Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to one-on-one with D.P. Brought to you by Beatrice Bakery. On 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com. Welcome back one-on-one, except for now. We're in the midst of a double team. You know, I had to get my gap. I was trying to get my hands in place, but their arms are longer than mine.
Starting point is 00:00:23 So when they shoot, it's a little bit. I just want to say that Nick, Nick, Nick bailed. He bounced. He bounced. Well, well, see, here's the thing. What happens? right that you want to give people a chance to see nick talk big game wait i bailed yeah you we did i bail did i bail you bail like we said i just we like we have the cameras right yeah
Starting point is 00:00:50 and to show the average human what it feels like to actually be across from or trying to get you're extending your hands on a large individual human being because once you know the reality you will talk about it differently. So I'm not asking. Do you want to do this? Well, you can get right in front of the camera there, right? Well, just, look, he's not going to throw you across the room. Oh, I know that.
Starting point is 00:01:17 He just, I just want you to see how quickly. And when you feel his hands hit you. Okay. Just the force. I just so you know. And Mark, I'm while you are here. Look at Mark. Mark is over there.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Stacey, he's ready, right? He ready. Okay, so take your headphones off, Nick. Take the headphones off. And again, if you folks are on the starter, him and video stream you get to see this i will describe it for you riko is in the you see where riko is like riko on the other side of glass like they are more than slightly curious all right boogie stand up stand up you take the headset off i'll get deitre make sure that make sure we
Starting point is 00:01:51 get it right it's small space small space so now mr flag football all-american like he said he was crystal lobby running routes and then he ended up having to play right tackle and gave up like almost a game losing sack but that's okay that's okay okay so hands on right nick extend your hands extend your no do not fall backwards extend your no no extend your hands toward him like you want to block okay right now when when deep bogey extends his arms against you now first of all he not going to let you get to him first so then he's going to go inside you and change your life his hands are going to shoot inside of yours and get to you what will be your breastplate
Starting point is 00:02:36 or under your underarm, and he is going to scare parts of you that you didn't know existed. Drop the phone. Drop the phone. Bookie gone. Gone to give him a quick press. Give him a quick press.
Starting point is 00:02:51 You see it? Did you see his eyes? D'Andre, did you see his eyes? That's nothing like his strike. Let me just say that. Oh. He was a strike came in this over. Oh.
Starting point is 00:03:02 So one thing, what thing we do know, is one arm. Yeah. It's longer than both. Right. There we go. They're blocking the leash right there. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That is that. See? So now you have an understanding of how violent that is. Nick is just like, okay, I need to go home. I need to go. Yeah. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Rico. Right. Just, we understand. You got to go to the bathroom. John. He says he's got to go to bathroom. De Andre Thomas and David Daniels with us in studio. And again, I appreciate you guys coming and doing this.
Starting point is 00:03:33 because the narrative out there often is stuff talked about about you without you being able to talk about yourself and no matter what the people with a microphone know I can't possibly know the things about you unless I get close enough this fan base wants to know you and I just want this to be the place where you come and have those discussions let people know I mean of course we got apparently we have like 50 Cowboys fans and now all of a sudden y'all their favorite players
Starting point is 00:04:08 because y'all cowboys fans too. Boo y'all. From the text line, their mentality is a total 180 from where we used to have the last six years. Congrats, guys, we love you. Don't let the negative force hit you because Husker Nation is behind you. And when they hear that, you know what, you're not satisfied. with three and five.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Like, you're not. If you, you guys know whether you're playing the standard or not, you guys know, I can ask you. Are you guys happy with the way the season's gone so far?
Starting point is 00:04:45 No. Not at all. The team that we know we are, not happy at all. Right? So what do you do starting tomorrow? What do you do?
Starting point is 00:04:56 Because I say this, and I've set it on air here, and I'm consistent in it. You're not going to be the team you want until you get the next game right. Like it's about Purdue. About nothing else. Not worried about Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Not worried about Minnesota anymore. It's about Purdue. And when you look at Purdue and you look at their tape, they do a lot of different motions, they come with a different formation. They've got three different quarterbacks that they run out there. You know, they got a running quarterback or just a throwing quarterback,
Starting point is 00:05:26 and then a dude who does kind of both better than the other two. When you guys look at film and prepare for that, Do you prepare any different for a running quarterback, throwing quarterback, or a dual quarterback? Does it affect you at all? No, it don't affect us at all. First of all, I want to give, you know, just letting Purdue know, like, they're a good ball club, a good team. You see, they knocked off number two, Iowa. Congratulations on that and everything.
