Starting point is 00:00:27 Fox before we get into the conversation, if you would please, pay the bills, pay the bills. Yes, it is the noon. That means it's lunchtime and lunchtime here at the ticket is sponsored by our friends at Mulberry Barbecue now with two great locations at 11th in Cornhusker and at 61st in Apple's way right off the highway two by Lowe's. Both locations are open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Try their burnt-in sandwich, a brisket burrito, barbecue nachos, a full slab of ribs, a half-smoked chicken, and much more plus incredible sides.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Get fueled for lunch today or make dinner plans at Mulberry barbecue located 11th in Cornyn and at 61st in Applesway just off of Highway 2 by Lowe's. Thank you, kind, sir, greatly appreciated from the text line. I had a question. What happened to Adam Carriker?
Starting point is 00:01:13 Wasn't he at this time? Could you update the podcast schedule on the app? Your lineup has changed since it was posted. Thanks, love the station. As I opened the show with, Keraker will be back tomorrow. For a variety of reasons, what happened? I mean, Carrecker has a life. He has a full family.
Starting point is 00:01:32 You know, he asked for four days a week. So Wednesdays, we plugged in Anthony Lionheartsmith from the UFC. So Wednesdays is a day for Carrier to be with his family and take care of his business and handle the things that he has outside of the station. As a boss, I try to be flexible with people. Go do your thing. You know, box. I need to go to Philippines. Go, bro. Like, I, what am I?
Starting point is 00:01:56 What do you? It's sports talk. Like, you know. You're not doing surgery. You know, Bach, we need your hands here, man. The woman's kidney needs Bach. No, it's sports talk. And we have a full roster of people.
Starting point is 00:02:10 We provide sports 18 hours a day, 18 hours a day. So we have talent. We have a roster. It's fluid. It adjust. It will change again next week because we have some new shows coming in. Sometimes the schedule changes because let's say we have a coach.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Let's say we have a coach, a Husker coach. And he agrees to do 7 o'clock on Tuesdays. Except there is a Tuesday where they play Creighton. Hey, coach, skip the Creighton match and talk sports. No, go do your thing. It's the thing. Mark Manning, take down Tuesdays. in season he wants the show to go four o'clock sweet sweet right until then he wants to be at six o'clock
Starting point is 00:03:06 sweet okay but then we get somebody that can do a show a coach that can do a show at six o'clock so we ask him hey can you move up to five o'clock sweet we are fluid and flexible we do this this is the idea is that we bring you local sports content as much as we can. We bring you national when I need to give people a break. We fill in. Sometimes you'll have Nick in for Jake. Sometimes you'll sit in for Jay Foreman. Sometimes it's just a thing.
Starting point is 00:03:39 The schedule is fluid. But we've built a roster strong enough. We have a team. And next man up is real. So when the staff needs time, go take the time. I'd be a much less boss if I do, nope, you got it. You got it. No, no, it's sports talk radio.
Starting point is 00:04:01 It's sports talk radio. We love spending time with y'all. But there are times, quite frankly, like, I'm not going to be here next week. I've got to go take care of my family in D.C. So I'm not going to be here next week. When the fill-ins are required, like I like the idea that if Bach needs time off, we have people that can give balk the time off. And we have professionals who are prepared and can step in. When I'm not here, there are people who can step in. I have no problem with the late nights that
Starting point is 00:04:29 Harrison Arons will man the 12 to midnight and have the time of his life doing it. Like that's kind of the point. He will pull in some of the student athletes and let them sit in. We've got coaches. We have Peter Cobalt, Hermando Magro from men and women's tennis. They're going to be a part of what we're doing forward. Jalen Reyes from volleyball, we're bringing in former Husker volleyball players to do postgame shows. Like we'll have a Saturday night volleyball post game show. As we grow, the key to our growth has been that we develop, we expand the roster, we develop the roster, and then we give experience to the roster.
Starting point is 00:05:11 And in no situation will we not be prepared. We have people who could, whether it's, you know, Tristan Gunn, You know, we got a young gun, man. That dude's good. You know, Rudy, Rudy is exceptional. He's come. A lot of our folks come in as interns, and then they just fall in love with it and they stay.
