Starting point is 00:00:00 You live from the couple Chevrolet GMC Studios. Here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery, on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Happy Tuesday. Microphone like a bomb. That's some CM Punk vibe. Use the microphone like a pipe bomb. It's like, go ahead, see, I'm punk. Of course, that's living color personality.
Starting point is 00:00:34 You need to go and get that full album and don't play with just the one song. Go and dive in. 402, 464-5-6-85. Call or text, Honda-Lincoln Hotline is to call. Sartre Haman text line, if you want to do that, you can check us out on the video stream. YouTube, Facebook, Twitch. I'm brought to you by Sartre Haman. And I want to thank the folks from Beatrice's Bakery.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Um, Carter Happer did a really cool thing today with some teachers via Beatrice Bakery. And I thought that was so spectacular. I do want to kind of add to that today to open up. And again, you folks can go to the ticketfm.com and nominate folks who you want to receive care packages or you think you're worthy of consideration. you know it can be it can be friends and family look if folks have a reason to celebrate or need a pick me up that's the way to do it that is the exact way to do it and so because of that we get nominations and sometimes the nominations resonate real heavy and I'd like to kind of jump on top of that and work from that because there was a pretty good space
Starting point is 00:01:54 in this case. The nomination was for Terry Nevinne. Terry Neveen, who spent 30 years in a classroom teaching kindergarten in first grade. She now wears as many hats as she helps with curriculum, standardized testing, individual reading instruction, among other things. The most impressive, though, is her dedication to helping students maximize by utilizing a strength program. students and their teachers understand why they behave a certain way. And what's the best method of learning is for each individual has a lot of council students
Starting point is 00:02:34 a more fulfilling, worthwhile experience. Terry deserves any recognition she can get. I believe she works at Freeman Public Schools. And so, you know, we celebrate teachers. Like folks who will do what they do, so we'll put together a care package for Terry Thank you for the submission. There'll be others throughout the course of the week. Tomorrow, it'll be Tom and Bach, and they will nominate somebody.
Starting point is 00:03:03 And again, you can, you know, if you feel like somebody deserves consideration, just go to the website or you can, you know, jump on the text line. Most of those will pay attention to and get them to, and that's what we'll do. I think that's a good move for teachers who are just doing the good, good work. So there's that. I wanted to start off the show with something positive. because it's been a weird, weird day. I need to repeat a thing so that we're on the same page.
Starting point is 00:03:37 And I want to say this to, I want to say this to Nick. See, what day is it? What day is today, Nick? What happened on Monday? What happened on Monday? Don't you steal my joy, Nick. Do not steal my joy. The rules are simple.
Starting point is 00:04:03 If there is a day when it happens, we celebrate victories. And when Washington has a victory, there's only one way to start the show. Hit my music. That drumbeat will change your day. That's when you know you're living right. Anytime. time a drumline celebrates you. It is a win you need to celebrate. I actually saw a Nebraska drumline putting their work in private. And I went, how come you guys don't do that in public?
Starting point is 00:04:56 So all of you Nebraska drumline people, tell me why you guys don't do those at the game. Tell me, explain to me how you can drop that beat and have that kind of energy and then don't play it at a game. That was wild. No, I mean, like, I was ready. I had it loaded up and I was like, oh, but he's not getting that. I thought maybe at the start of old school we'll do it. So I walked out working on. We are not limited to one.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? Look, all victories count. And I, look, we're in Nebraska. Look, right? So whenever you get to celebrate a victory, you better celebrate that thing. You better celebrate it. Like, that's the mood.
Starting point is 00:05:42 So whatever. Textline, you guys let me know. What's the appropriate way to celebrate a Nebraska victory in any sport? In any sport. So let's say for football, they win on Saturday. What should be the first song played Monday? Because some people will say, we'll just play the fight song. But there are other people who say that they fatigue of that.
Starting point is 00:06:13 what should be the fights? What should be the number one song being played? Like different places I know what that song's going to be. So it's always important. From the Sart of Hamer text line, Brian says, is there a way to see past winning nominees for the Beatrice Baker gives? Explain that to me.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Is there a way to see past? Oh, you mean, oh, the past. Oh, oh, oh, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. I don't know. We should have a roll call. maybe starting forward. We would have a roll call, but no. Because we, sometimes we will, so each show will do that on their day.
