Starting point is 00:00:00 It's time to go one-on-one with D.P. Coming at you live from the couple Chevrolet GMC Studios. Here is your host, Derek Pearson, brought you by Mary Ellen's Food for the Soul, on 93-7 The Ticket and the Ticket FM.com. Welcome to it. Happy Friday, everybody. Appreciate you guys hanging out with us on a Friday that, it's a good weekend.
Starting point is 00:00:32 I want to know, text in. Let me know what you're going to do this. weekend. What are you doing this week? Just texted it. 42464. 56685. Start a hymn text line. Are you calling Hondo Lincoln Hotline? We were supposed to hear from Charles Phillips from Mary Allen's food for the saw. I don't know that we will
Starting point is 00:00:49 because I didn't hear from him. So we'll make it move there, Rico. Maybe he's not going to call and he's just going to come in with food. Oh, that was the other part. Rico, do it. This hour is the fastest hour in radio and it's sponsored by Allo. I like my cars, delivery drivers, and
Starting point is 00:01:05 internet the same fast. I'm talking the kind of fast that delivers equal upload and download speeds. Buffer free gaming, buffer free streaming and lag free gaming. Switch to Allo for 500 meg and one gigabit speed options plus free installations. Anyways, call Allo Today in Lincoln for residential 402-480-6550 or for business at 402-480-650 or chat with them online at aloefiber.com. Good stuff all around. Again, to thank the folks from Mary Alon's Food for the Soul. I know that he's coming in next Thursday morning. Next Thursday morning he's coming in.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I want to. There's a lot to do with this. That's pretty fantastic. Yeah. So, because we're going to be in Indianapolis. We'll do the show Monday from here. I believe Rashaun will do his show probably from the Red Room if I would imagine
Starting point is 00:02:10 because we're flying out of Omaha that afternoon and then we go to Indy and then myself, J. Foreman, Vashon, Eric Strickland will go to Indy for the Big Ten Media Days to represent you folks. Monday I will take questions
Starting point is 00:02:28 that we will take with us that you want us to ask players, the things that we can ask them. Plus, we'll have the opportunity to interview other coaches, other players from around the Big Ten conference. And we will do that in your court. We greatly appreciate the support you guys gave and we're allowing us to do that. So we're going to do that.
Starting point is 00:02:51 It's coming up, so we know what it is. If I could ask you, who is the one coach you want, aside from Frost, obviously, who is the one coach from the Big Ten that you want to talk to? want to talk to. Yeah. Like the one coach you want to. Want to talk to. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Like you personally. Want to talk to. Talk to. You know. Um, the space that I'm in, it's Mel Tucker. It's Mel Tucker.
Starting point is 00:03:25 It's Mel Tucker. Okay. Because it removes a lot of the filter where you just get to ask, okay, what did you do? Like, what did you do? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:36 How did you do this? Because amongst the Big Ten conference, there's a whole bunch of coaches who have done certain things. But I don't think anybody's gone, I mean, last to first. I mean, he and Fitzgerald, too, that know how to fix things when they go wrong. Or at least short-term fix them when they go wrong. So Tucker can answer some question. Fitzgerald, we're going to ask about Ireland. Like that's a thing.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Like, we didn't make many requests, but I requested Patrick. Fitzgerald. Like I want him, I want, what I want, there's several situations that, things that I want, I want, Jay Foreman talking linebacker with Fitzgerald. Oh, I didn't even
Starting point is 00:04:20 think about that. Right? Like I want Jay Foreman going nose to nose with Matt Millen. Yes. Right? So let's get the linebackers in play. Let's get some of the quarterback conversations in play. Getting offensive minds, getting Vashon. Vashan and Mel Tucker would just be radio gold. That sounds like fun.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Right? Like that's a good. Another thing with Mel Tucker is, you know, he built that team last year on a whole bunch of transfers. Nebraska's trying to do the same this year, you know, ask for some parallels, some stuff like that. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Be very interesting to see what he says about, you know, building, not like building a team, but having his team last year be constructed of something. so many transfers and having the transfers, you know, be some of the ones that contributed very strongly to last year's team. Yeah, so to be able to ask questions and to be able to ask the players. And again, it's different for an Ohio State linebacker to come talk to D.P. As is them talking to Jay Foreman, like an offensive player at a big time. All those schools have probably announced who's going.
