Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the couple Chevrolet GMC Studios. Here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery, on 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Oh, it's the cult of personality. A little bit color. Look at my eyes. What do you see? The cult of personality.
Starting point is 00:00:36 Thank you guys for joining us. a big day, a big day. Some fond farewells, a lot of hugs, fist bumps, smiles, farewells, farewells, wishing you well. As folks go on to the next thing that they're going to do, and they do it well, and we are cheering for them like crazy. You can join in today. 424-6-4-6-85, the Sardhamming text line, the Honolving Hotline. Have at it. There's lots to talk about soon.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Lots going on around the station. Again, love, joy, praise sent to Connor Happer, Mike Schaefer, Tom Stevens. Your family, your blood, good, we love you. There's an old adage that popped up today, but the show must go on. We are tasked with entertaining you on a day-to-day basis. and when one door opens out, we have to let people back in to occupy that space. I'm joined by Jake Bachover, Mark, Mark on-Miler.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Rico is here. Nicky Boy's here. I'm over here. You're over there doing your thing. Mark, I'll bring you in first before we get to the announcement phase. Okay. Hi. How are you?
Starting point is 00:02:05 I'm good. You've had a busy week. Yeah, yeah. I was, I popped out of my head, popped out of my office a little bit and realized I haven't really seen the sun today, you know? Like, we've been in meetings all day long, talking to folks. Right? Like, sign this. Consider that.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Ponder this. We know we need your first child for that. We can't do. Here's three addendums. There's all the stuff that we agreed to. Now here's the stuff we're not going to agree to and hear the possible. But there was sweet potato pie involved. Man, there was sweet potato pie.
Starting point is 00:02:34 So, you know what? It wasn't all bad. It was a pretty good day. Bach, your first introduction to sweep Tate a pie? Oh, yeah. I had two slices. I might have a third or four out of here. Hey, man. Look, look, look, times are changing. It was good stuff right here. You know, I had to tell you, there's a different kind of party going on today. And again, thank you guys for allowing us to entertain you, to conversate with you, to hang out with you on a day-to-day basis. And again, this whole station idea concept mission is about a meeting place,
Starting point is 00:03:04 of like-minded people who want to come and talk sports and movies and music and just life in general and share pieces of ourselves and you with us and there's no malice intended in any of it. But the best way I could think of was to identify what the mission of the station is. Daily sports radio, Husker-centric, right? very focused not only but as a major part of it's a common thread and it's shared DNA
Starting point is 00:03:40 and in trying to put together a roster this is like I now understand what happened in the replacements when your starters roll out and you got to put on a game the next Sunday and you have in the back of your head who you think you want to hire
Starting point is 00:04:01 and who you need weed, but that movie said a lot, because there's a lot of frick and frack. So you got to weed through it. Mark, you've been tasked with weeding through resumes, emails, text, phone calls. Yeah. How did you come to the lineup that we are about to reveal? Well, what's it say on our logo? Lincoln's real sports talk, right?
Starting point is 00:04:31 And folks came after us a little bit when we put the word real in all caps. Like, well, what are you saying? What are you saying? You're the realist? And you're, you're, that was me. Okay. And I, the response is always, yeah. Yeah, we are the realist.
Starting point is 00:04:51 We are Lincoln's real sports talk. Nebraska's real sports talk. We are your place for real conversations about sports with people. You're not finding having these conversations anywhere else. So I think that was kind of the driving force here is we're finding you a lineup that's unique, that's informative, that's entertaining. That's not something you're going to get anywhere else on your dial, something you probably haven't heard really in your sports radio listening history on any station, regardless of market. it because this it's it's unique it's different and i'm excited about it we did and just before we launched this thing i just want to be sure there are extended circuits extenuating circumstances
Starting point is 00:05:40 because we also are going to enhance the nighttime radio because the one thing wasn't enough right right like hey hey you know not not the opportunity just to to put together the six to six that's That's one thing. But that six to eight, nine, or ten, depending on the night and what's going on, we'll also be a part of what we talk about today. So, Nick, if you would please, everyone raise your glass. I got the magic button here. Nick, you have it.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Do it. Nick, do it. Do it. Here we go. Leading off, it's the ticket's longest running show. Stephen M. Sipple and Young Jake. It's early break with Sipping Jake. Coming in from 8 to 11, new time, same duo.
