You're listening to One-on-One with DP.
Brought to you by Beatrice Bakery.
On 93-7 The Ticket and The Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back one-on-one.
Good thank you, folks.
I'm starting a human text line.
If you are listening and feel like we're being negative on the station,
I'll ask you to actually listen to us.
Does it appear that I'm doing anything but answering questions?
Like I literally started to show by trying to make you and Rico smile.
That was like the first seven minutes of the segment.
Now, we're about joy and truth here.
I don't know.
I don't know what you came for.
That's what you're going to get.
Back to the start of him and tech sign.
What's up, DP?
What's up?
What's the one most area to fix this off season?
One.
There's several.
One, if I'm only going to fix one, I'm going to make a decision.
pretty quickly about the leadership
and the people that are going to be tasked with it.
There's a checklist, though,
because you've got to figure out what you're going to do a quarterback
and make a decision or have the decision made.
You've got to fix the things that have not gone well.
You've got to find a kicker.
You've got to tighten up the offensive line.
You've got to, you know,
And these are things that the coaching staff would say and the players would say and have said on this very show.
So what we're doing is reaching into what they've said and sharing it.
D.P. said, hey, D.P. love to show. Gerald, appreciate you, brother.
greatly appreciate it. Good stuff. Faisal says, what's up, D.P.?
How mad are you if you are a senior player on the defense? Never got to go to a bowl.
And it's because the offense is not only terrible, but voted against playing last year.
That's the cultural thing that we try to stay away from because, in truth,
there are times in defense could have made plays that would have made a difference as well.
And that goes against the team aspect, is to identify that we're trying to get everything right.
If you're a senior and you had five or six opportunities,
oh, you figure out a way.
You figure out a way.
I think the ball game is a missed opportunity.
That's just me.
But I won't speak for the seniors.
In the upcoming days, I allow all the seniors to speak for themselves
on how they feel about that.
And they've been open to it.
So I allowed them to do that.
Eric says,
What's up, D.P.
Do you think Adrian Martinez will look good in a Wisconsin badger's uniform next year?
I think he'll look good in a Nebraska uniform next year.
But that's just me.
That's just my opinion.
Because you don't have a better, do you have a better option is what I would ask you?
Like it's easy to say, you know, from this standpoint, but you want somebody there,
and then you need to get that person, no matter who it is, the pieces around it that they're going to need.
Dakota says, what's up, DP, what's up Dakota?
I wanted to work with, wanted it to work with Frost.
But I've lost faith.
he's willing to make changes necessary to develop the program.
He's too stubborn.
We've seen four years of data to prove that.
Yeah, what I would imagine is that in a discussion or in several discussions that a change of direction or philosophy was brought up and that at some point he recognizes you cannot do the same things you're doing it to say when you've done it and expect any other result than what you have.
so I won't speak to the stubbornness the four years of data are factual so you know and then the changes
yeah I would think that there's a thing that happens within programs with coaches with players
with fans and at some point you can be settled into what you do as long as it's successful
but if it's not successful at some point getting getting your teeth
kicked in, you either get up and defend yourself, change how you fight, or change how you
prepare, or you stop fight.
And I don't think Scott's the type that's going to stop fighting.
So he will have to change what he does in order to get the desired results.
And it doesn't mean be a different person.
I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about small things that will fix the small things that are there.
Big Frank says, what's up, DP?
What's up, Big Frank?
Bear minimum that needs to be done is fire one of the.
the linebacker coaches and bring in a dedicated special teams coach.
No good team has two linebacker coaches and no special teams coach.
Now, there are several that work from that philosophy,
but this program is specific in that it needs special teams as a priority and a focus.
Somebody has to be accountable for it.
Look, but my frustration about special teams is that this is a conversation we've had the last two years.
we've had this conversation
and it's the same conversation
and when I said you need to
you know you need to focus on it people
some folks some listeners say well no that's not
no no no no you need folks on
and the person that's responsible for it
is the person in charge
so you make a decision and then you ride
with that decision so
yeah
right
Eric says what's up DP
what's up Eric
The season starts tomorrow night.
Go Husker ballers.
Yeah, man.
It's a good day.
Ohio Husker says, what's up, D.P.?
What's up?
Ohio Husker.
Appreciate you, man.
Yeah.
Husker fan of Manhattan says,
What's up, D.P.?
What's up?
Is Texas recruitment that important?
Having a plan and a protocol for whoever you recruit is important.
And it certainly doesn't hurt to have some.
hands in and access to Texas' talent.
Just from a mass number of people in the space, there's a lot to choose from.
And there are a lot of folks who get missed in the process.
So, yeah, it would be helpful to be good in Texas.
But it also would be helpful for them to know what they're going to do with them when they get here.
Have a plan for how are you going to do this.
um
11 says if you were also if you're being negative it would be
it would be totally justified we're three and seven
that's a statement of fact you're three and seven um
texture again you know the simple business
you know say hi to me that's what I would what I would say about the
text line becomes too anonymous and it's just random to just shoot stuff at
somebody that's like you yelling from the rafters uh this is family and
friends so you know say what's up DP at least give me a pat on the back
or something.
Shoot me a fist bump or something.