Starting point is 00:06:55 So early break, we'll do it on Monday since they're the first show of the week. The second show of the day, first show of the day. Second show of the day is Happer and Schaefer. So they go on the second day, which is Tuesday. Tomorrow's Tom and Bach, because that's the third show, etc. And then through that, you will. will often on this show, because there's B. Ashter Baker is a sponsor of this particular hour of radio, that if you ever feel like you have a story to tell or a story to share and you want that person to be
Starting point is 00:07:30 considered, reach out. Reach out. I mean, listen, for some folks, it has been because they had a great day at work or they got a new job or we have. We have. had one lady, we had one lady texted and said, listen, I finally got a divorce. I need cake. I was like, yes, ma'am, come get it. Come get it. Come get it. And she actually went in the, like we've got a little space where the different samples are. And she, she grabbed a whole, like, sample box of the small snack fruitcakes. And then she got halfway out the door and she paused and went, wait, is that chocolate? And I'm like, yep. She goes, what kind of chocolate? Well, we have chocolate Merleau and chocolate rum.
Starting point is 00:08:19 And she was like, chocolate rum. And we sent her out. So her and her girlfriends had cake and wine that night, cake, wine and ice cream to celebrate. Right? So it's simple. You know, we had people who are just grinding. People who are just trying to get through the day
Starting point is 00:08:36 and they just want something to kind of change the momentum of the day from negative to positive. And that's what's there. And then you have people for birthdays, right? We had people that, you know, look, my girlfriend's got a birthday. Got you. Come come get something. Put a bow on it.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Let's go. But you can, right through the website, just go to Ticketfm.com. Or you can put those nomination suggestions here in the text line. And we'll get to them. It's much more official if it's through the website. But here on the text line, I mean, sometimes I'll just read the text and it'll move me to say yes. So for whatever the reason. in answering to what should be played after a win.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Dance is all I need is a miracle. Can you feel it by Michael Jackson? Yeah, I'm with that. Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. Fair, fair. Very good. You can never go wrong with Hallelujah. You just, you can't.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Kopsker says, what's up, DP? What's up, Kups here? For me, it's Big Red Anthem 2. Hmm. Hmm. let's keep plugging. Let's keep plugging. Let me know, and we'll put Nick to work.
Starting point is 00:09:51 We'll put Nick to work to get that through. Because I think that in this particular space, there's always room for sports, but there's always better room for doing well by others, for others. My champion, says Cheeseburger, Alter Bridge. That's pretty good. From the karate kid, just the part where they sing, I'm the best around.
Starting point is 00:10:21 That's pretty good. That's pretty good. That's pretty good. Hey, DP, what's up? This is Eric from Popeyes. What's up, Eric? I said, should play the Killigans, the Cornhusker. It's got deeper roots with the university than people realize.
Starting point is 00:10:37 We know that, yeah. So we had, I believe, the lead singer from the Killigan's come on when I was with Tom Stevens. and they came on and we play, of course, we played the course of it. Yeah, I mean, there is the connection. I think something should be right when the thing that universally across the state people will celebrate. Can you feel it for me? It needs to be played at the stadium again. Yeah, like that seems to be a good one just because it's got a great little intro to it.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Don says, hey, DP, what's up? What's up, Don? My suggestion is ceiling can't hold us, McLemore. Would those folks at the stadium play McNamore? Would that be? Hmm. Hmm. Pickle ricks.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Guys, do not play any Killigan's. Killigan seems to, there seems to be a line in the sand between Husker fans. when it comes to kill against people are usually either all for it or please goodness gracious don't um you guys will have to explain that to me as well you guys have to explain that to me as well i'm not real sure what what's why is there killigan's hate for for for i mean they're connected to the university right shouldn't that get you in the door at least i hope it would so yeah i think we need to to land on whatever the victory song is right so and then get to to the place like i thought so i was around when dj cool
Starting point is 00:12:25 was hot and happening so when i found out that you guys were using one of his songs here i was like okay well done of course you don't do that anymore so somebody tell me why that stopped why is that not the third third quarter fourth quarter brian said the killigans is like fingernails on the chalkboard. See, that's my point. I know that half the fan base loves it and half the fan base would rather not. I don't have skin in the game, so I'm going to pay attention to what you guys tell me on this thing. Jake says, it has to be, let me clear my throat. The night they played it fourth quarter, we beat Sparty was amazing. Goose bumps. Yeah, I mean, that's, that's, why would that, why is that, why is that removed?
