You're listening to one-on-one with DP, brought to you by Beatrice Bakery,
on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com.
Final segment, welcome back.
We're going to thank the folks from Beatrice's Bakery.
Mr. Walker, Captain, Sir, have you had one of the cakes?
Yeah, they were great.
I tried them all.
I tried them all, yeah.
Yeah, it's addictive.
I have to tell you.
From the text line, Willard says,
My hat's off to you, Derek.
Thank you for being a part of the Husker family,
and I wish you nothing but the best for you and your teammates this season.
Good luck.
Thank you.
I appreciate it, man.
And I really appreciate being here.
You know, I took a visit here before I even came here when I was young,
so it wasn't selling this place wasn't hard for me.
You know, it's a great place.
I'm glad and, you know, things happen when you get to the right place.
Yeah.
Right time.
Question.
How is Tray McGowan's role transformed?
since his injury, do you think he will come back stronger at certain things than before?
Yeah, he's going to come back stronger, but we got to give him room to find himself again,
though, you know, but he's been vocal, very vocal.
His leadership has stepped up.
I don't know if y'all see him, but he sits on his, like, he kneels on a chair for the whole game for the most part.
He's not a sit-down.
Yeah, I ask him like, bro, did your knee hurt?
Well, he's got the scooter and it's padded, right?
And it's not comfortable.
No, it's not.
It really is not comfortable.
But look, I'm mad respect for it.
Yeah, and I love it, man.
I love when I look over and he's just sitting right there,
just yelling the whole time and talking to everyone.
And I always sitting at the front of the bench and he'll be yelling up to me.
And I love it.
I love it.
You know, he's still there.
I want to ask you about this in the most,
delicate of ways how much attention do do does the men's team pay attention to the seven and
oh women's team um i don't think a lot right i think it's just really me and trevor
well i wasn't going to say like i wasn't going to say like i know y'all pay attention but
i mean like he drove straight into the pool like he don't straight in i wasn't going to put your business
out like i wasn't good but no i like i like it for me um
Because, like, this is the most I've been to
and, like, consecutively.
So, and it's different, you know.
Because, like, when you watch girls,
you don't want to watch girls that's not good.
Right.
You know?
Right.
And these girls can pass, shoot, get to the room.
In a shooting competition.
Yeah.
Between the best shooters on the girls' team and the boys' team,
who wins?
I don't know.
Because I just want to say, you know,
during the opening night,
It's going to be close.
Ashley, Ashley,
Ashley was putting in work.
Ashley can shoot.
Anika can shoot.
Anna can shoot.
Jazz can shoot.
Jazz is, look,
jazz is becoming,
no offense, fellas.
She's becoming my best favorite Husker player.
She is working.
She's good.
She's working.
Here's what I would ask of leadership
on my teams in high school.
So for the boys' teams,
I said,
listen, you want them young ladies
to come support you.
Yeah, you go support them.
You got to come support them.
So I will task you.
you with getting.
There should be at least one game where everybody from the men's team goes to a...
There was some early.
Okay.
There was some early.
So I'm not going to say they've been completely bad because they came to a few games.
What I need is proof in a picture of all the fellas at a girls game that lets me know y'all are handling.
We're going to go back.
Captain, man, we are so proud of you.
Thank you.
Love what you're doing.
Seriously, good stuff along the way.
and go beat North Carolina State.
I got you.
I'll handle that business.
That's Derek Walker, Husker, basketball, captain.
We'll throw it to break when we come back.
Old school Husker Hall of Famer, Jay Foreman, will join us.
Lots to talk about.
We'll break it down for you.
On 93-7, the ticket.
