Again, the video streams are live.
So are those chat spaces if you want to text in or comment along the way.
Again, we are going to give away in the Beatrice Baker Care Packets today.
some folks in mind, but I'm open to your suggestions as well, people that you care about.
Who is it that you just want to make smile today?
You.
All you got to do, the ticketfm.com, go find the Beecher's Bakery banner,
or you can put it here on the starter hymn text line if you wish and if you want.
A couple of things from the text line.
Nebraska already, Hasker Howie says this.
Nebraska already has two quarterbacks from Nebraska and Harburg,
and massacre, and both of those are likely, likely won't see the field much in the next two years.
Harvard's potential was compared to Justin Herbert coming out of high school, and we haven't developed.
Even Zane Forrest came here.
I'm not sure the staff would have done much developing and successful Big Ten quarterback.
Now, you have new coaches in the space, new developers in the space, new passing game coordinator,
and of course, Mark Whipple, as the offensive coordinator who has recent history and success of being able
to develop players.
I tend to
give people space in projecting what they
see in a high school
quarterback, but you've got to remember, high school
quarterbacks are super underdeveloped.
It's rare. I can tell you,
like if you were basing it on potential,
on potential alone,
from production, Noel Walters
would have been a call, and that's an
easy call to make. Easily.
That was an easy call to make. You're going off potential
and number, like, that's the guy.
The greatest producer in Nebraska quarterback history, high school quarterback history.
And you didn't, you gave the preferred walk-on?
No, man.
Oh, and also his teammate is a really highly rated broad receiver in the next class.
Right.
I mean, it would have made way too much sense.
That's a layup of astronomical proportions.
It would have made way too much sense.
But as again, your actions are louder than your words.
So if you tell me you're trying to recruit in-state talent.
especially the best in state town,
then your numbers have to match that.
Your efforts and your attention have to match that.
And we know that the focus of Nebraska's recruiting
has not been in local quarterbacks.
It's somebody named Riola.
And I'm good with that.
You take your shot.
You go all orders in the water to see if you can get a talent like Riola,
if that's what you're doing.
like if you're really going to do your best
we're shooting for the moon on everything
shooting for wounds on everything
bad man the whole shabat
right because they know
you're going for it go for it go for it's a known entity
right you know the dad you know the uncle you know
the family you know the entire family
and if you're not
shooting your shot at the highest level
with him then you're not
also not shooting the highest level with anyone else
You can't.
You can't.
If you don't have your ducks in a row,
it doesn't matter who you're recruiting.
You're going to end up with less than what you should have.
And again, I don't know what their focus is.
They haven't said what their focuses.
They haven't said.
So we're sitting out here in the vortex, you know,
just trying to get some understanding from movement.
Just twiddling our thoughts.
Right?
From a distance.
Yeah.
And I'm cool with that.
Because I expect them at some point to announce, and they will.
But good stuff.
Corbate asked the question, and I thought of this as weekend as well.
He asked the question, what do you think about Riala's tweet about Ohio State fans?
First of all, he was purposeful.
He and the family, I would imagine, are very purposeful in anything they put out from this point forward.
They're fully aware of the cross-engagement of Big Ten teams.
they understand the want and need for Nebraska fans
to feel like the best fans and to get the best players.
Like they actually feel like they have a shot at the number one player in the country.
But you could actually be the fourth best choice for them.
Right?
But he said was that after spending the week at the spring game,
that Ohio State had the best fans.
Now, Ohio State didn't have, I mean, look, they had 60,000 people at their spring game.
Those are the numbers, 60,000.
and they win consistently.
That's a big one.
They also produced a ton of NFL quarterbacks.
They produced a ton of NFL everything.
Well, but so not only are, not only.
Yeah, but the thing is, like, you're not only going to be developed into what they're producing in NFL quarterbacks,
but, oh, by the way, they've produced many NFL offensive linemen, so you're protected, many NFL running backs, so you have somebody to hit NFL wide receivers, NFL time.
