll throw it a break.
We'll put down the football conversation because there's a greater event going up.
Discovery Days at Southeast Community College and it will happen Friday.
We'll bring in a guest and we will break down exactly what's happening.
That's a good news event.
That's a positive event.
That is a directional event for this.
community. We will do that next on one-on-one, 93-7 The Ticket FM.
Download our app by searching 93.7 the ticket in your app store. You're listening to
one-on-one with DP on 937 the Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
