You're listening to One-on-One with D.P.
Brought to you by Beatrice Bakery on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Welcome back to 101.
It's such a tragedy.
What's so much nonsense.
Oh, it's craziness.
People are just angry.
They're on the text on angry.
Did you know that I have an agenda?
Like in school when they used to give us the agendas, like the planners.
And it had like all the stuff and we had to put our classes in there and then write like our homework, like that kind of agenda.
Because that wouldn't be surprising. I mean, you've got a lot of things that you're juggling.
So writing it all down, I wouldn't be surprised.
Apparently I have an agenda.
Okay.
And I, for somebody that's also who said, let's keep politics out of sports, apparently that is all you do.
Yeah.
How dare you. Get it out.
I'm fascinating.
Keep politics out of sports like it's always been.
Yeah.
There's never.
been any politics in sports
whatsoever. Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. So keep
it away. Ever, ever, ever, ever.
Muhammad Ali.
Tommy Smith.
Whatever.
Joe Frazier, Joe Foreman
like bending with the flag.
Stop, I said keep it out.
It's not like that was long ago.
Hilarious.
Last month or something.
Hilar. Keep it out.
Here's what's funny.
That
anybody that actually takes time to know me knows how much, how love invested I am.
Like, purely at a base deep level.
Like, full extreme.
And so the nonsense to me is hilarious because I'm like, well, you know,
you don't have to like me.
But understand that I'm sitting here trying to give you access to Husker athletes and Husker coaches.
and Oscar fans.
Now, you don't have to like me personally.
You don't.
I'm not moved by whether a listener likes me or disagrees me.
That's not necessarily for me.
It just tells me how people operate that, look, I want to be in a positive space.
But what people can't say is that I don't care about the listener,
the sports fans of Link.
You can't say that.
Again,
we've expanded
five hours a day.
All with Husker content.
Like,
current and former Husker
content.
Now, you can tell me you love Husker sports,
but then you can't tell me that
you don't want to listen to the station because,
I don't know, you're going to listen to Nicklin Hames
or Cam Chick or...
That's too much Husker.
Like there's such a weird dynamic to it.
I like Husker sports, but not when they always talk.
Yeah, I don't like the coaches.
I don't like the coaches.
I don't like, like we talk about the people that want to have opinions but don't
want to know facts.
And the easiest way to deal with just facts is to deal with things that we know to be true.
So I'm just trying to give folks a place to come talk.
I mean, I'll tell you last night, because of the talking ten.
show.
Like, being around those young ladies and having them show you how hard they work and
how difficult this sport is.
And first of all, I went to a match last night against, meet last night against Ohio State.
And Ohio State came in number 22.
And I thought, okay, this is not going to be good.
Kenzie Robey was in a boot.
So maybe your best all-around performer isn't going to be able to compete.
So you've got to find a fill in.
you're facing a number 22 team.
First of all, there were a ton of Ohio State fans there.
A ton.
Like, they were, that O-H-I-O chant,
I was ready to throw one of those glow sticks they were given out.
I hate that chance.
Right, right.
Congratulations, you can spell a four-letter word.
Right, like, okay, Ohio, we get it.
You know the four letters.
Excellent.
Get them in order.
Two of them are the same.
Right, like to go through.
But to watch a lot of the Husker student athletes,
from other programs come in and support them,
gave me really the warm and fuzzies.
And then to watch them compete,
I think they end up losing by three-tenths of a point,
which, again, the difference between, you know,
number 22 in the country and the Huskers is 0.3 points
without your top performer.
Yeah.
But then to find out, you know, talking to the bowling team,
who, again, they've been staring down McKendry,
who is number one bowling team of the country,
their main obstacle for winning,
for repeating a national title,
and to listen to them talk about how much work it's required
and how they go through.
Like, if you're struggling, how do you get through?
And you think from a bowling standpoint
that those athletes aren't going through it, but they are.
They're like, listen, I haven't felt in my groove in a year.
Well, how do you get through it?
Well, I just have to learn to put it down.