Like everything is just there.
If you're number one, your projection is the NFL.
Yes.
Your hope is the NFL.
And so if you're doing that and you have the choice between a program that has not produced NFL quarterbacks
and a program that constantly produces NFL quarterback.
All the time.
All the time.
Even less talented players.
They're so good at producing NFL quarterbacks that they've let NFL quarterbacks go.
Go to become.
the number one quarterback taken in following years.
Because, oh, by the way, because, oh, they had an NFL quarterback.
They had four in front of them.
So do we understand what Dylan Riola's thinking might be?
Yes.
Again, no assumption required.
No.
And we can also say, listen, we also understand him talking about Howard State fans at 60,000 in crappy weather in April.
And I don't know, he knows how he was treated here,
and he knows how he was treated there.
He knows.
So whatever that is, it is a statement outlaw.
We don't have to like it,
but we can hope for better and try to understand it.
Drumstick says,
Raoul didn't grow up in Nebraska.
Even Dom said he doesn't have a favorite college team.
Do we really expect to get him?
We should focus on the in-state kids.
but the recent track record
with the best quarterbacks in the state
hasn't been good
help me out help me understand
what was the last year
where the best quarterback in the state
stayed in Nebraska
help me understand
when the best player in the state stayed home
is that a fair question
I have to look that one up again
because I immediately went to
Um
Cam Juergen stayed
Eric that is hilarious
uh yeah he quotes he goes
Nebraska doesn't produce NFL quarterbacks um have you heard of
Tanner Lee sir
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hilarious
um let's go that's funny that's funny
that's a funny text
2022
I don't know if Ernest Howison was the best
Ken Ken says this you don't let your recruits decisions
determine the direction of your goals
for programs.
Actually, you do.
It's recruiting.
It's recruiting.
It's recruiting.
It's recruiting.
Their decisions are the whole thing.
Their decisions are the whole thing.
Guys aren't,
even guys who are being offered by Nebraska
aren't staying in Nebraska.
Ah, 2020.
Xavier Betts.
Okay.
You're funny dude.
You're a funny dude.
And then Notre Dame,
Kansas State,
northern Illinois,
Nebraska.
Isaac Gifford, 2020.
Look, I mean, it's just for real conversation purpose.
I don't know what the answer is.
I'm trying to get to the right question.
As a fan base, I've said this 100 times.
Tell me what the focus of the program is.
And then I will tell you what the priority in recruiting should be.
But we haven't landed on what is the priority.
We've said that winning is the priority.
It's not.
It's a 3-9 program.
It's not the priority.
No.
Money.
Is that it?
It kind of seems like it.
I don't.
Is it comfort in having Nebraska kids and legacies in the program?
Is that the most important thing?
Right.
Look, look, you think about this way.
Think about what do you have more?
You have more Nebraska folks on the, on the,
a full roster, then you have four star and five star.
Do you have more three stars from out of the state than Nebraska kids?
Like I would think that without even checking, I would think that you have 80 kids, even
including walk-ons from Nebraska.
So you're doing a good job of getting a bunch of Nebraska kids.
The question is, are you getting the right Nebraska kids?
That is another question.
That's the space, right?
Yeah.
So based on the rankings, 2021, Hyderick Harburg was the best quarterback in the state.
That's a whole not other conversation then.
Right?
Yes.
What other conversation?
Yes.
So what is the, what should this program's recruiting focus be?
In state players or talent?
I say talent.
Okay.
then if it's talent in space, in this space,
is it talent that you can get
or is it simply in-state talent,
which would be less talented,
but you can get them?
Because the two aren't always...
No.
I don't know.
You...
You have to go after the talent.