Starting point is 00:06:34 It's veteran broadcaster Derek Pearson and Nebraska Football Hall of Famer Jay Foreman with Old School. At 11 a.m., this one's all new. One's a three-time national champion and co-captain of the 1997 Nebraska football team. The other finished his career as the all-time leader in games played in a Nebraska basketball uniform. It's the captains with Vershon Jackson and Terrance Badget. Two o'clock, you can't get rid of them no matter how hard you may want to. Happy hours here to stay with Nick and Rico. And at three o'clock, back to his natural time slot.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Jake Brockover handled your drive home at his side from four to six. He's top ten in points, top ten in game play, top five and assists, top two in steals, nine-year NBA veteran Eric Strickland. Gooseblins. Mark Onweiler, you are a bad, bad man. Look at you. Look at you. Are there any PA jobs open?
Starting point is 00:07:45 Oh, my goodness gracious. There may be. I don't know. I'm trying to get like you when I'm older. Oh, man. Again, that lineup on short notice and lots to do. Bach, let's bring you into the fold first. Hey, bro.
Starting point is 00:08:06 How do you feel? Oh, I can. be more happy. I've been smiling since I heard about the lineup, not just for me going back to the afternoons. And obviously getting a talent that I've worked with a little bit and have watched him just becoming natural very quickly. We asked Eric Strickland to be a part of our postgame show last year, I believe it was the first year. And now he's, you know, if you listen to Strict Nines, he's got it. I mean, I don't know. We're still going to have to talk about who's going to be running the show at certain times because he can do it just as well as I can.
Starting point is 00:08:38 So I can't wait for that. And we have all sorts of ideas to move forward and go with that show. But, you know, it's just, that's one part. And I love that part. But the whole lineup and what we're doing moving forward, this just is going to feel like kind of the Husker hub. I mean, this is going to be the place to know kind of the talking's going on around Huskers, ex-huskers, current Huskers.
Starting point is 00:09:03 It's just going to be magnificent. And I can't wait to get started. Mark, we went through. Let's talk through the process, right? So we had to fill not only host spots, but time slots. And we had to put together this lineup. So let's clear one thing. Connor was never asked to leave any time slot that he was ever in. Yeah, right. Connor was our program director. Connor made these decisions. Connor was not pushed out of the drive time slot. Connor wanted to go to the morning. So the worked better for his schedule. So,
Starting point is 00:09:40 so, yeah, set the records made on that one. Yeah, it wasn't there. And then with Connor, is Mike Schaefer. And we understand that the talent level. So when they have their chemistry,
Starting point is 00:09:53 they wanted to work together, couldn't work together, it's an opportunity for him to go and take care of some things he wants to take care of the things he wants to do otherwise. So then we're left with that time slot. Now, we could have gone back to Dan Patrick.
Starting point is 00:10:06 We could have done that. But that, That seems like a settlement. That seems like... That's a step in the wrong direction. Right? Away from local programming, away from Nebraska, Nebraska-centric Huskers in general.
Starting point is 00:10:19 So we decided to put... What could we do? It was to put that show there. We then thought, right, that, okay, what do we do with TomSpot? How do we put some of... Who do we want with Bach? And then as we went through the checklist,
Starting point is 00:10:34 there were people who could do that time slot. There are people that couldn't do that time slot. It was like, okay, you know, we looked. And then it pops up to us that there's a guy that Bach knows. And he's pretty, pretty exceptional. Like he's known. What are they getting with Bach and Strick? Mark, what do you think this is?