Like, I have to just walk away from it.
I'm like, it's fascinating.
Swimming and diving, again,
you know, we've got a young lady who talks these people.
I mean, she's swimming the mile.
That's the work.
And she's an all-American.
And I wonder where the fan base is.
Like, it's fun to watch Ashley Skagen talk about her family and her teammates and all.
But I wonder where the fan base is.
Right?
Are you dropping 6,000 people for a 17 and 5 team?
Right?
Listening to Nicklin and Kenzie and they've agreed.
They've signed on.
They're going to do Wednesday nights from 9 to 11.
Like they want the full part.
Like we're going to go big.
Okay.
And then to hear them talk about the stuff they go through is fascinating.
Yeah.
But how much they love this university, how much they love this fan base.
And they get the reciprocal fan.
energy. They get that.
Cam Chick, Bryce Matthews.
Same thing. Like, they get it.
I can't wait to be at Haymarket and have this
fan base let loose
on a big 10 champion team.
Like they can't wait for this.
Baseball starts on like a week or two?
Mm-hmm. Soffball starts Friday.
Mm-hmm. Right? Northern Iowa.
That's softball show. At Northern Iowa.
Yep. The softball show starting
once their season starts.
I mean, we're constantly adding two.
Now, if you tell me,
you're not interested in those sports, that's cool.
But there are people who pay money to go support those teams.
So I'm going to give opportunity for those folks to be heard and seen and known.
That's what these ticket weeknight shows are about.
Just a chance to get to know not just some or the same Husker athletes.
There's a ton of athletes, really interesting, bright, brilliant people who wear the end that folks don't get exposure to.
So that's what we've been doing.
And I want to do the Superfan show
because I think there are some really intelligent fans
who have something to say in a positive, meaningful way.
They're not just going to come on and just rip people
and shred people and speak negatively.
We don't need it.
There's nothing for that.
I need people that care about Husker Athletics
and want to come in and talk about it.
And we want to provide those opportunities.
So tonight, 6 o'clock,
It's Talking Tens with Michaela Curtis and Kendri, Kinsey Roby.
Again, they were, man, they battled last night.
Michaela probably had her, I think she had two or three personal best last night.
Nice.
Right?
To go through.
Then Ashley Skaghan, of course, who led the Huskers against Maryland, led them in scoring
and is one of the top 20 shooters in the entire country.
She comes in to do her thing.
And then outside the box with the Lincoln Stars,
who had a big weekend, and they've got more events coming on,
as they head towards their vital point at the season.
And so we'll have that tonight.
And then tomorrow, teammates,
our Teammates mentoring hour from 6 to 7,
from 7 to 9, Riffin with Chris Raff and Aaron Davis.
And if you haven't been paying attention to those shows,
man, oh man, that is some good radio.
And then behind them talking trash with,
or trash talking,
trying to figure out which way we decided to go with.
With Dicklin Hames and Kenzie Knuckles.
and who knows who they're bringing in to do that.
Nicole Griffin last night with Malachi Coleman
and him telling his story.
I hope you guys are paying attention
because these are some pretty impressive young Huskers
and we just wanted to give them exposure
and give them, you know,
we want to give them an opportunity to be heard.
Simple, simple.
Simple, simple, simple.
It's trash talking.
It's trash talking.
Is that what you sent me?
Okay.
We will text them.
We do the high school show on Saturday, Joe.
You know that.
Joe makes an interesting point.
Those should be future Huskers.
Yeah.
Should be.
Yeah, but recent history says, you know.
Probably won't be.
Probably won't be.
But they're Huskers.
Their local high schoolers.
And again, you the fan base,
access to us. So if you want us to talk about certain student athletes or certain programs within
the Lincoln area, all you have to do is tell us. Tell us. And I'll give kudos to Joe. Joe wanted
high school exposure. So Joe came out of pocket and sponsored a high school show. Look, you guys
have access. With NIL, you can now sponsor these student athlete shows. We now have four days
from 6 to 11 o'clock at night.