Starting point is 00:05:28 But if we expand the schedule, then some of these interns have the idea. They get an understanding that, my goodness, gracious, I'll have a job when I graduate. Instead of having to go into the job market and scrape, we're growing. And I'm appreciative. We have sponsors who,
Starting point is 00:05:45 anytime I come up with a new show, new Husker talent. We have full of people who in the community come running. Hey, DP, what do you need for the bowling shows? What do you need for the gymnastics show? You get to Bach, you get to sit with Ty. Tye's amazing. Like, Ty's going to get to star.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Right? That's the, he gets it. Yeah. Right. In broadcasting, so he's going to be a good one. And it, it's appreciative. And let me say this publicly to Bach. That Box growth in this thing, the amount of trust that we
Starting point is 00:06:17 able that we put on Bach. I'm not sure, is it a fair statement that I'm not sure that either of us would be as comfortable in your growth, that you are who you are now in this than you were, say, six years ago. Is that fair? Yeah, yeah. Right. Everybody, hopefully everybody's getting better and moving up. But to allow, to watch Bach grow in this thing, that I can put them in the room with one of the top five
Starting point is 00:06:43 ESPN talents when it comes to UFC. that I can put Bach in the room with a gymnast. I can put Bach in a room with it. Right. Those things have changed. And it's really cool to watch, right? To say that, you know, Bach's sitting in toe to toe with Adam Carriker in four days ago.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Right? You're sitting in, Hey, Bach, we say five years ago, you're going to have, you're going to have two hours with Adam Cariker and two hours with Hall of Fame black shirt to Row Farley. You would have looked at me like I had eight foreheads. Right?
Starting point is 00:07:17 Yeah. And it changes your commitment to it. It changes the level in which you prepare. It changes who you are in it, right? You get more informative, more informed, and then you use that information. If we said, hey, Bach, you're going to be heading into your 100th nuclear heat show talking wrestling goes on a night. What? What?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Like, we couldn't explain to people the vision because they wouldn't have understood or believed it. That Bach would have, that he would have a following that show up every. Sunday night to have these WWE conversations. We're fluid. We move with the times we adjust. When NIL go and NIL clearing your house and transfer portal all started
Starting point is 00:07:59 happening, we got fluid. When Husker Greats became available, we got fluid. Right? When Bill Bush becomes available, we take what currently, at that moment was the best show and made it better.
Starting point is 00:08:15 In spite of some people saying, don't mess up a good thing. Well, we're not messing it up. We're adding to it. We're adding to it. You know, it's the thing that happens along the way, right? So, and folks are asking, you know, who's here and who's here. Imagine that life goes on and that there are people that choose to do other things.
Starting point is 00:08:45 We have to allow people to choose to do other things. I don't think anybody wants talent on air who doesn't want to be here or who feel like they're doing you a favor by coming to talk great sports with them. I say it 100 times the biggest blessing in sports radio is that we get to do. We get to come in here and spend time with y'all
Starting point is 00:09:09 and you with us. And the moment, right, that it's the thing, you can yell from the, here's the thing, you can yell from the rafters who you want to listen to and who you don't want to listen to. Okay. You're going to pay them? You're going to pay them what they think, what they think the market is or what the actual market is? And who knows the market?
Starting point is 00:09:30 You or me. Who determines the market? That's the bigger way. Who determines the market? Wait a minute. Hey, man. You can tell me to go and hire, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:09:45 Taran Loo. Go hire Taran Lut. Okay. You're going to pay him? And you're going to pay him what he thinks he's worth? If you're not going to pay him, you can't say it. Because guess what? Y'all listen for free.
Starting point is 00:10:08 You'll listen for free. We don't make you subscribe. We don't make you. Listen, they're a podcast. out there that you have to pay a subscription fee every month to get the content. We don't even, we give you all 18 hours a day for free based on the decisions we make. You understand?