Starting point is 00:10:55 Oh, man. Well, if you've listened to Strick 9 at all, like, Strick's a sports fan. Like, he's all in on all of it. It's not just basketball. It's football and it's baseball. you know like he's he's he's all in on all of that so you've got his high high level of knowledge you've got the passion of jake bochoven alongside him and i think i think they're going to have a lot of fun together anybody and riko have you done a show with strick i have not but i have
Starting point is 00:11:23 not done a show with strick but i have watched a basketball game with strick live at pbba our our alma mater belb u.s right right make sure i get that out media powerhouse right we're pretty good. We watched them take on Millard North, and he is intense. I can only imagine being on the court with him, if that's how he is off the court watching high school basketball. Yeah, it was pretty funny. Rico was just giving me the look as he sat in Acta Strict. He's like, what's going on here? Well, I was excited at first. I was like, dude, I get to watch a game with Eric Strick. Like, this is cool. And it starts, and Bellevue S. Miller North are going, like, you know, bucket for bucket, and then Bellevue West kind of going down. And they're,
Starting point is 00:12:06 They're down by two at one point, and, you know, I think it was Chuckie took like a contested three. And Strick stands up so fast. And he's a big dude. And he just yells at the court. And I'm just like, I'm not with this guy. It was there. So you, in fairness, RICO is entering a new phase of his career because he is now going to be tasked with producing old school. And so it would be RICO myself.
Starting point is 00:12:36 and Jay Foreman. Now, initially my thought was, we've already had a talk. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They had to talk about, okay, how is this going to go down? Like, who's in charge? Because Rico thinks he's in charge of everything. It's me. And Jay Foreman could throw Rico with two pinkies across the room.
Starting point is 00:12:56 It could, but then nobody's going to run the board. Yeah, we've got ourselves. Yeah, we've got ourselves the predicament. You know, there's that. So good luck to you starting. Good luck to you. to you. Yeah, I, look, I'm just going to, like, egg you both on. I'm just going to come in with gasoline every day and just egg you two on. Ask Nick what it's like when I decide that I'm
Starting point is 00:13:16 just going to throw. Oh, I've listened. I've listened. Yep. I'm not, I'm not backing down. You may want to. I'm stepping up. I would say, I'm going to go chest to chest with him, but it's more like chest to forehead. Yeah, I was going to say, no, that's the other work. And then, Nick, you got you got you are going to have fun nick got introduced to to to to the captain's show today yeah burshon jackson and terence badgett first first impressions nick energetic um pumped up driven though i think those are three words well four if you count pumped up uh that is it whatever you want to spell it AP style no no those guys so um yeah no I'm really excited so I'll be producing the 11 to 2 they have a lot of goals which is really really good meeting with them
Starting point is 00:14:14 earlier um and they have a lot of ideas which are really going to take off and creative ideas what was the motion you were practicing earlier reaching over the oh just dump yeah just dump oh oh just very non-stop I was up front at my desk and you guys were in marks office with the door closed mind you. We were laughing. We kept it civil, right? I'm trying to keep... Oh, no, it was completely simple,
Starting point is 00:14:38 but I'm trying to get work done, and I just hear laughing and yelling about things and more laughter and then singing at one point. That didn't happen. Which you will hear Monday in Monday's debut show. You're going to hear that song.
Starting point is 00:14:53 And Sorensen walks up and he goes, what's going to go? I don't know, man. I think the 11 to 2 is in there. Nick's going to have a blast, apparently. That's what I'm gathering from this whole thing. Mark, how would you describe that?
Starting point is 00:15:05 How would you describe that? It was like, I don't know. This is my first time face-to-face meeting Terrence Badgett, first time ever meeting for Sean Jackson. And for starters, it was like we had known each other for years. Right. Like, they just draw you in. It was a lot of fun in that way.
Starting point is 00:15:21 But, man, do they have some opinions about Husker Athletics? Let me tell you. I heard that too. Yeah, yeah. I will let them take care of that on Monday. I'm not even going to say those opinions. Oh, they will probably. I'm going to let them deal with that.
