It's time to go one-on-one with D.P.
Coming at you live from the Coppull Chevrolet GMC Studios,
here is your host, Derek Pearson, presented by Beatrice Bakery,
on 937 The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com.
Give me a moment to exhale.
I don't know what is going on.
First of all, I couldn't stop laughing.
from watching the horse that won
to conduct a derby just go full on gangster
after the race was over
and was talking trash, was dancing,
was pulling on the people
on the horse's hair that he had just beat.
He's just grabbing the mane.
It was like, yo, y'all, I won.
Hey, remember that time I was entered in this race yesterday?
I won't.
I'm the best.
I'm the best.
I'm the best.
I'm the best.
I'm the best.
Did you see the aerial view?
Oh, amazing.
Amazing.
I try to stay away from horse racing, but first of all, this is totally gangster.
There's no way he should have won.
Totally gangster.
No way.
Right.
So I'm laughing at that.
And then that, of course, led the gangster horse then led to people sharing videos of other gangster horses, right, who just misbehaving.
And there's one where there's a couple that's trying to scare this horse into a certain space.
and the horse pretty much shook the dude like he was Barry Sanders
and then decided to go full on Earl Campbell, Isaiah Robertson at the goal line
to the mom, to the woman.
And he stretched her out and then had no remorse.
What's good?
Like if he could have just raised his two legs and said, yeah, what's up?
Stood over her.
What's up?
Like I was like, okay, so I was doing it.
that and then of course
I don't know what mixed martial arts
organization do was in but he apparently had the weirdest
post game post fight you sent me that
that's the weirdest post fight interview
ever what like
what was his thought process to making all of his
intimate whatever public well can we stop interviewing
people who are congested from fights are there any bad words in that
I don't think he said any bad words.
I don't think he cursed.
Okay.
I'm going to,
I'm going to pull it up.
I just,
we can't do it justice if we just say what,
yeah,
if we just try to say what he said.
He was just,
he just went all out.
And so then there was that.
And so I'm just laughing.
I'm like,
okay,
I don't know what's going on.
Like I have no idea what is going on with humans.
And then to find out,
so the conversation about crabs.
So apparently crabs are not a thing in Nebraska.
Do you guys not eat crabs?
No,
people eat crab.
Like, it's not, you can buy crabs at the store or, you know, you could red lobster or wherever seafood.
But it's not like, like, not everybody is eating crab.
Okay.
So, again, back east is a big deal.
Oh, yeah.
Well, there's no, look, no ocean, no crabs.
You don't have any ocean, but they can fly the stuff there and ice it and keep it.
Is it the same, though?
It gets here in two hours on ice.
Okay, okay.
Like, okay.
But, and yeah, they're expensive when, when you're, when you're, you're.
trying to get them to the middle of the country.
But as a child, that was our weekend.
So we'd walk around to my grandmother's house and we'd go into the backyard and there
would be these two picnic tables that were just covered in paper and we would spend,
you know, five or six hours just sitting back there eating, dancing, whatever.
You know.
I felt a fight guy.
Yeah.
So nothing says, as Sanders said nothing says fresh seafood like Nebraska.
Yeah, and cool, it says we eat beef.
I get that.
So I was trying to figure out what it was that.
But the guy was talking about eating the, and what he called it?
Crab butter.
Crab butter.
And my thought is, first off, there are two.
So he called it crab butter.
We called it mustard.
There are two things wrong with this.
Crabbs don't make butter and crabs don't make mustard.
Yeah.
Don't eat it.
Right.
So you have people that tell you, definitely don't eat it.
You have people to tell you to eat it.
Don't be scared of it.
It has a little bit of texture.
There's a little texture to it.
which means it tastes weird in your mouth.
Don't do that.
It's weird in your mouth, so don't do it.
But then, so.
So then Jay brought up and he said the lungs,
what are you called?
Dead Man's fingers, right?
And somebody says, well, of course,
you get several different responses to should you eat those?
Because then it says, well, some of it,
what's dead man's fingers is telling you it'll kill you,
don't eat it.
And the other side of this thing is soft-shelled crabs.