Starting point is 00:05:25 I haven't checked. We're going to go through it. I mean, that's literally we can go through that. So go ahead and dive into that. Yeah, I'll do that. And we can go into that. Because there's plenty for it. We were having the discussion earlier,
Starting point is 00:05:38 just over, you know, heroes and that sort of thing. And then somebody brought up, you know, sports movies. And as part of you were going to talk, you know, Brian's song, you're going to talk Hoosiers' Field of Dreams. Those movies are sports movies that tug at the heart. Like there's some memorable things. It's the human element that each of those movies were exceptional at exposing and diving into, delving into.
Starting point is 00:06:05 And so then you have the conversation, what defines a sports movie? So, you know, what is a sports movie? And then you dive, it's a deep dive. Like then, it's a deep dive. But you can go online and people will define, bless you, kind sir. Kind sir.
Starting point is 00:06:27 What makes a sports film? And the definition that was given was a film genre that uses sports as the theme of the film, right? It is, and it goes, it goes a little further, and so we'll go into it. It is a production in which sport, sporting event, athlete and their sport, or follower of sport, and the sport that they follow,
Starting point is 00:06:53 are prominently featured, prominently featured. Prominently. Out front, in the middle, at the end. Right? Despite this, sport is ultimately rarely the central concern of such films. And sport performs primarily in an allegorical role. Furthermore, sports fans are not necessarily the largest demographic in such movies, but sports fans tend to have a large following or respect for said movies.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Now, there's sports comedy, sports dramas, right? All different things. There's several sub-dramas as well. And then it's got the highest grossing. So I'm going to go through some of the highest grossing sports films based on that particular. Sport. Definition. That definition of.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Now, do you consider motor racing sport? Yeah. What do you think the number one motor racing movie of all time, most motor racing, motor racing, movie of all time. I don't know. Cars. Cars is third. Cars. Cars. Cars one. Cars two is ninth. Cars 10. Well, no. Cars two is third. Cars is four. Okay. I don't know. Herbie. Fast and furious. That's not a sports movie? This is a. This is a. This is a.
Starting point is 00:08:35 where the line is, Rico. Wow. And number one is number one is Furious 7. Okay. No. Furious 7. If you would have gone one of the first three, I understand. But after that, it's not about the racing anymore. It's not racing.
Starting point is 00:08:51 I'm just driving fast. I'm just driving it on the genre, Rico. No, they're wrong. I'm not. That after the first three, it's not about racing anymore. It's more about taking fast cars and doing insanely stupid stunts and trying to stop bad guys from doing things because somehow they go from
Starting point is 00:09:06 breaking the law. So it's not about the racing to working with the FBI. So it's not in the race. So from your thinking, Cars 2 is the Yes, Cars 2 is the highest grossing. Okay. Fast and the Furious. And then Cars 3 is right behind that. So just
Starting point is 00:09:23 let you know that in that space. Although Cars 2 is more about Mayer being a spot. Well, I just pointing it out. Now, Battle Royale is a theme. Battle Royale, is a theme. I don't even know what movie would be considered a battle royale.
Starting point is 00:09:40 So hunger games. Hunger games, catching fire. Number one. There you go. Catching, Hunger Games won. It's not a sports movie. Catching fire won. It's a contest.
Starting point is 00:09:51 It's about the contest. It is. It's also about the government. Now, do you consider Forrest Gump a sports movie? There is the smallest part of sports in there. that small portion where he's an Alabama football player, unless they're considering him running across the country as a sport, Forrest Cup is not a sports movie.
Starting point is 00:10:15 That isn't an everything movie. Here's where I get, this is where I, because a lot of this is animated, so I tend to think animation removes you from this conversation. I just do. Not animated and full in sports or battle. Battle.
Starting point is 00:10:33 battle like gladiator number 11 all time the number one battle and number one in the battle genre there you go fighting fighting fighting
Starting point is 00:10:45 I forgot the table tennis fighting yeah right right my bad fighting also running in force gun yeah whatever fighting fighting and it and and and and and and and they split the genre
Starting point is 00:10:58 they split it between boxing and mixed martial arts so mixed martial arts so mixed martial arts martial arts this is a layup is it layup it's a layup well then i'm an idiot it's a layup i just blew the wide open layup oh karate kid wow karate kid karate kid carotty kid i get that right karate kid uh what do you think is the number one grossing boxing movie of all time of the rockies one of the rockies which which rocky uh which rich rich rich rucky uh which which which will
Starting point is 00:11:35 Which Rocky. Which Rocky? Are people going to tear me apart for this? No, because, well, this is the one, though. This is the one that has so many of the necessary boxes checked. Rocky 2. So let's go. So Rocky 1 is the birth of Rocky 1.