Starting point is 00:13:14 Why is that not currently the jam that they play as you leave the third quarter and go to the fourth quarter? I mean, it's a party song. It's a party song. When I first got here and they stopped playing that, and I recommended it. I said, what do you want? I said, DMX, you know, y'all going to make me lose my mind up and here, up in here. Just for the beat, just for the intro and the fact that they yell woo, and then whatever happens after that is money.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Mark, you're there. Maybe you can explain this thing to me. Maybe you can explain this to me. Yeah. So there's two questions. All right. So Mark is going to join me. I've got two questions for him because he's a bit of a music historian when it comes
Starting point is 00:14:01 to the stuff. He can answer some questions for me. Okay. So half the Husker fan base is all in on Killigan's. The other half says it's like fingernails till chalkboard. Yeah. Where do you stand? Oh, I'm all in.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I'm all in. I've always said any song that I can sing. along too, I love. Okay. And they put the words right up on the screen for you. I don't even have to memorize them. But from that, so it doesn't matter what the song is as long as they put the words up. Sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:26 But you don't have... Look, I just like to sing. Right, right. But you don't have... Okay. No, no, no. But I think where people kind of have a hard time with it is it was kind of forced down their throat a little bit. The Killigan. Yeah, the Killigans. Because it... They were just kind of told, here's your song. Please love it.
Starting point is 00:14:42 please sing it, please shout it, without it coming from the fans themselves. It was just presented. Right. So it's just rebellion. I think that's a lot of it. Yeah. It's not the actual song.
Starting point is 00:14:58 It's just the fact that you were told to like it. I do think that's a lot of it. And then I don't know if it resonates with, you know, the players themselves or anything like that. For me sitting in the stands, I just, I like to shout about the scarlet and the car. cream, you know, it's fun. Have somebody from the text on that says, all these people that hate the Killigans haven't been to one of their St. Patrick's Day shows. That sounds like fun. Have you, so have you
Starting point is 00:15:21 I have not? I've not. That sounds like fun though. I would. Okay. So we will need for Nick to find out if there is a St. Patrick's Day show for Killigans. Can you find out if there's a St. Patrick's day show for Killigans? And how do we emcee it? Well, well, either emcee it or we will get them in here before they go to do their show. Perfect. Right? Right. If we don't, if we don't dislike it. guys were talking about it i'll tell you this the students hate it why i i don't know why it's not theirs it's just not there's not like the student section doesn't like singing it what do you what do the student section want to say what do you want to say i don't know i i i can't see that's but i'm rare i'm rarely in the student section so i just don't excuse us he big times them
Starting point is 00:16:03 yeah right wow why you go why you know no i just saying like i why you go all snooty on your like those are your people uh i go down to the sideline no no that is not what i'm saying at all. Deuces. I'm saying that I just don't spend the money for a student ticket. Oh, look. Because let's be real. I mean, I ain't trying to spend the money on.
Starting point is 00:16:25 They got those prices still expensive for a three and nine team. That's all I'm saying. Wow, look at you, I take. All I'm saying, you can get into the Husker women's basketball games for free as a student, and those ladies are winning. Fair. But why is that? You can get into baseball for free.
Starting point is 00:16:42 they win. I will happily go for free. You know what I miss? We're getting off topic here. But the little popcorn box tops that gave you the free admission to everything? Softball, baseball, women's basketball, they got them. You just get in for free. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Yeah, that's how I got. They did away with all that. That's how we always went to softball games. Yeah. It was like the take five. So why don't they do that? I don't know. Like, what's the popcorn place?
