You're listening to One-on-One with D.P.
Presented by Beatrice Bakery on 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back to one-on-one, four, two, four, six, eight-five, sort of Hayman, text line, Honda, Lincoln Hotline.
Mark took a call.
Today is Beatrice Bakery Care Package Day, and we had a call.
Mark?
Yeah, Gary called in.
He wanted to nominate his mother, who is, she's, I believe, in her 90s.
hasn't left the house much at all since, since COVID, had some health issues going on.
Gary's father leaves the house a little bit, but he's 95, had hip surgery.
So for the most part, they're just not getting out.
He was looking for something to brighten their day a little bit.
And so he was hoping we could help him out with some goodies from Beatrice's bakery.
Gary, the answer is yes.
Yes, we can.
Thank you for calling.
Thank you for sharing that story.
Yes, for Gary's mom, we can do something.
We'll put together a care package.
Courtesy of Beatrice's Bakery, Mark, thank you.
That's what we want to do that for.
That's good stuff across the way.
Back to the starter, him and text line.
Fred, not Hoyberg says, my wife is from Wyoming,
doesn't care for sports, but I found a way to go to as many activities as possible.
Met Norie and Nick at a sophomore Friday.
Nick again Saturday as well as Rico, not a bad crowd on Saturday.
As the team wins, the crowd grows in every sport where the core,
fans and then those start showing up after the winning comes regular.
Yeah, I mean, it's just a support thing.
It's just a support thing.
Todd says this.
If you're afraid of watching a team, you're watching win, you should definitely watch the
women's programs.
The last 20 years, they've been way more successful than the men's programs.
Sanderson says, of course, you could build up a burn on the other side.
I think they would build it up and promote it better like they do with baseball games.
Cheap burn seats, bring blanket and the kids, hang out in the ballpark.
park. I hear baseball eyes like that, but not softball. All of that safe. A couple of things about this.
Let me go to this other one here. Oak Valley Huskers says, what up, D.P.? What up Oak Valley Husker.
I think a lot of it is most people only have room for a couple sports. I watch as much as I can,
but people are busy. So you can only fit in so much. I do watch men and women sports. I'm hoping
to get to some softball games. Just here. My daughter is starting to pitch. Starting kid pitch.
A kid pitch this year.
The knuckle dragon comment goes a bit too far, my opinion.
Your sport preference shouldn't be a judgment of someone's character or intelligence piece.
Loved the first part.
I'll deal with the second part as well.
Yeah, that people do what they do as they can do it.
I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about the masses being able to just support a thing because you're supporting it,
not because it's bends or women.
The knuckle dragging comment is this.
I'm never going to okay or co-sign.
people saying that a sport is less than because it's women.
By definition, that's Neanderthalish.
Evolve.
Open your mind.
And while you're at it, open your heart.
These young women deserve the same level of support that the men's who.
These are our daughters.
So to support our daughters less than we support our sons is, in fact, behind the times.
Come forward.
Come on with us.
Okay. But my daughter deserves the same respect as my son.
It's fun. We're going to have fun.
Right?
Simple biz.
Right? Simple biz.
And then here's the other thing.
As I said, I'll keep repeating this.
This text line is a courtesy.
The privilege.
It's not right.
It's not right.
And if you're going to just yell from the rafters,
we could take away your ability to do so.
It's true.
You can have a conversation,
but if you're just going to, you know, amen.
We don't charge you for this.
We entertain you day to day, day by day,
17 hours a day.
Again, this is a meeting place.
If it bothers you, I'll wave and say thanks.
Appreciate it.
You're not being held hostage.
No, go for.
find a place where angry people live and reside.
Come and go as you please.
We'll still be here.
You can come back if you want.
So, you know, as this text says,
you can put your name on the softball berm,
just called Treb.
Why would you assume that that hasn't been done
and thanks for spending my money?
What are you doing?
What are you doing?
Hey, I'm going to spend your money.
From BJ in Wichita,
the main two sportsmen's hoops and football are so bad
from a win-loss standpoint,
lately that it often blends over
to a lack of interest in other sports.
There you go.
That makes sense.
See, my thing is this.
The positive energy from the successful programs
and the women's program specifically
deserve full interest and presence.
And then that in turn will flow over
because when you put like programs side by side,
then the standard is set.
Like, you'll learn what good sports is.
That's amazing.
That's amazing.
Right?
Just ride the wave of success.
Right.
Jory says this, thank you, D.P.,
for informing us on what's happening and women's sports
in order to plan to make it to as many as we can.
That's, bless you, Jory.
This is, a lot of the conversation is just as a reminder,
because people have lives and they have things that draw on them
and pull on them on a day-to-day basis.
Right?
You have your, it could be your high school kids,
your elementary kids, middle school kids,
it could be your college kids,
and the things are all of that in space.
But a part of what I enjoy doing
is shining the light on good people doing good things.
And quite frankly, look, it's easy.
And I'm also going to support teams that aren't having success.
by still talking about them and trying to figure out what can we do to make this better?
