Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to one-on-one with DP. Brought to you by Beatrice Bakery. On 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Oh, that's funny. Like I said, one day, you know, it'll be all the, all the commercial break conversations that are just hilarious. Along the way, I'm DP.
Starting point is 00:00:32 402, 464, 56685 for the Honda-Lincoln hotline and the Sard of Haming text line. Again, you guys can check out the videos. Nick, you're going to have to remind me to share the YouTube videos at the start of each show because I've slacked and shame on me for doing so to do that. Well, thank the folks from Beatrice's Bakery. As a matter of fact, Friday, we were going to take nominations to make people's day, and it got so busy that we didn't get to do it in high volume.
Starting point is 00:01:07 we want it. And this week, I'm going to be on a lot of remotes, so I will not be in studio to help out. So I'm thinking that for the next half hour, I'll take some nominations. And a couple of ways you can do it. You can call in. You can get on the starter. I'm a text on a text in.
Starting point is 00:01:23 If there's somebody, you know, care for the first responder, a teacher, educator, nurse, doctor, janitor, don't care. If it's somebody that you just think works their tail off that deserves a pat on the back, we want to try to do that compliment to Beatrice Bakery. You can call in, do that. And then also on the 93, on the Ticketfm.com website, there's a button.
Starting point is 00:01:46 As soon as you go to the website, there's a button. It says you can nominate if you want to do it, you know, anonymously. Just jump on the website and it'll take your request and send it to us and we can make a decision. But simple opportunities, again, on a week where folks are busy. not everybody gets a pat on the back and we kind of want to do that. We kind of want to make a place where folks are taking care of each other. I go back to the question, right?
Starting point is 00:02:14 What's the biggest game of the weekend? So let's put it this way. And fortunately, volleyball's at Penn State this week. So, no, they're here. Well, football's at Wisconsin this week. But if they were all going on at the same time, which one would you go to? So if Nebraska Wisconsin football, Nebraska Penn State volleyball,
Starting point is 00:02:44 and Nebraska Creighton basketball were going on at the same time, simple decision. You can only go to one at the same time. Let me know which one you would go to. Yeah, I don't know what that is. Jesse says, not good if we have to run on officials to call holding penalties. They haven't exactly done us any favors this year. A lot of that in space.
Starting point is 00:03:12 So a lot of what happens in pre-game meetings with officials are the things that they're looking for, right? Some things that have been reported. It could be things that teams have reported about your particular team and things that you do that sometimes are bordering or crossing the line as far as legality is concerned. So you could go in and say, listen, I'm going to send the Big Ten clips of Wisconsin holding, especially if it's a player and especially if it's a particular type of play. Sometimes you can get officials to draw their eyes because of past protection. Some of those will be during quick hitting run plays. Quick hitting run plays, they're going to tell you to fight harder.
Starting point is 00:04:03 but when it's gaining an unnatural movement and gaining an advantage, then that should generally draw the flat. Now, if you want to call it every play, you can. But there are players who do it more often and more openly. I mean, they are wide open, right, about how Wisconsin does it. Wisconsin, man, I'm just telling you, you can watch, you can go back and watch their whole game. and on any given run play,
Starting point is 00:04:35 there's three badgers who were just locked in, fingers clenched, fully engaged, sometimes around the collar, sometimes on the breastplate. And I'm okay with locked fingers, but I'm talking about when you're getting a change of direction,
Starting point is 00:04:52 when you're changing a defender's direction with your grab, then that's issue. And you can share that, and suggest that to officials before the game. So that if it happens during the game, you don't have to start over. You don't have to start over and go, listen, Mr. Official, you know, number 69 is holding.
Starting point is 00:05:15 79 for Wisconsin is holding, because that's literally going to be every play. And if they don't call it on a small play, then on a big play where it gives them an advantage and then a big play is made, you can go to that. And it happens. It happens in every sport, especially, I mean, on the college level, Those meetings happen.
Starting point is 00:05:33 They happen in basketball. They happen in baseball. Yeah. Yeah, those things are there. So we'll jump back to the text line. You guys have been good. I want to say thank you. Don says, what's up, DP?
Starting point is 00:05:46 What's up, Don? Non-sports question for you. The better meat off or grill. Steak and potatoes or burgers and brats. Better meal. I would say steak and potatoes. I just think, and it depends on the setting. as well.
Starting point is 00:06:08 If it's a family meal, it's steak and potatoes. If it's everybody, let's say it's, you know, you're in a cookout or a barbecue. Burgers and brats are better for it because it allows more volume to be done properly and you don't have to coordinate times on all of them. But whatever you're serving, of those I'm in. Like, whatever ones you're doing, I'm in. You do steak, I'm in.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I know that it's an awful take here in Lincoln, Nebraska when I say how I want my stake, but I am who I am. That's how we do it. You guys will love me anyway. Yeah, Eric says volleyball, hands down if he had the choice. Skor Swamy says, hoops, takes less time.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And his warmer and has more attention for a good season. Yeah. Biggest winnable game is volleyball. Penn State's loaded, though, aren't they? Right? Isn't that how that's supposed to work? Tyler says usually football, but hoops because of Creighton. Hey, DP, volleyball all day.
Starting point is 00:07:06 That's fair. Texas says you smoke crate and you become legendary as a Husker. 9874, December 11, 2020. Yeah, it needs to be, you know, Bryce says, you're giving officials too much credit. I'm giving them credit because I know how it works. My thing, when I officiated, it was when somebody says, well, they keep grabbing me.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Well, don't let them grab you. coaching requires that I teach you how to defend yourself in that space. Hand fighting for offensive and defense alignment is a big part of the skill, is a big skill for that position. Like I always ask my own players, well, why are you letting him grab you? Like, that's, I mean, hand quickness and violence, yeah. If I do my job and I shoot between his hands first, okay, then he can't do that. I can chop down, I can chop up, I can chop sideways.
