You're listening to One-on-One with D.P.
On 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back to one-on-one.
I want to thank the folks to Beatrice Bakery again.
You know, we hooked up the folks.
Actually, Nick, I will ask you because we hooked up the folks from the Lincoln Stars.
Yes.
We got Rocky and Cristiano.
Yeah.
But we did a thing today that one of the great mentoring organizations that you can think of, teammates.
Yes.
So compliments of Beatrice's bakery.
We delivered some goodies.
They got delivered everything good.
They did it.
The picture of me and Jim,
a great guy from teammates over there,
is on our Twitter.
So go share that.
And think about becoming a mentor,
because it's so rewarding.
It's so rewarding.
That's so rewarding.
That's awesome.
Great guy.
It's a good thing.
Jim's amazing.
I'm supposed to meet with him on Monday.
Yep.
And it was just a way for all the stuff they did.
They had their big event.
last weekend in Omaha.
But the Lincoln office, those folks that are there,
we wanted to do something for the building.
So last week I gave, I went and delivered some to the intensive care unit at the ICU at
CHI, St. Elizabeth.
And I went up there and now today with teammates, both people I spoke to said the same
thing is why are you doing this and why?
And I'm like, no, there's literally no reason.
It's literally just to spread smiles.
Like, that's what we're in it for.
That's it.
And they're like, they were caught off guard.
And especially after day, as I was driving back, I'm thinking to myself, like, why is it so, why is it so crazy?
Like, we did stuff for pious baseball, which we called extra innings, where we went out into our community and we would either buy breakfast for a homeless person, like a group of us or something like that.
We had to decide on our own.
And then we wrote a paper and we talked about it.
And it's super rewarding.
And now that I'm getting older and I'm starting to realize, like, why isn't that more of a steeple?
It should be the norm that we're here for.
Like we just even in this space.
And last Friday was one of my favorite days doing radio here.
Yeah.
Because we met a lot of families.
We met a lot of people on Friday when we simply said people are going through it.
And you want to add to a better day for people as, as a.
often as you can.
And we saw families just drive up just to get a smile.
And it doesn't take much.
I mean, last Friday showed it.
Doesn't take much to do a lot.
And the folks from teammates, and then we picked, you know, whether you've got, whether
it's a first responder that you know, a teacher, professor, student athlete, college
athlete, pro athlete, somebody from the alumni.
family member, friend, foe, co-worker.
But now, on the ticketfm.com, you can nominate people as much as you want.
You could just, when you go to the ticketfm.com, it's right there on the very first page.
And it says, when you look at Beatrice's Bakery, you can nominate somebody to just receive a care package that says,
somebody cares about you.
Somebody cares.
Somebody thought of you today.
Somebody wanted to do a good thing.
So jump on the ticket FM.com.
You don't have to wait until Fridays when we do it.
But just jump on it and send the nominations
because we're going to be giving away care packages every weekday.
Every weekday, one show will give out,
matter of fact, at least one show will give out care packages.
Just so folks in Lincoln, one, they become aware of Beatched's Bakery.
So when you think of the people you care about,
you think of Beatrice's Bakery,
for 93-7 the ticket, they'll let you know that we're a place to actually cares.
Like, you're listeners, but you're becoming friends and family, so we might as well act according.
It's the little things.
It's all the little things they mean a lot when you do it repetitively.
And similar to any football or sports program, since we're a sports station, similar to any sports program, when you do it over and over, that's who you become.
It is necessary to do, and that's what we will continue to do.
From the start of him and text line,
and thanks you guys for shooting in the text.
You know the rules hit me with the What's Up DP,
and I'll get to you.
What's Up DP?
It's a Mississippi Mud Dog.
What's up?
I just wanted to say thanks for all you guys are doing
to grow teammates.
I had a teammate as a kid,
and it was a huge positive in my life.
You were helping so many kids out there.
Awesome job.
Yeah, and folks, we're going to have,
we have a vehicle.