Starting point is 00:05:55 But we don't, we don't, what's the call? We don't, we prepare, like, we plan. regular quarterback you know our main thing is getting 11 hats to the ball uh every play no matter where the ball is if it's 50 yards across the 100 yards cross field we get 11 hats there one way or another so um you know just swarming uh trapping the quarterback and making sure they get no room or nothing just trying to suffocate them uh that's what that's what that's how we train d t is your is your preparation about what you guys do or who you're doing it against. No, it's, you know, it's always about us. You know, we don't prepare a different
Starting point is 00:06:37 at all, you know, the number one job is to stop the wrong, you know. If you don't stop the run, you know, the game over, you don't have trouble all game. But if you can stop the run and make them one-dimensional, we know what they're going to do. They're going to pass the ball. What do you say to Husker fans who ride or die with you, right? They're going on the battle and no, they don't bruise up and they're not taking the hits. But, emotional, the most of the emotionally, they ride with y'all. And I can tell you from our postgame shows, it's painful to hear them after a game.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Like, it was like they were out there with you. Except for next Saturday, they will be out there with you. You'll be back home at Memorial. How much difference doesn't make to play at Memorial than going on the road? Man, it's just different. You know, it's home. It's home having people here on your side.
Starting point is 00:07:32 That's the best feeling. Like I told you last time, before I go out there, I always get goosebumps. Me thinking about it right now gives me goosebumps, playing in front of 90,000 people. And I don't really look at them as fans or nothing. You know, that's family because, you know, we be out there together. And everything they see, we out there doing and everything, you know, we feel that. So that's the family right there. And it's just a good time out there in Memorial.
Starting point is 00:08:00 you, and that's one thing. Another thing we need to work on getting better at is playing in different environments. I feel like we play our best when we at home, and we just need to transfer that over to wherever we play. Even like, for instance, in Minnesota, you know, it was just a different vibe. Everybody felt it, but that can't be an excuse. We got to prepare, play every game like it's a home game. So next Saturday is a 230 kickoff, right? So you guys have played the night game at home. You played the 11 o'clock game at home. What happens for a 2.30 game?
Starting point is 00:08:37 Does it change how you guys prepare? Does it change your schedule in a way that affects your body? Do you guys have a preference about what time you play? I have no preference at what time I play. I told you last time again, it could be 2.30 p.m. 11 a.m. It can be 12.30 a.m. 2 o'clock a.m. We're going to be ready to play a game. Our coach would do a good job.
Starting point is 00:09:00 giving us the game plan and it's on us to trust the game plan and execute it and come out with the victory. D.T. I mean, for you? Yeah. For me, it doesn't matter what time we play, but if you ask for a preference, I'd rather play in the morning. We're used to waking up early for practice in the morning. So, you know, when we wake up, we're ready to go. So if anything, I like to play in the morning. Are there more distractions when you play at home?
Starting point is 00:09:28 No. No. So you're pretty secure it off, like there's boundaries. Folks, is there cut off time for cell phones to be off and everybody to get about their business? Man, yeah. Cell phones are not tolerated, you know. You go out there, go warm-ups, come back in, nobody on their phones, nothing. You know, everybody locked in. You know, people saying their final prayers, you know, just getting mentally ready for the game.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Again, they put their stuff in the mold, you know, visualize what you're going to do on the field. that's one thing about us. We always visualize what we want to do and what we want to accomplish. DT, what's your message to Husker fans? Your three and five, Purdue's coming. What's your message? Yeah, I message y'all, man.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Like you said, we know you have our back. And we don't just hear that, but, you know, in the stadium, we feel that. And so we just want you to know that we're going to keep swinging. We're never going to, you know, give up. You know, we're going to keep fighting and swinging and doing everything we can in our power to, you know, to win and make things.
Starting point is 00:10:30 haven't. Boogie? What's your message? Just like D.T. said, D.T. said it all. You know, we might be in, but we don't break. So we're going to always fight. It's been an interesting thing to watch. And I'll pay attention.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I'll say this, because I pay attention to it. More than when things are good, I pay attention to who shows up when things haven't been as good as you think they should be. It is some real grown. stuff for you guys to volunteer to come on your own volition and share yourselves with Husker Nation when things haven't been ideal that tells me that your stand-up young men not everybody can do this not everybody can face it yeah you know you're going to get loved on when you get here but the fact that you guys show up and you speak to these
Starting point is 00:11:21 fans and you give them insight to who you are it's going to give folks hope it's necessary I mad respect for you guys and I appreciate you guys giving us time during your week whether it's by week or not. It means of the world. Thank you. It mean the world for you mean the world for us to have us on you know so you just want to say thank you
Starting point is 00:11:41 and we appreciate it. And the next time you come we're gonna call your parents while you're on. Okay okay right? Like I think that let them know right? Yes, sir. Right? I'll let them know I let them know. You know, we'll set it up. One segment, one, you know, one family will call,
Starting point is 00:12:00 next family will call. Are we good? Yes, sir. There they are. Dr. Thomas and Damien Daniels. We'll close out one-on-one. We'll do that after the break. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch.
Starting point is 00:12:13 You're listening to one-on-one with DP on 93-7 the Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