So have you,
ever had soft shell crabs i have never had crab okay so i'm sorry first of all i've had crawfish
and they say crawfish crab lobser they're pretty close crab cakes are the greatest things ever um if i can
get a good crab cake sandwich i'm the happiest man ever i feel like i should try regular crab
first no no no you try the crab cake first go backwards crab cake first try the crab cake then regular
fried it always looks so like people make crab and all this i'm like it looks delicious i'm like it looks
And if there's a place to get crabs in Nebraska, in Lincoln, please let me know.
You can go to high V.
I don't know if it's the same.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know the crab guy.
But then soft short crab.
And the thing about soft share crabs is you press your finger to the top of crab into the shell, and it moves the shell.
But there are people who they fry the soft shell crab and then they eat it and they just take a bite out of the middle of the crab, which is the most surefire way.
to make my skin grow.
Look, I've never eaten crab,
but I'm sure it's not supposed to crunch
when you bite into it.
Like, I don't know.
I don't know.
I just, I never got that.
I never got that.
What is this?
Dunjys?
I don't know what a dungey is.
Is that a kind of crab?
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
So he says there's fresh.
It says, used to catch fresh crabs when I lived in Alaska.
I think that might be a type of crab in Alaska.
I'm not sure.
They said,
oh, here we go.
People giving you a seat.
Fresh seafood on 56th and Highway 2.
Okay.
All right.
And this is wild spicy, but awesome, had it the first time last week.
Buy all your seafood from surf and turf.
Monty will take care of you.
Okay, Monty.
Okay.
Okay, Monty.
Old Cheney Plaza.
Not Eric Chicken.
Flies in fresh seafood twice a day.
Oh, does this crab.
Okay.
Flies in fresh seafood twice a day.
Okay.
Monty.
That's got to be expensive, right?
Monty is apparently a rock star.
Look at the text line.
That's got to be expensive, right?
Monty's the best.
Well, you expect it because you don't do it all the time.
And it really...
What's just twice a day?
We did it because we could drive 10 minutes from Arlington to the pier in D.C.
And they would have them.
They'd put them out of Potomac.
And so they were there.
But you also knew that you had to get there.
Sometimes you had to get up early in the morning because if you waited until 11 o'clock,
gone.
No one.
It can be gone.
You get little babies.
You're out a lot.
So, yeah, so there's that.
I think that's.
Well, there you go.
There's your seafood place.
Okay, I'm going to write that down.
What up, Deep?
My dad doesn't even consider chicken meat.
He's what you call a red meat guy.
That's fair.
That's kind of fair.
I'm okay with that.
They have steak, too.
Oh, okay.
Well, it's surfing turf.
Okay.
All right.
Yeah, Moni's going to be a busy dude.
Moni reach out. We'll talk. We'll talk. Yeah, reach out.
I found the fight interview that we were talking about. It says Fury FC. I think that's the fight or whatever. I don't know what it is.
It was Fury FC 61 is a hashtag they use. It's from UFC Fight Pass on Twitter. But this is what guy said.
Well, just be prepared to be shocked. Yeah. Because it's a thing I've never heard in a post-fight interview before.
Last fight, I was tired.
I was exhausted.
I'm about to launch this NFT that's going to change the fight game.
And I put in 30 all-nighters before that fight at herpes before that fight.
Two outbreaks in the span of a week.
I'm here.
I'm healthy.
Let's go.
Whatever.
It doesn't matter.
Sir?
What?
Sir?
You're like, oh, yeah, he was tired.
He's pulling 30 all-nighters to watch an NFT.
Oh, BT-dubs.
I had herpes twice at two outbreaks.
Sir.
Sir.
Sir.
Sir.
Look, man.
Look, what you don't understand is you can't fight with herpes.
We will not be talking about NFT, sir.
I'm watching an NFT.
My harpies came back.
We're not.
We're not watching NFT, sir.
There will be no NFT discussion here.
Look, man.
There will be no NFT discussion.
That's going to change.
Got to change.
I mean,
are we wrong in interviewing fighters?
100% yes.
Immediately after you just took 60 shots to the brain.
100% yes.
Right?
Like,
I mean,
has there,
I mean,
like give these people time to relax.
Some of these people got choked out.
They had less oxygen to their brain and they passed out.
Like they just shut down.
Some people got knocked out.
Their brain literally was just like,
nope, stop.
You're done.
They get hit and their brain's like,
lay down.