Starting point is 00:17:05 Kobe Ridge? Kobe Ridge. Yeah. Yeah. Like, why wouldn't they just like sponsor those like a bottom of a bag or something? No idea. But, yeah, I mean, like the tickets for those take fives, like at the Devani were those wooden benches at the top. But I didn't care.
Starting point is 00:17:19 I was eight years old going to a Husker women's basketball game when they were 10 and 0. What do you want to sing? So what was, let me climb my throat. What was? That was a good one. Yeah, the problem with that one was that it was debuted at such a high, right? As you're beating Michigan State. And then they tried to reserve it for those moments.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Right. Like, it wasn't going to be automatically at the beginning of the fourth quarter. it was going to be when something special happens, we're going to play it. So you don't want to play it while you're losing. And then nothing special happened anymore. Jake's singing the stupid song. I just hear him singing those.
Starting point is 00:17:53 What's Scarlet? Nebraska and the cream. Yeah, like I honestly don't mind. That's in the system, isn't it? I'm sure it is. It's in the system. So we absolutely have to. Just for point of reference,
Starting point is 00:18:04 because a lot of people don't. Half-time Young Thug. I don't know. I always liked, I was, I was disappointed when Can You Feel It left the Husker basketball games. Oh, did it? That's what somebody said on the text. Husker Men's basketball got super hype when it was, Can You Feel it?
Starting point is 00:18:21 I didn't realize it went away. That's what DeBrests Tim Miles fans says. We do absolutely need to talk about why Husker basketball does not play King of Houses cover of Michael Jackson's. Can You Feel It to start the game anymore. It is a trotely. I got to say I was out on that one. Really? I was out on that.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Why not play the original, though? Good question. I was out on this version because it just never built anywhere. It just kind of kept going. I wanted something with a little crescendo, a little movement to it. It just didn't have it. It just kind of kept going. And there are a ton of people on the text on it said,
Starting point is 00:18:53 I had season tickets to all the box top sports from one football game. Yeah. Like that's what I'm saying. With those take fives, you got to go to softball, you got to go to women's basketball. So any of the non-major? Yeah, I'm guessing so. But the weird thing about that? But why would you consider women's basketball?
Starting point is 00:19:09 basketball and non-maid. Well, and that's what I was going to say is the weird thing. Back in those days, it was, I mean, Lindsay Moore, Kelsey Griffin, Dominic, Kelly, like those ladies were taking them to 24 and 0 seasons. Mark has the look that he has the song. Oh, I do have this song. Are we ready for it? He's found it.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Just so we get some point of measure for what this is. I will say this. I'm sorry. I'm inside my, in my heart of hearts. I am laughing like a 10-year-old. I'm trying to be a grown-up in this thing. Because, see, you guys, you missed Nick. Nick does a body movement that happens.
Starting point is 00:20:10 And I'm not sure what, like, how you would. It's almost like right before you throw up, but you don't throw up. It's like you. It was. It's like, it's a haunt, right? And then, yeah, and it's like, oh, and then he throws a fist pump in it. So if you're about to throw up, but it's like a dry heave and then you fist pump, that's what Nick does.
Starting point is 00:20:33 That's what Nick just said. That's him at the St. Paddy's Day party. Yes. The whole time all night. It'll be me at the Christmas party as well. Just you guys wait. But no, I will say with that. Oh, there will be video, live videos straight at the Christmas party, just for the record.
Starting point is 00:20:45 With that, with that song, if they didn't put the lyrics up on the screen, I would have no clue what they say. But they do. They do. This is what I'm saying that that's how, when they have to put the lyrics up on the screen, that's when you know it's not a good choice. No, not true. Really? Not true. Not true.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Point of reference to that. lift every voice insane. That's a very... The women's... I mean, I've been to the women's games quite a bit this year and... The men do it as well. The men do as well, yes.
