You're listening to one-on-one with DP, brought to you by Beatrice Bakery, on 93-7 The Ticket
and the Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back, final segment of one-on-one.
We'll jump to old school here, top of the hour.
Again, appreciate you guys on the Sardamian Text Line for adding to the conversation and being
thoughtful, why as you do it?
It is appreciated because that's not always what happens.
Sometimes in conversations, we forget.
The conversation is required give and take, listening and hearing.
Wisconsin says hi.
We have comedians on the text line.
It's up, D.P.
You said a bunch of coaches that won't work here.
Who would you pick?
You know what?
I'll give that on Monday.
I'll give that on Monday.
Because some folks I couldn't give my business to.
Can't put their business in the street, man.
As I mentioned, I was talking to Mark just on a break.
I just understand some of the coaches that are being mentioned and, ooh, he'd make a great fit.
Okay.
So consider the things you don't know about those coaches.
Those ones that have investigations pending.
Those of them that have students with academic issues, those that have extracurricular issues,
those folks that have different motivations.
And those are the parts that determine whether a coach would be successful.
all coaches know the X's and O's of it.
But where coaches fail is the same for players.
Every player who's in there has a good enough skill set to play Division I football.
It's the other stuff that gets them beat.
It's the other stuff that gives them losses.
And when you're hiring coaches, especially in a place in the heartlands of America,
middle of America, Lincoln America,
you better know all the particulars about what those coaches are doing.
otherwise you can't just plant somebody here who doesn't have good interest good
heart good intention and and and and the highest motivation what's up D.P who
was Nebraska's recruiting coordinator there's some brothers who do lead and work
high within that stuff so yeah there's a whole conversation that needs to happen
about recruiting that's just me
what's up d p what's up husker fan in manhattan uh the two high safety personnel killed the kegan system
offense unless you have first round draft picks like bam in ohio state yeah because it allows
the defensive coordinators to get lazy it allows the defensive coordinators to get lazy
because when you have guys who can cover the sideline from 40 yards across two guys
guess what you can you can get fancy and cute with cornerbacks and outside lineback
You can get cute with your stunt play because you got cleaners up, cleaner up or is
back there in the middle.
But that's, you know, that's how that work.
That's how that works.
What's up, DP?
What's up, Ohio Husker?
There will be lots of good interest in the Nebraska OC job.
It's not going to be a huge splash hire, and I don't think it should be.
There are plenty of good offensive minds out there that are capable.
We just need a good fit.
Once again, what are you fitting?
Like, what's going to be the objective?
What's going to be the priority with the offensive coordinator of the tire?
Is it that he's going to be one of Scott's boys?
Is he going to run Scott's system?
Will he be compatible with whoever's playing quarterback,
no matter who's playing quarterback?
Does his scheme match the current list of talent that is available?
Does he have the same work ethic as Scott Frost, good or bad?
Can he figure out how to get better usage from this not-so pipeline?
If you haven't figured out what you want the team to be,
you can't go in any positive direction.
Like, what do you want this offense to look like?
Do you want, do you want this offense?
You just want a better version of it?
Do you want a power running game?
Like, what do you, like, nobody here knows what they want the system to be?
And if you tell me you want UCF system, oof, oof.
The UCF system mattered one.
year in the history of college football.
You want Oregon?
Are you going to get Oregon talent to run it?
Heisman trophy winning quarterback type type.
Olympic sprinter type receivers.
Is that what you, is that what we're doing?
A quick run game?
Spreads on spread running game?
Because I thought what I've been here in all years that you need downhill running
game.
Traditional power.
Before you make the decision about who,
who's going to call your place, you better know what you wanted to look like
and what it should not look like.
And we don't know because they ain't tell it.
Statement of truth.
Subtp.
They list themselves as somebody.
If you say fans think they know more than the coach,
we collectively do know to cross the goal line doesn't require shotgun formation.
That is way more.
Somebody I would say that that tells,
there's so much more complexity.
it because the NFL scores a lot from the shotgun.
They really do.
They really do.
There are some programs that score a lot.
Some of the greatest offenses in college football history.
Never got under center.
Not even for short yardage or goal line.
Again, what do you want this to be?
Do you want to, again, a final coordinator that can get you 75% scoring percentage in
short yardage in the red zone under center because that eliminates a whole lot of offensive
coordinators.
It also eliminates a whole lot of running backs that are not at the University of Nebraska.
Just saying, the tech sign money has changed the game.
No QB is willing to come play option football here because who gets zero looks at the NFL.
People need to stop with the option in fullbacks.
We need to find a way to be better at modern football.
If you won exciting, winning modern football, yep.
Well, absolutely true.
Absolutely true.
So there's that.
Nick says we got about a minute left,
so I do want to say thank you for you folks
who have stopped by so far,
but we'll be here at Wingstop.
29th in Pine Lake until 6 o'clock.
Get through here.
You've got some goodies to give away,
and all of that stuff has to be done before 6 o'clock.
If you're on your way,
Down to PBA to watch the Huskers basketball team.
Stop by.
Grab something, nibble in the car, before you enjoy a beverage wherever you're going to be.
We'll take a break.
Top of the hour.
We'll go old school with you.
Live from Winkstop, 29th and Pine Lake.