What can we do to help them?
Maybe they need more of us to cheer for them.
Maybe they need more support.
Maybe they need a pat on the back.
Maybe they need a kick in the pants.
But that's what this is all about is just being able to say,
hey, there are things going on that you may or may not be aware of
or you simply have not given priority to mental priority to.
But I can say, if you have not been to a sophomore game to watch this team,
put together.
Look, I went over there and watched them just give it to Creighton.
15 nothing right and it was a great day great crowd the wind was blowing you know it was a bit nuts
but the girls played their hearts up we did that for basketball we do that for gymnastics for
bowling for swimming diving for for soccer like we're on the place when we talk to there are parents
who talk to us about hey can you talk about my daughter plays in this sport can you talk about it you
know what tell you what parents you guys have free reign call us it call in and give us updates on your
child in their programs call
in.
Your daughter plays softball for Nebraska.
You know what? You want to be the guy that calls in the day after a game and tell us and give
us a report.
You have full permission.
She plays basketball.
Come do it. You want to call in about your daughter who plays at Lincoln Pyes?
Call in.
This is a sports station.
This is a sports show.
And give the same sort of energy and passion about their sports and their results and
their accomplishments as you do the boys and the men.
I'm giving you permission to amplify and highlight the good things going on in the community sports-wise and otherwise.
So do it.
You have a 25 and 9 softball team.
Bravo.
Track.
Look, me and Rico have no problem talking my track every day.
Darius left went down to Florida and put in some work in the one-tenths first outdoor meeting.
Right?
Like, just put some light on the things instead of.
just living in the dark space of my goodness.
I woe is me and everything's miserable.
The women's soccer team is 1-0-1.
They tied in their first game.
They won their last game against Missouri Western.
They have a game coming up on the 9th, I believe, against Colorado.
Okay, hold on, hold on.
This is the 9th of April is rivalry day.
Oh, never mind.
That's the 12th.
Okay, so no.
The 9th of April, women's soccer faces Colorado, home at Hibner, and
April 12th is rivalry day.
Nebraska softball has a double header against Iowa.
First game is at four, and then their second game starts at 6.30.
But if you go to the first game and then you want to go see some baseball,
baseball is playing Creighton at home at 635.
Well, you're going to have that this weekend with spring game and then baseball.
Yep.
Right? So to be able to carry that.
And to tell me that we can't march over across the street and put it.
work at Haymark Park as well.
Like we should.
It should be a great turnout if the weather's fair.
I like this and Eric,
I applaud you today.
Thank you for adding this, this, this, this to this space.
Eric says this and I'm going to ask listeners
to stop using the verbiage of the masses
when you talk about yourself.
You're a lot of,
allowed to be an individual in this space and be responsible and accountable for your actions
in this space as an individual so that the masses are better all around.
I love where Eric went with this.
He said, let me preface by saying that I side with you, but you are bringing a progressive
mindset to a not-so-progressive understatement state.
We tend to be dragged along with the times.
Now, Eric, I am immediately a fan of yours.
because of your presence in how you texted that, right?
You put some thought in that.
I'll say this, though, we cannot,
why would you tie progressive to humanity?
To basic level, be careful, folks.
To say that your daughter and your son have equal value is not progressive.
That's just being a good, it's not.
parent being a good person?
Well, well, with this, I just, sometimes we, like, we've gotten into this space where everybody's either this or that.
And that's simply not true because, as the phrase is, we are more alike than we are unalike, my friends.
So if we start from the common thinking that, that the common space, which is if we love what we love, then we should be open and honest about it.
So if we care about the young ladies who play Husker athletics,
we should probably say it.
And when somebody says,
I don't support Husker women's athletics because they're women,
that's not a progressive thing.
That's not a conservative thing.
That's not a liberal thing.
That's just not who we want to be.
It's just being a jerk.
Right?
Right.
Now, I get your point, right?
that people will think that there are different people.
A part of why wanted to buy the station was,
I want to talk about everything.
And there's no narrative to it other than let's be decent to each other.
There's a common thread at all of our talking points, right?
No, no, and Eric, you're right.
Like, you were using it, I knew exactly how you were using it,
and I wanted to preface it by saying,
I'm not holding you accountable to that.
I'm just saying that we and I do this thing,
that we as a collective
and then as individuals
have to be careful about what we label a thing
because we may miss the point.
We may miss the opportunity to connect.
We may miss the opportunity to get together
by isolating and saying
this is a progressive thing where conservative people go,
well, I want to be in that group
but I don't want to be tied to that word.
I don't want to be, yeah.
No, I'm not talking about the word.
I'm not talking about being aggressive.
I'm talking about us being supportive of each other.
I'm talking about us supporting each other all.
If you are a Husker fan and a Husker,
then we're going to support all the Husker sports.
If it's a high school, we're going to support the young people doing good things.
If it's great leadership, we're going to support great leadership.
Because we can all get on that same page.
That's my hope.
I know it's a little bit preachy, but my apologies.
We'll be right back.
Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch.
