Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to one-on-one with DP. Brought to you by Canopy Street Market on 937, The Ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Paint your face. Pump up the muscles. Tie up. Tie up the arms. Hair spray. Get the big hair, bach.
Starting point is 00:00:21 We need the big, we need the 23-year-old bach hair. Like, we need you with the long locks. air sold up to ultimate warrior's height and status. We hit him with a warrior. Okay. This is how we go through. Anthony Lion Hart Smith joins us here. And again, first of all,
Starting point is 00:00:42 thank you for being exactly who you are all the time. Like it's another one of those blessings and curses. But A, this is like, and this is the thing. The beauty of this station is that I get to highlight, amplify really good people, really good stories. That's what this is. And I just know, I love our listeners so much that I know they need to hear you more. And that was the whole thing. It's like, when you were fighting, I'm like, I'm just telling people, Nebraska, y'all need to be proud of this, because this is a story story. This young man is brilliant, epic fighter,
Starting point is 00:01:20 but a brilliant mind. And a good-hearted person. You've been through some things and seen some things. Oh, yeah. And listen, to be where you are and to get where you are requires amazing strength. So let me just say that in a fair bit of stupidity. Well, but listen, I'm a member, I'm a card carry member of that club. So I fully, let me say, we know our own. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:48 You know, you know, we just go, oh, yeah. Yep, I see it. Okay, got it. Gotcha, got you. Got you. This is why we fight. This is why we fight for each other. From the text line, we did have somebody ask about the break-in.
Starting point is 00:02:01 Okay. And I, please walk through for folks who have not heard the story of you having somebody break into your house. Please tell that story. Yeah, so it was during COVID. Was that March, I believe. The world had just shut down. It actually wasn't even supposed to be home. I was supposed to be in training camp, but the world shut down.
Starting point is 00:02:20 And so I was home. And, you know, that's a really long story. I keep as short as I can. some some guy that um he's got some mental health problems was all messed up on drugs and all of psych meds was attempting to um unalive himself and it just really made him crazy uh broke into my house about four in the morning so i was me and my wife were sleeping um she kind of punches me in the chest and said there's someone in the house my wife does that a lot she's uh she's a worrier you know she's a little paranoid at time so she'll hear something she'll say oh you hear that there's
Starting point is 00:02:52 somebody here. There's never anybody there. This time she wakes me up, someone's in the house, whatever. And then I hear him. Oh, no, there's somebody in the house.
Starting point is 00:03:03 So, yeah, so I, you know, I go and do what I do. And he had a terrible night. He had a terrible night. That, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:12 I was joking with Bob before. I was like, yeah, this guy was making bad decisions and then multiplied them. Yeah, oh, yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:03:19 By dealing with that in that. It was the most scared I've ever been, though by far you've you've you've stood across toe to toe with the with the greatest punishers on the plant in my heart rate never raises just is what it is but that's different that is different that is different and i turn the corner and he's standing there and he's screaming he's got a big hoodie on his hood is up and like think about who's coming into my house unarmed and alone that's unlikely right the chances of that have to be close to zero yep there's nobody coming in my
Starting point is 00:03:52 breaking in for anything announcing themselves that they're there and then they're unarmed and alone. It seems really silly. You asked me. Yeah. And so when I ran into that situation, I was a hundred percent sure that I was that I was probably going to die. But as long as I kind of like tuck my head and as long as I don't take like a bullet to the head or the chest. Yeah. Adrenaline will carry me long enough my wife and get the kids up. That was kind of my plan. And then as we're going, I'm like, wow. He came in here alone. And I don't know. armed, man, right? Like, you're like, you deserve whatever. Whatever there. Also from the text line says, uh, what up DP? Uh, question for Anthony, if he could have one last match as a dream
Starting point is 00:04:31 match. Um, who would it be in why? Rampage Jackson. Be rampage. Rampage is, is, was and always will be my favorite fighter. Um, I think we're okay now. We had a little bit of a little, a little yeah, a little thing there. Yeah. I think we're back to being good now. Um, but I have just, I would always, I would always want to fight someone. from that generation, like a Vanderly Silva or Rampage. I already fought Shogun, so he's kind of in that same, you know, little, little group of people, but probably rampage. Also from the text line, now that you're retired,
Starting point is 00:05:04 who's the fighter that you cheer for the most that has the best shot to become the new new world champion? Oh, that's a, that's a loaded question. There's a lot of guys that I cheer for a lot. I can't always do it publicly because I do have to try to stay on bias as I can. but there are a few people that I just really, really root for. Malcolm Wellmaker. Love him.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Is very, very good. What a great discovery. Yeah, accidentally. Right. He's only been training like six years. He was a pipe fitter. It was welding until he hit his last, until he hit his first bonus. And now he was not working.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Then he hits another bonus. Really like that kid. Joshua Van. I don't know why I'm going towards a smaller guy. Yeah, but finisher, right? Yes, yes. really, really good, really clean boxer, young, really young, about to fight for the title. You know, he went from unranked to the number one contender in 24 days.
