Starting point is 00:00:00 Back to one-on-one with D.P. Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 the ticket. It's been a great and informative hour with Vermont, Marcosters, when it's tennis. It is that time where tennis gets into his tour, full tour, and it starts with the Australian Open. The Australian Open, most of the big tour events are trying to find niche areas. to get involvement and curiosity and eyes to the sport.
Starting point is 00:00:36 But the Australian Open launched the thing, one point slam where amateurs and pros will sign up, and year one of it was warm but not hot. Year two on fire. On fire, because then the top players started lining up. And the names are, I mean, these were some folks. Skinner, I mean, Center played, Cocoa Golf played, Alciras played, and then amateurs. And the premise is this, a draw, and it could be, you could end up facing the number one man in the world,
Starting point is 00:01:16 the number one women's player in the world, or an amateur. It didn't matter. And it's one point. And that's the play. And you get one point to win or lose to advance. of course people that know tennis would go okay well whoever serves has the advantage but how do you determine who serves in the greatest professional sports way ever rock paper scissors at the net to determine who serves absolutely yeah and to watch that that golf and center both lost in the first round and and and and and and and You never know if it's intentional and intentionally, you know, I think Sinner double faulted.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Kirk Rolf, I think, played the point. You know, you'll be, you might be surprised. I love the idea. I think just to promote the sport and to bring fans, you know, a little more entertainment and a little closer to their, you know, to their top players. Yeah. Because you see them in a different environment, which I think it helps promote the sport. You know, I think it's great because you always see them in a competition, kind of serious,
Starting point is 00:02:26 mindset type of deal, you know, and you see them a little more loose, relax. I think it just helps promote the sport and get to know them on a deeper level. You know, so I think it's awesome. I think that's something off the of the of the mic here. We should do it here. We got to bring it. I think we'll bring it.
Starting point is 00:02:44 If you did a Coaches Cup, one point, like you'll put it to any coach from the athletic department, you could also do the same with a player and the coaches. And just have them all get into a pool. But I think the coaches cup would be fun. That's when you do a fundraiser. Yeah, no, we should. I think we'll start with our team. Who do you think the favorite would be?
Starting point is 00:03:10 Amongst coaches. Among the coaches? Yeah. I don't know. My brain immediately went to Rhonda Ravel and Fred Hoyberg. Yeah, Fred has, you know, he might have a good serve, you know, from basketball. He's a good athlete, you know. Everybody's good athlete, you know.
Starting point is 00:03:24 You know, my rule, you know, he plays baseball. So he might be, you know, good high and eye coordination right away. So, yeah, it'll be a tough battle. It'll be a tough battle. I think you'd be surprised that serving you think it gives you the vanish, but you feel the pressure there. When you're out there bouncing the ball and you've got to get that square over the net. It's not as easy as it sounds. I think the ticket needs to sponsor that.
Starting point is 00:03:46 We need to make that happen. Yeah, let's make it happen. We'll do with our team first. Let's see the team one. Yeah, and we'll come down and record it. Yeah, we'll have you guys over. And then we'll actually see who who comes. comes, you know, on the pressure. Well, I would, I would, I would allow the ticket staff to,
Starting point is 00:04:02 to do one as well. Yeah. Just to see, Bach, I want to see Buck. Can you get a serving, Bach? I can try. See, we get, you, you'll have time to prepare. Yeah. We don't want you pull in, you know, snapping in the killies trying to hit a, hit a serve, but in play. And then you, you, you, you mentioned the thing, pickleball is such an active thing now that people are involved in. But you said, there are going to be times, opportunities. maybe we're pickle ball being played at the dillen center yeah we we you know we talk about i've been kind of brainstorming this you know trying to do maybe you know a fundraiser or just an event you know to get you know our team or just the community our center you know just to do a little uh picka ball
Starting point is 00:04:41 you know fundraising event at our uh our tennis center um so we'll make it happen uh sooner later than later maybe but uh we'll make it happen uh maybe by the end of the season or something of that you know but it'll be fun i think it'll be fun i think it's you know there's a lot of division sometimes in tennis and pickable. All this hate, you know, if you love tennis, don't do it. I think it's, you know, it's fun, you know, anything that you can pick up a racket or a racket sport or you can stay healthy and active. I think it's helpful.
Starting point is 00:05:09 So I'm not a hater, you know. I think, you know, what you don't want to see is, you know, people taking too many tennis scores away, it's just too pickable. I think if we can combine them and keep them together, you know, I would like to, you know, to keep working together, you know, anything that grows, you know, stay nice. active and playing a sport, whether it's social or competitive, whatever it is. You know, I think it's all healthy. You know, so it's all healthy.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Coach, we got 30 seconds. Let the folks know about opening night, James Madison, how to be involved. Yeah, I just show up and be there, you know, and be loud. I think it's 6 p.m. tomorrow night at the Dillon Tennis Center, free admission, good tennis, you know, friendly, family friendly. And, yeah, show up. We're red and ready to support. Coach, thank you for doing what you do and how you do it.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Good luck tomorrow night. We'll see you there. And I think folks are going to be proud of the product. We hope so. We hope so. But I know thank you for your support and always go. It'll be great. Don't go anywhere.
Starting point is 00:06:09 The walls will shake. The mic will roar. Adam Cariker in the building. Here are 937, The Chicken. An emergency can happen any moment. Here's a...