I understand the in-state
and the wanting the kids to stay here,
but if you're going after an end-state,
state kid who isn't as talented as a kid in, I don't know, Arizona that wants to come to
Nebraska. You can't just say, well, we're not going to take you. We're going to take the kid who's
in state because this is, no, no, not that. This is the thing that you hear. He's from here. He knows
what it takes and he wants it more. He cares more, which I don't. He wants it more. That's, that's the,
If that's your marketing and that's your branding, other people hear that too.
See, every time that said, a kid like Raula hears it.
And as somebody said, he didn't grow up in Nebraska.
Right.
I mean, the fan base is reacting to the program.
The program gets to set the narrative and it gets to set the focus.
My statement is that they haven't set the focus.
They haven't told us or anybody.
Maybe they know, and they talk amongst themselves about,
here's what the focus is and here's what the priority is.
But I don't know what the recruiting MO is.
I don't know what boxes need to be checked when it comes to recruiting
and how they make decisions about who it is they're going to recruit and who they don't.
I don't know.
Like, if you tell me that you want to win, you want the best in-state talent,
then the Gatorade player of the year should be top of the list first offer.
That is the best talent.
Right.
You can put lipstick on pig any other way you want.
But the reality is if you tell me that in-state talent at the highest level is the greatest commitment,
guys who could play for you at the highest level,
then the Gatorade Player of the Year,
the pair who produced more numbers at that high school level at that position
that any player in Nebraska history, then that box has to be checked.
And if anybody says, oh, they did often, they didn't really often.
It's a preferred walking.
It's not an offer.
We know what a scholarship.
We know what a full scholarship is.
Yeah.
That's not an offer.
And also know that even if you wanted him as preferred, you could get him in the program and not make him pay.
It happens on a regular basis.
There are kids on that roster.
We understand that.
I mean, I'm not going to play dumb for them.
But what I want to know is what you're doing, how you're doing it, so that when it comes up in discussion, we have an answer.
It's not my job to have the answer.
I'm trying to get to the right question.
And once again, I don't know what they're doing.
I'd love to know.
But that's not the space I'm in.
And I like the 10,000 foot altitude view.
Like, it is what it is.
I can sit back and look down and go, wow, this looks interesting.
Doesn't look organized because you don't hide a good thing.
If you're playing as good, you never have to hide it.
No.
You don't have to hide it.
I don't have to whisper in back halls.
I don't have to have to do it.
I can tell you simply for what we're doing.
This is what's happening.
This is what, listen to Brasca fans, this is what our focus is.
Yes, we want the best in-state players.
Then you have to get the best players.
And we want the best talent outside of this, outside.
Like, we want to dominate our region.
Okay.
if the best player in the region isn't dominated,
then you can't tell me.
You know what an easy thing to say to cover all those bases are
is we want the best players that want to be at Nebraska.
So Mark says there's 65 Nebraska's 65 Nebraska
on the current roster.
65.
Now, I'll ask you and be honest with me.
Be honest with me, people.
Be honest with me.
Are there 65 high school players in the last four years
who could help you win Big Ten football games?
Tell me anybody that saw,
65.
Forget about the ones that left
because that number matters too.
Are there 65 players from inside this state?
Who did not go somewhere else
who could help you win Big Ten football games.
And if the answer is no,
then you have to figure out what number you need
and then you need to figure out how to get them here.
Right?
And know the breakdown.
How many Nebraska quarterbacks
do we need. How many Nebraska offensive
linemen do we need? How many Nebraska
running backs? How many Nebraska
tight ends? Right? Because we know,
oh, there's some here.
You could get them. There's talent. There's
plenty of talent. How many Nebraska
high school receivers do you need
each year and on
the program at all times?
Both things matter.
This year and on
the roster at all times.
Because that dictates recruiting.
That's how recruiting is
done everywhere else on the planet.
And if you're not doing it here and you don't know what it is,
you are going to be in the dark.
And you're also going to be chasing from behind.
Just saying that.
So we'll go to break.
We'll close out one-on-one.
Get you all set up for the captain's show.