Like,
I,
this was like a weird,
fighting weekend
because there was
really good fights going on
right a lot of stuff going on
Canello
getting getting beat down
like he just no show
like it just I've never
I don't know what happened
I don't know
what was going into his weekend
tired he was launching an NFT
well but but then the crazy thing
is that he made a ridiculous amount of money
this weekend yeah
I don't know
you had a couple UFC upsets
I mean so let me find out
the payout
for how much you get paid to lose
well not how much he went to the club
he went to the club he was in the club
he was okay that is also
he was guaranteed 15 million
and seven plus 70% of the pay-per-view sales
where the guy that won
got 2 million and received 30%
of the paper-view sales like I beat
Canelo but he still made way more than me
and guess what when they have the rematch
he's still not going to make as much
to know no no
and Canello is going to win.
We all like gills, like fishgill.
You got us all, right?
But he went to the club.
I don't get that part of it.
Like it happens a lot,
UFC boxing where you lose,
you get, you know,
dropped,
knocked out,
whatever you just lose,
you get,
you know,
decision.
And they're just like,
I'm going to go to the club.
Well,
because you need to pay off
for the training that goes out.
Like most of the MNMA fighters.
But like directly after?
Yeah,
they're where.
I mean,
especially in Vegas, if you have a fight, there is an afterparty.
Sponsored, a sponsored after party.
Your face swollen, you can't even see out of your eyes.
Well, but, I mean, nobody there cares.
Nobody there cares.
You just champagne bottle to, you know, dull the pain.
No, most of the fighters don't care.
That is wild.
Now, if they can't, now, if they have to get medical clearance.
Yes.
In order to do this stuff.
But most of those parties are sponsored.
They have sponsors who pay for all the stuff.
and if you're medically cleared,
so you always see immediately after a fight stoppage,
whether it's boxing or UFC MMA,
there's a quick baseline for whether you are acknowledging
or receiving messages from the doctor.
And then they will go back in the back
and then they're retested.
Because they have to do it for the winners too.
Well, they have to do a blood test.
They have to do baseline test, concussion based,
baseline test and all those things.
And of course, then, you know, blood pressure and all the other things are in play.
But for most fighters, that's a payoff.
Like the active party is a payoff.
And that's where you get to be, you know, celebrated or loved on, whatever way it is.
But I just think the post-game, like, Rogan jumps in the ring and tell us about the fight.
And in most cases, he goes, I don't really know what, I don't know what you're talking about.
and they don't remember the post game interviews anyway.
No.
Like there's too much your heart's racing through the sky.
So some of them, like, there was the one where this Connor McGregor lost and Joe Rogge, he's legs laying there with his leg.
He's sitting against the cage.
And, and Joe Rogan's like, so how do you feel?
Yeah, like he actually got down on the mat.
Yeah.
It's like, well, I broke my leg.
Yeah, Kool-Aid.
It's that thing, right?
You got to go in and you get tested.
They get in the back in the ambulance.
A lot of the fighters, like, on the opposite end of it, they go to hospital.
Like if you if you fight five rounds in a fight, you're probably going to spend the night in the hospital.
Yeah.
Even if you win, you're probably going to spend the night being monitored in the hospital.
You see those people who just get cut open as just gushing blood.
You're not going to the club.
Well, I mean, and so like, so Ferguson was fighting and he took a, he got kicked in the jaw.
Front kick.
Not like a, not like a rap.
That was a front kick.
He caught heel to jaw.
Like, I mean, you know, wow.
Like, and he drops so quickly.
He was out immediately.
He dropped so quickly.
He was out immediately.
And body bounced.
Right.
But you want to ask the question.
Like, how do you, that is a tough way to make a living.
And it's short-lived.
Longevity isn't the thing.
So these fighters who have fought long enough for us to know them, you know, my goodness gracious.
I mean, Derek Winters, he's got his next fight coming up, I believe in September.
I have to check that.
But I do want to shout out and send love to our friend Anthony, Lionheart'sman.
Got news this weekend that Anthony lost his mother out of nowhere this weekend.
And Big Man, let me tell you.
I know how much you heard you talk about your mom and all the things she's done for you
and your friends and the people around you and your community.
But, brother, we're thinking about you.
Just, you know, he's, he's a Nebraska kid, lost his mom this weekend.
He was, he had gotten his next fight assignment, so he knew what was going to happen as far as getting back in training.
And this is another kind of an elimination one next person.
If he wins this when he might be in the contender, top contender area.
But he lost his mom.
