It's time to go one-on-one with D.P.
Coming at you live from the couple Chevrolet GMC Studios.
Here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery,
on 937 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com.
Welcome back from your holiday weekend.
402, 4664-5.
Sartor Hammondack's on Honda-Lincoln Hotline.
The video stream is up.
which in Twitter live, jump on.
Jump on and jump in the conversation.
A couple of things I want to thank folks.
For the folks in Omaha,
who were going through,
who went through that fire deal yesterday last night,
that was brutal.
It was tough to watch.
And the folks that were involved in the accident
at 52nd and O,
if you're affected by it,
we're sending our regards.
You're sitting on thoughts.
It's a tough weekend.
It's tough weekend.
But we made it through.
Hopefully you did something wonderful.
You guys can text me and tell me what you did with your holiday weekend, what you did.
Rico, did you eat anything special?
I'm trying to figure out what the proper.
What do you mean?
Like, did you grill out?
I didn't grill because we did the building.
I made steaks.
What kind of steaks?
Just little
little steaks I got from Hyby.
Nothing fancy.
It was like a pack of like eight steaks or something like that.
Just like little tiny little things.
Made those actually have some leftovers that I'm going to have today for lunch.
And some potatoes.
And made some hot dogs for lunch on Sunday.
So nothing crazy.
We thought about we had like a like a, like a, like a,
pork shoulder that we were going to throw on the grill, but it was that day that it was super windy.
So we just threw it in the crock pot.
I'm not mad about it.
I don't care.
I had, so we live in a high-rise building, so we weren't really trying to, like, you know, grill, grill.
But there's something to be said about the difference between grilled meat and just the meat prepared indoors.
that has a different taste
you can taste when the fire
kisses the meat
yeah it hit me yesterday
that
yeah there's a difference
there's a difference
between
just
meat
prepared indoors
and off the grill
I just
like it hit me hard
if you have a brat
that's prepared indoors.
Can you...
It's not the same.
Can you cook it in beer
and have it taste the same
or better than on the grill?
No.
I don't think so.
Can steak...
Honestly, it's...
The grill marks really aren't anything,
but for some reason...
It adds flavor.
It adds flavor.
It adds flavor.
I don't care.
I don't care.
Like, when you see the grill marks,
like, you could have a steak
that was prepared on the grill,
and for some reason,
it doesn't have grow marks.
It doesn't taste the same as one with grow marks.
You see it, you cut into it.
Same for burger.
Like burger.
I mean, grilled hamburgers are better.
Yes.
Than just off.
Like flat top.
Off a flat top.
Yeah.
It's true.
It's that little crunch that the grow mark provides.
Right.
I mean, and whatever cheese you put on it is better.
Mm-hmm.
You know, could go where this is you cook it in beer
and then seared on the grill.
best of those worlds.
Yeah.
Interesting.
Yeah, but I mean, that's so.
But then you're still using the grill.
If you're indoor living.
Get a, get a, uh, George Foreman.
It doesn't.
It's not the same.
It's not the same.
Doesn't have the flavor on it.
So there are, you don't have chips.
You don't have the aroma.
You don't have any of the.
I don't know how dangerous this would be, but there are.
Sounds dangerous without you even saying it.
The table top of charcoal grills.
You just throw it on top of your table.
Is that a thing?
Yeah.
They're just.
small charcoal girls.
I don't know if they're actually tabletop,
but I had one,
so I had one in college in Carney
because I didn't,
we couldn't afford a big grill.
So I just got a little,
little big girl.
I mean, I was outside,
but it was like tiny.
I could fit like two burgers on it.
Well, we did it back when we had,
we lived in an apartment.
Took forever.
And you put it on the,
yeah,
but you put it on the balcony,
right?
So it wouldn't set up the smoke detector.
And then,
of course,
your neighbors were complained
because you're really on the,
on the balcony.
Um, so there's that.
Uh, John and Cortland says, since I cut meat, got to jump in.
That is why I will put on insulated coveralls and grill in the dead of winter back to work.
See, right.
So I, and there and I have friends who are that way.
They will grill in December.
I use my smoker during like the snow and the cold and all that and I'll take it out there.
The problem is I don't have one of the little covers for the smoker.
So it doesn't keep the same temperature when it's cold on the,
inside when it's cold so it's like uneven cooking i need to get no it's like it's all covered but
it's not there's like a they have like insulated things on them that go on them when they're outside
in the cold so you can still smoke and grill things and it keeps the same temperature i don't have one
of those so it's so it like what so it fluctuates so what does that thing how much does that thing
cost what is that thing you're talking about a lot it's just i don't know what it's called it's just like a
cover it's i have a grill cover but it's like an insulated grill thingy that covers it up and
and keeps it so that it's all even hmm okay i'm gonna have to dive into that one yeah i'm gonna
have to dive into it because i just i just think that because i because we had the brats yeah and
they're good like it's really high quality good stuff right but it wasn't the same as grilled and
And then I thought about burgers, that burgers cannot be, they're not the same coming off an outdoor grill, like a full grill.