Starting point is 00:21:12 But that's a really cool beat that they have with this. So here's a couple of things in this. So just from the text line. The text line, the last eight texts have gone across the board against that song. Like some people have said that that thing,
Starting point is 00:21:26 they referred to that bag do something to a bag of things. Can you tell me... Can you tell me why, though? Like, what do you have against it? Don't just say this is bad. Tell me why it's bad. Well, Taylor says, I cannot stand that song.
Starting point is 00:21:41 It might be the worst thing ever written about the Huskers. That was Mark. We're just going to have this at the drop. Like, just from now on. Anytime I'm in here. Right. That could be your introduction. You should be.
Starting point is 00:22:02 You should have it on your phone. You should have your phone. Anytime you walk into a room. Yeah, yeah. Just playing. I'm in. Whereas I would be on the other side. Let me clear my throat.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Sure. Should be like what place for me when I walk into a room. And I'm firmly. Okay. So there is some understanding now of why, what that is and what the split is. Yeah. But I think it leads me to a greater question.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Why is it free for women's basketball, but not free for men's basketball? Well, if you're just looking at empty seats, there are more empty seats to give away at a women's basketball game. But the best way to create interest is to reduce the number of tickets available. Correct? Don't you want the students there? Like above everybody else, you want the students there?
Starting point is 00:23:00 Absolutely. Okay, so whatever number of students, Connor was doing a story earlier today about a school in Texas where they just made it students only for a game. For a game, yeah. And it was crazy. So if you did that for a game, pick. Kennesaw State. Sure.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Right? And said, listen, students just walk up. Yeah, this one's for you. It's for you. What would be wrong? Because wouldn't that draw more interest? Absolutely. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Yeah. They've never had to do that for men's basketball, right? Because the interest is there. So I think that's what the end goal would be with doing that for women's basketball. Even baseball, I don't think they get a huge student turnout for baseball. So telling them, just come. Just walk in the door and come check it out. We want you here.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Yeah. It doesn't make sense to me that basketball, women's basketball and or softball, right? Simply market better and that should draw people. It should. Yeah. Are there any other sports that students get in for free? Oh, I think basically anything except for, and Nick, correct me if I'm wrong, but football, men's basketball and volleyball, right?
Starting point is 00:24:11 The rest of them you can pretty much walk in on, right? Yeah, yeah. But they don't, they don't, so let me get this straight. So as a part of your tuition, you don't get tickets? What? No, the football ones are actually pretty expensive, which is why I've not bought it. It's not a part of your tuition? Nope.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Oh, let me stop telling on people then. So what, yeah, so what happens is like, with the Michigan game, I wanted to go and I was like, yeah, I'll sit in the student section for that one. So I bought a ticket for somebody was selling them for $75. I was like, there's no way I'm buying a single student. Well, you can't you get all? You get the whole season for that, can't you? And so I, what's, what's the discount? Like what you're not paying face value, are you? No, no, no, it's not face value. It's, you buy all the season the season at once. But it's like 20 bucks, 25 bucks a player, person, right? A student.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Not for the season. Not for the season. No, no, 25 bucks a game. Maybe. It's, it's, I don't know, it's a few hundred bucks. So football is 173. 173. Okay. Okay. Okay. So that's about 25. Volleyball is 85. Men's basketball is 50. 50 for the season? 50 for the season for men's basketball, volleyball is 85.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Okay. Okay. So I'm here for the students, right? So University of Nebraska, DP here. Hello. Hi. What can we help you with today? So what I would offer for you, for the people that you're actually supposed to be doing this for?
Starting point is 00:25:45 How about you apply that all of those ticket fees into the tuition so that we don't have to worry about it? Because it seems a bit exclusive. Put it into tuition because we don't know what's in the tuition anyway. So if they added another 400 bucks for season tickets for every event. And then is it what? Just the first 5,000 students that show up get in? Imagine creating an interest. Well, so...
Starting point is 00:26:20 Imagine creating some urgency for people coming to games and getting there early. Time out, time, not, time out. We need to turn that real quick. Let me... Hold your thought. Hold you thought. I have a story. Hold your thought.
Starting point is 00:26:35 So give me that story after the break. Sounds good. All right. It's one-on-one on 937 a second. Download our app by searching 93.7 the ticket in your app store. You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 90s. 37 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