Starting point is 00:15:36 I don't think we're going to be short of opinions on that show. Right. Like to have guys who, like this is, they know the program. Like they know the history of Husker athletics. It's not just football or basketball. They know all the programs that have been engaged. And then they know the tracking of what's going on now. And they know the talent level of the athletes in the state who could help out the
Starting point is 00:16:01 program and these guys are connected and then the rolodex of contacts oh yeah like of who is going to be on this station via this show and for them to just line it up and say all of those conversations need to be had deserve to be had and this is where it'll happen from 11 to every day so there's that There's that. And then, and then, Big Sky, again, who just graduated and we're so proud of them and looking forward to what greater version he becomes. But he got to meet some of the folks that he's going to be dealing with at night. And we just met with Heather Wrenz from the swim team, and she's going to join Ladies' Night.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And we'll have a full lineup of ladies from 6 to 10 o'clock at night to go through, you know, mainly anchored by Nicole Griffith and the gymnastics show. have a basketball show. Yeah, it's there. But we had to fill Strickland's spot, and we had to fill Badgett's spot on Wednesday night. And we were introduced to a pair of former Huskers, Aaron Davis and Chris Wreck.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Mark, how would you describe those two gentlemen? Oh, that's a good question. Again, it was my first time meeting both of them, Though it's not my first time experiencing Aaron Davis, he is a, he's a speaker. It's what he does. And he is a very engaging speaker. He commands attention when he's at the front of a room talking to a group. And I can only imagine the same thing's going to come through on a microphone.
Starting point is 00:17:44 You talk about connected. These two also, they're going to bring in some friends. Chris was saying, you know, he's been, folks have been bugging him for years to do a podcast and just do, you know, rapping friends or whatever it is. that's what the show is going to be. It's hanging out. Normally there would be cigars involved. I don't think there will be due to laws in this state and things of that nature. Something, something, something.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Yeah. Smoke inside something. But if that were allowed, that that's the sort of environment I think we're curating here is just hanging out with the boys doing some radio. And they know the history of this thing. Like they are in the circles of this thing. All of the legends now come into play. and these are conversations that they had in different combinations, which is the other part.
Starting point is 00:18:32 So there's that. And then Jake and I are working. We have an agreement with teammates. Teammates mentoring. Nice. And there will be once a week night, once per week on a week night, a show with the legends. And we're talking about Tom Osborne.
Starting point is 00:18:47 We're talking about Des Moines Adams. And their mentoring program and giving this station a space and giving that program a means to recruit people, connect people, highlight people along the way. We still have all the nighttime program. What's the buzz? We still have the truth with Kobe Webster and C.J. Wiltshire. We're not going to lose it.
Starting point is 00:19:08 We still got outside the box. Up the middle. Up the middle with Cam Chick and what's like short? What's your favorite guy's name? Bryce Matthews? Yeah. Yeah. You mean the greatest baseball player in the world?
Starting point is 00:19:22 to have this and we're not done. We're not done. This is just Monday with us being able to do this and get it going. Nick, if you would please, one more time. We will do the, we'll roll the announcements. We'll go to break and we'll talk about it a little bit more, a little bit more about what's to be expected next week going forward. But Nick, if you would, please.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Leading off, it's the ticket's longest running show. Stephen M. Sipple and young Jake. It's early break. with Sipping Jick. Coming in from 8 to 11, new time, same duo. It's veteran broadcaster Derek Pearson and Nebraska Football Hall of Famer Jay Foreman with Old School.
Starting point is 00:20:12 At 11 a.m., this one's all new. One's a three-time national champion and co-captain of the 1997 Nebraska football team. The other finished his career as the all-time leader in games played in a Nebraska basketball uniform. It's the captains with Vershon Jackson and Terrence Badgett. 2 o'clock?
Starting point is 00:20:33 You can't get rid of them, no matter how hard you may want to. Happy hours here to stay with Nick and Rico. And at 3 o'clock, back to his natural time slot. Jake Bockover handled real drive home. At his side from 4 to 6. He's top 10 in points. Top 10 in game play, top 5 and assists. Top 2 in Steele's nine-year NBA veteran, Eric Strickland.
Starting point is 00:21:03 by searching 93.7 the ticket in your app store. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 937 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