Mm-hmm.
I'm not a smoker.
Like I'm somebody who smokes meat.
I'm not that person.
I'm still learning.
I would.
I've only smoked ribs and it's on a weekend when I'm at home.
I don't, I haven't tried one of those like all-day smoker, like pork shoulder going to turn it into like.
So what's your, if you're smoking ribs, how much of your day does that occupy?
So I go with the, was it the 3-2-1 method that people use?
So it's three hours, two hours, one hour.
It's three hours uncovered, two hours covered, one hour uncovered.
So that takes up, you know, that much time of my day.
So it's six hours just doing that, just on the smoker.
You know what we're going to have to get?
We're going to have to get Charles from there.
on.
Yes.
I'm going to ask him.
Or maybe Nick.
For Mucachos.
And ask him how much?
Because he has his smoking overnight.
Like he, yeah, he's, he, he, he, he goes in and takes care of it.
What about, what about, what about, you're a bacon on the grill kind of person?
I've never done bacon on the grill.
Have you, we do bacon in the oven.
Okay.
That was my next question.
So Becky does that.
She'll put the bacon in the oven and bake it.
Mm-hmm.
You're a member of that team.
Rachel's a member of that team.
and I've just gone with it because it's an easier cleanup
and you don't have to worry about the splatter.
But I say that the splatter makes the bacon taste better
because that's what we used to do at my grandma's house.
She just had a walk that she would use for other things,
but she would just take two packs of bacon,
just toss it in there, just have a metal fork.
Yeah, it's one sheet.
And just spin it around in the walk and just cook it all up like that.
And I'm like, this best bacon I've ever had
is when my grandma cooks it like that.
So I do that.
I don't have a walk, so I just have my skillet.
And I do that.
And I'm not going to use a fork because it's,
not stick.
It's not stick.
So I use a little spatula and I do that and it's just,
I just get splattered with all the bacon grease.
And I'm just like,
it hurts,
but it's going to be worth it.
And it's delicious.
But it causes such a mess.
Jeremy says a 93.7,
real cookoff sounds in order.
Who's in?
Who's in?
So you guys would come to the parking lot.
I'll make my ribs.
You come to the parking lot.
So you just,
you could prep, you can marinate and prep before you got here,
but you would have to actually cook and grill here in the parking lot.
Nice, nice little sig.
I mean, I'm here, so.
Who's in?
So text line, who would be into a cookoff?
Of course, we would be the judges.
Of course.
We would be the judges.
Cadova.
Cadova.
A guy would participate in the cookoff.
Jeremy's in.
Okay, that's two.
I know one person who would love to grill in the parking lot again.
Yeah, yeah, Joe Davis would absolutely.
I would love for him to cook in the parking lot.
Yeah, but only if mom comes and makes up.
You got to bring mom along.
Yeah, mom got to come.
Yeah, you got to have a wife for you.
Yeah, I think that would work.
Then we'd have to figure out when, like what morning.
So we could just do it, do a morning.
Corbates in.
Okay, all right.
You have to bring your own grills.
Well, yeah, you guys bring your grill because we want you to cook on what you want to cook on.
Oh, how am I going to bring mine?
Right?
Now figure it out.
Right?
Yeah.
He's, Tony John's the snow doesn't stop.
Oh, man.
Look at you.
Oh, look at you.
Okay.
Jay and Lincoln is in.
Okay.
So.
That is a serious looking smoker right there.
Do we want to target, like, it's June 1st tomorrow?
Yes.
I don't know.
Like a Monday morning where they could, like, do you want to?
do a month do you want to do a Friday?
Either a Monday or a Friday?
Yeah. In June or do you want to wait till July?
No, I mean, let's get after it. If we're going to get after it, let's get after it.
So we'll set the time, what it would probably be like during Sip and Jake.
Yeah. So on a Friday.
So the 10th is a Friday. The 17th is a Friday. It's also Ellie's third birthday on the 17th.
Okay. So let us know if you could do Friday the 10th from 6 to 9.
Yeah.
And we would use one-on-one to judge, consume, etc.
Right?
You could work.
Right.
I think the prize would be I would come up with, I think I've got a sign.
Grilling for the love of the game.
No, there would be prizes.
I love that.
There be prizes.
Like we've got some gift cards and signed jersey or two, right?
So we'll, you know what?
I'll get a signed jersey for first and second prize.
Okay.
Right?
And we'll throw together some other, like, everybody gets a ticket t-shirt.
For doing six or nine, I can't make my ribs.
It takes longer.