Starting point is 00:06:01 That is cool. Because he fought, won by finish. Yep. Then took a short notice fight against the number one contender, 21 days later. Yeah. Beasts the number one contender finds itself in a title shot. We want to talk about changing your life. Hey, man.
Starting point is 00:06:13 24 days, he went from unranked to the number one guy in the world. To go from working construction. Yeah. to fighting the goat. Yeah. Yeah, you know a little bit about that. Yeah, it's crazy. It's hard to do.
Starting point is 00:06:26 In terms of the bigger weight guys, you know, I really, the guy that I fought my retirement fight, I do find myself rooting for him. Talented. He's good. Talented. You know, of course, I feel like that's a beautiful guy.
Starting point is 00:06:41 I could have beat that guy, but he's very good. Really big for the weight class, hard hitter. Really humble, like his attitude. Even afterwards, it was super respectful. and trained hard. Trains really hard. He respects the game and the people
Starting point is 00:06:53 that came before him as well. So I think we're going to see big things out of him for sure. So we're going to put your your promoter hat on. Build a perfect card. Give me, give me, give me, give me,
Starting point is 00:07:05 you talk about the one at the White House. Yeah, I know you're trying. I know you're trying. So if the phone rings and they say one more fight at the White House, this is not even, this has nothing to do with politics.
Starting point is 00:07:15 This has nothing to do with any of that. Right. But you, if you can get it. you get a chance to fight at the White House, you fight at the White House. And it doesn't matter who's on the other side. Yeah, but give me someone old. We're not messing with the mother cats. They can have that. But give me, give me, give me, give me some of my age. Give me a five card, a five fight card, Anthony Smith production. I mean, I don't know how realistic it's going to. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:07:41 but, but if you, if you want to, like the five fights that you absolutely want to see, I want to see Colby Covington just because it's the White House Colby Covington versus Kevin Holland It would certainly be entertaining That'd be a great fight I would love to see Mosaar Evloev
Starting point is 00:08:02 Versus Maybe Gamrot I know Gamrod's talking about moving down to 145 Why? He's just a smaller 55er And he's not getting a lot of love at 155 And that's kind of the thing that's happening there are a lot of fighters who were taking the step down yeah well let's not forget
Starting point is 00:08:20 gamrott beat sirrucian which nobody talks about yeah which is yeah low key that's pretty that's pretty scary yeah yeah yeah yeah he beats sarucan in a decision he didn't just finish him like he he didn't just catch him and got lucky he systematically broke him down so that's true main event i of course i want john jones and tom ass well i don't know how realistic that is but to see that and then but privately just you and me how do you think that go just between us and no one else listening. I think John beats him. So do I.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Yeah. I think John beats him. For a guy that's never been taking down. I just think that happens. And John is so smart. The only thing that's going to beat John is his age. It won't, or John's father time. Or John.