Starting point is 00:10:35 And Bach, is it fair, is a fair statement to say that I, I go above and beyond to overpay talent. Is that, is that a fair statement? Yeah, I mean, depending, I mean, look at the roster that the ticket has built. to your point. You know, and it can, rosters change,
Starting point is 00:10:53 right? Things happen, like you said in life, but yeah, I, again, you know, when,
Starting point is 00:10:59 I always kind of go back to those, those basketball post game shows that we did. And, you know, you kind of had the vision, and we're, and we're talking about it. And it was,
Starting point is 00:11:08 I mean, it was, it was a lot of it was, it was like, okay, I mean, I'd love it. This all sounds good, but just,
Starting point is 00:11:14 I haven't seen it. I would need to see, you know, how would we put this together? And then all these years later, where we are, down here with the mill. I say it often. It feels like I'm in one of those old sports center commercials sometimes at work. There's just random Huskers walking by. I'm like, oh, hey, hey, there. And to your point,
Starting point is 00:11:30 I mean, just being able to talk to Perel, Adam, you know, J-form, everybody that's around, I want to leave anybody out. But, you know, and you've become more informed with what's going on with Huskers, what's going on on field play. And so, you know, it definitely helps the level of those that, us that didn't play, you know, myself, Nick, Austin, anybody, you know, so it's just, It's been incredible and fun to watch the growth and be there along for. I am fully transparent. To a fault. To a fault.
Starting point is 00:11:59 And when people ask questions about, well, where's this person? Where's this person? I allow those people to make statements that they want to make about their situation and circumstances. I'm not going to tell family business. Like, I'm not going to put out, you know what, this is what, here's what it is. But this new location cost money. This new studio, money. The building, money.
Starting point is 00:12:27 All the satellites, all the licenses that, for all the music that we play, right? All the things that we do, all the clips that we produce cost money. So we make decisions on a regular basis. It becomes a matter of that here's the job. None of you can go into your boss and tell your boss how much they're going to pay you.
Starting point is 00:12:46 You can try. you can try but at some point your boss is going to go yes or no and then you're stuck with the fact that you made a request in your main anybody that's worked here had the ability to stay here and do work
Starting point is 00:13:05 for what the job was paying that is a simple truth is that not a fair statement yeah right that this is how the thing happens and then you say to people anybody that left here has the ability to come back
Starting point is 00:13:19 I haven't fired anybody there's the other day how about that look we're in the transfer portal here bro there are people that think you know what i'm going to jump in the transfer portal i'm going to i should be a starter and i should get started money okay don't get in there bro got to get in there and nobody's officially like here's the thing anybody that's had a show here can with their schedule and their ability to do so, the time, whether they have the time to do it, right? Listen, we can say,
Starting point is 00:14:04 you all know that VJ was published in Ring Magazine for the Canelo Crawford fight. How many people know that? Now, do you know how that happened? Right, that's also a question. But find VJ's article in that and then understand why he was at the fight and his place in it.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I want people to grow. I want people to grow. And if you came to work here at the ticket and then you are growing and you get to do some other things that you want to do, I'm going to hug you and applaud. Like that's, when the NCAA comes to town for college world series, Bach will say, hey, can I go spend some time with the college world series people? The answer is always yes.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I don't want you to shrink. I want you to grow. I want you to grow. And it's the thing, right? So, you know, there's a lot of stuff. Big Daddy Travis says this. He goes, a lot of you golf at the ticket, a lot of us that listen to golf.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Would you guys ever considering starting a golf league? We have a golf league. Reach out to Jake Sorens, and we currently have a golf league. We've had one for, what, a couple years now? Yeah. Yeah, we have a golf league. So, you know, that, that, that's kind of the thing that we kind of listen.
Starting point is 00:15:29 I've asked, and here's the other thing, I've asked talent here to do shows based on, on what people are interested in. I've asked Jake Sorensen, and I'll say this publicly, and you all can deal with Jake Sorens, I've asked Jake Sorensen to put together a golf show. 100%.