Well, that's where we're just doing, like, bacon burger or hot dog.
Okay.
We'll see who makes the best burger.
Bacon burger hot dog.
Bacon burger hot dog.
All in one.
Right?
A bacon burger hot dog.
Ready to go.
Bacon burger dog.
Yeah, it'll work.
From the Cosby's.
You remember that one?
Yeah.
Bacon burger dog.
Unless you're feeling frogging, you really want to treat us, right?
Like go all in, right?
So you can set up in the parking lot?
I'm not going to say no.
I'm not going to say no, but, you know, it's all up to you.
Girl in the parking lot.
All right.
So next Friday, 6 a.m.
Okay.
6 a.m.
Let's do that.
Let's do that.
So we can find out what.
The girl ends at 9.
So if you get here after 6, it's fine.
But you have to be done before 9.
Because then we'll bring in.
in, you tell us what you made, we'll eat it, we'll judge it.
Even if you have to go to work, you can grill it and then leave it and then we'll
crowbait.
That's funny.
That's funny.
He goes, I'll bring a George Foreman grill just for a ticket sheet.
Yeah, everybody that competes, hey, if you're going to get a ticket t-shirt.
If you bring your George Foreman grill and you make a mean burger, you might win.
You really might.
And whatever other accoutreement you want to bring.
I'm not going to.
whatever other side dishes you want to bring.
You want to throw some eggs on the grill?
You know.
You do you.
You know, you guys can do what you want to do.
But yeah, I've got, what do I have in the office?
A lot of everything.
I've got assigned Irving Friar.
I've got a signed Jason Peter.
I've got a signed.
The red one, yeah.
Grant Westram.
I've got a signed.
Got a lot of things in there.
Yeah.
So we'll make that.
So for every jersey that I have, I'll put in that plus if you could just for entering and grilling,
you get a T-shirt.
T-shirt sticker bottle opener.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
Solid.
Rock solid.
I was going to say, we are 100% salad on that day.
No, we are not 100% salad.
We're not doing salad.
No, we're accepting salad.
You can't grill a salad.
But we're also accepting salad.
You can accept the salad.
I don't accept salad.
Yeah.
You know, this is there.
I don't accept rabid food.
So if you're in, just confirm that you're in.
And let's get that done.
Let's get that done.
Because I'd like to see, I've had a lot of conversation with folks during tailgates about steaks, burgers, et cetera.
And everybody goes about it different.
And then Nebraska takes certain pride in its meat.
So I think for the folks who would be involved,
and if our meat cutters have bacon that they'd like to donate,
we can do that too.
We are taking donations.
We are, in fact, we are taking donations.
So that can all be there.
But I was trying to figure out.
How close is that to, what week is Mark on on his workout?
I don't know.
We'll have to ask Mark.
Because I'm not sure that could be.
Kind of a celebration.
Yeah, it could be the end of it.
You know, where he could eat, actually eat everything.
Maybe not, though.
I think it was five weeks, like two weeks ago.
Maybe.
He could be a week off.
I'm not sure.
Mark, I know you're listening.
Answer my question.
Do we want to do that?
I can ask him the next break and we can figure it out.
Yeah, because I think.
Well, just text him right now.
I think that would be.
all of this, right?
That, that, that,
trying to think of how to put this.
You want it competitive.
Mm-hmm.
We'll have to create a graphic for it.
Okay.
On social media.
93-7.
The grill off.
The grill off.
The grill off.
I knew he'd chime in.
Joe says it doesn't count unless they're in the parking lot for six hours
and it's 30 below zero.
We're rookies.
True shout out.
That is such different level.
Because that was delicious.
And I went outside to get my food and I immediately wanted to go back inside.
And you were outside that whole time.
And the food was worth being cold.
Oh, 100%.
100%.
But I went out.
I grabbed it and I was like, I'm going to go back inside real quick.
Now, here's the other thing.
Do we want to do a tailgate for Dublin?
Do you want to do a tailgate for Dublin?
Do you want to do a tailgate for the first home game?
No, because home game they're going to be, we're going to tailgate anyway, because we're going to be somewhere.
You're right.
But for Dublin, we could.
Everybody wears green and red.
That is a terrible combination of colors.
Yeah, we're not going to do green.
Dublin, though.
We're not going to do green.
We're not going to do green.
All right, all right.
Right, but I think, you know, in the parking lot, we need to find somebody who has a large screen TV.
Mm-hmm.
who would show the game in the parking lot
and we can have our own tailgate, our own game march.
B.YO. FC.
Bring your own folding chair.
I thought you were going to go with like stakes.
Well, I mean that, obviously, but also bring your own folding chair.
Yes. Eric, we are, he goes, wait, wait, what's happening?
Are we grilling meat?
Just got back on my trucks. I'm out of loop.
Yes. So, Friday, June 10th, 6 to 9th.