Starting point is 00:08:04 stop letting people hold you. Same thing in pass routes. Well, I got rerouted. Then don't be rerouted. There's too much just sitting back waiting for somebody to bail you out instead of you fighting to the point where they want to call for you. If a team is aggression, so aggression will be benefited.
Starting point is 00:08:27 If everybody's playing aggressive all the time. But you're being passive. Officials aren't going to blow, they're not going to blow whistle or throw the flag for you. That's just not how it works. It's just not how it works. I mean, it should be the rules of the rules, but the reality is they're human involved.
Starting point is 00:08:42 The humans are involved, and the officials who are calling the game will see somebody that's battling and will give them credit for that. And the last two games, yeah, Nebraska's gotten a ton of calls because they're battling. And they're not going to get all the calls.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Those days are gone. You're not going to get all the calls. Some of the calls? Get a couple of them, especially on big plays where it helps them gain advantage. Back. Text on, hey, DP, well, we are on the topic of penalties.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Does the offense ever pay attention to which DP caused the most past interference and maybe try and target them on a fourth and long situation? I try to target them all day. I try to target them on first down. It happened, and it happened to Nebraska's defensive backs. And it wasn't a slight. It was so much so that when a defensive back knows that he's getting. calls against him, he changes the way he covers.
Starting point is 00:09:41 And there were a couple of games this year where Nebraska allowed a lot of quick, easy slant routes. Well, because if he was, because that corner had gotten used to being in battles up front in the line of scrimmage and penalties they were being called. And they were getting beat. So that's, you know, that's how that would go down. Every game other than the football game is more important this week. playing for something. Football isn't. Yeah, that's kind of why I asked was that it seems to me
Starting point is 00:10:14 like in a football town that football would always be king. But if all three of those games were side by side at the same time, even if Nebraska, Wisconsin was here, I'm not sure that everybody is going to any of the games because each person has their own agenda, their own favorites. That's why I was asking, like just taking a temperature of room. If they're all being played the same time, I would imagine for the sake of curiosity, that you go to basketball. And for the sake of winning and having success, you go to volleyball.
Starting point is 00:10:45 And if it's because you're a Husker at heart, you're a Husker football fan at heart, and you don't want to give it away or give it up, you go watch the Huskers and the Badgers. And none of them are wrong. I just want to know what you guys would say. Hey, DP, what's up? Who is a better actor?
Starting point is 00:11:01 Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell in your favorite movie from them? Hmm. better actor Sandler has evolved more he's become a grown-up in it I still think of Will Ferrell as the party guy
Starting point is 00:11:23 like it's kind of hard to let that go um Wolf Farrell I mean come on we're headed in the Christmas season we're heading in Christmas season it's my daughter and my grandson's
Starting point is 00:11:39 favorite movie it's my favorite Adam Sandler uh man it really is it really is happy Gilmore I can't go past that
Starting point is 00:11:56 I think that has to be the one that that I did not like the serious role that he did as a jeweler two years ago everybody gave him predate it was terrible it was tough it was terrible um yeah it was terrible it wasn't uh from the text line uh most of us friends uh to call either one of those guys yeah i mean they're both actors i mean
Starting point is 00:12:20 adam sandler has done some some some really good work and he's done some some really funny movies will feral has been funny and he's played but he will feral almost plays the same guy every movie like literally the same guy in various phases but he plays them well so because he's every man and that's why why people love him sandler has evolved i mean like you know sandler has done like what 50 dates where she can't drew barry more she can't remember you know and he he does it and he starts over like they will make him uh they will try to make him a romantic interest which is later which is hilarious but okay so real real talk though Adam Sandler may be the most popular person all of Hollywood like he may be the person that everybody loves working with the most
Starting point is 00:13:16 it's it's a it's like between him and Paul Rudd are the two that Hollywood people love the most like Adam Sandler's just a good heart like he's just a good heart uh will Ferrell I was on silent and he was at a USC game and he knows his football. Like Will Ferrell knows his football. Like, call him plays and formations. I was like, get him. Get him. So anybody that does it, yeah, uncut gems.
Starting point is 00:13:46 That's the one. I watched, I was, look, that movie was so bad, I was angry. And I haven't been angry at a movie 15 years, 10 years. I was sitting in the movie just angry. Like, what is this? garbaji this is just trash and I felt terrible because I wanted to like it right like I wanted it to be like hey go serious it was awful it was awful me and Becky look at each other and she was like please tell me that you you you wanted to stay because I wanted to leave like five minutes into it
Starting point is 00:14:21 we stayed and I was like no I was hoping you would just give me the nudge and tell me it was okay because we could have left and we were both angry that we stayed the entire movie waiting for the other ones just give the nudge that says no this is garbage or we okay with leaving but lessons learned lessons learned we have a plan now from from this point forward when it comes to movies and you're watching and you just go boop yeah that's not it uh and then i'm going to need you guys help in the last segment it's a quick segment uh i was i was supposed to like we're going to new york for the holidays. And I've seen Hamilton on Broadway,
Starting point is 00:15:03 and I've seen it in Texas. But my rule in my heart is, if I'm in Broadway and Hamilton is playing, I should probably go. I should probably go. I'll need your help in breaking down why. Help me. I'll ask your opinions when we come back.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to one-on-one. with DP on 937 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
