Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to one-on-one with DP. Brought to you by Beatrice Bakery. On 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Welcome back final segment, one-on-one, Sean Callahan Husker online. Again, we're live with Tanners. We're doing our jersey, signed jersey giveaway. You have until right about 545 to get down here. Get your name in.
Starting point is 00:00:30 It doesn't cost you anything. Just put your name on a piece of paper, put it in the box, and we'll draw a winner. today it's a signed Dean Steincold jersey all you got to do is show up and make an appearance Sean we're talking about this the whole BYU you thing and that there is a booster in air quotes who decided to pay the tuition of all of the members on the walk all the walk-on student athletes for football and I said that That's fine in theory, but what happens when the NCAA says, that is in-kind scholarships. So you're going over whatever the number we've set as a maximum.
Starting point is 00:01:17 And then this booster said, well, no, I'm making them employees of the company. We've opened up Pandora's box. I mean, the thing about NIL is there is no market value. You decide as a business owner what market value is. And that is the slippery slope here. Because like I said in the previous segment, we all thought, oh, these are cute little burrito deals for a tweet. Cool.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Well, no. No. Like, this is turning into like, I mean, business. Like a basketball player running a camp getting $10,000 for two hours. I mean, that's what's going to start to happen. And you use that in recruiting. and you show this data to recruits like you come here this is what our starting five made in basketball right and i had somebody tell me right away they go you watch b yu is going to race out in front of this
Starting point is 00:02:13 oh there because they are one it's a one horse race every but they want they're going to the big 12 but all of their money is in one hat and they they have money he gave so he paid the the scholarship money the tuition money and the and a woman board for all ever i believe it was 65 players and then he then took everybody who was on scholarship and made them a consultant for the company for $5,000 each yeah and that's just having endless money that instead of giving your donation of the school you're you're kind of redirecting it to the athletes through an nile deal how does that play here i so as you know know open doors is big and they're a national you know they do a lot of they're in several programs yeah i mean and and they also are servicing software so like every deal like a lot of schools have you report
Starting point is 00:03:11 your nil deal through their platform almost like a quickbooks you know and if they if you if you get paid out through an i l deal there's a 2.7 like a credit card fee on the deal i mean i mean it really reminds you of like getting paid on quickbooks or something or bill dot com or you know like they do and then they can also set up deals and they get a cut of those deals as the middleman. But then there's ABM here in Lincoln. And I think that's kind of, you know, getting all of your top boosters into one hat and organizing it and then creating legitimate NIL deals with your top supporters. That's where it's going to head.
Starting point is 00:03:49 So how quickly does Nebraska have a booster who steps up to offer walk-ons free tuition? I mean, I think it's closer than you think. think. I think there's creative ways you can do it. You know, like the old beef cattle club of Nebraska football. I think there's a way that it can be done. And it'll be interesting to see. And I don't know if they would do everyone.
Starting point is 00:04:16 But I think when you see like 10 guys a year going to South Dakota State or North Dakota State, those are the guys that you offer to walk on and they took the scholarship. And like if you walk on here, you will get an. NIL deals and then that will basically pay for your is that is that the change in branding and marketing that's coming I think you're going to see it I think Nebraska is just and I know people want NIL to be more impactful at Nebraska than it is but it's starting to be very impactful it just takes time like this is going to be something down the road that's going to have more impact than like immediately right now and I think the focus on NIL today for like around the football
Starting point is 00:04:57 program is re-recruiting your guys that you want to come back to school. Yeah. The Cam Taylor Brits and the Adrian. I mean, those types of players that have a decision to make. And then also, you know, if there are transfer portal guys out there, I mean, NIL might have to play a factor in swaying a guy. Like if you come here, you're going to have NIL opportunities that you're not going to get there.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Your thoughts, before we get out of here. Do Adrian and Cam come back? Cam Taylor Britt? Britt. I think Cam Taylor, Britt, if I had a guess, I think he's leaning towards going with Adrian. I think here's his choices right now. Come back to Nebraska, retire, or go to the transfer portal. I just don't obviously think NFL right now is a possibility.
Starting point is 00:05:41 And I think things have changed a lot in the last week. I mean, when you get booed in your own stadium, that's tough. So you just wonder where his head's at right now. And if he wants to endure more of this this year, Yeah, Sean, it's going to get more interesting quickly. What do you think happens Saturday? I got Ohio State by, I mean, 41-24 type deal. Okay, fair enough.
Starting point is 00:06:06 That's Sean Callahan Husker online one-on-one. We appreciate to stay too. Old school up next. Don't go anywhere.