9 a.m. during Sip and Jake, we're going to have a grill off.
Yep.
Grill off.
Bacon, burgers, dogs.
Brots, dogs.
Right?
If you're feeling froggy, whatever other meat you're feeling.
If you want to eat, you want to throw biscuits, you want to do, whatever you want to do.
Whatever you're feeling, you get to feed yourself some, some new friends you might make.
You get to feed Sip and Jake and D.P.
Joe is in the game.
Myself.
He says, Joe says he'll sponsor a Dublin tailgate.
Might even be able to get a TV trailer.
That's what we're talking about.
Okay.
That's what we're talking about.
Are we going to have access to power if I bring my pellic grill?
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, you will.
We'll run it through the, through the, we'll have to get like a big power surge protector because we can't blow up the building.
I can bring some.
We have, we have plenty.
We have extension cords.
We'll be fine.
Well, just to make sure it doesn't over.
It'll work.
The pellicle is not that.
strong head. Well, but we're going to have like 10, it appears. Not everybody, not everybody said
they're bringing pellet girls. He's the only one so far. You know, I just, I just want to,
I want to plan that, right? He's the only one so far. So, yeah. And people make fun to me for my
pellet girl. They're like, oh, it's just an oven. It's just an outside of it. You need to use charcoal or
wood or whatever. I was like, or I could just use pellets and use my electric grill and that I don't
have to worry about. Mouth of the cells, if you make coleslaw, it's an automatic loss.
Not for the for the for the for the Dublin tailgate for the grill off yes yes
Are we just doing protein for the every I you said if they want to bring a side
They can if you want to if you want to the main attraction is the protein is the protein but if you want to bring a side
Yeah if you want to bring something else you know you got something that you're
pancakes trying to get rid of oh oh there's somebody else there's somebody else
Oh oh Jeremy's got a pellet girl as well
Okay.
So you'll have to commit to us.
Let us know that you're coming so we can make room and keep room.
We have to move.
Yeah, we'll have VJ bring the baked beans.
No, that was the, what was, not the captain, not the lieutenant.
I don't remember what his rank was.
There was somebody that makes baked beans.
I was going to bring him in for VJ.
You know who's going to have to sponsor this?
Mary Allen.
Yeah.
And Heavenly Waffles.
Because we'll have them on the side just.
This is going to be a party.
Oh, my sweet baby Jesus.
Yes.
Holy cow.
Claytonia John.
I don't.
What that.
Yes.
Whatever that is.
I don't.
Nobody else needs to come.
Whatever.
No.
They'll say that everybody else is coming.
Oh my goodness.
The colonel.
Thank you.
Thank you, Ms.
Sima, my dog.
No, that is quite the smoker.
Who?
It's on a trailer.
Oh.
How do you even...
Game on.
Goodness, delicious.
I would be at every...
So everybody gets...
Tony and John at every tailgate?
Everybody gets...
I'd host all the tailgates of that.
Everybody gets a t-shirt.
It's a 937-the-ticket t-shirt.
The winner gets a hat.
Second place gets hat.
Signed Husker jerseys for one and two.
Maybe three.
Maybe three.
Depending on how delicious it is.
It's going to be delicious.
It's going to be great.
And Joe,
Davis is going to sponsor it.
And then we need to reach out to other people to sponsor it as well.
Yeah.
And then we will do the Dublin tailgate that morning 1130.
That's kickoff.
11 o'clock or 1130?
11.30.
So we could start the pregame at 10, right?
Are we doing two and a half hours before?
So we're doing nine.
So we'll come at nine.
And then we could have the tailgate open up at like seven.
Yeah.
And Culling it will bring cases of water, bottled water to drink, giveaway.
Yes.
Yes, Jay.
Yes, let's do it.
Yeah.
And you're right.
Rico's having a good comb and heart attack just by reading and not even eating it.
And I'm excited.
Yeah.
Well, the parking lot extends all the way to the back.
So from the side down the side.
And then in the back, there's more room.
And then even up front, just imagine we could.
just get the computer people to know that we're doing.
Like, hey, we got people.
We got people.
Would it be against the rule to put like a big screen TV right there on the side of the road there, O Street?
If it's facing towards O Street, probably.
Just creating accidents.
Yeah, we don't want that.
Yeah, we don't want that.
We don't want that.
We don't want that to happen.
Dang it.
Mark's last day is the n...
The next week, the next Saturday.
Sorry, the 18th.
Gonna have to break it.
That'll be fine.
It's protein.
He's fine.
Yeah, he'll deal with it.
Jeremy, you're right.
Great idea.
Thank you, kind sir.
We'll throw it a break.
I think we've got to go deep.
Confirm that you're in for next Friday.
Just give that one more time so we can go through this and get this done.
We'll talk more about it here on one-on-one.