Gabe said, I've never heard you be negative.
You state facts and the feelings.
But DP, you're probably the most positive thinking person ever.
And Rico, Bach, and the rest are just upset fans are like we are,
but they still make it lighthearted and funny.
Like, nobody's trying to, like, just come in here and throw darts
and swing a saber and throw shot puts in and blindness.
Nobody's really trying to do that.
But speaking fact, look, if you don't want facts, I can't help you.
That's a you thing.
That's not a me or a 93-7 ticket thing.
Look, whether you like it or not,
we're media and entertainer,
so guess what?
We are accountable for what we say.
You can say whatever you want.
Reality is, I'm going to state facts and then ask your opinion.
So that's where I am with it.
Gene and Lincoln says, what's up, DP?
What's up, Gene?
Question about the remainder this year.
Can we read anything into the next two games?
pressures off frost and keeping his job pressures off the team because they have nothing
enough to play for it.
But today are we getting to see for the first time in a while what a team that's just playing
to play looks like.
No, you've seen it for the last several years.
That's not new.
That's not new.
That's not new.
And look, I get you want to take some of the pressure off.
I get that.
so you can go and recruit.
But if you're going to make changes,
then, you know,
giving the real picture of what it's going to look like going forward
would be helpful.
And yeah, Scott Frost is in charge,
so that's a constant.
And you can go out and that'll be the message
that the recruiters go out with.
But the reality is if you're a player in the positions of neat,
so I would imagine that the people that are being recruited heavily now
are people that can help or fit in positions next year,
in positions of need.
And if they're positions of need, the people that we're talking about,
generally those are the rooms where the assistants that are fans of saying,
hey, those are the assistants you need to change.
So how are you going to recruit to position groups where you're not sure who's going to run it?
And who's committing to that?
Like what mom and dad are going to commit their kid to a situation where they're not sure
who's going to be in charge of taking care of their baby?
Don says, hey, DP, what's up? Don.
Non-Husker football question.
My son's football team didn't win this year's championship.
However, still have one more chance.
Next year before moving up into high school,
what words of encouragement would you use to help these young boys prepare for next season?
Enjoy yourself.
Enjoy yourself.
Because they're playing with friends, and they're playing a sport they love,
and quite frankly, no scholarships are being won before you get to high school.
So tell them and enjoy them.
Come enjoy the company they have.
Enjoy the people you're playing with.
Enjoy the hanging out before and after.
Enjoy learning how to play the game at a higher level and get better.
Like if you're working on getting better, like that's the thing.
So that takes you to every day.
Just enjoy yourself and get better.
It's too early for anything else.
winning championships that at that age is good
because you learn how to win
and you're getting paid off for it.
But if you didn't win a championship,
there's a whole lot more left on the table
for you to get enjoyment from.
Yeah, there's several different things in space here.
We'll do that.
Husker fans says, what's up, DP?
Okay, soapbox time.
Last year, everyone wanted shenan or fired.
Now look at the defense.
I don't remember.
the Shenander fire campaign.
Maybe I had blinders on it. I don't remember it.
But no.
I mean, he had people returning.
Like, why would you beat up Shenander?
Rodney says, what's up, D.P.?
What's up, Rodney?
How do we get quality assistant coaches if he goes away from some of his current staff
when they think they may be only there for one year?
Quality is quality.
and if you have somebody for a year and their quality,
the program will be better for it.
Like don't commit yourself long-term to somebody
just because they're willing to commit long-term for you.
That's how you got here.
Don't do that.
Get you somebody that knows how to coach the group
and will represent the space that you're in.
So make sure they're representing Nebraska football in the right way.
Cleveland Mike says, what's up, DP?
What's up, Cleveland, Mike?
Do you think that the administration looked at any
other coaches availability before they decided to stick with Frost?
I think they knew what they wanted, and I think they had everything covered.
So if they wanted to stick with Scott Frost, they did.
If they thought that they couldn't come to some agreement, that was a whole other discussion.
So I would agree with whatever the administration's,
said.
Interesting poll, what's up from Ohio Husker?
Yeah, on where people, 62% of people support Scott Frost returning.
Okay.
Again, I'm not here to tell people how to see you.
I don't make the news.
If folks want Scott Frost, then be willing to accept what comes from having Scott Frost.
and you can't tell me what you expect from Scott Frost
because you haven't seen it from Scott Frost here.
So we're looking for another thing and that's cool.
Fingers cross, eyes forward.
I give the same respect to Fred Hoyberg.
He won seven games two years in a row.
Is that what you expect the standard to be?
No.
That's what it currently is.
And he has an opportunity to change it.
So there's that.
Well, toward the break.
We come back.
We'll close out one-on-one.
and then we'll have Matt Abdomasi at 4 o'clock.
Jay Forman will be here.
Nick will give away some certificates for Upside for tonight.
We'll let him do some Nick Trivia and we'll do that.
He was so afraid I was going to say Nick Carrioki.
He was so afraid.
Like the look on his face was there.
But we'll close out one-on-one with the rest of your texts first.
Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch.
You're listening to One-on-One with you.
DP on 937 the ticket and the ticketfm.com.