And if it's good,
for a kid in Lincoln, it's good for all of us. So mentoring doesn't take a lot of your time. It just
takes that you have a good heart and you're willing to listen to somebody, talk to somebody,
you know, add a boy or at a girl somebody, and just share yourself with them. You know,
I mean, just be a person that they know they can talk to, even for whatever period of time there is.
teammates can do that in large form.
As a matter of fact, that's their mission.
We want to help out.
Brian T. says, what's up, DP?
What's up, man?
Shout out for a happy 246 birthday Marines also.
Good to say hi last night.
Yeah, I was, brother.
Appreciate the fist bump.
It's always good to see smiles around Lincoln.
And you guys have been really good.
Can I say that?
You guys have been really good about, like,
when you guys see me around town,
I get a what's up DP and a fist bump.
Like that's, you guys are good.
And the kind words about what we're trying to do,
we're just trying to put on the radio and entertain and help people get through days.
I mean, I was told last night that there were, you know,
there were several times where laughter helped people get through a tough day.
And that's what it is, or the distraction or the focus or shared love of a thing.
And you guys are good because several times at both basketball games yesterday,
football game as well, especially at Tanners and Upside.
You guys have been exceptional in reaching out, sharing yourself, let me know who you are.
It's good.
This is why we do it.
It's community.
We're locally owned and locally run.
And that goes for your businesses as well.
We just got somebody that was talking about, we were talking about cowboy boots and such.
Reach out.
How do you have a.
Cowboy Boots store for all your goods and you haven't reached out to us.
Reach out.
Hit me up.
If you've got your, I mean, if it's the place to go for said thing, reach out.
Reach out.
Let's do some good stuff together.
And if you have your own company, you run your own company, let me know.
There's something we can do together that will benefit you, us, and all of them.
And it won't take much.
I just want to know that you want to do something good to you.
we've got all these shows we've got these young people who are walking in the door and we're
trying to make sure that they're taking care of and they get introduced and they have the option of
this as a career so we'll teach them and kind of mentor them as well and then we go out into the
community and this allows us all the partnerships allows us to cover more high school sports
it allows us to cover more college sports it allows us to bring in and train more people
it allows us to do more gifted and more sponsorships allow that so thank you
you for you folks who have been considerate and been reaching out and we've had a ton of
meetings and folks who are interested but there's more good to be done and we're headed to
we're headed directly to Thanksgiving and Christmas and I'm just saying we will not be
quiet about making sure that people have something during those holiday times little
things matter it won't take much and with a strong community of folks and we've got
really good-hearted listeners.
Yeah, we'll put together and we'll do,
we may do a food drive, we may do
finance drive so we can just
pay off folks and get
meals made and put together.
We've got restaurant sponsors that might be able
to help us with that as well.
So we're open to idea,
we're open to collaboration
and we're open to
loving folks who need to
be loved. Did get some to good news
today.
Third book situation.
is happening.
This one's different than the impact of influence.
This one is recovery and rehabilitation,
getting over, going through what you go through.
And I tell my story being, you know,
when I was down and thought I was out
and the miracles that exist and all that stuff,
so I'll be able to tell that story.
I'm looking forward to it.
But I had to put together 5,000 words,
and that was pretty heavy.
I have not forgotten last night's football.
game. I have not forgotten
Saturday's football game. I have not
forgotten yesterday afternoon's basketball game
for the ladies. Bravo, kudos to the
women of Nebraska
basketball who put on a show and a display.
Good team play. Moved ball
around, took shots that they could make.
They did it with a smile.
They played happy. They played together. It looked
like they celebrated one another.
And it's easy to do when you're winning.
But it looks purposeful. It looks like that thing
existed. And chicken or the egg.
I'd say in this case that these folks like each
other, which makes it easier to win together.
And that's pretty cool.
They showed flashes.
If you hadn't peaked at the women's basketball team, do so.
Josh Shelley at the point, Australian played on their national team.
Really savvy, moxie point guard, good off the dribble, can pull up and shoot the long-range
jumper, has nice mid-range game, high-ey.
high basketball IQ, you're playing her next to Sam Hyby,
who will be one of the best eight players in the Big Ten conference,
maybe best five this year.