We're thinking about your brother, and I mean that from my heart.
and then Derek Minner got his next fight
I'll get the dates on that one so we can we can
celebrate that and get him and train back down here
and have that kind of have some conversation with them they've got a card
that train is promoting and running at PBA
I believe it might be in two weeks
to either this week or next week at PBA and
And, yeah, and actually sales are doing pretty well.
It's a 10-fight card.
Nice.
If you're looking to see some locals,
and it got a lot of local fighters on there.
And we're really missing out,
like on how many fighters at the top levels of UFC and MMA are from Nebraska.
Like, there's a ton.
As a matter of fact, one was just on the ultimate fighter.
Didn't go well for him,
but he will get a pro-contract just from making a house.
Yeah, Grand Dawson,
Yeah, Dawson just won.
He's on a win streak, and he's reaching contender status as well.
Yeah, he's a big dude.
Dawson's a monster.
Fits the mold of the all-American UFC fighter.
Rockjaw chin, you know, squarehead, gets his work done.
great looking dude models the whole should back
perfect grand dawson
yeah so yeah so if you're into
to mix martial arts
it's a big run coming up for Nebraska
and Nebraska fighters
so get your hat wrap
wrap your head around that
is there but let's try not to interview
them all right immediately after fights
because
hey you just woke up after getting knocked out
you just took a hundred punches.
Like, what is going on?
Hey, your eyes are still twitching.
It's not pretty.
Tell me what you're planning on doing after this fight.
Yeah, I have no idea.
As a fact, when I remember my name, I will tell you what I want to do after these fights.
This is the, we're at the end of the fifth round.
You got knocked out.
Tell me, in the first round, when you caught him with that right hook,
and he went down, what was going through your mind?
It was like, when was the first round?
first round? I'd like hamburgers.
This is the fifth round? Can you get me a milkshake? That's what I'm thinking.
That's all the...
And it was... It was a big weekend for the women's division.
Women's divisions because Thug Rose, Nama Yunus, got beat by the young lady who beat her
to start that division's championship. So when they, the first time they had a champion in that,
it was a new weight class. And so Dana White created a, uh,
you know, the ultimate fighter season to figure out who and he, you know, they brought in 20 young ladies and they narrowed it down, uh, to two. And it was Thugrose and, uh, Carla Aspaza. And Asparza beat her in the first ever ultimate fighter women's in that division to become the first, uh, first ever champion. First ever champion. And then she's had kind of an up and down, not up and not really down, but just not at that level.
she lost to Johanna Jinjayek
and then it's been kind of up and down, up and down.
It's a roller coaster of a career.
For her, and then she's quietly evolved
and got herself back up to top seed.
And the last time she faced Thug Rose, she beat her.
But everybody said, okay, Thug Rose is improved.
Carl is improved, but Thug Rose should win this.
And the fans hated the fight.
Really?
Hated it.
booed it.
Like it was like,
this is terrible.
Because it just wasn't,
they didn't really get after it.
They didn't really get after it.
And they said,
this was terrible.
It was terrible.
So there's that,
but it opens that division up again.
Yeah.
So the next few months in that division is going to be crazy.
So what happens?
Well,
because former champions are all going to jump back in the pool.
And they'll all start all over again.
So it's going to be, yeah, I don't think it's May 1st at PBA.
Brian, I think it's May, like, it's on a weekend.
Let me get you the date while I'm sitting here and thinking about it.
The spring brawl is May 21st.
Dynasty Combat Sports.
Again, of course, our buddy, you know, train and the menors,
Derek Minner's brother is on the card.
doors open at 630
tickets
range from
$75 to sit
first row
cage side
which means I probably need to go ahead and buy those
because there's only like four
two pair left
65 for second row
you can get
tables up front for
657 5550 the first three rows if you just buy a table of 10 upper general emission $35 day of
30 dollars advance so you can sit against PBA so even if you're anything up above off the
floor is general admission I believe and so then you can kind of get in and get there so
it's a nice card so if you're if you're looking if you want to check it out you want to see what it is
go do it.
Yeah, May 15th at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
With World Break, we'll come back.
Talk a little bit about baseball, a little about softball,
see what's going on there.
And then NBA playoffs, we'll see if RICO can get a streak going.
Let's see if you can get a streak.
You were so wrong.
You were so wrong.
We'll be right back.