Starting point is 00:12:08 It is. Rocky 2 is the rematch. Rocky 3 is Clubber Light. Right? What's number 4? I must break. Yeah. Rocky 4 is the highest ranking boxing movie.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Highest grossing. Rocky 3 is immediately behind that. Yeah, Willie says Rocky 4. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yep. Okay. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Oh, these genres are spectacular. the highest grossing football movie of all time. Football. Is this a layup? Think star power, quotability. The longest yard. He's got a lot of star power. Catchphrase.
Starting point is 00:13:06 What movie has a ton of catchphrases? I don't know. Show me the money. Jerry McGuire. I was going to see somebody says replace. I was going to say replacements. Jerry McGuire. Somebody said the Express Titans.
Starting point is 00:13:26 All in place, right? They fall right behind that. These genres are amazing. Exventura. Dance movie. Yeah, Ace Ventura should be like way up on the list. How do we fail? We fail as a society.
Starting point is 00:13:42 It's a football movie. It is. It absolutely is. It's about football. Dan Marino's in it. Absolutely. How could you get more football than that? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:48 There's a dolphin. Like they're in the stadium, like a large portion of the move. Ray Finkel? Like Finkel. Finkle and Ihorn. Laces out. Lace is out. Finkle is Einhorn. Einhorn is a man.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Eindhorn is a man. So good. Dance movie. Dance movie. Dance movie. Dance movie. Dance movie. This is old school, baby.
Starting point is 00:14:19 I'm not going to get it. Oh, you should know it. It's the dance movie. It's the dance movie. Step up. Before that. It's the dance movie. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:34 It actually made dancing mainstream. Dirty dancing? No. That's what somebody said. Before that, this one outgrossed that. I don't know. What is it? Saturday night fever.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Oh. Saturday night. Night fever. Somebody said, Jesus, Rico, footloose. Not footloose, Eric. You're wrong, too.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Of course, the number one Dodgeball movie is Dodgeball, so that's easy enough. Yeah, Raff said dirty dancing also. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:15:07 See, I'm not wrong. All of you are wrong. It's so good. Number one bobsled movie. Go. Bob sled movie? Uh-huh. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Yeah. Come on, Rico. Oh, my gosh. No. Come on, Rico. Why is it's happening? Come on, Rico. Oh, this is you're making bobsom.
Starting point is 00:15:22 What can I remember the title? Oh, no. This is the beginning of the decline of Rico that you, when you know the movie. Everybody knows the movie. Cool running. Yes. His lucky egg is the Jamaican bobsled team. The first one's ever.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I could not remember the name. Oh, my goodness. This is what happens to, like, this is where I'm at that phase where you just go, wow, my brain is really. Why would you do that? As soon as you. You're just pops at it. I was like, ah,
Starting point is 00:15:51 oh, oh. You know what's really weird? I'm looking through this. And they don't have, oh, they don't have the big sports in it. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Here we go. Peace be the journey. Peace be the journey. Golf. Is it an Adam Sandler movie? Golf. Hilarious. It's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:16:27 To tell you that Herbie was actually in the top 15. So just don't feel bad. Yeah. Hockey movies. Is it Happy Gilmore? Hockey movies. Does Happy Gilmore count as both hockey and golf?
Starting point is 00:16:37 It does, in fact, but it's not. It's somebody outsold it. In hockey? Uh-huh. Mighty Ducks. Mighty Ducks. Wow. Mighty Ducks.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Good pull. Good pull. Yeah, I'm pretty good at what I do. That's what we were trying to figure that out. Try to figure that out. The top rated baseball movie. Baseball. Top grossing baseball.
Starting point is 00:17:01 There's so many. So it goes through this. So let me just, so what it says is, wow, in an upset. Oh. This is an upset.

Starting point is 00:17:23 Mr. Baseball. It's not, it is not major league, which is stunning to me. Oh. It's not major league. I thought.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Field of Dreams? Field of dreams. not it. It's third. Number one. Forty-two. Number one. Nope. That's number five. Number one. A league of their own. Number one. Ooh. Bowling. Yeah. Eric says a league of their own better be up there. Bowling. There's like a Disney Channel movie about bowling, but I don't remember what the title is. There's a cult clash. Is there? There's a cult class. I have no idea. I've only seen one bowling there's like three. I've only seen one ever. But this is the one.

Starting point is 00:18:41 Bend it like. I never watched that one. Actually, really good. That's when Beckham was at his prime. But it's not about Beckham at all. It's about women soccer players. That was when David Beckham was at his prime and like anybody could. No, he's still his prime.