Some of the burden of her having a ball handle for an entire ball game
has been alleviated with Jazz Shelby.
Sam will be able to let Jazz run the offense from time to time
and take a break.
They've got some backup folks.
I've got some folks behind them that can do the work.
But freeze up Sam, and it also means that the best defender isn't always.
is automatically going to be put on Sam Hypey.
And that's going to help.
Ashley Skagin got off.
She got him on off in a good start.
She had the first seven points.
Got him going yesterday.
Long-range jumper was in effect.
Is defending more actively this year?
Is he born who just super talented?
She does everything on the forewell.
Long-range jumper.
She can handle a little ball.
She defends with aggression, above average rebounder can finish nice savvy around the rim.
She's got good footwork and get the ball on the rim.
And then Bella Cravens, who's taking that spot that Kate Kane managed for a while.
And look, that's a double-double machine.
Bella was, I mean, Bella is strong.
Bella is quick.
Stronger than you would think.
But her mid-range jumper is better, which is going to make her more.
problem. And then there's the depth that goes with that because people who got
playing time last year, and you talk about Ruby Porter and Michael Caten and
Anika Stewart, they've got, they've got, their top 10 is pretty deep, talented,
not going to be super tall, but they will be big enough in the big 10 to get things done.
Back to the text line, Dusty says, what's up, DP? What's up, Dusty? Hey, y'all.
you're all doing a lot to grow listeners with the football season's going how they've gone the last several years you're doing something right after every Saturday loss I say I don't even want to hear about it for a while but every Monday I still put on 93-7 the ticket and listen all day keep it up Dusty this is a meeting of like hearts like minds and like spirits this is a place to commiserate a place to celebrate a place to ponder and figure it out like trying to figure out the right direction take the temperature of
of sports fans for Husker Nation.
This is a good place for it.
You guys tell us and reset.
Like, we're just a thermometer.
We tell you how hot things are,
but you guys set the temperature.
You guys tell us whether you're happy,
disappointed, sad, upset, confused, whatever it is.
And then we try to provide some information when we can't,
as we can't.
And sometimes the information we give you
is not what you want to hear,
but you guys hang with us and understand that
we're just simply trying to provide
good information for the space.
Right?
Not everybody gets to engage the way we want you guys to be able to engage.
We want to give you access to the players and coaches and the former Huskers.
Like, we want to give you access to that stuff.
And not just in the question and answer realm.
I want you to get to know them.
So you can kind of tell what kind of person they are that is representing
you and vice versa.
That's what we're trying to do.
We'll try to get better as we go.
We'll try to do more as we go.
That's the plan to give you more of what you want to hear and what you want to do.
Big Slim says, what's up, DP?
What's up, Big Slim?
I thought Nebraska was going to be our spirit saver, not one score losses.
What gives?
Here's what's funny.
and I kind of wanted to dive into that with Jay Foreman at 4 o'clock.
But I'll say this.
I expected that night to happen.
I did not expect that night to happen last night.
I fully expected that there would be a night or several nights where three-point shooting didn't go down,
ball handling didn't happen, sequencing, offensive sequences didn't happen,
that they didn't rebound, wouldn't rebound, didn't defend at the top of
level, all those things. I just didn't expect it to happen last night. And I can honestly say
needed it needed the day. Matter of fact, I would say neither did Western Illinois. They didn't
expect that either. Although they had three players who came in with full intent to ruin somebody's
opening night party. They had three players that simply played at a high level, high vibrancy,
and that's required. So win or learn this team.
hopefully learned last night.
And the message I got was, yeah, eyes forward,
handle your business.
We know what's required.
Can't speak for them, though.
I'll let them do that.
We'll throw the break.
We'll finish up one-on-one.
When we come back on 93-7, The Ticket.
Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch.
You're listening to One-on-One-on-one with DP on 93-7 the Ticket
and the Ticketfm.com.
