I did space this out, but I wanted to play maybe one of the most popular songs from 1926.
I wanted to go, Song of the Year.
So we did the 2026, of course, 100 years ago, it was the 1926 Oscars.
We talked about them earlier in the show, finishing six and two.
We got some other conversations rolling, so I didn't want to cut them out.
but I forgot that I got this song here.
So let me tell, let me ask you, Harris,
is your copyright, notice on it from 1926?
I don't know.
Probably not.
I just wanted to know, you know,
what were the songs going on?
And there's a few different ones,
but this one seemed to be the song of the year.
Now, they didn't have like Billboard Top 100 or stuff,
so it was harder to chart.
But let me know what you think of here.
Valencia, song of Spain by Paul Whiteman in his orchestra.
I'm just imagining the dude in the locker room right now getting hyped up with this.
This was the hype music.
It really takes off right here.
He thinks off right here.
I'm just kidding.
I don't know.
It might admit have gotten better.
I don't know what I was expecting.
Like with 1926, like this is exactly what I should have thought.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's one of the best songs that I'll say this much.
I've heard stuff in 26 that sounds 10 times worse than this.
You're not wrong.
There's some absolutely sludge out there is how I describe it.
for music. So, you know, that's a win for 1926. That, that, that, that deserves to be heard more
than others. I'll say that much. Fair enough. Some other stuff that was going on in 26 in college
football. So in, in, in, in 1926, the great Miami hurricane of 1926 happened. This, uh, was obviously
devastating to the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the hurricanes are named the Miami
hurricanes. They opened up in 1925.
and shortly after this giant hurricane come in,
so they decided to be the Miami hurricane.
So I guess they saw it like,
that thing was pretty intimidating.
Yeah.
Interesting.
It changed the word.
Ken State changed their name from silver foxes to golden flashes.
Do you think silver foxes is any better?
Golden flashes,
silver,
I mean,
I mean,
they both kind of fall flat for me if I'm being totally honest.
Yeah,
not a good way to do.
Stanford and Pop Warner was given the title after tying,
tying undefeated Alabama and the Rose Bowl.
This was back when there was like six different title teams, by the way.
They won it and Alabama did as well.
According to one of the publication, Stanford, won it.
But Alabama was given a title elsewhere, as was Navy.
I think he was undefeated.
So it was one of those things.
Like we said, back then, it was more regional claiming titles.
I know that's a whole song and dance when you go to that point in time.
And who's really exciting.
But how do you end on a tie?
In the Rose Bowl.
That's rough.
You would imagine they would have.
figured out something by then. I guess
though, but at that time, like, hey, guys
are dying. So we need to not
extend these games if need be. So I guess
that makes sense, probably. Also going
on in the world, Henry Ford announced the
eight hour five-day work week, so it can always
appreciate Henry Ford for that.
Yeah, that means, that's a big one.
Otherwise, who knows how many hours we've been working
right now. 1926. Thanks, Henry.
The United States, a weather
map is televised for the first time.
It was sent from
Arlington to the Weather Bureau office in Washington,
DC. I thought it had to blow people's minds.
Yeah. I mean, that's
when you go through this stuff,
I don't know how many more you got, but you do
start to realize just like how blessed we are.
Like, you know, from the song that you just played,
like, first of all, like,
the production value could use some work, but I get it
at the time, right? They didn't have a lot.
And your only ability to probably
listen to that is like you're listening on the radio
and the hopes that that comes on that night.
Like, sitting there with your girl, like,
here comes with my favorite song.
You're really hoping and praying. You're,
and you're depending on technology,
just a completely different way.
And, you know, we depend on technology,
but at the same time, we just take it for granted.
Oh, yeah.
An insane level.
I still don't understand how people read maps.
Thank God.
MapQuest at first, but now just your phone can get you there.
I mean, I get the idea.
I'm just saying it'd be pretty tough.
It is when you got on an interstate and you're flying down the road
and you got to whip out and, you know, 13 piece folded paper for the map.
Like, yeah.
If you miss a turn, it costs it like 30 minutes because you got to turn around,
it could be tough.
Speaking of which, the United States number highway system, including Route 66, was established 100 years ago.
That's a big one.
I think that's actually one of probably the biggest accomplishments by the U.S.
Get that done.
The college board administers the first SAT was the first major standardized test for university and college admission in the U.S.
Also, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Yankees four games to three to win the first World Series title for the Cardinals.
The World Series ended when Babe Ruth attempted to steal second base,
but was tagged out.
It's the only World Series to end that way.
So I could celebrate here in 1926.
Take that Babe Ruth in the Yankees.
They would go ahead and win in 27 and 28, though.
So my, you know, it doesn't last long.
For all those that love Babe Ruth, remember, he lost that World Series.
Also, Ph.B, Angel Dust was first synthesized.
So there you go.
Some fun facts about 1926.
There's crazy times of 26.
We'll lead you on that.
Crazy times back then.
Hopefully some fun times ahead for Nebraska this upcoming years.
We mentioned volleyball,
getting it going here tomorrow night.
Football just 10 days away.
We'll talk about more of that coming next to Unbock the Blacks here.
Thanks to Harrison.
Thanks to you guys for joining us here on one-on-one.
