Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to One-on-One with D.P. Sponsored by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul on 93-7-the-ticket and the Ticketfm.com. Final segment of one-on-one right here on 93-7 and Ticketthetthetofm.com. I am not DP. DP is out in North Carolina. I am Rico joined by one Barry Thompson on the line. This hour brought to you by Ambition Electric, the Barry Thompson hour. But one-on-one is sponsored by Mary Ellen's head out of the time.
Starting point is 00:00:36 the South Lincoln and get yourself a delicious plate of food. Speaking of food, Barry Thompson, what are we eating today? Well, I kind of said before the break, we're kind of snacking. In Korean and Japanese cuisine, especially Korean cuisine, you don't really have like a main course, you know, an appetizer, that type of thing. It's really an enumeration of a bunch of kind of smallish-type dishes. And sometimes they're called bon chimes. Japanese have a similar style, and this dish is a Japanese dish.
Starting point is 00:01:13 And it goes along the theme. Last three times, I think I've been talking about stuff that is kind of cool and refreshing. So we did watermelon, like juice, right, and the kind of things you did before the, you guys had that event, 4th July weekend. And then I did the soba noodles, cold soba needles, which are there. This is a dish called, and then give you a funny name now, and I spell it because I can't pronounce it. S-U-N-O, S-U-N-O-M-O-N-O-S-O-N-O-M-O, I think is how you pronounce it. Okay. But a real simple dish.
Starting point is 00:01:49 It just involves cucumbers. So it's about four tablespoons of rice, wine, vinegar, a couple tablespoons of sugar, a little teaspoon of salt, a little bit of soy sauce, and that is, in effect, the dressing, and just stir everything up until the salt. and the sugar is dissolved. Some people don't like seaweed. There's a type of seaweed called Waukeme. If you don't like it, don't put it in. But I like it. It's that you can find it in stores,
Starting point is 00:02:19 and you take about a tablespoon of Wachamee or not. Then you take the skinny cucumbers. You want a cucumber that doesn't have a lot of seeds in it. You can find these Persian cucumbers in a lot of places or a smallish English cucumber, that long long run, a plastic wrap. it's real. And you just want to slice those real thin. If you have a mandolin,
Starting point is 00:02:41 you know, watch your fingers. But you can slice those really thin. And then you take about a teaspoon of salt and you put it over top of that, the cucumbers, and you want to massage as much salt into this thing. Let's sit for a few minutes. And what will happen is the moisture will reach out and it makes the cucumbers kind of crispy, which is really good, right? You're talking about cool and crisp.
Starting point is 00:03:03 And that's really it. The cucumbers go into the that little dressing that you made. You can throw on the walk in there if you want, and you just stir it around, and it's a very refreshing, addictive-type dish, different toppings, imitation crab on, different things. But you can just have it with just the cucumbers if you want.
Starting point is 00:03:24 That little dressing, just the cucumbers, and, you know, you chill it a little bit, and it's one of my favorite kind of things that I'm about to haul off and make a big bowl of it when we get off the air here. Well, Barry, that sounds like a very refreshing snack, and I don't want to keep you from your Suno-a-mono, so I will allow you to get over there and make it for yourself and start snacking.