Starting point is 00:15:45 I've asked him. I've begged. I'm almost at the point in the demand. But I've asked, right? I've asked. Dan from Canopy. Thank you, buddy. Because the most important thing,
Starting point is 00:16:01 you are independent. It's glorious. Go big red. Yeah, I'm not, this is not corporate radio. We're not a part of the hubs, right? We don't have, but here's the other thing about us.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And at some point, I'm really going to take this and put it on a shirt. We are Lincoln Radio. We're Nebraska Radio. Every diamond dollar is here in Lincoln. We invested, Becky and I invested in Lincoln. We bought property here. We bought space in the building. We moved it downtown. We've expanded it, the growth. We've allowed people
Starting point is 00:16:39 who didn't have an opportunity to be heard to be heard. We're getting into niches now. We can get to expanding even greater. And I don't have to, listen, for local businesses, no matter the size, what your revenue stream, no matter what it is, you can walk in the door here ticket and make a suggestion in an offer. That you can advertise your companies and that we don't have to send it to Chicago. We don't have to run it up the flagpole to New York. We don't have to send it to Kansas City. We're locally owned and operated. We're locally owned and managed. So we get to make decisions about Lincoln High School athletics. We get to make decisions about Lincoln sports teams.
Starting point is 00:17:25 We get to have Lincoln coaches and Lincoln athletes. We get to have Nebraska athletes, Nebraska Wesleyan, Don't. If they want access to the airwaves to the federal FCC regulated airwaves, they can walk in the door at the ticket and have those conversations. Hey, that's a short list. And how many, how many stations in Lincoln? are live, local until midnight. That's a short list.
Starting point is 00:17:59 That's a short list. That's a short roll call, brother. That is a short roll call. So that's what we do and why we do it. And I make decisions based on what can we do to provide as much quality radio as often as possible to the people that want this. And we do it for free.
Starting point is 00:18:23 As a matter of fact, we're adding a cash contest. I think it starts next week. I think it starts next week. I'll check it at the break, but I think we're starting a cash contest. Plus, if you come into the mill and put your name,
Starting point is 00:18:36 we're giving away pairs of Michigan tickets. Yeah, people need to know that. Right, come on down. If you don't have tickets and you want tickets, come down to the mill, all you have to do is put your name in the box. I think we're giving away three pairs. I think we have three pair lines.
Starting point is 00:18:52 And I think it's noon tomorrow we know. Uh-huh. So, you know, you'll have time to plan. You have until noon tomorrow. Get down here. Who are all these like fit people walking back? I don't know. Like, yeah, what is happening? I keep wondering because I'm looking out for 95ers coming into town. Right. Well, maybe that's it, right? Maybe that's the thing. Maybe that's what's happening. So, yeah, it is the thing. Eric says this. And again, Eric, we have a fully mutual respect thing happening. I will say before you took over, I mean, we'll listen to other station as a ticket grew in
Starting point is 00:19:24 the other guys changed the ticket, got a ton better, proud to say that I'm a loyalist, appreciate you, GP. Appreciate you, Eric. In full. And the fact that you're willing to dial in the hill that GPS, GSP is the goat. But at least have those conversations, right?
Starting point is 00:19:39 So it's there. Right? Yeah. It's just a thing. We move. Text her. That's funny. Does it mean you're going to tamper with Brett Kane
Starting point is 00:19:54 and pluck him out of the transfer portal? I didn't know Brett Kane was in the transfer portal. I don't think he necessarily is. I don't know. I don't know. Here's the thing. There are 168 hours a week every week. And if somebody wants to be to do this, there are several ways to do it.
Starting point is 00:20:17 You can come in and pitch the idea. You can come in with a fully financed idea, right? If you can pay your way, you can pay to play. if you want commercials made, we can do that. Walk in the door. If you want to promote an event, walk in the door. If it's a local business with local business owners who want to promote their event or want to promote their business,
Starting point is 00:20:43 walk in the door. Whatever your budget is, we have something for the budget. We do that on purpose. We don't want to outpriced you, and we certainly don't want you to go broke trying to pay for advertising. No, come in, talk to Nick, talk to myself, talk to Jake. and say, look, I've got this really good company. I think we can do better business if we promote it.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I've got 168 hours a week to promote it. 30 ads per hour. Simple biz. Come in and tell me your number. You can record the commercial. You can have our talent record the commercial. Of course, Bach will charge you more than you doing yourself. Bach deserves talent.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Bach will tell you, hey, I'll record your commercial, but this voice ain't free. So that's all in play. We'll go to break more one-on-one when we come back. Watch live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch. You're listening to One-on-One with DP on 937, The Ticket, and The Ticketfm.com.