Starting point is 00:09:06 So if he wins, it'll be because he aged out. Okay. Because John's burning the candle at both ends. I'll just do it with 37, 38. Yeah. This is the clock. Yeah. That is the clock.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Fight four. give me a fourth card for fourth fight let's see here trying to think of weight classes so i would say we need a middleweight fight i would love that i i suspect hamzot beats duplecce i wouldn't be shocked if du plesi one but i would like like a hamzot strickland fight would be good can i say i was disappointed by strickland du plussies two yeah it was too yeah it was tough i know i know i know Sean will never say this, but behind the scenes, I know Sean was hurt. I'm glad you said it. Yeah, he was pretty hurt. I'm glad you said it. Yeah. On a scale of 1 to 10, Amanda, I was going to say that's my last one.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Right. Amanda Nunes, Kayla Harrison. Like that, is that, is that the next fight of the century? Because I'm not sure that, aside from John and Aspinall, that the men can put together a fight as big as Amanda and Kayla. Ooh, I think there is, there's one other one that would be close. Well, if Islam, yeah, beats Jack Delamadalina, Seporia Islam at 55, may be the biggest fight we ever do. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Okay. Okay. Now, let's go into, okay, Bach, you ready? Have you limered up the finger? You got, you got it going? You got, you ready? Yeah, let's get that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:44 So, so recent, recent USC news, headlines. Mm-hmm. Your boy. That's not my boy. Damn. He, everybody's boy right now. Everybody knows him a little bit better than they did a week ago. They got a different look of him than they did before.
Starting point is 00:11:00 What is happening in your city? What is happening with Connor? Why does this happen? I've been trying to figure it out for a long time. You got to remember, like, for anyone listening or if you're at home, When you find yourself around people, you find yourself around someone who's got four or five hundred million dollars, they're different. Whatever they're...
Starting point is 00:11:23 Man, you just said the thing that I've been trying to explain to people. It's different. They're barely regular humans. They live a different life. It changes who they are. But more than anything, what it does is it amplifies who you already are. So if you are poor and you don't got much money, but you care about people, you want to help people, you do some change.
Starting point is 00:11:44 charity work, you go to, we work at the mission, you try to feed the homeless. If you're a pretty good person anyways, you help your friends, you're a good, you know, you're a good son, you're a good husband, you're just going to amplify that with four or five hundred million dollars. You're just going to be way better at what you do. You're going to have all the resources in the world to do all those great things that you already would do anyways. Now, if you're already a dirt back and you're and you were already you were already poor and you already had no money and you were already a dirt bag and you were already treating people badly and you already thought you were better than anybody and you already had this god complex and you already had all these
Starting point is 00:12:21 terrible things about your personality now give that guy four or five hundred million dollars and he makes a video to do something you're giving him four or five hundred million dollars to do something he would do for free so he doesn't respect it anyways he doesn't the money anyways. Wow. Because he was doing it for free before that. And he's just given more access to do more. And so now all he, now he has access, resources, protection, and his ability to buy his way out of it. And who's going to leave that guy? Right. Right. Like if my wife had four or five hundred million dollars. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And she's she's posting, going in to toppless pictures. Listen, baby, I love you. Just come home to me. Yeah, yeah. You do whatever you want. What's you want for dinner? But I want a new car. I'm going to cook. I'm going to take care of the kids. I would pray that you keep doing bad things because every time you do, I'm going to get something out of it. I want a boat. But that's the reality. That's the reality. In this space that we're talking about, people are.
Starting point is 00:13:18 She's a bit of prisoner. People want to see him fight. There's no. I don't know that that's even true. I don't know that anybody wants to see him fight anymore. I think that the only, I think that I don't know that that picture came out accidentally. Yeah. He sent, he sent an explicit.
Starting point is 00:13:36 photo to one of the most dangerous loose cannons on social media. He had to have known that she was going to send. He's not stupid. But he's so hungry to go viral. Thirsty. He needs the attention, whether it's good or it's bad. He needs it. Listen, that's a drug in itself. Man, there's power in it. We're going to go to break one final segment with Anthony Linerd-Harsmith. And I have to ask him two things. One, I need for him to talk about a little bit about John Jones, because I think as the face of the sport, and one to ask, is he still the face of the sport? And then two, I need, I need line hearts Mount Rushmore. I need the ones that if we're trying to identify to aliens who have never seen this thing, the four people that they need to watch to understand what
Starting point is 00:14:33 mixed martial arts is all about in the UFC, who would you send them to? We'll get that from Lionheart when we come back.