We do high school broadcasts.
The state basketball tournament is coming up for men's and women.
We'll cover that, right?
You'll have that.
We'll add more shows to Tuesday night.
In two weeks, we will have a complete schedule from 6 to 11 p.m.
So 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
You want to support the Husker athletes?
There they are.
There they are.
like we give them all a stipend but you guys can sponsor them they each have at least an hour a week
that you can support them don't talk about it be about it step up and we want to thank moose is mad fresh
moose morrison just came in he's going to sponsor shovel of the husker athlete shows
bravo canopy market bravo eagle delivery bravo for stepping up uh for for mary ellens for stepping up
and supporting these student athletes in their endeavor to maybe give themselves an opportunity to do this professional.
Same for upside bar and lounge.
Thank you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And those businesses that are out there, you have the ability to make this thing work for these student athletes.
Look, I come out of pocket to pay for production and that sort of stuff.
Okay, but you guys, and here's the thing, those sponsors are,
sponsorships are going, that money is going straight to the athletes.
We take zero of it.
All of those people I just mentioned, all of that money goes straight to the student
athletes.
Why?
Because look, I wanted to create a place where folks, when I was a college student, these
opportunities were not available to me.
Rico, I'm pretty sure they weren't available to you just a few years ago.
No.
And this place, this building, we have the opportunity to expect.
I've got the time. I've got the hours.
The social outreach, community outreach.
That's what we want to be. We want to be here.
That's why I'm looking forward to being at the Home and Garden this weekend.
Friday to Sunday, we'll be there.
And in that space, there'll be tons of businesses and have opportunities to shake hands and meet people.
And maybe, maybe, maybe create some more NIO opportunities for these Husker student athletes.
Because, again, they're grinding and they're providing content and they're interdial.
introducing themselves to you and offering themselves to you.
Reach back out to them.
Their hands are open.
You reach out to them.
It's time.
It's time.
Ohio Husker says,
What's up, D.P.
What's up, brother?
Those Ohio chance are even worse living there.
I made fun of that channel a lot.
Yeah, I was making fun of it last night.
Fred says, not Hoyberg.
Fred, not.
I had to make sure I put that in there.
Right?
Love what you're doing for us to 9-3-7.
The ticket and the best Husker and all sports coverage.
There's always complainers.
It was great.
briefly meeting you last night at gymnastics, DP,
keep up the great work.
Fred, God bless you and thank you,
because we're just hanging out at gymnastics,
and Fred comes up, and he goes,
and he did the thing,
and this is why I do it.
Fred comes up, he goes,
DP, I just wanted to give you a fistbone.
What's up?
That made my night.
Because it was somebody,
and there were several people who did it,
but he did it a couple of times,
then he went, and he goes,
hey, Francis Allen, who was on your show,
he's right over there.
I was like, okay, you know,
you met Fred not Hoyberg
yeah right yeah he's popular right
yeah one of the Ohio state gymnasts
was from Omaha that explains but no but no no there's like
no there's like 40 50 Huskers
like they took it over
somebody says why do you give the negative people
any air time at all I am going to
snuff it like oxygen
I'm going to highlight the positive people
I've said that
right we'll get all that stuff all of that stuff
look I want this to be a place where
where positive is welcome
and there are people that get angry about me saying that
and that's okay
but I will die on the hill positive
I will you can be mad at me
for whatever reason you want to be mad at me
I'm cool with it I'm a grown man
I'm a grown man I'm okay with you being mad at me
We'll throw it to break when we come back.
I'll give away.
I'm probably going to give away two Beatrice Bakery care packages.

I'll read it out.

I'll tell you this.
And to be clear, so we understand what we're doing.
Opportunity for you to make somebody's day.
It's really that simple.
And if you're listening and tell me that you can't close your eyes and think of somebody
that you want to have a good day, a reason to smile, a pat on the back,
congratulations, a kick in the pants.
That's a different kind of living.
Think of somebody that you want to make their day.
Get those nominations in and we will see if we can put a smile on their face,
